The Last Tudor is the final book in the Plantagenets and Tudors series by Philippa Gregory. It was a great read I’m excited to read more from Gregory in the future. Each book is able to be read as a stand alone and the series does not need to be read in order. I certainly didn’t read them in order and will be backtracking to read the ones I’ve skipped. I’ve read most of Gregory’s work and she has definitely become an auto buy author for me. #finalbooksupportgroup #fbsg #tfbsg #wrapup #thelasttudor @thefinalbooksupportgroup

Continuing the buddy read of Murtagh by Christopher Paolini with @cheyennebrown1226 We are finally getting to the meat of the book and I’m intrigued to see what happens next. I have been loving the Tudor series for years now and here in this installment there is still just as much court politics and fighting over the throne of England as in all the others. This installment follows 3 sisters and at almost half way we have a dead sister and safe (for the moment) sister and one who I suspect is about to be fighting for her life. I’m going back to the books now as I must now what happens next….. #finalbooksupportgroup #fbsg #tfbsg #thelasttudor #murtagh @thefinalbooksupportgroup

Book Title: The Last Tudor Book Author: Philippa Gregory Genre: Historical Fiction This book was the fourteenth published in Philippa Gregory’s Plantagenet & Tudor series focusing on the Grey sisters. Jane, the doomed Queen, Katherine, the hopeful heir, and Mary, the overlooked daughter - follow these three siblings as they battle their lineage and the curse of being a Tudor. “a plot inside a plot, a sin upon a sin” If you think you have heard of every Tudor figure, think again. Most will have heard the name Jane Grey, or the nine day Queen, but little recognition has been given to her younger sisters - Katherine & Mary. I enjoyed this book which led me to look further into the sad lives of these young women. The book being split into three sections - each dedicated to a different sister - helps to keep the interest of the reader, as well as the recognition that Elizabeth could be just as tempestuous as her predecessors. These women unfortunately fell victim to the Tudor curse which seemed to befall many of their relatives but I hope their story can be learned and their legacy positive. #philippagregory #thelasttudor #tudor #plantagenet #books #bookstagram #bookreview #janegrey #katherinegrey #marygrey #elizabethtudor #marytudor #historicalfiction

The Last Tudor, by Philippa Gregory. It recounts the story of Lady Mary Grey, the 'Last Tudor' who was sister to Jane Grey who was (disputed) Queen of England for only nine days, before being executed and Lady Katherine Grey who sought to produce a royal heir. As always, Philippa Gregory’s books are incredibly well researched, but also given a delightful fictional twist. This is a sad story, the rare moments of joy these sisters get are swiftly taken from them, and whilst there is fiction here, the Tudor court was not a good place to be… #tudor #tudorcourt #philippagregory #thelasttudor #reading #bookstagram #books #book #booklover #read #bookworm #bookish #bookstagrammer #booknerd #bookaddict #readmuch #readersofinstagram #booktwist #booksofinstagram #reader #bookaholic #readingtime #bookshelf #booklove #literature #booksbooksbooks #author #instabooks #bookblogger #bookreview

🌻Thrifted Books🌻 🌻I love brand new books, but it is so much more fun to find books at a used bookstore! You never know what you are going to find or where the books came from, but now it’s yours to read and enjoy! I found a 1999 Hardcover Barnes and Noble edition of “Mansfield Park” with the original price sticker of $6.98, “The Girl with a Pearl Earring” published in 2001 before the movie came out, “Mary, Queen of France” by Jean Plaidy (a legendary historical fiction author who I just found out about), and a hardcover of “The Last Tudor” by Philippa Gregory (one of the books from the Plantagenet and Tudor series), that for some reason ended up in a used bookstore even though it belonged to the public library of the city I live in. I can tell by the stamps and barcodes on it Lol!🌻 🌻Have a wonderful day full of reading!🌻 #newbooks #thriftedbooks #bookstack #oldbooks #bookshop #mansfieldpark #janeausten #thegirlwithapearlearring #tracychevalier #maryqueenoffrance #jeanplaidy #thelasttudor #philippagregory #historicalfiction #literature #womeninliterature

