Chapter 35…. I am beyond ready and excited for this next chapter! I have never felt more grounded and in control of my life than I do being in my 30s. I have surrounded myself with wonderful friends and have been able to strengthen my relationships with my family and have cut out people that no longer serve a purpose in my life. I feel very blessed to have made it to 35. Thank you to this community for allowing me to be myself nerdy and all! I love this little corner of the world that I have built and I can’t wait to see where it goes and who I meet along the way! #favbookfriday + Tonks today 😻 Starting from the top, then swiping over for those not pictured: The Search Party by Hannah Rochelle - longtime friends and their families go glamping in Cornwall. A big storm rolls in and chaos ensues. The Last House Guest by Megan Miranda - a coastal town cold case is reinvestigated, and there are those in town don’t love that. Killers of a Certain Age by Deanna Raybourn - what happens when retired assassins are targeted by their former employer? A lot of fun, that’s what! Thanks to @sammyjohannah for this gem. Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing by Matthew Perry - this was sad read. It was super interesting, but in light of everything, just really sad. Long Chills and Case Dough by Brandon Sanderson. This was a quirky and fun short detective story from BSand. It was totally random and I had a blast reading it. Bonus pics of Tonks being a menace 😻

⭐️⭐️ I loved the setting for this story - a small town that depends on summer tourism, a clear divide between the locals & the visitors, and plenty of secrets & resentments. It’s just that everything else was dull and flat. I didn’t like any of the characters, especially Avery, the narrator. I felt no emotional connection to them - no sympathy, no concern, no hatred - and I ended up not caring what happened to Sadie. At times, it felt like I was missing a link between the characters, or some information about them, and the storytelling left me dizzy. I was still feeling this way when everything was revealed. I thought the conclusion was predictable, both with what happened and why. I chose this book after picking a prompt from my TBR prompt jar - the prompt was “celebrity book club pick”. #TheLastHouseGuest #Thriller #CrimeThriller #Suspense #Mystery #TBRPromptJar #ReadYourShelf #AusKiwiBooksta #NZBookstagram

The Last House Guest by Megan Miranda In Littleport, Maine, there’s two types of people the haves and the have nots. What happens when those two worlds collide in devastating ways. Ways that alter lives forever. This was crazy. I definitely had some moments where I thought the story was going in a whole other direction. The main character, Avery, is strong and resilient. She learned and took what was hers. Definitely a great read, highly recommend. #katiereadseverything #bookstagram #books #thelasthouseguest #meganmiranda #fiction #thriller #summertown #wealthy #poor

#thelasthouseguest grabbed my attention when I saw it. #meganmiranda is always a good choice. Avery became fast friends with the small town most well known family’s daughter Sadie one summer. Summoned to then run the families multiple rentals after losing her family gave Avery something in life until Sadie ends up dead. Assumed she jumped to her death until Avery starts putting some things together. ⭐️⭐️⭐️ It wasn’t my favorite Megan Miranda book but it kept my attention and I read it pretty fast. #thriller #mystery #murder #goodreads #bookstagram #reading #readmorebooks

13_2024 "The Last House Guest" by Megan Miranda #bookreview #fiction #nospoilers A year after the death of wealthy young woman, Sadie Loman, her family return for a memorial ceremony. Her death was ruled a suicide, but her best friend Avery has a hard time believing that. A story that starts with Avery noticing things that don't add up, then coming under suspicion herself such that she's compelled to dig into things, turns into a complex tale of family secrets, power and money. A multi-layered thriller novel set in a Maine beach town, across multiple summers, when the summer people and the year-round residents must co-exist. Beautiful textured front cover too. Did I buy the new mass market edition of this book when I already had a copy for the sole purpose of reading the sneak peak at the first chapter of @meganlmiranda’s next book, Daughter of Mine? Yes. Was it worth it? YES. Even though it was only one chapter, MM’s writing in DoM is already SO rich and captivating that I’m craving the full book EVEN MORE now. Though it will still be a bit of a wait yet, the book releases on my birthday (April 9), and what more can a girl possibly wish for than a new novel by her favorite author as a birthday present?! 🤩

The book of the month of January was #thelasthouseguest by @meganlmiranda. I’m in a bookclub called “thriller obsessed book club” on fable it is run by the lovely whatmichaelareads on TikTok! I gave this book a ⭐️⭐️⭐️.5/5 I really enjoyed this book and I want to read more of this author, she did a good job with the characters and the storyline. The plot is something I didn’t see coming especially the fact that there is two huge plots twist at the end I was surprised. The only downside was the time jump between now and before it was just to much and sometimes unnecessary. Really recommend!! Also If you love thrillers and books with really good plot twist join our bookclub on fable!

