❓Q What does your routine look like?❓ My morning weekday is fairly similar each day. First things first I drop my daughter off at breakfast club at 7.45 and then hop back home to eat, get tidied up and start writing. I only write for about an hour each morning, so depending on how messy the house is or how hungry I am or if I’m feeling particularly inspired that day, will depend whether I jump straight into writing or whether I sort the dull stuff out first. Once I've done this I get stuck into my business and start with emails and any meetings. I like meetings to take place in the morning otherwise I end up in waiting mode and can’t do anything all day. While watching lapata ladies, one thought that stick with me that how females lost all their friendship after certain age, how the ghar-ghar, or gudiya ki shaadi ke khel ended after a certain age and after that they find no-one to truly rely on. Modern women have the freedom and technology to choose the friendship and continue it, but the past generations has not even a hope to meet their female friends again. City changes, even the states, all the new people come into her life with a new relationship, a relationship that demands something, that takes something from her. That binds her into something but not as friends. And even if we not talk much about it, we all know how females friendship are important for us, how they support each other in tough times, how the gossip sessions once in a while can ease all the problems, how when one women said to other "you look so beautiful" we know they actually meant it, how sometimes only they understand our mental pressure between family and career. But sadly many of them didn't find any of these from the females around them, because that is not something taught to them, all in her life they taught how to be the best wife, best daughter-in-law, best sister-in-law, best in everything but in limit. Limits that sets on everything on how they sit, walk, talk, laugh, dream and even sleep. And while walking and fulfilling everyone's requirements and also be in a limit, one day she completely forgot what she like, how she look, what she want to become, what is her story that she wants to live forever. And sadly there is no one to make her realise these all. Maybe our mother, dadi, Nani, bua, masi, need a female friendship like this. It’s okay to like your old writing. It’s okay to not like your old writing. . Sometimes I read my old writing, and it’s pure cringe. For instance, I once had a character talk aloud to themself so I could explain the worldbuiling. However, that was by my twelve-year-old self, who hadn’t studied anything about the writing craft. I promise you, I understand “show, don’t tell” now. 😂 . But in all seriousness, there are times when I’ll read a story I wrote within the past couple years, and wish I could edit it, polish the writing more—stories that got published! And sometimes, I read an old story, published and unpublished, and like it. I admire a sentence, a character voice, a story element. . But whenever I read my old writing, whether I like it or not, I see growth. Like I said, I can show instead of tell. 😉 My writing is neater. My plots have more depth. I’ve grown as a writer. And that’s why I can look at my old writing and enjoy it, whether it makes me laugh or cringe. . White hair 🫣 Here’s a post I never thought I’d be writing. I used to spot grey strands once in a way, but in the last few years, they’ve really exploded. I blame the stress and unpredictability of the pandemic, but also know that it’s a natural phenomenon that happens with time - slower for some and faster for others. I was so close to using hair color to hide the annoying grey hair. Despite hair stylists, friends and my partner encouraging me to accept it, it was terribly hard to meet the person staring back at me from the mirror. After all, we’ve been conditioned to associate white hair with old age and (falling) self esteem. In my quest to find natural colors, I was surprised to learn about the false claims big brands make in pretending to be natural + the effort involved in using something truly natural like indigo and henna. I was even more surprised to read that 85% of women over 30 color their hair - mostly because of societal and peer pressure, and mostly with harmful chemicals 🤯 Then one night, I had an epiphany: I was trying to find ways to color my hair naturally when nature was already coloring it! I can’t say I’ve conquered this weird dilemma in life, but these days I’m filled with deep admiration for women who choose not to (or no longer to) color their greys. It takes courage and self-acceptance, that’s for sure. Where do you stand on grey / white hair, if it’s even on your radar?
Macht ja nichts! Oder wie seht ihr das? Ich mag die Feiertage während der Woche nicht, weil sie mich aus meinem Rhythmus reißen. Deshalb verbringe ich sie meistens am Schreibtisch - so auch heute. Die Arbeit an Feiertagen gestaltet sich außerdem sehr angenehm, weil es so ruhig ist. Ich schlafe länger und starte erst um 10 Uhr. Zuerst bewundere ich die frischen Blumen, die fast immer auf meinem Schreibtisch stehen. Die Tulpen habe ich am Bauernmarkt am Lendplatz in Graz gekauft. Ein Blick zu diesen eleganten Schönheiten und schon lächle ich. Dann geht's ans Schreiben. In den Pausen schaue ich das Mood-Board mit den Bildern und Büchern vor meinem Schreibtisch an. Manchmal ziehe ich eine Tarot-Karte. Derzeit ist es interessanter Weise oft der Magier. Die Karte steht - sehr vereinfacht gesagt - für die persönliche Zauberkraft, die jede/r von uns in sich trägt und damit eine Welt erschafft und Ziele erreicht. Passt perfekt, Worte wirken Wunder! Beim Arbeiten trinke ich viel - logisch, nur dann kann der Textfluss fließen. Außerdem koche ich an fast jedem Tag selbst, derzeit viel rote Beete. Sie richtet am Teller ein farbliches Massaker an, wirkt aber blutstärkend. In den letzten Jahren habe ich Substanz verloren. Nun braucht es kulinarische Aufbau-Arbeit. In den Pausen schaue ich auch gerne aus dem Fenster, was sich an der Mur so tut. Wie schön die Schatten auf der Straße spielen. Und wie flott der Fluss weiterstrebt - eine gute Erinnerung daran, mit der Arbeit fertig zu werden. ✨WRITERS: FOR MORE TIPS FOLLOW #SHAPEYOURSTORY✨ When writers ask me what a scene is, I define it as one full cycle (of the chain, which I'll explain below) from goal to new goal. The chain is based on goal, motivation, and conflict. It is what shows the reader how the main character moves the plot forward with agency by making decisions, even small ones. This is the chain: GOAL ➡️MOTIVATION ➡️CONFLICT ➡️ACTION ➡️RESULT ➡️REACTION As you can see, each action causes a consequence, and then the character reacts to that consequence, causing the next cycle as the character gains a new goal. Turns out I had good ol’ influenza and wouldn’t you know, I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy. Coming back from overseas, I already felt behind with everything and then getting sick just made me spiral into oblivion about my author career. HEALTHY. I realise obsessing about things out of my control is useless, but when has that ever stopped me?🙃 Anyway, now that I’m on the mend I’m hopeful I’ll get some sense of control back, including making some progress on my draft, creating content and feeling like an actual author. 8️⃣ Word Poems! A Tuesday tradition continues. This week turned out a bit different than previous weeks. I typically write most of the poems Tuesday morning (maybe a few Monday night) and I’ll write 15-20 and pick my 10 favorites. I’m not feeling my best this morning, so I just focused on writing 10 that I was happy with. Another difference this week is a theme started to develop, unintentionally. Love and forever are prevalent, as is the ending of a great love. Because of that, I arranged the posts like a timeline this week, showing the story of this life unfold. I don’t know if this will happen again in future weeks, but I washed to try it. I’m thinking about switching it up next week, to avoid repeating numbers, but I’m still up in the air. If I change it, I will either roll a larger 🎲 or roll two 🎲🎲, each representing a sentence length (0-6 words) for two-line poems. Let me know what you think in the poll!
