April Reading Wrap-up! I had a bust month but still was able to read 12 books!!! I just loved all four of the Twisted series by Ana Huang!! After reading the books out in her King of Sin series, I knew I had to read more of her books! 😍 I have been impatiently waiting for A Touch of Chaos, the last in the Hades and Persephone series. It did not disappoint! I like how it wrapped everything up, especially with the B&N bonus chapter, and left it open for future spinoff series!! A Tempest of Tea wasn't what I expected, but it was fantastic!!! I can't wait for the next book in the series! #readingwrapup #atouchofchaos #twistedlove #twistedhate #twistedgames #twistedlies #twistedbookseries #atempestoftea #apromiseofperidot #deadthingsarecloserthantheyappear #bloodandmoonlight #bookrecommendations

#bookreview Book 23: Dead Things Are Closer Than They Appear by Robin Wasley Rating: 4.25⭐/5 This is a debut novel. A DEBUT novel. (me who’s still processing this) Wow, this book impressed me! Wasley’s novel has so many components that fit together nicely and put the reader into the world she created. The premise of this book hooked me write from the start: a dark, apocalyptic, high-stakes story full of magic, zombies, and characters with transferable powers. I thought Wasley was really creative in the ways she had magic manifest in this book. On a whole, the book was fun and exciting but also got you to feel for the characters and love the bonds they formed with each other. Wasley explores found family, female friendship, and the feeling of being second in your own life. The latter theme especially captivated me because it’s rare to find a story where the main character isn’t the most special, the most powerful, or not-like-other-girls in a way that feels a little unrealistic. I appreciate how Sid slowly grew into her role as the main character, becoming more powerful but also finding herself overtime. It took me a little while to get into the story, but after some initial bumps I was able to connect with Sid and admire and relate to her. Her emotions felt real, her friendships warmed my heart and crushed it at the same time, and I just really love Sid as a person because she genuinely felt like someone you would know and love in real life. Some parts of the storyline itself could have been fleshed out more, but at the same time it really got you to focus on her emotions and character development. The writing was a little too YA for my taste, making it difficult to stay immersed in the story. However, Sid’s humor really grew on me and towards the end I really appreciate how her personality shines through the writing. Wasley succeeded with this novel because all of the characters she created added so much to the story and were unique and lovable. All in all, I think you should give this one a try!

Dead Things Are Closer Than They Appear by Robin Wasley Summary: Wellsie is a magical town which also makes it a tourist trap. Sid is an average teenager, working at a coffee shop and mourning the loss of her best friend to a guy. Then everything changes when one of the magical faults ruptures, leaving the town in an apocalyptic state. Sid is separated from her friends and family at her home, with only Chad the cat as company. Her rescue leads her on an adventure through town as she pairs up with survivors and goes on a mission to end the magical apocalypse. Review: I learned about this book sometime last year and had the Amazon preorder open on my phone for months. A deeply average teen navigating the apocalypse sounded amusing, and this book pulled it off spectacularly! Sid was such a likeable character and the crew she ends up with were dimensional and distinct. Chad the cat was possibly my favorite thing from the book. I also really appreciated that the epilogue navigates the trauma Sid experienced and the importance of therapy. Overall this is an extremely solid book that I'm glad to add to my collection. #books #bookish #bookreader #bookreview #bookv #bookcommunity #bookstagram #bookinstagram #bookrecommendations #booksuggestions #deadthingsarecloserthantheyappear #robinwasley #champagnebookproblems

