🌟 Gemina and Obsidio 🌟 by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff…these are the next two books that I read and are the final two books in the illuminae files series! Similar with the review on the first book these both absolutely gripped and stunned me! Each follows a different hero and heroine (unlikely as some of them may be) that have their lives turned upside down. Each character must grapple with their own demons while working through active and continuing grief while coming to terms with outside forces literally trying to destroy the very world! I loved everything about this series, it was masterfully done in a format that I have never seen before and haven’t seen since. This is not your normal novel, it is told in files depicting the events of these worlds as they happen through email, interviews, surveillance footage, illegal IMs, comms, AI thoughts and more! I have never been into sci-fi but I felt like this was a great book to jump into the category…it was not too science heavy where I felt I couldn’t follow what was going on. 🌟 Illuminae the illuminae files_01 🌟 by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff…this book is a part of one of the best books series I’ve ever read! This is a completed trilogy and follows the survivors of planets that are attacked…BUT I’m not really into Sci-Fi and this absolutely hooked me and I could not rest until I finished each book! It’s not a normal novel, it is comprised of surveillance logs, IMs, emails, diary entries, AI (Aidan) reports, memos, and other things as well! Each book tells the story of a different unlikely hero and heroine that all comes together in the end to stick it to Beitech Industries, the monster in the night! This first book follows Ezra and Kady and I cannot stress to you enough how amazing this book was and how once you start it you need to MAKE SURE you have all of the books available to read right away! I read the first and didn’t have the second or third on hand and had to wait so long for Amazon to deliver them because no stores in my area had them…and reading them on your kindle (while doable) is not really the best experience because of the formatting and way this is put together in memos and IM chars and emails, etc. I did try to read it on my kindle while I wasted but it was just to small and you couldn’t really zoom in! Illuminae by @amiekaufmanauthor and @misterkristoff First book in a YA science fiction trilogy, told almost exclusively through text conversations, transcripts of security camera footage, and monologues from an AI character. The format of the book made it an easy read (especially, I imagine, for teen readers who tend to prioritize dialogue over conversation). The main characters themselves were likable, if a bit cringey at times. Sometimes this cringiness came from the authors not quite hitting the mark on how teenagers talk to each other (in my experience). But the majority of the time, they did sound like actual teenagers; the problem is simply that teenagers just happen to be really cringey when talking to one another. Especially when talking to their significant others. Luckily, I was intrigued enough about the plot to forgive my gripes with the text conversations, and I think if I were still within the correct target demographic, I would have enjoyed the book even more. Pomalu jsem si ji dávkovala, ať ten zážitek z ní nemám hned za sebou. Vše bylo vymyšlené do posledního detailu, každá stránka má svůj význam. A to i třeba taková strana, na které je jen jedno slovo. Zpracování je jednoduše✨chef kiss✨! Před přečtením jsem si říkala, jak moc mi půjde se vžít do děje a do postav, když vlastně nečteme souvislý text, ale “jen” přepisy kamer, chaty, různé záznamy. Absolutně zbytečně jsem se bála. To napětí, které kniha dokázala vyvolat… snad nikdy víc mi při čtení nebušilo srdce. Příběh je celkově skvělý, výborně vystavěný. K postavám si dokážete udělat vztah i přesto, že jste s nimi jen pár stránek. Několikrát se mi zlomilo srdce, párkrát zase slepilo a závěr byl strhující. Vážně jsem nevěděla, co od toho čekat a předčilo to moje očekávání. Moc se těším na další díly! A i když je to řazeno jako young adult, tak věřím, že to bude bavit i starší čtenáře. Ako prevučete prstom preko slike videćete tačno na šta mislim kada kažem da je u pitanju nestandardni format. 