#bookstagram #reinesdesang #philippagregory #tudor #thelasttudor

The Last Tudor, 5 stars! This book is about the three Grey sisters, Jane, Katherine and Mary and is broken up into three parts to tell each of their stories. Jane Grey is the famous Queen Jane, who was only queen for 9 days in between Edward VI and Mary I. Their sisters are far less famous but have very tragic stories as well. My only complaint about this book is that once again this author has made Elizabeth I out to be a tyrant which is less than fair, but from these sisters point of view probably accurate. Because all three sisters are held in captivity for most of the book there is very little interaction with the monarchs (Mary and Elizabeth) other than proclamations and such so it is very much an outside story. I do recommend it, but if you have the love for Elizabeth that I do, prepare for an unkind picture of her to be painted. . . . . #book #books #bookstagram #bibliophile #bookreview #bookrecommendations #paperback #fiction #booklover #booklife #bookaddict #historicalfiction #novel #novels #read #reading #readinglover #readinglife #readingaddict #readmore #readmorebooks #readmorewomen #booksofintsagram #readersofinstagram #verygoodbook #thelasttudor #philppagregory #5stars #21/200

👑REVIEW👑 The Last Tudor by Philippa Gregory. 👑Premise: Three sisters, three heirs to the Tudor throne. Jane Grey was queen of England for nine days before being sent to the executioner’s block. Her sisters Katherine and Mary both intends to enjoy their youths. But what will happen when the last Tudors defy the ruthless and unforgiving Queen Elizabeth? 👑I didn't know much about the Grey sisters before reading this book. All I knew was that Jane Grey was queen for 9 days then killed by Mary. I didn't know she had any sisters. 👑The book is split into 3 sections, one for each sister, with Katherine's section being the longest. There's a theme throughout the each of their stories of how dangerous it is to be an heir. People want to use them without considering what the girls themselves actually want. 👑In the second half of the book, I was starting to get bored. Both Katherine and Mary marry in secret then live under house arrest. So most of their stories are them going "surely now I'm in favour and must be freed" then not being released. But overall, a good book. . . . #books #bookstagram #read #reading #goodreads #review #bookreview #fiction #historicalfiction #thelasttudor #philippagregory #tudor #history #ladyjanegrey #elizabethi #womeninhistory #women #royal #royalty #monarch

#dreisternegefluester

❄Philippa Gregory: Az utolsó Tudor❄ Az írónő regénye a Tudor ház történetének végét meséli el, amelyben I. Erzsébet királynő a jogos Tudor-örökösöket igyekszik távol tartani a trónjától.

Book Review: The Last Tudor by Philippa Gregory Synopsis: Jane Grey was queen of England for nine days. Her father and his allies crowned her instead of the dead king’s half-sister Mary Tudor, who quickly mustered an army, claimed her throne, and locked Jane in the Tower of London. When Jane refused to betray her Protestant faith, Mary sent her to the executioner’s block, where Jane transformed her father’s greedy power-grab into tragic martyrdom. “Learn you to die,” was the advice Jane wrote to her younger sister Katherine, who has no intention of dying. She intends to enjoy her beauty and her youth and fall in love. But she is heir to the insecure and infertile Queen Mary and then to her sister Queen Elizabeth, who will never allow Katherine to marry and produce a Tudor son. When Katherine’s pregnancy betrays her secret marriage, she faces imprisonment in the Tower, only yards from her sister’s scaffold. “Farewell, my sister,” writes Katherine to the youngest Grey sister, Mary. A beautiful dwarf, disregarded by the court, Mary keeps family secrets, especially her own, while avoiding Elizabeth’s suspicious glare. After seeing her sisters defy their queens, Mary is acutely aware of her own danger, but determined to command her own life. What will happen when the last Tudor defies her ruthless and unforgiving cousin Queen Elizabeth? Review: I really liked this book following the lives of the 3 Grey sisters. It was rich and well written. There was a lot of telling instead of showing towards the end, which made sense since the MC was in prison. The end of the book was more about Mary Queen of Scots than about Mary Grey. Delightful read!