I was approved for the audiobook of Dead Things Are Closer Than They Appear by @robinwasley on @netgalley and missed the email!! This book came out on February 13th, and the audiobook was released on February 27th, and when I finally listened to it I loved it! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The reason this book was on my radar was because of Kelly Andrews posting about it on her stories. It seemed an appropriately creepy book for the author of Your Blood, My Bones (of which I was lucky to read an early copy!) to be promoting, and the book did not disappoint! To anyone familiar with YBMB, DTACTTA is like what would happen if Wyatt, Peter, and James hadn’t done the things they did. If you’ve ever seen Cabin in the Woods, DTACTTA is a lot like what happens after the you-know-what is released. It also reminded me of every single apocalypse episode of Buffy. Sid was so easy for me to relate to–especially regarding the trauma of curly hair!–but also because of the way she describes feeling like an outsider in her town and in her family, but then having developed such a strong connection with her brother. Despite the apocalyptic overtones of this book, and the romantic undertones, it deals a lot with otherness, family dynamics, the complications of friendship, the choice of helping whether it benefits one or not, and the complexities of empathy. This book was full of quotable material, resilient teens who save the day, and enough romance to keep it light when zombies are at your door. I recommend it to anyone who enjoys the above-mentioned as well as fans of The Darkest Minds. 5 stars! Dead Things are Closer Than They Appear By: Robin Wasley Pub. Date: February 13th, 2024 4 ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ Narrator: Eunice Wong I probably should have read the synopsis better. Because I was definitely not expecting such a dark ya book with zombie-like creatures. I was scared and anxious while listening to the audiobook. I'm a big chicken. The writing and narrator made me feel like I was there. I don't like zombie movies or TV shows. This was definitely out of my comfort zone. Read if you like: 🖤 dark ya books 🖤 Zombies 🖤 Magic 🖤 Walking Dead Thank you @netgalley & @dreamscape_media For an early gifted copy ALC for an honest review. #netgalley #dreamscapemedia #advancedlisteningcopy #deadthingsarecloserthantheyappear #robinwasley #yabooks

dead things are closer than they appear 🌿 after reading this book i absolutely cannot believe that it was a debut?! i think this is genuinely the best fantasy standalone i’ve ever read. like i actually have not been able to stop thinking about it since i finished. i absolutely loved the writing style in this book. it was beautifully descriptive but still had the lighthearted charm of having a teenage narrator. i was immediately hooked on the strangely magical small town setting we were put in and it only took a few pages for me to get a feel for our main character, sid, and become attached to her. i related to her so much in the aspect of the problems she was having with her best friends. as amazing and intense as the plot of this book was, the storyline between sid and her ex-best friend and the complicated feelings there was just as important to me. I really loved the way that part turned out in the end. god, i don’t even know where to begin talking about the rest of the book. the found family trope was amazing here as well as the subtle slow burn romance subplot. i actually really liked that the romance wasn’t a huge part of the plot itself. i didn’t want anything to take away from this incredibly intense, dark, and high-stakes apocalyptic story. the author was not afraid to let things get violent and for people to die which i also really appreciated. the way magic manifested in people in all these strange little powers was also so cool to me. it was really fun to see so many of these out of the box and useful powers as compared to the basic abilities everyone thinks of when you say super powers. i really just cannot say enough how cool this book was. it was just so different from anything i’ve ever read before and it was amazing. i got to a certain point and i just couldn’t stop—time completely slipped away and then i was done and wished it had never ended. 5 ⭐️!! i would love to see more work by robin, this writing was incredible! (shoutout to the rainbow that appeared as i was taking this photo—which if you’ve read the book you know how perfect that is 😆)

