Cossack squats are a dynamic and challenging exercise that can be a great addition to your pre-bedtime routine. To perform a Cossack squat, stand with your feet wider than shoulder-width apart, toes pointed slightly outward. Keeping your torso upright, send your hips back and lower into a deep squat, allowing one leg to straighten while the other remains bent. Switch sides, lowering into a deep squat on the opposite leg. This lateral motion stretches the inner thighs, groin, and hips while also engaging the core and leg muscles. Cossack squats can help release tension and tightness, improving mobility and flexibility before bedtime. Orthodontics can do magic ✨️✅️✨️ This young girl had persistence of her 2nd lower baby molars due to an agenesis (genetic absence) of her second lower premolars. 🌶SPICY SIDE BOX SERIES🌶 This is actually one of my favorite set ups with the box and reformer.  I've come up with a few spicy moves to liven up my planks, pikes and more! I'm on 1 heavy 🔴 spring for the lunge with rotation and lunge push up, and one medium 🔵 spring for all others except the side slide rotation, 0️⃣ springs. Every year when March Matness rolls around in our online pilates community, I’m cognizant of the passing of time. Has it really been seven of these I’ve been lucky enough to witness? I’ve seen old faces from years past and new ones who have brought fresh perspectives. I always think of those who are no longer here, and wonder how they are. I’d guess it was the algorithm, life or a combination of both that caused them to say goodbye 😂…. I can relate. I decided to do a thorough cleaning on my reformer and popped the shoulder rests off 🤔….hmmmmm, I remembered an inspiring post I saw with this setup in mind. Thanks Erin @foundation.pilates…..this was a killer. So why the shoulder rests off? It allows me to scoot forward and rest my head comfortably on the carriage. Ahhh…oh so nice. Hip flexors crying watching this? Mine too 🙋🏻‍♀️, so legs slightly turned out was a must in the last two working slides. Find a glorious stretch in the end 🙌. Make Some Movement, Motivational, Miracle, MonSLAY! Monday, Week 3, Day 11, @bodi @surethingprogram , Endurance Strength, with @megandaviesfitness . Back at endurance with weights and sliders this week. It's time to see if we've grown any since week 1! And I, for one, can tell you, I know I did because I was up in my toes for slider pushups. I upped my weights for most moves, and I stuck to a little heavier weight for longer on my run to rack 90-second lift! It wasn't huge strides, but there was still growth and plenty to celebrate! Mondays...huh, here we are again. The BEST and WORST day of the week wrapped up into one. The day that you hate because it means the weekends over, but the day you love because this is where you set your tone for the week to come. Have you ever heard someone running next to you? I’m talking about the pounding of the feet with each footfall. To improve someone’s running form, this is one of the easiest cues to give. “Just try not to make a sound when you run.” This simple cue can fix and improve posture, stride length, and striking mechanics. Using this, I have instantly helped people’s knee pain while running go away. It works great for running. However, this same cue can make other forms of training both better and more interesting. One thing that happens during strength training is that you must slow down and control the load. Often, you will need to use a lighter weight. And it will force you to “own” the movement. You will slow down, hit the end ranges of movement in control, and have more time under tension. This is a great way to train if you are at home and have limited equipment. You can try: 𝐋𝐈𝐅𝐓𝐈𝐍𝐆– This is a great modification for deadlifts, renegade rows, and sumo squats. 𝐑𝐔𝐍𝐍𝐈𝐍𝐆 – Try not to make a sound like you are sneaking up on someone or running barefoot. You can really experience this clearly on a treadmill (during these winter training months). 𝐉𝐔𝐌𝐏𝐈𝐍𝐆– Use your calves, quads and hammies to absorb the load. It works for squat jumps, tuck jumps, box jumps, jumping jacks, and jumping rope. 𝐂𝐀𝐑𝐑𝐘𝐈𝐍𝐆 – Any carry will do: farmer, suitcase, waiter, overhead. Slow way down, take small steps and imagine you are walking on ice That’s it for now. Do you want to build strength AND stability?!? Every Saturday morning at 11:00 at an amazing fitness studio in the Junction called @connectfitnessstudio I teach a strength based Mobility and Stability class. The class is broken down into 3 components: ⭐️Mobility - as we age we lose mobility including range of motion doing basic primal movements such as bending down to tie our shoelaces or reaching up high for something. In class we focus on improving range of motion for parts of the body such as the hips (if you sit most of the day, you likely have tight hips!), shoulders, and ankles. ⭐️Stability - in this portion we focus on stability improving movements such as single leg toe touches