THROWBOOK THURSDAY! --- something I read waaay back before starting bookstagram 💛 The Last Tudor Philippa Gregory 4⭐️ Historical fiction (1500s) This book tells the sad, crazy circumstances and politics of the shortest reigning monarch of English history. Lady Jane Grey was only queen for 9 days, after being named successor by her cousin Edward VI. Mary Tudor and medieval England had a different plan. I've always been fascinated about this part of English history. Gregory has written this so well and told Lady Jane's messy and politically heavy story in the most beautiful way. 🤴 THE LAST TUDOR - Book Review 👸🤴 So you like historical fiction? No? Well this is the book which can change your mind. Philippa Gregory has a story to tell , and she tells it in a damn good way. And hold on , it’s all real events. Swipe ➡️ for plot summary I am a little lazy to type out a full blown review on this cold, rainy night but take my word for it. This book will not disappoint. I am so sorry. You are to be beheaded tomorrow. We don’t have long at all.’ ~~~~~~~~ Jane Grey was Queen of England for nine days. Using her position as cousin to the deceased king, her father and his conspirators put her on the throne ahead of the king’s half-sister Mary, who quickly mustered an army, claimed her crown and locked Jane in the Tower. ✨THE LAST TUDOR✨ by Philippa Gregory In a sad tale of Papist vs. Protestant, the devastating short reign of Jane Grey, the 9-day Queen, is charted in THE LAST TUDOR. When King Henry VIII’s only son Edward dies, the young boy King makes his Grey cousins his heirs over his half-sisters Mary and Elizabeth. Jane, who has been aligned in marriage with the high reaching Dudley’s of Northumberland, is placed on the throne. But no one expects Mary Tudor and her army of true believers (and most of the Spanish) to rise up and put Jane, her family and in-laws to death. Now, I need to put a disclaimer here. I’m a BIG FAN of Tudor historical fiction, Philippa Gregory is my OG historical fiction author but lordy. Even I found this a chore to get through. It has amazed me that such a short period of history was turned into a novel of over 500 pages (or nearly 20 hours on audio – of which I alternated between). In what I imagine is supposed to stir sympathy, I instead found Jane and her sisters to be the most unlikeable characters. I had to keep reminding myself they were young teenagers/children (the youngest of the three is 9) and they were raised to think themselves above others. This storyline is filled with political intrigue, but I was left sorely disappointed in what ultimately felt like girls being pitted against each other for the sake of dramatic.

The Last Tudor ~ Philippa Gregory This book focuses on Jane Grey the nine days Queen. Her father and his allies crowned her instead of the dead king’s half sister Mary Tudor, who quickly mustered an army, claimed her throne, and locked Jane in the Tower of London. When Jane refused to betray her Protestant faith, Mary sent her to the executioner’s block, where Jane transformed her father’s greedy power grab into tragic martyrdom. This was an interesting & enjoyable read. I enjoyed this one as I've always found Jane Grey's story interesting! At times I felt it could have been made a bit mote conscise. Overall I rated this one ⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 because although I enjoyed it it's one I'll be giving to charity as it's not a re-read book for me. Having said that if you enjoy historical fiction focusing on the Tudor period then I'd recommend giving this one a try! 🏷 #TheLastTudor #HistoricalFiction #Tudors #fiction #bookish #booksta #bookstagrammerUK #booksbooksbooks #BooksConnectUs #literaryadventueswithgabby