Book Review: Dead Things are Closer than they Appear by Robin Wasley 🗝️ 4⭐️ If the walking dead was a YA fantasy book, it would be this book. Sid Spencer is an average teenage girl, in a small town that used to be filled with magic. That magic is now locked away and kept safe by guardians to prevent people from using and abusing it. Until one of the guardians is killed and the magic is released. Sid has to join forces with the remaining guardians and a few survivors to lock up the magic and find her missing brother. I really enjoyed this, I loved the found family aspect and Sid’s growth throughout this book. I listed to the audiobook and Eunice Wong did such a great job narrating and bringing so much life to each of the characters. I was so so immersed while listening. The characters are all high school aged and the awkward teenage feelings are captured perfectly. My favourite example of this is when the FMC is describing what she thinks being hugged would be like as being engulfed by a phagocyte. I really enjoyed the premise and the overall message of the book but I found it a little long in places. It didn’t take away from my enjoyment though. This is mostly character driven which I don’t usually like but I found the ideas were original enough to keep me interested. This book has a gripping narrative that involves magic, zombies, found family, adoption, minority representation, the list goes on and on! There is fantastic character development as our "plain Jane" rocks it and becomes a bad ass hero! There is a unique exploration of themes such as mortality, identity, and the human condition. 🥀Audiobook Reviews🥀 🕷Hello loves! It's Wednesday(yes, it's actually Wednesday this time. I forgot to edit my template last time lol) and that means it's time for some new audiobook reviews! As always, thank you to @netgalley and all the publishers below for approving me for these advance audiobooks. 🕸My Thoughts🕸 ⛧Dead Things Are Closer Than They Appear by Robin Wasley - I'm not sure how this book managed to be wholly unique but also an amalgamation of literally every YA urban fantasy book ever. The dialog, the characters, the humor, just everything was so fun, and I laughed out loud a bunch of times. I loved the snarky MC, and I'm so happy with how her story ended. Magic, zombies, a cat named Chad, this book has so much to offer. This audiobook is narrated by Eunice Wong •Thank you to @dreamscape_media & @simonteen ⛧Make Her Pay by Miranda Rijks- Look, the entire book was good and all, but THE MOTHER AND BEST FRIEND THING OVERSHADOWED EVERYTHING. But, I somehow guessed that was the situation, so I shouldn't have been surprised... YET, I WAS. Anyways, it's a good thriller, you should read it 😂 This audiobook is narrated by Charlie Albers & Ella Lynch •Thank you to @dreamscape_media & @inkubatorbooks ⛧The Cursed by Harper L. Woods - I did enjoy this one, but the beginning was very draggy. I feel like it suffered from second-book-syndrome or maybe I just liked the enemies to lovers action from book 1, and we obviously don't get that in book 2. This audiobook is narrated by Ellis Evans & Emilia Bauer •Thank you to @dreamscape_media & @brambleromance 💬ⓆⓄⓉⒹ: Tell me something that has been bothering you lately 🏷 #books #booknerdigans #bookstagram #read #horrorreader #bookworm #bibliophile #horrorcommunity #bookish #bookhaul #audiobook #bookreview #spooky #spookyseason #horror #halloween #halloweendecorations #allthingsspooky #darkbookstagram #creepsgetlit #goth #CodeOrange #darkacademia #horrorbooks #netgalley #macabre #harperlwoods #deadthingsarecloserthantheyappear #makeherpay

Meet the Author Monday!! You guys know my ❤️ for DEAD THINGS ARE CLOSER THAN THEY APPEAR by @robinwasley ... so I had to interview her! 1️⃣ Where do you live? Boston, MA! I’ve lived in New England all my life. 2️⃣ What book was your favorite growing up? I’d have to say Anne of Green Gables. I have a soft spot for emotional and dramatic orphans, but this book also had the one protagonist I saw myself in when I was growing up. 3️⃣ What would you like your readers to take away from your book? It’s gonna sound sappy, but it’s that everyone matters, that being just like everyone else is actually one of the greatest things we have. Sometimes, we are not extraordinary in a way that is easily visible to everyone and that is okay. That doesn’t mean we don’t matter. Everyone has a gift to give; everyone is capable of changing someone else, and therefore the world, in some way. 4️⃣ Congratulations on your debut book! It’s fabulous! What’s next??Honestly, a little break. I need to focus on some life things I’ve been neglecting for, um, several years, and it does take me ages to put together a story. But I will say that the project I’m slowly noodling on will of course be a genre mash and may just roll in my love of BTS. 5️⃣ What’s your favorite ice cream flavor? It’s a three-way tie between mint chocolate cookie, peanut butter cup, and straight up vanilla bean. I’m a mood eater. 6️⃣ What are your highs and lows of being an author? High: Having readers resonate with my words. Our books spend so long in our heads just for us and there’s always this fear that no one will love them the way we do. For me, when someone gets it, it feels like I’m talking to people, people I’ve never met, and having a moment of connection. And when someone Asian American reads about Sid and tells me they felt seen, it’s everything. Low: Writing can be really hard and time-consuming and stressful LOL. Most writers have other jobs to survive and for me, balancing writing with my other responsibilities is the most challenging part. CONTINUED IN COMMENTS