📚Book Review📚 Title: The Last House Guest Author: Megan Miranda Rating: 3/5 A year following the alleged suicide of her best friend, a woman is thrust into a battle to clear her own name as fresh evidence emerges. The Lomans, a wealthy family, have long dominated the town of Littleport, Maine, a dynamic unchanged even after the tragic death of their daughter, Sadie, a year prior. The Lomans, in their affluence, embraced Avery, offering her employment and a place to stay. Yet, Sadie’s death shattered everything. Discovering Sadie’s phone hidden at last year’s party venue, Avery investigates, only to become entangled in a web of suspicion, especially as break-ins at the rentals occur and Sadie’s brother, Parker, behaves oddly. As it becomes increasingly apparent that Sadie’s death might not have been a suicide, Avery finds herself a prime suspect amidst the surfacing of the Loman family’s secrets. The story, oscillating between 2017 and 2018, tightens with suspense as Avery edges closer to uncovering the truth. The climax was not very startling and felt a bit flat. #bookreviewsofinstagram #bookreviewsbyparvin #meganmiranda #thelasthouseguest #readersofinstagram

Finished Review: The Last House Guest by Megan Miranda Genre: Thriller/Mystery❓🔪 Format: Audiobook 🎧 Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️ In a small vacation town near the ocean a girl who has spent her summers there for over a decade is found dead. It’s ruled a suicide but her townie best friend doesn’t believe that. About a year later new evidence starts surfacing and things start to unravel. This is a decent little mystery with a lot of small town vibes. The ending was not what I was expecting at all, so that was a good twist/reveal. It wasn’t my most favorite mystery/thriller, not terribly exciting. If you are bored though, and want to pick up a mystery/thriller this is a decent one. Have you read this one? Synopsis: The summer after a wealthy young summer guest dies under suspicious circumstances, her best friend lives under a cloud of grief and suspicion. Littleport, Maine has always felt like two separate towns: an ideal vacation enclave for the wealthy, whose summer homes line the coastline; and a simple harbor community for the year-round residents whose livelihoods rely on service to the visitors. Typically, fierce friendships never develop between a local and a summer girl—but that’s just what happens when visitor Sadie Loman and Littleport resident Avery Greer. Each summer for almost a decade, the girls are inseparable—until Sadie is found dead. While the police rule the death a suicide, Avery can’t help but feel there are those in the community, including a local detective and Sadie’s brother, who blame her. Someone knows more than they’re saying, and Avery is intent on clearing her name, before the facts get twisted against her. The Last House Guest is a smart, twisty read that brilliantly explores the elusive nature of memory and the complexities of female friendships. I liked the twists and turns, some expected, some not. I loved the character development and how the author portrayed a small vacation town well. I also loved the small town secrets! #thelasthouseguest #synopsis #review #audiobookreview #bookreviewer #bookreview #audiobooksta #audiobookstagram #booksta #bookstagrammer

Nadu polažem u godišnji odmor, ako me to ne izvuče, neće ništa... Još sam htjela reći da sam radi čitanja žrtvovala vježbanje i budući da sam pronašla svu izgubljenu težinu, morat ću u svoje dane opet ugurati i trening... Dakle, nemam pojma kako. 🤷🏼‍♀️ Koliko ste knjiga vi pročitali u ovih 15 dana 2024. godine? #malaodknjiga #readingjournal #mygoal #readingtime #znanje #100bookschallenge #ihavenotime #katequinn #dijamantnooko #thediamondeye #meganmiranda #posljednjigost #thelasthouseguest #lynettenoni #krvniizdajnik #thebloodtraitor #bookblogger #bookblogersproblems

