Anyone else experience three months during August? I know I often live in a wibbly-wobbly-timey-wimey headspace, but this month…phew. Maybe I read some of these books in the Tardis? Sometimes you help me choose my magnetic bookmark reading buddies in IG stories, but otherwise I don’t show them off much. So, I decided to let the crew help display all the books I read in August! ·  Prince Eric + I sailed through The Story Raider by @linzyafranklin. Story magic + pirates in this YA adventure sequel to The Story Peddler. ·  Prince Phillip + I sat on the shore and pondered love, magic, and politics in Flight of the Raven, sequel to Mark of the Raven by @morganlbusse. ·  Ariel + I dove deep into tragic topics, sweet romance, and loveable characters in an ARC of Coral by @saraellawrites. ·  Kristoff wanted to join the Rampion crew’s adventures in the Wires + Nerve graphic novels by @marissameyerauthor but I convinced him he was needed in Frozen. ·  Jasmine was learning from Nahri’s thieving ways + giving political advice where able in The City of Brass + The Kingdom of Copper by S.A. Chakraborty. ·  Tiana helped me reread Dark Breaks the Dawn so I could finally read Bright Burns the Night by @sarablarson. She was a little confused why I brought her out for this Swan Lake-inspired story, but I needed her in case we had to reason with Jean-Bob. ·  Captain Hook wanted to keep an eye on Delilah Bard with me as I finished the ADSOM trilogy by @veschwab. I unsuccessfully kept him from stealing Kell’s coat. ·  Dimitri kidnapped me into the aching + precious story of A Thousand Perfect Notes by @paperfury + I am grateful. Well done, Cait. Late post for two reasons: 1) I had to finish two of these books. 2) Instagram crashed as I was rereading the last paragraph and about to submit the first version of this post. I am a sad muffin. 😥 . But I did read a lot this month! I would have loved to get a pic with the full stack, but alas, libraries require you to return books. Here’s the breakdown: . 🌌 Skyward, by Brandon Sanderson: As amazing as I knew it would be. Brandon never disappoints. Also quite humorous, despite some heavy subject matter. 🍎 The Shadow Queen, by CJ Redwine: A more interesting take on Snow White than any version I’m familiar with. Very much looking forward to the rest of Ravenspire. 👠 Cinder, by Marissa Meyer: I’ve heard about this one a lot, and it’s as good as people say. I’ll be snagging the next three books ASAP. 🐦 Flight of the Raven, by Morgan L Busse: Book one was good. Book two was even better. I don’t usually care for romantic subplots, but this one was adorable. 🔪 Scythe, by Neal Shusterman: Possibly my favorite from the month. Fascinating concept and fantastic characters. ⚡ Siren’s Song, by Mary Weber: Final book in the series. No spoilers, but I think things ended well. 👑 The King of Attolia, by Megan Whalen Turner: Third book, best book. Costis is a wonderful POV character. Plus, so much wit. 💔 Heartmender, by V Romas Burton (@vromasburton ): My very first ARC! It’s a lovely debut novel, like Narnia meets Dante’s Inferno, with such a sweet main character. I’ll be talking about this more soon, as it’s about to release! ✨ Four fairy tale/folk tale books: My brain is now stuffed with tropes and symbolism. Happy Saturday!! ✨ I had the best day! I skipped comic con last year and forgot how fun it was! And look at the awesome Ahsoka print I got! 😍😍 One of the artists I was talking to was saying how he loves the classic feel of our comic con. Like how a lot of the people wear more classic outfits from the comic, and even the banners are more classic and comic-y. It made me appreciate our little comic con even more knowing that ours is unique in that it is smaller and caters more the comic lovers and fans who don’t go for big name actors but just for the love of dressing up and celebrating their love for pop culture. :b Anyways, it was a blast. What was one of your favorite reads this month? . My wrap-up: The Traitor Prince by C.J. Redwine: Loved, loved, loved this one. Fast-paced and heartfelt and so much truth. Beautiful. 💗 . Story Raider by Lindsay Franklin: An excellent sequel to Story Peddler - can't wait for book 3! . Again but Better by Christine Riccio: A cute contemporary romance about second chances. I hadn't realized there was a magical element to this one, so that was a fun surprise! . Shadow's Edge & Beyond Shadows by Brent Weeks (books 2 and 3 in Night Angel Trilogy): Oh man, where to start. These books are brutal on the emotions - yet there's a ton of hope and redemption too. But definitely not for the faint of heart - there's quite a bit of graphic material here, and I don't recommend them for younger readers. . Audiobooks: Hero of Ages by Brandon Sanderson (Mistborn book 3) - I'd forgotten how cool Spook's arc was in this one. Also, aaallll the feelings for the ending of this book. 😭😭😭 . Alloy of Law by Brandon Sanderson (Book 1 in second Mistborn series - I don't think I fully appreciated Steris on my first readthrough. She's fantastic. Also Wayne's accent in the audiobook was hilarious.) . Gemina by Jay Kristoff and Amie Kaufman - Wow, I actually loved the audiobook of this one way more than I liked the printed version of Illuminae. Which I realize is weird given how beautiful the print books are in this series. But the full cast audiobook helped me get into the characters' heads more and actually feel their emotions. 