❓How’s March going for you? Read anything interesting? 👀 I took a weeklong writing break, which was nice and refreshing! Now I’m back working on developing some ideas for future books. My 2yo also started preschool recently, and she’s been loving it. :) Today I wanted to share about an awesome book that came out last month! I got to read an early copy of DEAD THINGS ARE CLOSER THAN THEY APPEAR, and friends, it is incredible! This local apocalypse YA horror/fantasy is wryly funny, crushingly relatable, and heartfelt all the way through. It also has a gorgeous cover with foil on the lettering, so it shimmers in the light. Sooo cool. If you haven’t picked it up yet, I hope you’ll consider it! My favorite line from a review I just read “this read very YA, I guess because it is a YA book.” 🤦🏻‍♀️ 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️ People are hilarious! Anyways, want some awesome YA book recommendations? They might read like YA books - beware! The books pictured here are some of my most recent five star reads and all are super different but were so much fun to read. Daughter of the Bone Forest by Jasmine Skye - YA Fantasy set at a magic school with all sorts of teen drama and angst but also witches and familiars, shape shifting, necromancy, and a very slow burn sapphic romance! One of the best YA fantasies I’ve read in awhile. Dead Things Are Closer Than They Appear by Robin Wasley - YA Contemporary Fantasy that is Scooby Doo meets Buffy meets X-Men! This book had such an endearing cast of characters and I literally couldn’t put it down. Snowglobe by Soyoung Park (translated by Joungmin Lee Comfort) - YA Dystopian set in a world where the average temperature is -50°F and an elite group of people get to live in a giant temperature controlled domed city, with their lives broadcast 24/7 as entertainment to the world outside. It’s full of great twists and turns and I’m so excited there’s going to be another book! * * What’s one of your recent five star reads?

my favorite female characters જ⁀➴₊⊹ 🎀 inspired by: @ashleys.bookshelf13 ˚˙୨⧼🎀⧽୧˙˚ • pippa fitz amobi: a good girls guide to murder • juliette cai: these violent delights • annabeth chase: percy jackson • sid spencer: dead things are closer than they appear • inej ghafa & nina zenik: six of crows • magaret wetly: a far wilder magic my favorite thing about reading is falling in love with the characters on the page. The way you get invested in thief story and hope for the best for them. The best feeling is getting immersed in a book it feels like the characters are speaking directly to you

TOUR POST~ This is my stop on @tbrbeyondtours for the book Dead Things Are Closer Than They Appear by Robin Wasley! SYNOPSIS: A painfully average teen’s life is upended by a magical apocalypse in this darkly atmospheric and sweepingly romantic novel perfect for fans of The Raven Boys , Buffy the Vampire Slayer , and The Rest of Us Just Live Here . High school is hard enough to survive without an apocalypse to navigate. Sid Spencer has always been the most normal girl in her abnormal hometown, a tourist trap built over one of the fault lines that seal magic away from the world. Meanwhile, all Sid has to deal with is hair-ruining humidity, painful awkwardness, being one of four Asians in town, and her friends dumping her when they start dating each other—just days after one of the most humiliating romantic rejections faced by anyone, ever, in all of history. Then someone kills one of the Guardians who protect the seal. The earth rips open and unleashes the magic trapped inside. Monsters crawl from the ground, no one can enter or leave, and the man behind it all is roaming the streets with a gang of violent vigilantes. Suddenly, Sid’s life becomes a lot less ordinary. When she finds out her missing brother is involved, she joins the remaining Guardians, desperate to find him and close the fault line for good. Fighting through hordes of living corpses and uncontrollable growths of forest, Sid and a ragtag crew of would-be heroes are the only thing standing between their town and the end of the world as they know it. Between magic, murderers, and burgeoning crushes, Sid must survive being a perfectly normal girl caught in a perfectly abnormal apocalypse. Only—how can someone so ordinary make it in such an extraordinary world? #bookstagram #yabooks #tbrandbeyond #tbrandbeyondtours #bookish #yafantasy #yaparanormal #deadthingsarecloserthantheyappear #robinwasley