and single leg step ups to build stability. Test out your stability now- stand and do 10 single leg toe touches without losing balance, not letting the other foot touch the ground. Not as easy as it sounds right? We practice movements over and over that help build that stability. ⭐️Strength- lastly we tie this all in together with a final strength portion that requires stability, mobility AND strength. This is where we add in some resistance with either Kettle bells, dumbbells, landmines, isometrics etc…and we focus on slow controlled movement. Although this is a lower impact class, the impact it makes to range of motion and stability is exponential. If you already strength train, this class will complement that improving your range of motion in your current lifts, which could lead you to some PR’s! Or, if you’re looking to just get into fitness and want something that you can ease into and reap the benefits, this is a perfect starting place! Well, I lost my voice yesterday 🥴. Some might think this is a good thing, since I have a tendency to talk too loud. In fact, the first time my husband and spoke on the phone, he had to hold it away from his ear 😂. Make Some Movement, Motivational, Miracle, MonSLAY! Monday, Week 3, Day 11, @bodi @surethingprogram , Endurance Strength, with @megandaviesfitness . Back to Sliders and weights today. We alternated for 6 blocks between weights and sliders. 1st, your slider move for 6 reps, then your weighted move for 30 seconds, and that worked the same muscle groups as the sliders. All 6 blocks were repeated 3x's. Then, between blocks 3 akd 4 and after block 6, we did 90-second burnout moves. Starting heavy and dropping weight of needed as the time went on. The 1st one was tricep kickbacks, and the finisher was bicep curls. This workout is just over 40 minutes long and works literally every muscle in your body. It's not overly complicated, but the moves and balance definitely make it a challenge. So, yeah....Monday. the night where I woke up at 2:49AM and couldn't fall back to sleep. The night where I wake up and realize that I have to go to work the next day. Yes, the Monday after a GREAT HOLIDAY weekend. These ones are always the hardest. Getting the kids back in the swing after a week off. Getting my own butt back in gear after 4 days off. It's going to be ugh, but it will get done. For all of you in the same boat. I FEEL YOU! BUT WE CAN DO IT! My workout was my 1st step. Now the rest of my day should be a piece of cake 🎂, right? Wish me luck, lol. Nothing better than finding inspiring movement 🤗….well, spending the day shopping might be a close second 😉. I saw my girl @aprilstamos do these first two box moves and I said to myself, “giddy up….I’m trying these.” Love love love! Press that standing side of your calf into the box….it will absolutely help your balance. Next three slides are a staple in my teaching repertoire courtesy of @andremazpa_pilates that I STILL remember to this day. Once an inspiring move, always an inspiring move 🤩. Full Body Pilates workout that you can do against a wall instead because obviously you don’t have this giant log to do this with … but when I came across it at the beach I couldn’t pass it up. It’s so solid, good job whoever put it there! Here is the breakdown: 1. Knee pulls 2. Rainbow taps 3. Push ups 4. Lunge hold & thoracic rotation 5. Hip roll bridge 6. Ab curl + reach 7. Hundred 8. It’s time for another edition of “what I teach, I do 😉.” This might appear simple, but it is far from it. Gimme a little rotation any day, and I’m a happy camper. Incline Leg Press! Today I went for the 250kg again but focused more into the depth of motion instead of just lifting heavier and not necessarily deep, as I did last week. Give it a try on your next press and you'll find that it's a lot harder, but if you keep that consistent and push it, then you're onto a winner winner! Day 34 The Push Up The push up is a big challenge. It takes time to build up the core structure, arm strength, and stability required to fully do this exercise. It comes in as the final exercise on the list in Joseph Pilates's format of exercises. The Pilates push-up (commonly known as a press up) is a total body exercise. Practicing it strengthens your arms and shoulders, but you must also use your abs and core muscles to stabilize your torso. Doing the push-up with proper form helps you make the most of the exercise. Remember that's it's not how many of these you do, but how well you do each one of them. Focus on perfect alignment of your body. Keep your shoulder blades down as you lower from plank position to bent elbows. The shoulder blades should not lift up or move toward each other. This is an essential part of the exercise as it teaches you to stabilize your shoulders and torso. We have Luke doing an impressive full press up, Julie doing them on her knees and then John in the last video against a wall standing. As long as you have great form it doesn’t matter!