A snapshot of a couple of my reads this last week 🥰 It has been a pretty great reading week from guessing who's suspect number one for murder at The Last Party to piecing together events surrounding Kya's life and the mystery of Chase Andrew's death in Where the Crawdads Sing, being launched back into Tudor history with the Three Grey sisters and their struggle as women in line to the throne against the fearsome Elizabeth I in The Last Tudor, jetting off to Lisbon with Ariel Price, as she wakes up innthe city alone with no trace of her husband and finding herself in a race against time to discover what has happened in Two Nights in Lisbon, and witnessing the aftermath of a fatal collision and the impact on those closest with deadly effects in The Wreckage. **what has been a great recent read for you? ** #augustchallenge #Augustreads #thelastparty #claremackintosh #thelasttudor #philippagregory #twonightsinlisbon #chrispavone #thewreckage #robinmorganbentley #wherethecrawdadssing #deliaowens

#booksivereadin2022 The Last Tudor - Philippa Gregory This is the penultimate book in the Tudor Court series, and I'm kinda sad that this series is coming to an end. I started reading the Cousins War series back in March 2021, so it been over a year that I've been reading these books! This one is about the Grey sisters. I knew of Lady Jane Grey, who was Queen for 9 days, and have actually visited the ruins of Bradgate House, which the Grey family owned. I didn't know about the two younger sisters though, so really enjoyed learning their stories as well. Book 16 out of 50 for 2022 📚👑 👩‍❤️‍👨🐒🏰💔👰🤰 #thelasttudor #philippagregory #tudorcourt #tudorcourtseries #thetudors #elizabethi #queenelizabethi #ladyjanegrey #ladykatherinegrey #ladymarygrey #books #reading #bookstagram #lovereading #lovebooks #booksofinstagram #historicalfiction #bookstagramUK #storygraph

𝚃𝚑𝚎 𝙻𝚊𝚜𝚝 𝚃𝚞𝚍𝚘𝚛 𝚋𝚢 𝙿𝚑𝚒𝚕𝚕𝚒𝚙𝚊 𝙶𝚛𝚎𝚐𝚘𝚛𝚢 ⭐️⭐️⭐️ Now I’m not religious by any means. I don’t pray, I don’t think my life is all by a “God’s” doing, nor do I revolve my life around a religious expectation of me. I just simply exist. The history of the characters in this book is what drew me to it as I’m very interested in European kings and queens around the time of Mary Queen of Scots. I’ve watched the tv show Reign on Netflix a number of times and know that for the most part that it’s historically accurate. When I read this book I had those characters in my head whenever they were mentioned. Queen Elizabeth during the 1500s was one of the most unfair and seemingly unfit woman to rule. Her family having committed treason in the past, she was seen as unfit as heir to the throne. But this story doesn’t come from her point of view, nor her cousin Mary Queen of Scots. This story is told from 3 different point of views from the Grey girls. Both cousins to Mary Queen of Scots and Queen Elizabeth, the eldest daughter Jane Grey was seen as the royal heir to the throne after King Edward passed. She was Godly and had views unlike her sisters. She felt like both her sisters Katherine and Mary were less Godly than she and that they should focus on living for Him. She was queen for a matter of days before her cousin the (now) Queen had her executed just because she felt like she had more claim to the throne. Katherine Grey is the middle child and struggled with love, remembering her sister, and juggling all that Queen Elizabeth would throw at her. She was imprisoned by the Queen for marrying a man and getting pregnant only because the Queen was jealous. Nobody wanted her. She was vain, jealous, men, and unfair. After Katherine was formally removed as being heir, that only left little Mary. But nobody saw Mary as competition to the Queen as she was born small. No larger than a 9 year old and with a curve in her back, she was always looked down upon (cont. in comments)…