Reposted from @belle.bookcorner 🌿 𝗕𝗢𝗢𝗞 𝗧𝗢𝗨𝗥 + 𝗥𝗘𝗩𝗜𝗘𝗪 🌿 • This is an action-packed story where some parts are very intense and nerve-wrecking as the characters fight to survive the terrifying horde of zombies while searching for a way to defeat the evil guy. I really like the world building of this book, the combination of fantasy and modern setting is very compelling🤩 The writing style is easy to read and describes the emotions felt by the characters vividly such as love, forgiveness, hope, longing, loss, grief and acceptance. I absolutely love the characters growth throughout the story as they overcome each challenges heading their way. A dash of slow burn romance blooming among the characters is also delightful to see!🥰 Overall, for a debut novel this is a fascinating story with a satisfying ending🤗 I really enjoy my time reading this book and I will keep an eye out for another book by this author in the future🙌 • • ❗️𝐒𝐖𝐈𝐏𝐄 𝐋𝐄𝐅𝐓 to read the blurb of the book!➡️ • • A massive thank you to @tbrbeyondtours, @netgalley and @robinwasley for giving the e-ARC and for having me on this tour!🤗 • • 🔗 Head over to TBR and Beyond Tour website to see the tour schedule, the link and purchase link of the book is on my bio!⬆️ • • 🌿 Qᴏᴛᴅ: ᴡʜᴀᴛ ʙᴏᴏᴋ/ꜱ ᴡɪᴛʜ ʟᴏɴɢ ᴛɪᴛʟᴇꜱ ʜᴀᴠᴇ ʏᴏᴜ ʀᴇᴀᴅ/ꜱᴇᴇɴ ? • • • • • • • • • • • • #DeadThingsAreCloserThanTheyAppear #TBRBeyondTours #RobinWasley # DeadThingsAreCloserThanTheyAppearreview #booktour #bookstagramtour #arcreview #bookreview #netgalley #yafantasy #contemporaryfantasy #postapocalyptiC

