It’s a bookish AF post. ✨ Thought I’d share some love for my paperbacks as we can get obsessed with the SE on here, and lord knows, I’m long gone on that train, but for years and years, all I ever had were paperbacks because they were all I could afford and even then they were mostly from charity shops. In my mid-twenties, I always said my dream income would just allow me to go into a bookshop and buy a book full price without fretting over the costs. So, being able to do that now and buy hardbacks, I feel so so fortunate. ✨ I still buy charity shop books and borrow from the library, and will also be a champion of libraries, which is something I want to champion more on here. ✨What was the last paperback book you bought? I had no idea that this sequel existed until this month. I read the first book in this duology years ago and loved it. I've still got the physical copy of my shelves (nibbled to death by house rabbits but still just about readable) and i'm very excited that it's going to have a friend. 📚Oh look some new additions 📚 The Girl King by Mimi Yu. I read the blurb and it's a Royal Court Drama, succession crisis, imperial family struggle. It's looks like a C-Drama esque story in a book but with fantasy elements. Of course I had to get it. On top of that the cover looks great! A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J Maas - I enjoyed a court of Thorns and Roses well enough and friends told me it gets better in the next one. So here it is. I don't like these covers, I think the designs are ugly. But the bright colours appeal to me and they add colour to the shelves, so it's fine. Not allowed back in the bookshop for the foreseeable, my TBR is long enough. 👑 REVIEW 👑 THIS. This book is the Asian fantasy of my dreams! I remember being so excited to read this when I first saw the book recommended on Goodreads. It took a while for this book to reach me, but it was definitely worth the wait. On a smaller scale, this a story of two sisters who are on diverging paths of life, which happen to involve a throne, an empire, and the fate of various people and cultures. On a larger scale, there is an empire, and the people who live under this empire's power, whose lives depend upon the choices of these two sisters. There is magic here, but even its continued existence also hinges on the outcome of a power struggle. This book poses hard questions, and I am here for it. It's been a long time since I actually cared for the characters of a fantasy book, and now I'm invested in Lu, Min, Nok, and all the other characters here. On to the sequel! 🔥 (And with that, I finished reading all the books in my BBW 2021 haul. 🥳) ⭐: 4.5

Book stack Saturday and a reading update! I’m currently about halfway through The Bone Shard Daughter and I’m really enjoying it, but not quite as much as I thought I would unfortunately. This is the first book I’ve ever read that uses both 1st person and 3rd person POV and it’s throwing me off my groove a little lol. Also there are more plots than I thought there would be (like 4 or 5?) so the plot directly involving the bone shard magic isn’t the whole story.