📖Radnja je data hronološki , od početka same invazije do suđenja okupatoru, i u svakoj knjizi imamo drugačije glavne junake čije se priče u jednom trenutku prepliću. Izvandredno osmišljena i sprovedena u delo, piča će vas upoznati sa tinejdžerima koji su jednog dana išli u normalnu srednju školu a već sledećeg su upravljali svemirskim letelicama i bili primorani da na brzinu odrastu. Are there any books on your backlist that you’re trying to read this year? I’ve heard a lot of good things about the illuminae files but the format these books are written in always intimidated me. But after reading the aurora cycle a few years ago (and really liking my first foray into sci-fi) I decided to finally give these a try since they are by the same authors. I got the audiobook and I’m so glad I did! This book is told in a series of interviews, video transcripts, emails, etc.. and listening to it with a full cast for the different voices made it so fun! If you saw my stories last week, you know I had mixed thoughts about the direction the story went. I almost couldn’t finish it because the descriptions of the de@ths were so 🤮 I had several people message me about this book being slow-burn horror or compared it to the walking de@d in space—which are both valid comparisons imo. This story is not for the faint of heart. BUT- I did finish it and I did enjoy it. The ending of this book was bonkers and there were so many plot twists it made my head spin but it ended in a way that made me want to keep reading. Many of you messaged me saying the next book was your favorite and since I already bought it using a 2for1 deal, I’m going to continue on. We’ll see if the descriptions in book 2 settle down. The layout is so unique, the entire narration told through audio and video transcripts, IMs, emails, journal entries, memos, redacted reports, etc. The story was great, although it went to some places I wasn't expecting. ***SPOILERS*** I was enjoying the ride, obsessed with the format, becoming attached to Kady and Ezra, when the tense deep space chase suddenly morphed into a space zombie horror featuring a self-actualizating and psychotic AI. It became every horror sci-fi movie I stop watching (because I'm a horror and gore wuss), but I couldn't stop reading this. Sometimes I wonder why I read certain authors that literally make me weep with heartbreak. 😅 I swear we’re all a little bit masochistic lol! This story is brilliant, and such a unique format, both the audiobook and the physical book. This is a book I would highly recommend having both formats to really absorb & appreciate the story. Told like less like a standard story & more like a recounting through transcripts, emails, interviews & medical reports, it’s brilliant chaos that will have you immersed in it until the very last words. I’m normally not a big audiobook reader, however I do enjoy full cast production type audiobooks, which Illuminae was, & it was masterful. Incredibly emotive, thought provoking, & heart wrenching. This Space Opera is a must read. Just be prepared to guard your heart. 😅 Amie & Jay have woven an amazing Sci-Fi tale that deserves all the hype. Blog de internet: Cuando se publicó en 2016, intenté renegar de Illuminae, pero estaba hasta en la sopa y acabé sucumbiendo. En mi defensa diré que era difícil no sucumbir porque daba igual su argumento, su desarrollo, o su profundidad porque cómo está hecho es muy atrayente. Lo que tiene de especial es que la historia está contada a través de una combinación de emails, informes, notas sobre los informes, transcripciones de audios, etc. y para reflejarlo está diseñado de manera especial, convirtiéndose en el infierno de los disléxicos y en una novela única. Tremenda fue la impresión que tuve al leer Illuminae por primera vez, ya que no me esperaba encontrar una aventura dinámica y altamente entretenida gracias a que mezcla más temas que la segunda temporada de American Horror Story. Como novela juvenil de ciencia ficción (esto es, con poca ciencia y con vocabulario tirando a sencillo,) me gustó bastante. Decidí que el formato merecía la pena porque una vez pasado el factor sorpresa se convierte en una manera muy fácil de transmitir una historia sin necesidad de ser coherente con un solo narrador y sin necesidad de perder el tiempo con introducciones, lo cual hace que la historia pueda ser todo lo dinámica que quieran hacerla sus autores. Me gusta cómo está contado Illuminae porque es ciencia ficción asequible para todos los públicos gracias a que el hilo conductor es una relación adolescente. Antes de leerlo me preguntaba qué necesidad podía haber para meter un romance juvenil en esta trama, pero la verdad es que gracias a eso podemos seguir una historia de misterio y aventuras en el espacio que, con el humor de los jóvenes protagonistas, resulta divertida. Morning friends! It has been a couple few weeks and I am so glad I got the week off. Minus a couple work meetings, which won’t be a lot. Today it’s gonna be those meetings, some low key exercise, laundry, and reading. What does your week look like? 