Reposted from @therearenobadbooks Didn't expect this to be a zombie book. Awesome. 5 stars This is such a fun read. 🧟‍♀️🧟‍♂️ It goes from: her only worries being how to not switch a coffee order... to zombies running after them in two chapters. I had a great time reading it. The dialogue is fun, their interactions are hilarious, the characters are interesting, and we keep learning more and more about them and their skills as we go. I will listen to the audiobook as well in the future because the characters are worth it. The villain is fun as well. I recommend this to urban fantasy/ dystopian, zombies/ superpowers, and a hint of magic fan readers. Reposted from @pagesforpaige Book Tour Review! I'm so so so excited to be on the tour for Dead Things are Closer Than They Appear by Robin Wasley @robinwasley, published by @simonteen, hosted by @tbrbeyondtours! Wellsie is built over a mine of fault lines, cracks in certain places that can lead to things … bad and undead things. Not at all creepy, right? For Sid Spencer, being one of the only Asian in town and her high school is hard enough, but, after a humiliating love letter she can’t bring herself to show her face in public. But when a Guardian is killed, one of the fault lines open up. Now, undead creatures are roaming Wellsie. Things are quickly spiraling out of control and all Sid wants back is her old life (as miserable as it was) and her adopted family. Especially her brother Matty. To do this, Sid must team up with an intense group of Guardians to survive the next few weeks. I mean, it's just a bunch of zombies chasing you everywhere and you have no idea what to do. Not challenging at al! This book was so much fun to read. It had me screaming in terror some times ... had to walk around reading the book to keep me from getting too freaked out! But it also had me howling with laughter in other parts. I loved this book so much! I especially appreciated all the diverse characters. It was so unique and a fresh take on an apocalyptic world sprinkled with magic. All my friends saw the cover, read the synopsis and have lined up to read it next! I wholeheartedly recommend this book!! Rating: 10 out of 10 Thank you to @simonteen and @robinwasley for the book to read and review. It was brilliant! Reposted @quirkylitlover 💀TBR Beyond Tour Post💀 Today is release day for Dead Things Are Closer Than They Appear by @robinwasley so I’m going to share my top 5 reasons why you should read this book! 💀 An Ordinary Girl-I love it when ordinary people face challenges and wind up being a hero. 💀 A Missing Brother-The existence of a missing brother deepens the plot and serves as the reason why a normal girl would get involved. 💀 A Magical Apocalypse-I love all books that are related to an apocalypse and I appreciate that this apocalypse is different from what we usually see in other books. 💀 Monsters & Muderers-does this one need an explanation?!?! Of course the story needs a bad guy…all the better if there are different types of bad guys! 💀Developing crushes-of course most YA books (and books in general) need at least a touch of romance. I appreciate that the romance doesn’t overwhelm the story! Reposted @mandyisreading_ 👻BOOK TOUR STOP👻 Dead Things Are Closer Than They Appear by @robinwasley Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I absolutely LOVED this book. I’m always intrigued by post apocalyptic books, and this one had a magical realism twist in that things are pretty much as they are now, but there are fault lines that have magic, and there are Guardians of them who have their own powers. When one of the Guardians dies, the fault line cracks open and Magic spreads. Now more people have Magic, but with magic comes greed. Ford is like the governor from the Walking Dead, or really like any of the antagonist, and he will stop at nothing to have all of the Keys to the fault lines and the powers of the guardians. He wants to be the most powerful. Sid is about as average of a teenage girl you can be, but the apocalypse brings her to center stage when her brother goes missing, and she finds herself tied in with a gang of other teens who have powers. And the twist on her power is AWESOME. In essence, it’s about a group of teens trying to save their town from Magic (being badly used) with Magic, and just finding the humanity in everyone. People change in times of crisis, for the worse or better, and it will really show you who people are. Thank you @tbrbeyondtours for an early copy of this incredible book! Be sure to check out their site for the rest of the tour! —- Q: how likely do you think you are to survive a post apocalypse with zombies running amok? —- #arcreview #bookreview #booktour #ad #giftedcopy #deadthingsarecloserthantheyappear #tbrbeyondtours #robinwasley