In this small coastal town, Avery is a local and her world is turned upside down after her parents both died in a car crash. When she meets Sadie, she finds friendship that numbs the pain. Sadie is from old money and her family owns a vacation house (and many other things) in the town. Avery is accepted into Sadie’s family, which is world of power and manipulation. Top 7 Books of 2023 All 5 stars. Multi genre: literary fiction, magical realism, memoir, thriller, dystopian, paranormal horror & romance. Tomorrow & Tomorrow & Tomorrow Gabrielle Zevin This is a complex story of friends & video creator partners over 30 years, with all the ebbs, flow & drama that relationships endure. Read this in 2 days, while it tore out little pieces of my heart. Divine Rivals Rebecca Ross Yes, there is a magical typewriter. It feels like WWI, but this is a slightly different world. If you’re thinking, oh not ANOTHER brave woman in a war story, with a smattering of romance, think again. It’s more like American Gods meets You’ve got Mail. Action, grittiness of war & family. A bittersweet relationship. Gorgeous writing. Solito Javier Zamora Solito was my favorite IRL book club book of the year. It describes 9 year old Javier’s escape from El Salvador to the U.S. to meet up with his parents. A memoir seen through a child’s eye, it is written with beautiful prose & figurative language. The pacing is exciting & many of his trials are heartbreaking. The Last House Guest Megan Miranda Great pacing. Suspenseful. Littleport, Maine really seemed to be Bar Harbor. A small town is smothering secrets about Sadie’s suicide. MC Avery questions the verdict as the twisty mystery delves into female friendships. I was really engaged, couldn’t put it down & did NOT guess the ending. The Grace Year Kim Liggett Felt like a cross between M. Night Shylamalan’s The Village & Sarah Polley’s Women Talking movies. It explores the hierarchy of how groups interact in a dystopian survival thriller of young women isolated with nothing but red ribbons in the woods. Mongrels Stephen Graham Jones Feeling like an outsider among vicious paranormal types. Very dark humor with a side of gore. A coming of age story. Love & Other Words Christina Lauren Not just a 2nd chance romance/childhood friends trope. Lauren writes an emotional novel with themes of tragedy & loneliness. Lyrically written, I was invested in Macy & Elliot (especially his glow up). And the secret reading closet - ahhhhh - want one! #top2023books #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #favoritebooks

The summer after a wealthy young summer guest dies under suspicious circumstances, her best friend lives under a cloud of grief and suspicion. Littleport, Maine, has always felt like two separate towns: an ideal vacation enclave for the wealthy, whose summer homes line the coastline; and a simple harbor community for the year-round residents whose livelihoods rely on service to the visitors. Typically, fierce friendships never develop between a local and a summer girl—but that’s just what happens with visitor Sadie Loman and Littleport resident Avery Greer. Each summer for almost a decade, the girls are inseparable—until Sadie is found dead. While the police rule the death a suicide, Avery can’t help but feel there are those in the community, including a local detective and Sadie’s brother, Parker, who blame her. Someone knows more than they’re saying, and Avery is intent on clearing her name, before the facts get twisted against her. The Last House Guest is a smart, twisty read that brilliantly explores the elusive nature of memory and the complexities of female friendships. Book review for: “The Girl from Widow Hills” by Megan Miranda ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Well, that twist at the end was very unexpected. Pay very close attention in this book, because a character you never suspected is a very, very, very bad person. I bought this book at the Dollar Tree, and I think it was the best $1.25 I’ve spent there in a long time. Here’s the excerpt from Goodreads: “ Everyone knows the story of “the girl from Widow Hills.” Arden Maynor was just a child when she was swept away while sleepwalking during a terrifying rainstorm and went missing for days. Strangers and friends, neighbors and rescue workers, set up search parties and held vigils, praying for her safe return. Against all odds, she was found, alive, clinging to a storm drain. The girl from Widow Hills was a living miracle. Arden’s mother wrote a book. Fame followed. Fans and fan letters, creeps, and stalkers. And every year, the anniversary. It all became too much. As soon as she was old enough, Arden changed her name and disappeared from the public eye. Now a young woman living hundreds of miles away, Arden goes by Olivia. She’s managed to stay off the radar for the last few years. But with the twentieth anniversary of her rescue approaching, the media will inevitably renew its interest in Arden. Where is she now? Soon Olivia feels like she’s being watched and begins sleepwalking again, like she did long ago, even waking outside her home. Until late one night she jolts awake in her yard. At her feet is the corpse of a man she knows—from her previous life, as Arden Maynor. And now, the girl from Widow Hills is about to become the center of the story, once again, in this propulsive page-turner from suspense master Megan Miranda.” That wraps up book 132 of 2023! #bookstagram #bookishlove #bookishpost #booktography #booknookstagram #mybookfeatures #bookpic #booksbooksandmorebooks #bibliophilelife #ilovebooks #readersofinstagram #bookcommunity #bibliophile #bookrecommendation #bookreview #newbookstagram #newbooks #readreadread #booksandplants #booksandscentsy #december #thegirlfromwidowhills #meganmiranda #thrillerbooks #reesesbookclub #thelasthouseguest