Book review! Book 25 of 2022. The Last Tudor by Philippa Gregory You can always rely on Philippa Gregory for historical fiction, she's probably most well known for "The Other Boleyn Girl" but has written a multitude of fiction around the Tudor court and the century before, as well as other historical novels about purely fictional people. I think there is a danger when writing about real people, to attribute them with characteristics we'd like them to have, and can border on to the disrespectful at times. However, if you've read a few of Gregory's books, you'll see this isn't the case here. The attributes are more how the characters see them. ie. This isn't a particularly flattering account of Elizabeth I, however in Gregory's novel set around Elizabeth's life, you feel nothing but sympathy for her. The last Tudor is 3 stories in one, recounting the lives of Lady Jane Grey, the 9 day queen, and of her 2 sisters Katherine and Mary. I didn't know very much about the Grey sisters, and although you have to take fiction with a grain of salt, I found it very informative and easily readable ⭐⭐⭐⭐4 Stars⭐⭐⭐⭐ #Bookstagram #bookreview #audiobook #philippagregory #thelasttudor #historicalfiction #tudorfiction #janegrey #katherinegrey #marygrey #tudor

🌹 Complots, trahisons, Reines tyranniques... 🌹🌹🌹 . . . #bookstagram #bookstagramfrance #livrestagram #instalecture #instalivre #livrestagrammeuse #instagrambooks #igbooks #bookofinstagram #avislecture #passionlecture #avislivresque #bookphotography #lectureterminée #bookpassion #booklover #lectricecompulsive #bookoftheday #passionlivres #bookaddict #livraddict #lecture #livre #book #roman #seriallectrice #reinesdesang #thelasttudor #philippagregory

On the desk this afternoon, doubling up for #twofortuesday along with a few for #tudortuesday - all with a nod to British authors. 📚🇬🇧📚 Today’s stack is a mixture of non-fiction/research, middle grade historical fiction and adult historical fiction “twos”… each one I’m either anxious to read or to share more about: 📖 Write It All Down and 📖 Dear Reader by Cathy Rentzenbrink I listened to “Dear Reader” earlier this year and absolutely loved Cathy’s words and book recommendations. I can’t wait to spend time with “Write it All Down” as several writing friends from @theconfidentcreativeclub have highly recommended this one. 📖 The Valley of Lost Secrets and 📖When the War Came Home by Lesley Parr These two are from a new-to-me author who I’m anxious to read. I adore middle-grade hisfic and each set during WWI/WWII is a bonus interest. 📖 How to be Tudor and 📖 How to Behave Badly in Elizabethan England by Ruth Goodman Research books I’ve read before and turn to again and again, Ruth is an expert historian of British life. 📖 The Women of the Cousins War and 📖 The Last Tudor by Philippa Gregory Somehow I’ve been living under a rock and just finished reading my very FIRST Philippa Gregory novel. #ikr 😵 More on that later, but these two are my current reads/listens. I’ve gone down the deep dark rabbit hole of all things Tudor and I’m not looking to come up for air until I’ve read all of Philippa’s Tudor books. #ivegotgoals Any of these on your TBR list? Some new books to add to my collection. I just couldn’t resist Gallant by @veschwab when I walked past @waterstones this week and what a great copy it is. Singed by the author which a beautiful design on the pages. Then popped to my local secondhand book store to find a first edition of The Last Tudor by @philippa.gregory and these stunning children’s book, Peter Pan and the Alice in Wonderland collection. I used to think that reading historical fiction was boring ... and then I read my first Philippa Gregory novel and my TBR filled up with a snap! I have a long-term goal to read through the entire Plantagenet and Tudor Novels, but I’m not sure I’ll ever get around to it! I know this community loves a good map at the beginning of books, but can we show some love for the elaborate family trees? #philippagregory #reinesdesang #thelasttudor #passionlecture #lectureaddict #bookstagram #bookstagramfrance #lireunlivre #lirecestlavie #leslivrescestlavie #instalectrice #devoreusedelivre #lireunlivre #avislecture