Reposted from @bookmarked.by.becky 📖Book Review📖 Dead Things Are Closer Than They Appear Robin Wasley Genre: YA Fantasy Pub Date: 2/13/24 Thank you partners @tbrbeyondtours @simonteen  for the paperback in exchange for an honest review. Happy pub week to @robinwasley 🎉 Please check out all tour stops on the TBR Beyond Tours website. So much to love in this character-driven story that melds YA Fantasy + Dystopian with Paranormal Elements + Romance + Found Family trope ❤️ Swipe once to see the synopsis and twice to view a quick playlist to put you in the vibe! Check out my highlights below: ✨Characters Pt 1: Siddy Spencer, our MC, views herself as painfully average and almost invisible in a town that doesn’t mirror her appearance. As a Korean American transracial adoptee, Sid struggles with identity, adding a heavy, complicated layer to her self-esteem. ✨Character Pt 2: The ensemble cast of characters who make up the Guardians. As Sid bonds with the Guardians, she quickly understands that her struggles may not be as unique as she once felt. Together, they understand the true meaning of “teamwork makes the dream work” and create a found family/community where each of their skills makes an impact. ✨Character Pt 3: Chad, the cat! I’m a dog person, but gosh, I loved Chad. She has attitude and confidence and knows how to make an entrance! There is a huge highlight at the end 🤐 you gotta read the book! Other highlights: magic, zombies, troubled friendships, empathy as a superpower, and of course, the romance❤️ Q: If magic granted you a superpower, what would it be? The magical abilities are long lost in this town or so the people thought. Until one day, it all collapses - the power, the city and the myths behind the guardians. Our protagonist wants nothing more than to see her brother safe, but the emerging zombies from underground have made one thing very clear, it's no longer safe here. The plot of this book is enthralling with those magical abilities, guardian keys and ZOMBIES! I did have a slow start with the story, though the way the characters kept popping in did keep up with the engagement facet. If you enjoy books by reading them seamlessly without much of an afterthought, this could be your next read. But if you are in a habit of questioning and reasoning those minute turns of events, it might be slightly difficult. I wanted to see an elaborate description of the places and not just the people, the details around how those capabilities worked and not just that they simply did. Overall, I loved the plot and the characters, it would have been memorable if the worldbuilding was also on the same level. I do have to say that the title and the cover choice were both top notch! Thank you @netgalley @robinwasley @dreamscape_media @simonteen for the digital ARC. I enjoyed getting to know Sid and her friends and the whole saving the world while dealing with teenage angst and jealousy. This is a charming story that tumbles into dystopian adventure quickly! Sid Spencer is Korean by birth and adopted by well meaning caucasian parents. That's about the most interesting thing about her in her except for where she lives.. Sid's town is built one of the fault lines that seal magic away from the world. Many years ago, the magic was battled back to keep humans from taking advantage of it and each other. When the fault line is opened by nefarious men, true horror escapes and Sid teams if forced to team up with a group of friends to attempt to save her town and quite possibly the world. The ragtag group has all the teen angst that comes with relationships but it's offset by adventure and truly great dialogue. Best yet, there is a lovely beat up female cat named Chad that tags along. Everyone is well developed and interesting and far from your usual tropes of teen characters. All in all, it was perfect! I would love to read and hear more about their adventures. Narrator Eunice Wong was fabulous and I highly recommend anything read by her. #Eunicewong #deadthingsarecloserthantheyappear #robinwasley