Welcome to Monica’s murder mystery book club. 📚 This month I’m ready a novel titled ‘The Last House Guest’ by bestselling author @meganlmiranda. @reesewitherspoon is quoted on the back cover saying it’s “the ultimate thriller” but I think it’s off to a really slow start. It’s beginning to get more interesting over halfway through so I’m hoping the end will be more exciting and filled with unexpected twists. To be honest, I grabbed this book on my last trip to the States and had about 5 seconds to make a decision at Target before I was dragged out of the store. 😆 Have you read it? Who’s your favorite crime thriller author? Any book recommendations for next month? #crimethriller #thelasthouseguest #meganmiranda #americannovel #englishbook #reading #bookclub #murdermystery #murdermysterybooks

📖 The Last House Guest ✍️ Megan Miranda ⭐️⭐️⭐ 💭Thoughts: It's my first Megan Miranda novel. I'm not really into thrillers but since this is a Reese's Book Club Pick, I was allured to read it. Well, this was an average read for me. Just the right amount of suspense. It started very interesting but remained flat throughout. I like the setting. I felt the cozy yet dangerous ambiance of Littleport, a small town in Maine. Avery is all alone in unraveling the mystery behind Sadie’s death and it's difficult to trust anyone. I was also suspicious of everyone but by the end of this novel, "who done it" was not a satisfying revelation for me. With its light suspense and summer backdrop, it could be a good book to bring for a quick getaway. #thepageshifter #TPSbookreviews #shortbookreview #thelasthouseguest #meganmiranda #suspensethrillerbooks

Happy Thursday —Q: Who is an author you haven’t read but either have a bunch of their books, or you desperately WANT to read? I really NEED to read this author! I have had these three books for a while and I just got the upcoming DAUGHTER OF MINE on NetGalley. Daughter of Mine by @MeganLMiranda is out in April of next year. Synopsis: When Hazel Sharp, daughter of Mirror Lake’s longtime local detective, unexpectedly inherits her childhood home, she’s warily drawn back to the town—and people—she left behind almost a decade earlier. But Hazel’s not the only relic of the past to return: a drought has descended on the region, and as the water level in the lake drops, long-hidden secrets begin to emerge…including evidence that may help finally explain the mystery of her mother’s disappearance. So many books, so little time… am I right? #MeganMiranda #DaughterOfMine #TheLastHouseGuest #SuchAQuietPlace #TheLastToVanish ❤︎

I'm energetic today but going slump by the end of the day as I realise I forgot to check out my attendance (which will cost me my salary deduction!) ✨ Anyway, have you read this book yet? 𝕋𝕙𝕖 𝕃𝕒𝕤𝕥 ℍ𝕠𝕦𝕤𝕖 𝔾𝕦𝕖𝕤𝕥⁣ ⁣ Megan Miranda with another chilling mystery! This book contains two specific tropes that I haven’t read much of but thoroughly enjoyed: misjudged death and a detective suspect. Basically a death ruled as a suicide begins to unravel as potentially something more sinister and the main character, who’s POV we get throughout the book, slowly becomes the number one suspect and must unearth the truth before she takes the blame. ⁣ ⁣ And of course it wouldn’t be a Megan Miranda book without dark and twisty characters with numerous motives, a creepy setting and a twist ending. ⁣ ⁣ 💬Have you read any of Megan Miranda’s books? What are you thoughts? Which is your favourite?⁣ ⁣ 💬What are you reading today?? ⁣

Book Information - Title: The Last House Guest Author: Megan Miranda Pages: 368 Genre: Mystery/Thriller Recap: The town of Littleport, Maine is a tourist destination during the summer, but what about the kids who live there year round? Avery Greer is a product of growing up in Littleport and has had her fair share of tragedies in her short 18 years. That is until she meets Sadie Loman, daughter of one of the biggest property investors in Littleport. Sadie and Avery quickly become inseparable as Avery joins in the Loman lifestyle. That is until Sadie’s death last summer. Was it a suicide or will Avery find out what secrets this little town holds? Review: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ This was a super quick read with a fantastic twist I did not see coming! I loved the story-telling that the author gave. It felt more anecdotal and more like I was peeking into Avery’s mind. I liked the single pov and the dual timelines. It jumped back and forth between last summer and the current summer. Overall, I really liked this book! Recommendation: ✅Yes if… you like quick reads, don’t mind dual timelines and like a good thriller. ❌No if…you do not like thrillers or non-linear timelines. #bookstagram #bookworm #bibliophile #booklover #booknerd #bookaddict #readreadread #readersgonnaread #reading #readingcommunity #bookreview #bookrecap #bookrecommendations #thelasthouseguest #meganmiranda
