Cilka's Journey, by Heather Morris ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (Since this is on the blurb I'm not spoiling anything 😂) this is a heart-breaking story about Cilka, one of the women we meet in The Tattooist of Auschwitz. After being in Auschwitz-Birkenau she is then sentenced to hard labour for the crime of being a Nazi sympathiser. It is a story about the worst and the best of humanity. I listened to this on audiobook and found myself staying up late to see what happened to her and the other women. Obviously, there are some really triggering subjects so please take care (or ask me!) before reading. The book also has some controversy around it because so little is known about Cilka, so I chose to read it as historical fiction.

I have binge watched #thetattooistofauschwitz this weekend. I enjoyed the book and went on to read #cilkasjourney but have never got round to reading #threesisters. This will be my next read, I think! I have so many great books to read and not enough hours in the day! I would definitely recommend the TV series for anyone who fell in love with Lali and Gita, I was fully invested in it, it was so well done. Reviewing these books feels wrong to me! However I do believe these are books that people should read🖤 Both books are a work of fiction based on real events. Both books convey the same message - that we must never forget the horrific things that happened. We must continue to spread awareness of the holocaust and what happened before, during and after that. Something different to the books is the awareness is spreads to what happened after auschwitz. Although many were freed from camps. For several years after many were put into a gulag and the abuse continued. 📚 BOOK REVIEW📚 Cilka's Journey - Heather Morris ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Cilka’s Journey follows the story of Cilka Klein, a woman has recently gained her freedom from Auschwitz-Birkenau. However, despite the suffering she has already been through, this is merely the beginning of Cilka’s tale. Arrested for being a collaborator and sleeping with the enemy (despite her having no say in the matter), she is sent to prison in Siberia, where she is forced to do whatever it takes to survive once again. Just like The Tattooist of Auschwitz, I loved this book. I would say it was more emotional than its prequel and I definitely cried actual tears. Knowing that this is based on a true story makes it all the more harrowing and heart-breaking. Cilka is an inspirational woman and, even after everything she has been through at Auschwitz, she still wants to help her fellow prisoners in any way she can. You can definitely tell how her experiences have hardened her, but she still shows love and care in her own way. A joy to read and I absolutely could not put it down. The combination of the present-day narrative and the flashbacks to Auschwitz and her life before really help us as readers to understand Cilka as a person and how these experiences affect her decision making. Like with its prequel, Cilka’s Journey is a page turner, and I was so invested in Cilka as a character that I needed to know what happened to her. There are also moments of light in this dark setting, as with the prequel, that are so warming to read. 🕰Book Review🕰 I really enjoyed this book. Although there were some things about the book after it came out, I read it as more fiction than non-fiction. The other thing I like about this book, as do others, is that you can read it as a stand-alone too. In 1942, "Cilka" Cecilia Klein is taken to the Auschwitz-Birkenau Concentration Camp. At only sixteen years old, her dreams for her future are robbed from her in a single moment, like all others. Between her arrival and the few years to come, she faces much more than one can imagine. However, she sacrifices things and is then judged for things that were ideally out of her control too. Her story covers all of the brutality, torment, terror, abuse, and hunger of this time. It tugged at my heart and soul in various ways, as so many had no choice but to learn to live within the inhuman conditions they were forced into. This book holds a good pace as it alternates between her time in Siberia and her time in Birkenau. In the end, this book is one of courage, survival, friendship, and love. “Everyone affected by war or captivity reacts differently - people might try to guess how they themselves would act or react in the circumstances. But they don’t really know” Cilka’s Journey (Heather Morris, 2019) 🇳🇿 Review: After reading The Tattooist of Auschwitz and not finding it as good as the hype made it out to be - i naturally contemplated in picking up another follow up book from the same series but the blurb piqued my interest and really compelled me to give in. Fortunately, i