Grief, loss, ancestral stories and the ones before us: This is what is in my spirit today, as my family mourns the passing of one of own, and I am here sharing a book that feels like a perfect reflection of this sorrow. Finding Junie Kim by Ellen Oh is an astonishing accomplishment: a novel suitable for middle school readers, that touches on the fraught politics of childhood today, suicidal thoughts and therapy, and deeply dives into the ways connecting with one’s elders can be a salve in such turbulence. Junie, our main character, seeks out the stories of her grandparents, both survivors of a post-WWII Korea, both survivors of colonialism, violence, displacement. Junie hears her grandfather’s story first, as he is more open to this exercise; her grandmother, an elegant and energetic woman, proves to be more guarded, reticent. In the end, this sprawling story takes us through the halls of middle school in the 21st century, through small villages in not-yet-bisected Korea, and manages to tell the tales of a country torn apart in the aftermath and beginning of endless war. This is a superb book, and it took my breath away. It also filled in many gaps that my American education conveniently left out regarding Korea and its people (and the US treatment of this region). 5/5 stars, reading as healing through profound loss. #bookreview

I'm not saying my library is better than your library. I'm definitely not saying that. I'm not going to imply, even, that my library is cooler than your library. However, the library I ride the streetcar to, is located in the old downtown First National Bank. And know what's even cooler? I used to work at FNB - the year before I got married. Some day I'll write about working in the (very prestigious) Word Processing Department. I walked all over the bank, delivering letters from the Vice Presidents of the bank. It's hard to believe such a thing actually happened in the world, transcribed letters. ☺️ Anyway, I know your library is cool. And that mine, is most definitely NOT cooler than your library. ***fingers crossed behind my back #library #centrallibrary #kansascitypubliclibrary #booklove #borrowedbooks #bookworm #bookstagram #hugalibrarian

📚BRIDGERTON📚 I read these series of book like 15 years ago? I was really into lighther reads then in between my Kristin Hannah books, Julia Quinn was a breeze of air. I nearly missed stops in public transport! And this one is my favourite so this season was very anticipated! This copy has been through two house moves and many rereadings, hence why it looks so worn out 😂 and it belongs to my bestie, all Julia's books are hers. She introduce me to them. We watched the first part of the third season over the weekend to avoid visual spoilers 😂 obviously we know what happens but not how it translates on tv and people are very quick doing edits. 🗨️ If you read/watch Bridgerton, which book and season is your fave so far? If ypu don't, do you read regency romnace books? #Bridgerton #RomancingMrBridgerton #BookSeries #JuliaQuinn #RegencyRomanceBooks #PaperbackBooks #BorrowedBooks #BookToTVSeries #BookAdaptation

I finished Shadow and Bone at the weekend - I know I’m late to the party with the Grishaverse, but I’m so excited to keep reading! The world building was effortless and the characters’ relationships so believable that I was heavily invested very quickly and absolutely devoured this!

🄱🄾🄾🄺 🅁🄴🅅🄸🄴🅆 ★★★★½/5 𝗔𝘂𝗱𝗶𝗼 50% 𝗣𝗵𝘆𝘀𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 50% Can we talk about how much I loved this book?! It was really outlandish but also super engaging so I didn't mind. The only reason it's not 5 stars for me is because it dragged a little while reading it but listening to it is phenomenal! I love what they did with the phone calls and audio tapes, making it sound like it would in real life. And I could listen to Catherine talk all day. Lol I absolutely love the twists and turns of this book. It's a little creepy, especially celebrating Krampusnacht! The characters were great! I especially love Harry and her development and motivation throughout the book. It was just SO good! Have you read this one? What did you think?

💀 Poor Things by Alasdair Gray 💀 Good morning, readers! How’s the weekend treating you? We’ve mostly had rainy days here but that means rain lilies and a happy garden! As for Poor Things… I’ve seen a few clips of the movie adaptation but otherwise went into this fully blind and unprepared. It’s an odd read and I don’t want to give too much away since most will see the film but it is set in Scotland in the 1880’s and is a bit of a Frankenstein retelling, except that the the reanimated ‘monster’ is a beautiful young woman with the brain of an infant. I’ll admit that this story made me a bit uncomfortable at times. There’s nothing very spicy or explicit but the idea of a grown woman with a baby brain was a bit unnerving. It’s also written like a classic (despite that it was published in the 1990’s) which might be a turn off to some readers but I really enjoyed how the story was laid out and written. There’s unreliable narration, a nonlinear timeline, and two separate accounts of Bella Baxter’s life but the political satire makes it truly worth the read. 📖Have you read Poor Things or seen the adaptation yet? This cover is so unnerving but fits the story so very well. #bookstagram #booksta #booklove #booklovers #booknerd #bookworm #bookaddict #bookaholic #igreads #igbooks #instaread #bibliophile #bookishcoven #litwits #libraryloans #borrowedbooks #oddreads #gothicreads #classicfiction #adultfiction #alasdairgray #poorthingsbyalasdairgray #poorthingsalasdairgray #lazydaylitread #lazydaylitread2024