👾 It’s also been so nice outside lately I can’t help but wish for spring!! Even though I know better with Iowa being like it is lol. It’s a high above 60 today so gonna take Juniper for a little walkie. 👾 I got this wax melt awhile ago with the Wick and Jane space release and I love it and haven’t had the guts to use it yet! It smells like sweet lemon icing, and has those gorgeous little sparkles and pebbles in a crescent moon shape. 🛸🛸QOTD You have been abducted by a UFO… They took you because they needed a new crew member… What position on the Uberprise would you like to do?🛸🛸 I don’t read much in the way of sci-fi books but I heard the Illuminae files by Jay Kristoff, Amie Kaufman were a good read and my library had all 3 available right away on audio so I thought… What the hey! The three books are… Illuminae followed by Gemina and then Obsidio. Illuminae starts with pandemonium. An illegal settlement is being attacked. Two tennagers, Kady and Erza somehow manage to escape to the Hypatia and the Alexander, two ships taking on refugees. It’s 2575 and they are being followed by a hostile warship. Not only do the invaders want what they are mining on the planet, they have also released a bioweapon and it is mutating… Kady is a hacker and she cannot help feeling they are all being lied to and when the AI onboard the ship kills a ton of the survivors… She cannot help getting deeply involved in the resistance. I loved how all three books were pieced together by a hearing for the crimes. The people who started the invasion listened to all the evidence. Gemina carries on from where illuminae finishes but we are introduced to new characters and they put Aiden, the AI, back online in hopes of finding help but he isn’t under control. I loved the full cast of voices and the new characters, Nic and Hannah were nice additions. Nic ends up smuggling things on board Jump Station Heimdall for the elite BeiTech strike team and their reign of terror ends up creating a wormhole that means the space-time continuum becoming ripped in two. The group race against the clock to try and save the whole universe. Obsidio has Kady, Erza, Nic and Hannah all aboard the container ship, Mao. The fight isn’t over and the final battle will take place back on Kady and Ezra’s home planet!! I was so sad when they were over!! These are the best audios I have ever listened to. 5 stars for each of these installments.

Jestem jej ogromną fanką, więc moje oczekiwania również takie były! 🚀 Wydarzenia tej książki są opisane z perspektywy siedmiu głównych bohaterów: szóstka z nich to absolwenci międzygalaktycznej szkoły wojskowej Aurora Academy. Przydzieleni do siebie nieco wbrew własnej woli, grupa wyrzutków, zmuszona do wspólnej pracy. Siódma osoba, to tajemnicza dziewczyna obudzona z dwustuletniego snu. Jest w rzeczywistości czymś o wiele większym, niż początkowo mogło się zdawać, a w grę wchodzą sekrety sięgające milionów lat wstecz, oraz tajemne siły chcące przejąć całą galaktykę. 👽 Jak bardzo żałuję że pozwoliłam się tej książce kurzyć na mojej półce przez tyle lat! Mmy tu masę, MASĘ akcji, świetnych bohaterów, wybitne poczucie humoru, oryginalny koncept i ogólnie zabawa jest przednia. Język jest bardzo lekki, przystępny, młodzieżowy, czyta się bardzo szybko. W skrócie - siada. 👾 Co mi nie do końca „siadło”, to dość powtarzalne schematy, trochę typowe, trochę oklepane. Widziałam to już milion razy. Kolejna sprawa, to Aurora. Fakt, mamy tu siódemkę głównych bohaterów, natomiast to ona tu jest raczej w centrum uwagi. JAK TA LASKA MI DZIAŁAŁA NA NERWY. Weźcie Bellę ze „Zmierzchu” i wsadzie ją na statek kosmiczny. Second hand embarassment, straszna pick me. No sory. Co więcej, (postaram się nie spolerować) nie jestem pewna czy w ogóle widzi mi się ten wątek insta-love który też się tam pojawia. Muszę to przetrawić. 🪷 Podsumowując. Bawiłam się świetnie, miałam ubaw po pachy, zdecydowanie sięgnę po kolejną część. Mam wrażenie że to był tylko wstęp do czegoś o wiele większego co na nas czeka i nosi mnie aby dowiedzieć się co dalej. Początek? Ogień. Środek? No okej. KOŃCÓWKA?? OMG. Ta książka zdecydowanie ma swoje minusy, natomiast i tak cieszę się że w końcu się za nią zabrałam, bo wcale nie czuję że zmarnowałam przy niej czas. FIN TO JA, JA TO FIN.