enjoyed it and personally found it to be a whole lot better than TTOA, writing wise and also in the sense that i could connect more with the characters and relationships within the story. Cilka, a young Jewish girl was first sent to Auschwitz when she was 16 as part of the Nazi’s anti-Semitism policy and persecution. Unlike other girls or women who were subjected to the harsh conditions of the camp, Cilka was made “privileged” when she caught the attention of a high ranking Nazi commandant there who forcefully took her as his mistress. She had to do what she had to do - to survive including having to sleep unwillingly (read: being raped) with the enemy. With this, she was seen as the betrayer of her own people as her privilege allowed her a better living condition and care. Fast forward after the Nazi had lost the WW2, Cilka found herself in the same situation again when she was sent to be sentenced at another camp in Siberia for having collaborated with the enemy (due to her sleeping with a Nazi). In circumstances where people would do whatever it takes to survive, her charm and beauty seemed both a luck and a curse to her. This book has shaken me to the core - while reading, I kept having to fight the lump in my throat. The torment, the humiliation, as well as the trauma inflicted upon Cilka and the other women affected by the war really devastate me. Hell, even after the war, things did not just end yet for them. These characters will touch your heart, while giving you insight into the strength and endurance that each one of them have. May we never forget. Jaká kniha s tématikou druhé světové války je vaše oblíbená? Vyhledáváte tento žánr? . Sestry pod vycházejícím sluncem . Příběh z druhé světové války, kde se tentokrát děj odehrává v japonském zajateckém táboře v roce 1942. Norah Chambersová utíká spolu se svou sestrou a rodinou ze Singapuru, který obsadili Japonci. Při útěku Japonci sestřelí jejich loď a všichni jsou zajati a převezeni do tábora. Norah oddělí od jejího manžela a zůstane pouze se sestrou. V ženském zajateckém táboře jsou vězněni i spolu s australskými vojenskými sestrami. V dějové lince sledujeme právě i vojenskou sestru Nestu Jamesovou. Příběh ukazuje, jak silné musely ženy být, aby přežily kruté podmínky a týrání od japonských vojáků. . Miluju knihy Heather Morris, nejvíc do kolen mě dostal její román Tatér z Osvětimi. Nejvíc mě na tomto příběhu zaujalo, že tentokrát se neodehrává vůbec v Evropě, ale zaměřuje se na Singapur a ostrovy v Indonésii. Zajímavý příběh Norah a sestry Nesty ukazuje jiný pohled na válku na druhé straně světa. Ženy v zajateckém táboře se ocitnou v pralese za hrozných podmínek, exotických nemocí, je s nimi hrubě zacházeno, dochází jim jídlo, přesto se nevzdávají a myšlenky na jejich blízké je pohání dál. Autorka opět vytvořila zajímavý příběh, sestavený podle skutečného vyprávění, takové knihy mám nejraději. Musím přiznat, že mi nebylo tak úzko, jako když čtu o Osvětimi, tady ženy nebyly ostříhané dohola, sem tam se dostaly i k jídlu, občas se vykoupaly, měly vlastní hlasový orchestr, aby si vylepšily dny. Nechci říkat, že měly lepší podmínky, ale tomuto se některým jedincům v Osvětimi nedostalo, i tak to byl dojemný příběh a na konci mi ukápla slza. Rozhodně doporučuji kvůli nevšednímu prostředí Indonésie, určitě osloví toho, kdo má rád tématiku druhé světové války, ale je přehlcen knihami z Osvětimi. . Kniha vychází 14. 3. . It was a good book and a little suspenseful. Ruth Ware is such a good author and knows how to grab you attention at all the right times! Взять хотя бы тот факт, что автор многократно называл Воркутинский лагерь Сибирью. Да и заключённые в наших лагерях все как один обращаются друг к другу по имени-отчеству. Странно, и неправдоподобно. Тема произведения - страшная, ужасающая, но автор не смог дотронуться до глубины души своим повествованием. ‘Cilka’s Journey’ by Heather Morris This one has been on my list for some time now. I read #tattooistofauschwitz years ago and it has been one of my top recommendations for people who are interested in historical fiction. ‘Cilka’s Journey’ is somewhat similar to ‘The Tattooist of Auschwitz’ and it even references this book a few times. Cilka’s story was heartbreaking and hard to read at times. It’s a very interesting but a very difficult book to read as it discusses very dark subjects. What a story 🥺 Finished in just over 24 hours. I was naive before this, I hadn’t actually heard about the Gulag camps - I’d only heard my other half mention Gulag when playing on the Xbox! It is harrowing that so many didn’t get freedom after Auschwitz (if they survived😖) and were sent to another work camp with horrendous conditions. As I sat reading this in my warm home, safe I couldn’t help but feel incredibly sad that the world let these things happen.