Happy Saturday!! This one is out of order, I actually finished another book before this. I will post that one hopefully Tuesday to go along with my book club meet! This book though was wonderful! It had great pacing, intriguing story and fabulous writing! It was an inspiring story and was comforting and cozy to my faith. Loved reading this book and helped put some stuff into perspective. If you love a good modern Christian read, I high recommend this one! ✨️ Current read ✨️ I'm almost done this book and it is so, so good. It follows Werner, a young German genius who helps the Nazis find illegal radio operators, and Marie-Laure, a blind French girl who aids her uncle in making illegal radio broadcasts. Despite a detached third person narration that switches between characters rapidly (and I mean RAPIDLY, chapters are 1-3 pages), I feel so connected to this heartbreaking story and am loving how the time jumps and POVs are woven together. WWII tales get me every time! Something I've been loving lately is running the photography club at my school! It's been so much fun, and I could not resist playing around with the Canons and Lightroom for this pic. Flatlays may be my new favourite 💙 Q: How was your week? Kilt Trip ~ Alexandra Riley “He was the sunset over a lake, mountains scarping the sky, uncharted territory, and endless expanse of wonder.” It takes a talented author to ensure a reader experiences the chill and beauty of Scotland, whilst filling them with the warmth and giddiness that comes with a rom-com. I quite enjoyed this little love story. Kiley gave it depth by adding in the turmoil of disappointments and pain caused by family. And I especially loved the car sickness scene, as I found it endearing and relatable. My only qualm is that the way she skipped over Christmas felt a bit jolting. Overall, I thought it was sweet. Besides, who doesn’t love a Scottish lad? P.S. It seems like every other book I read lately featured a dead mom. 📖 🐾💤 •thursday evening• Don’t mind me just trying to finish another book that I started a month ago… 🙃 Currently reading Punk 57 by Penelope Douglas while Aladdin plays in the background and my pup snoozes. I got hit with a nasty cold last week that lead to a double ear infection and bronchitis. 🙄 It really knocked me on my butt and wiped me out for a few days. However, I’m happy to report that I’ve gotten my energy back and am feeling much better. Now, back to reading before sleep claims me too. 😴 #currentlyreading #punk57 #penelopedouglas #paperbackbooks #borrowedbooks

🎇 BOOK REVIEW 🎇 TITLE: Where the Crawdads Sing AUTHOR: @authordeliaowens SOURCE: Mixed - Physical from @pmhclibrary; audio from @borrowbox GENRE: Literary Fiction/Mystery RATING: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ REVIEW: This has been on my TBR List since for way too long 🙈 I saw this by chance at my library and borrowed it on a whim; and I'm so glad I did. I really enjoyed to dual timeline and the two narratives were cleverly interwoven until joining in the story's present day. I really enjoyed the mix of the different characters and the narrator Cassandra Campbell did an amazing job differentiating the characters and working with the narrative to give them their own personalities and nuances. Highly recommend. 📚 How many books are on your shelves? And how many of them have you read? 𝓢𝓱𝓪𝓷𝓷𝓮𝓷 "Hi! These are my bookshelves. Or well, at least a part of it. I've counted my books this week and I have: ● A total of 138 books ● of which I've read 61 ● and of which I haven't read 77 A couple of my books are still in boxes (we moved in january, but I don't have enough shelves), and I also have a tv cabinet in which I have a couple of books. I was a bit surprised that I've so many unread books on my shelves, since I read approximately 50 books a year. But the half of my read books are audiobooks and I borrow a lot of books from friends. So it does make sense in the end... I've rearranged my books, but I'm doing that almost monthly. I have a system but I can't really explain my system. 2024 Reads: Stay and Fight by Madeline ffitch. 4/5⭐️ Book borrowed from @margottish. ❤️ This was an interesting read. Multiple points of view (which you know I like) - and all of them flawed. It was this great story of community and family and all of it was incredibly messy. Everyone was motivated by laudable goals but falling short in some ways. I also really liked the writing. It was very readable but also felt specific to this book. It’s hard to explain but it just felt so tailored without being obviously tailored. I don’t know. It worked. #bookstagram #novels #family #country #survivalist #community #borrowedbooks