Known as the Virgin Queen, Elizabeth I is considered one of the England's most successful and popular monarchs. She ruled during the time that came to be known as the Golden Age. She was also the last Tudor. The book is a fictional account of what may have lead her to take the decision of never getting married. A peep into her controversial relationship with Robert Dudley. But it is so much more. It's the story of a woman ahead of her times in many ways. For one, she chose not to marry when the entire country expected her to tie the knot soon after taking over as the Queen. It is also the story of Amy Dudley, a naive woman who became the victim of Elizabeth's self-centerdness. She is the anti-thesis of a woman like Elizabeth. The contrast in these two women's characters made for an interesting food for thought for me. (Centuries later, we still have Amy Dudleys who think their husband is their Lord even after he loses everything including interest in her. But that's topic for another day). The book gives us an insight into Elizabeth's journey. She was fickle-minded and indecisive yet ruthless and calculating. Easily swayed by flattery yet manipulative. Love-stricken but not a fool. She wrote her own rules of being a Queen. Very different from her predecessor and half-sister who came to be known as 'Bloody Mary'. What a riveting portrayal of the formidable Queen. I love how the author builds the character. Although you know the end, the character development keeps the narrative extremely engaging. You see Elizabeth growing from a nervous new Queen to an indecisive leader to a powerful monarch; from a love-stricken foolhardy to a woman who'd not let a man think he can rule her. The Virgin's Lover is a rich, enthralling novel of passion, betrayal, and power. #historicalfiction #latergram #bookreview #historylovers #elizabeth1 #thelasttudor #bookstoread #bookrecommendations #whatareyoureading #bookstagram #bookswelove #bookclub #thevirginslover #bookreview

On this day in 1554, Jane Grey was beheaded, aged only 16. She was Queen of England for nine days. Using her position as cousin to the deceased king, her father and his conspirators put her on the throne ahead of the king’s half-sister Mary, who quickly mustered an army, claimed her crown and locked Jane in the Tower. When Jane refused to betray her Protestant faith, Mary sent her to the executioner’s block. There Jane turned her father’s greedy, failed grab for power into her own brave and tragic martyrdom. Read the moving story of Jane's life and death in Philippa Gregory's book 'The Last Tudor', available from our shop. #JaneGrey #LadyJaneGrey #TheQueenOfNineDays #TheLastTudor #PhilippaGregory #TudorHistory

#threebooks I've read recently, which don't really have a connection except perhaps 'love'. Butterfly Lion is about both the enduring love of a couple separated by war and the bond between a boy and an animal, a recurrent theme of Michael Morpurgo's brilliant storytelling. This is a short and easily accessible introduction to his wonderful writing. A previous reader has written "But tell me this... how can there be a happy ending without love" in the front of The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane. It's a beautiful original book, definitely the highlight of the three for me. The Last Tudor is the final volume from the set that began with The Other Boleyn girl, and focusses on Jane Grey and her sisters, both of whom married for love without Elizabeth I's permission. A very risky undertaking. I prefer some of the others particularly from the early Cousins War but the research is meticulous, as ever. I liked the connection with the previous reader through their quote. Jane Grey, we know as the Tudor Queen that held the throne for 9 days, but we don’t know much about her sisters. And that’s what I like about the books in this series, we get a bit of insight from another perspective. The book was split into Jane, Katherine and Mary’s perspectives. Jane’s was rather short as we all know what happened to her. But it was really interesting hearing some more of the story from her sisters’ perspectives. Although the book is based on historical events, Philippa Gregory does put a lot of creativity and imagination into the dialogue etc. She is an intelligent and beautiful writer. Although I adore history regarding the Tower of London, and the Tudor period, I felt a lot of the book seemed really repetitive. A lot of gap-filling. But I suppose that’s what historical fiction is all about. They were imprisoned most of the time, especially Katherine, and it just got a bit ….. slow. I did enjoy it though. It’s definitely one of my favourite history periods.
