📖📖Book Review📖📖. . The Grace Year - Kim Liggett.(@kim2legit2quit ) Publishing October 10th. Thanks to @eburybooks for the free book! . No one speaks of the grace year. It's forbidden. We're told we have the power to lure grown men from their beds, make boys lose their minds, and drive the wives mad with jealousy. That's why we're banished for our sixteenth year, to release our magic into the wild before we're allowed to return to civilization. . Wow! Just wow! A feminist dystopian novel about young women trapped in an oppressive society! This was a real page turner I could not put it down and when I had to I was wishing the hours away so I could get back to it! . I don’t want to give anything away with my review because I went in blind and that’s part of the reason I think I enjoyed it so much as after reading other reviews I realised some of the flaws in the book which I had maybe put to the back of my mind with the excitement of enjoyment! I won’t let them affect how much I really did enjoy this book!! . What I will say is; this is a book about women, about our strength, about how we can turn on each other and in the next breath support each other and it is about our magic! It is sad and disturbing in parts, violent and brutal in others but all together a very readable book! My heart was in my mouth at times and broke a thousand times.This is not a book I will soon forget! . Would I recommend it? YES!!! Hey guys! I'm going to keep this quick cause I'm tired, and in the middle of my dinner break at work. But I promise this is the last post from me for today. I am so happy to have this book in my library. I've had my eye on this book since I first heard about it, months ago. I can't wait to get round to reading it! I didn’t post much of anything last week because I was adapting to starting college and was wanting to focus more of that for this first week. I’m going into my second week after being out for Labor Day yesterday, so I’m going to try to get more consistent with posting again. I need to take pictures and get things ready to post, but I’m hoping I can get on a good schedule while at uni 😊 • • It occurred to me that I never did an August Wrap Up, so I’m going to do one now! I managed to read 6 books in August, and I finished my Goodreads Goal! I cannot believe August is already over! This month flew by, and I did not read nearly as much as I had hoped while we were traveling and helping out with family. (Think: suitcase of books packed. No joke. (It was a small one!) 2 books read while traveling. Maybe.)⠀ ⠀ Oh well! Life happens, I guess. The ones I did get through were amazing. I stumbled upon Attachments on Kindle, and I always love Rainbow Rowell (and was shocked to learn that was her first novel... so good!). I wrote on here about how powerful Wenjack was, and I ALWAYS love the Saga comics. Americanah was a phenomenal book as well -- I loved the intricate layers of the storyline, the examination of what it means to be a woman, the exploration of Nigerian and American cultures, and the exploration of a love story as it plays out over many years and multiple continents. ⠀ ⠀ We're discussing With the Fire on High on @unabridgedpod this Wednesday! Honestly, I though August was going to be a really slow reading month for me. I fractured my ankle within the first 10 days, and for the first few days of my “keep your foot up and elevated” weeks (ugh) I was not wanting to read. At all. I really wasn’t in the mood to do anything because I was frustrated and in pain (walking on a fractured ankle before knowing it was fractured is not something I would recommend). Thank God for ibuprofen and Netflix, right? • Despite the sudden jolt during the first half of this month, I had a really good month reading-wise! Topping off at 11 books this month, I was actually able to finish the two for #sweetbookishandanne and one for the #theunreadshelfproject2019. Most of my reading now seems to be via audiobooks, and this month was definitely no exception: out of the 11 books total, only 3 were books that I read in their entirety without switching back and forth between physical and audio or just plain audio! (Books read that aren’t pictured: Love and Other Words by Christina Lauren and Royally Yours by Emma Chase.) • QOTD: What was your favorite read this month? AOTD: I read some really good ones this month, but I was pleasantly surprised by Six of Crows. Combination of not being the biggest Grishaverse fan out there and being told SoC was slow and you just have to get through it to get to Crooked Kingdom made me think I’d hate it. I am making a new tag in celebration for my favorite Sophie Kinsella book coming out in theaters this month. So all those I’ve tagged here it is... 📖 The #CanYouKeepASecretTag where we tell at least 5 small “Secrets”. Like little white lies that you haven’t spoken about to others. The main character in this book makes a funny confession to someone. 📖 Here are my 5 secrets: 1. I am a klutz with flip flops. Last year I actually tripped over them and broke my arm. This is the scar that I hardly show here. It goes from my wrist to elbow. 2. I have not finished reading a Stephen King book. There I said it. I’ve started like 2 of his books last year but then dnf. 3. I actually do really like Stewie (my sister’s cat). My dog Peanut is sometimes jealous when she sees me petting the cat. 4. I am secretly a fan of picture books. I love reading these books to my nieces and nephew and just wish I could add them to my Goodreads books I’ve read. 5. I dislike anime. I'm going to be heading back from Dublin today but I had such a great weekend. It was so nice to wear lolita again and meet up with real friends. It was so good! I'm currently recovering from a long island ice tea I had last night but happy. I hope one day I'm able to move out closer so I can do this more and without an almost 3 hour bus ride 😂 I'm hoping to stop by Penneys and maybe Forbidden Planet before I go home. A light sci-fi/romance, it just hits me in all the right places emotionally. . 📚 Wilder Girls ⭐⭐⭐⭐- I liked how creepy this story was, and it was an interesting take on sapphic horror. I wish more had been explained about the disease spreading across the island. . 