📚Book tour stop📚 I haven’t read a book in the same vein as The Raven Boys but I finally found it! This is a character-driven novel that focuses on family and friendships and finding where you with the backdrop of a horror movie. The thing that sets this book apart is that it feels real and raw and the characters are relatable (a lot of r words haha) and complex. I appreciated Sid’s weaknesses and seeing her grow stronger as the book went on. This was everything I needed and everything I didn’t know I needed in a book. Thank you @tbrbeyondtours for having me on the tour. I like the paranormal, ghoulish and gothic themes that resonated with vampires and some Asian characters in the book. I feel that Sid is me in this fictional world. I always tell people there are 4 BTS references in Dead Things Are Closer Than They Appear, 5 if you count the Acknowledgements… Then I realized I reference them TWICE in my Acknowledgements so that’s 6… AND THEN I REALIZED IT’S 7 IF YOU COUNT MY AUTHOR BIO 😭🫶💜 It’s always gotta be the 7 with them. Dead Things Are Closer Than They Appear by Robin Wasley ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Blurb in comments This YA zombie apocalypse, fantasy read was one that I couldn’t put down! It was fast paced with adventure, twist, turns and humor. The characters and storyline are amazing. Sid the mc is one character you will be rooting for. One day a typical teenager and the next a Guardian trying to save the world. A great read! FIVE STARS! This brought me back to old school dystopian ya greatness!! Thank you to @simonteen and @tbrbeyondtours for my copy of DEAD THINGS ARE CLOSER THAN THEY APPEAR by Robin Wasley out now ★★★★★ With incredible characters (a huge focus on our protagonist, Sid - freaking LOVED her), beautiful nontraditional family representation, a fast growing outbreak of magical apocalyptic danger, and so much heart, Dead Things Are Closer Than They Appear filled my heart to the brim! Sid feels painfully average… among her family members AND her ex friends, the friends who stopped talking to her just days after she went out on a limb wearing her heart on her sleeve, only for the limb to break in the most embarrassing moment of her life. But, Sid lives in a tourist trap town on a fault line where magic simmers just underground, protected by guardians who hold the keys to the seal… and she is in for the greatest adventure of her life when someone kills one of the guardians, releasing the magic and something worse… the undead. Encountering a group of guardians, Sid joins them to find her brother, who has been secretly mixed up in all of this. And she finds something she never expected… herself! This was empowering, this was tender, and this was so funny! Multiple times I found myself racked with silent sobs, only to turn around and laugh out loud in the same page. I will read ANYTHING this author writes!! —Q: Can you describe the cover of your current read in five words without using the title? #DeadThingsAreCloserThanTheyAppear #RobinWasley #SimonTeen #TBRBeyondTours 💀

Didn't expect this to be a zombie book. ✨ Dead Things are Closer Than They Appear by @robinwasley ~ Review ✨ We have a normal girl, Sid, who lives with her normal, overprotective family… in a very abnormal town. ✨ Wellsie is built over fault lines that keep magic within, but that magic escapes when one of the town’s guardians dies. ✨ And all heck breaks loose. ✨ Think zombies, secrets about who the guardians are and who’s evil, and a girl cat named Chad. ✨ Sid teams up with Brian, a mysterious kid who’s suffered tragedy, to find her brother. ✨ This YA horror/romance has so much going for it, and it works for me! Asian rep, a fast paced plot, and solid banter. ✨ There’s a depth here, too, that’s keeping me thinking long after I finished reading. ✨ If you want a spooky read with just enough romance, and one that won’t let you close the book anytime soon— pick this up! ✨ I’ll go back to Wellsie in a heartbeat— and hope to read more from this author asap! ✨ Thank you so much to @tbrbeyondtours and @simonandschuster for including me in this spooky tour! 👻 ✨ Be sure to check out @tbrbeyondtours or https://tbrandbeyondtours.com/ to see the rest of the tour stops! ✨ QOTD: How would you handle a zombie apocalypse? ✨ AOTD: I think I would hide. 🤣

🌿 𝗕𝗢𝗢𝗞 𝗧𝗢𝗨𝗥 + 𝗥𝗘𝗩𝗜𝗘𝗪 🌿 • This is an action-packed story where some parts are very intense and nerve-wrecking as the characters fight to survive the terrifying horde of zombies while searching for a way to defeat the evil guy.

❤️book review❤️ 🌹description: Sid Spencer has always been the most normal girl in her abnormal hometown, a tourist trap built over one of the fault lines that seal magic away from the world. ❤️review: I thought this was a nice fantasy journey that I got to explore with this story especially because I don’t read about zombies too often. I thought Sid was a really fun character to embark on this journey with and I thought the other did a great job. 🌹genre: YA Fantasy ❤️page count: 400 🌹what to expect: Magic, adventure, romance, zombies overall rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 QOTD: Do you think you could survive a zombie attack? #books #bookstagrammer #yabooks #bookblog #bookishphotography #bookwormlife #booklove #DeadThingsAreCloserThanTheyAppear #TBRBeyondTours #RobinWasley

Book Tour Review! If you'd like to follow along with the tour, check out @tbrbeyondtours! Links to the book in my stories!