😊😊 . #bookbookowlhashtagaugust – #lovetoread (favorite book this month): So many good choices, but I think I might go with Traitor Prince. Where do you get your books for bookstagram? Buy them or borrow them from the library? . I actually don't own a ton of books (comparatively anyway), so I borrow quite a few from the library. Today, I checked out about 25 books from the library and laughed at myself as I carted all of them out to my car in two overflowing bags--anyone watching was probably fairly impressed. Little to they know these will all be returned as soon as I take pictures of them. 😂 *** Up until a couple days ago, I actually didn't think I was going to have any books to show for a bookhaul! Then I took a look at the Kindle versions for LOTR and discovered they were free if you had Amazon Prime. Earlier this week I added this cozy chair next to my bookshelf so I have a quiet reading spot away from the TV noise. I definitely plan on curling up here at some point this three day weekend! For now, it’s time for an August wrap up! I’ve been fully engrossed in the world of Leira this month. I’ve absolutely loved the first two books of The Songkeeper Chronicles by @gillianbronteadams 💚 I was trying to finish book three but I really want to savor the last book and not rush through it, so it will carry me into September. My ratings are as follows • Orphan’s Song ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ ~I loved the world and the characters so much! It was a good introduction to Leira and the upcoming plots. I could not stop reading it! • Songkeeper ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ —This book again kept me up late into the night. The end did take on a darker tone as Birdie and her friend come face to face with her arch enemy. I don't own nearly as many books as other bookish people do. Why? I'm a minimalist. My thought has always been that I only need to own a book if I want to reread it at some point or if it was good enough that I want to lend it to a friend to read. . Then I joined bookstagram. 😂😂 Now I'm buying books left and right. To be fair, this whole stack of books cost less than $20, so it's not like I'm splurging. But 12 books is usually more than I buy in a year, and this was just one month! . Finishing the final installment of a fourteen-book series is a unique form of satisfaction. I didn’t have as much invested in the Wheel of Time as @kelljasmer (see her post today), but when you spend over a year reading on storyline, you have to trust the final book is going to be worth it. Three days until the start of September! I'm so excited to start my LOTR challenge - can't wait to get to know many of you better through it! (You can see details and rules for entering the challenge giveaway in my original challenge post a few days back in my feed.) . Since several challenges today had prompts regarding classic reads and favorite final books in series, I couldn't resist sharing two of my favorites. I first read The Last Battle when I was 8 or 9, and the call to come "further up and further in," with more beauty and deeper mysteries yet to be uncovered every day, stirred my imagination of heaven more than anything I'd read before or since. Simply beautiful. . And who, of anyone who has ever read or watched Return of the King, can ever forget the images of Sam carrying Frodo up Mount Doom, Aragorn and all the royal court kneeling before the humble hobbits, or the bittersweet return to the Shire? It stirs up all kinds of warm nostalgia just thinking about it. I'm planning a re-read of the whole LOTR series next month (I was able to get the Kindle versions for free through Amazon Prime? Happy Wednesday! If you could go back in time and witness one Bible story, which one would you choose? So, this is a hard one. My husband and I were both stumped for a while trying to decide on just one. I finally decided on the story of Ruth. Did you have an obsession when you were younger? 👑 From the first moment I learned the story behind Lady Jane Grey, The Nine Days’ Queen, I was obsessed. I’ve read biographies and lots of historical fiction about this girl because I think her story is soooo fascinating. This, of course, led to a love of all things Tudor, King Henry the VIII, and learning about his many wives. (Six, to be exact.) Happy Monday everyone! ✨ Well today has been a day. There were a few mishaps on our first day of our little vacation but at the end of the day we ended up at a nice, newly redone Holiday Inn. What makes you decide you have to have a book? . . I admit, the cover is the first step for me, but not an automatic buy/don’t buy trigger. Then the blurb. Then the first page/sample. If it’s recommended by a friend who shares my taste, it’s usually an auto buy. Like this one thanks to the lovely @aniaduttonauthor whose photos and love for this book convinced me I’d love it too. And I did. 🙂 Also, I really love sarcastic characters with gold hearts. Like Soren in White Stag who learns to be sarcastic because goblins apparently really suck at it. Which made for some great funny moments. And of course I love books with Antiheroes. Magical wonders. Beating fate. Breaking curses. Happy Friday! Tell me about your pets! What is your favorite thing about them? My Beast is a huge cuddler and I just love that about him. His death has shaken me to the core. It’s turned my naturally positive nature upside-down. I’m grieving and angry and in denial and exhausted with all the emotions bombarding me at once.