📚 The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐- I finally read this, and yes it was fantastic. I loved the juicy behind-the-scenes look into Hollywood, and the characters were so complex and memorable. . 📚 The Last Houseguest ⭐⭐⭐.5 - An atmospheric mystery/thriller, this one excels at creating small-town vibes with a cast of suspicious characters. Even though I didn't love the ending and it was a bit slow, it was enjoyable. . 📚 The Wicked King ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐- I am seriously blown away by how good this was. It takes everything that was good about The Cruel Prince and perfects it. The romantic angst, the court politics, and the lush writing were amazing and I can't wait for book 3. . 📚 The Lady Rogue ⭐⭐⭐- While this was a well-crafted adventurous romp through Eastern Europe, I'm not a huge fan of historical fiction/folklore. I do enjoy Bennett's writing and it was action-packed. . 📚 The Unhoneymooners ⭐⭐⭐⭐.5 - This is now my second favourite Christina Lauren! What was one of your favorite reads this month? . My wrap-up: The Traitor Prince by C.J. Redwine: Loved, loved, loved this one. Fast-paced and heartfelt and so much truth. Beautiful. 💗 . Story Raider by Lindsay Franklin: An excellent sequel to Story Peddler - can't wait for book 3! . Again but Better by Christine Riccio: A cute contemporary romance about second chances. I hadn't realized there was a magical element to this one, so that was a fun surprise! . Shadow's Edge & Beyond Shadows by Brent Weeks (books 2 and 3 in Night Angel Trilogy): Oh man, where to start. These books are brutal on the emotions - yet there's a ton of hope and redemption too. But definitely not for the faint of heart - there's quite a bit of graphic material here, and I don't recommend them for younger readers. . Audiobooks: Hero of Ages by Brandon Sanderson (Mistborn book 3) - I'd forgotten how cool Spook's arc was in this one. Also, aaallll the feelings for the ending of this book. 😭😭😭 . Alloy of Law by Brandon Sanderson (Book 1 in second Mistborn series - I don't think I fully appreciated Steris on my first readthrough. She's fantastic. Also Wayne's accent in the audiobook was hilarious.) . Gemina by Jay Kristoff and Amie Kaufman - Wow, I actually loved the audiobook of this one way more than I liked the printed version of Illuminae. Which I realize is weird given how beautiful the print books are in this series. But the full cast audiobook helped me get into the characters' heads more and actually feel their emotions. 😊😊 . #bookbookowlhashtagaugust – #lovetoread (favorite book this month): So many good choices, but I think I might go with Traitor Prince. I had to lay off buying books this month because I had so many other expenses to cover with moving and car troubles. I've seen and heard so many people speak so highly of this book, and I really didn't like it that much. Where do you get your books for bookstagram? Buy them or borrow them from the library? . I actually don't own a ton of books (comparatively anyway), so I borrow quite a few from the library. Today, I checked out about 25 books from the library and laughed at myself as I carted all of them out to my car in two overflowing bags--anyone watching was probably fairly impressed. Little to they know these will all be returned as soon as I take pictures of them. 😂 *** Up until a couple days ago, I actually didn't think I was going to have any books to show for a bookhaul! Then I took a look at the Kindle versions for LOTR and discovered they were free if you had Amazon Prime. 🌿 Well, here it is, the end of August. That means it’s time for my reading Wrap Up so brace yourselves because I apparently read a lot of books this month. 😂 - 🌿 I reread 3 books: The Ocean at the End of the Lane, Sky in the Deep and Breaking Dawn and they were all great rereading experiences! (Yes, including BD! 😆) - I also finally finished The Beast Player, which was a solid 4 stars for me. - But let me tell you, my absolute favorite book this month was The Unhoneymooners (⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️). I binge read that book after the horrible slump The Astonishing Color of After put me in (⭐️⭐️) and it was exactly what I needed. - I also really enjoyed The Sun is Also a Star (4.5 stars) and Roar (3.75 stars)! - And then we have: • The Girl the Sea Gave Back (⭐️⭐️⭐️💫) • The Lonely Polar Bear (⭐️⭐️⭐️ - 5 star for the art, 1.5 for the story 😅) • Mistborn: The Secret History (⭐️⭐️⭐️) • Sadly, I also tried to read We Hunt the Flame for the #BookQueenReads but I could never get into it so I put it aside to try again later. - - Oh, and I’m still reading The Girl Who Drank The Moon, which I am hoping to finish today. - 🌿 Whew! I’d hoped to read more but lost a week with our church VBS, and we started school so I guess I’ll take it! 📘 I read a fun dragon filled novel by my friend @savannahjgoins called The Gwythienian (secret: I’m currently reading an ARC of book 2, The Crivabanian, and am loving it!); I literally devoured @linzyafranklin’s The Story Peddler (so, sooooo good!); and had the privilege of reading an ARC of The Girl The Sea Gave Back, a follow-up novel to Sky In The Deep (I loooooved the first book, but this one didn’t grab me in the same way. 🌼 QOTD: Where do you take your pictures? I'm still all over the place because my books are in boxes but I discovered that our fence in our back yard has all these pretty flowers. No idea what they are but I love it! . Also, I am still freaking out that I have a copy of A Heart so Fierce and Broken by the super amazing @brigidkemmerer. I read A Curse so Dark and Lonely this month and it was my FAVORITE read of the month! Thank you with all of my heart, soul and whatever else I sacrificed to get this beautiful book @bloomsburypublishing 😚 . This super cute sleeve is by the best team ever! August wrap-up... with sincere apologies for my handwriting! 📝⁣ ⁣ Several books I read this month were audio or etext, and most have been returned to the library, so no bookstack here, I’m afraid. ⁣ ⁣ I finished 17 books in August, including 3 rereads.