🐇 AUTHORITY by Jeff VanDerMeer 🐇 (2nd in the Southern Reach Trilogy) This was the last book I finished in April so I’m already feeling a bit vague on the lesser details but this is the sequel to Annihilation and has a new narrator (a male known as ‘Control’) who spends most of the book interviewing the Biologist from the first book. Now that I’ve finished this and the last book, Acceptance, I can see that the film adaptation, Annihilation starring Natalie Portman, follows the whole trilogy and not just the first book. I probably should have waited to watch the film until I was done with the entire trilogy! 📚 Book Review 📚 Title: Eragon by Christopher Paolini Genre: Fantasy Pages: 500 Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 Well, when you are only able to read 5 pages before falling asleep in bed, a 500 book drags out. Also, it really was just mediocre for me. At times, I was bored. At times I was into the story, however, it didn’t knock me out of my socks and I don’t think I will continue the series. 📚 Ink In The Blood ✍🏻 Written by Kim Smejkal 🎧 Audiobook - Hoopla Summary: A lush, dark YA fantasy debut that weaves together tattoo magic, faith, and eccentric theater in a world where lies are currency and ink is a weapon, perfect for fans of Leigh Bardugo and Kendare Blake. Celia Sand and her best friend, Anya Burtoni, are inklings for the esteemed religion of Profeta. Using magic, they tattoo followers with beautiful images that represent the Divine’s will and guide the actions of the recipients. It’s considered a noble calling, but ten years into their servitude Celia and Anya know the truth: Profeta is built on lies, the tattooed orders strip away freedom, and the revered temple is actually a brutal, torturous prison. Their opportunity to escape arrives with the Rabble Mob, a traveling theater troupe. Using their inkling abilities for performance instead of propaganda, Celia and Anya are content for the first time . . . until they realize who followed them. The Divine they never believed in is very real, very angry, and determined to use Celia, Anya, and the Rabble Mob’s now-infamous stage to spread her deceitful influence even further. To protect their new family from the wrath of a malicious deity and the zealots who work in her name, Celia and Anya must unmask the biggest lie of all—Profeta itself. #InkInTheBlood #KimSmejkal #audiobook #hoopla #fantasy #ya #lgbt #bookstagram #booklover #bookstagrammer #bookworm #bookdragon #thebooknerdwrites #reading #booknerd #bookaddict #bookish #librarybook #borrowedbooks #bookaddict #bookrecommendation #whatimreading

This series has me in a complete chokehold. Kate Golden continues to weave masterful tales that do not let up! ⁣ ⁣ A Dawn of Onyx was an immediate 5 star read for me. I thought about Arwen and Kane constantly, even when the book was closed. When I finished I continued to find something comparable but absolutely nothing stacked up as well. ⁣ ⁣ A Promise of Peridot finally released and my library hold came in and as soon as I started reading I was enthralled. It has been a long time I lost track of time reading but I looked up and it was 2 am and I had to be a parent the next morning so I had to force myself to close the book. ⁣ ⁣ This book did not disappoint. It did not fall into the normal sophomore slump. I absolutely cannot wait for book 3 because that ending has me 😱😱😱

You Only Call When You’re In Trouble Stephen McCauley ⭐️⭐️⭐️ This dysfunctional family drama follows Tom, an architect specializing in tiny homes, his niece Cecily, an academic tied up in a Title IX investigation, and his sister Dorothy who have been sucking the life out of each other for years. Tom is the put together adult who Cecily relies on more than her wild irresponsible mother to help her out when life gets too hard. This was an easy listen and I enjoyed it but overall it fell a little flat. I found it difficult to connect with the over privileged wealthy characters and their self created problems who felt their lives were falling apart and they were destined for ruin. #librarybooks I am making a conscious effort to use the library again. Having new to me books is better feeling atm than buying books. I get really excited for a new book until it arrives and then once it’s on my shelf the feeling is over. Idk if it’s because my heart isn’t happy with where I moved my library to or just my mental being so low still so if I can find some energy this week I will probably move things around (again)…lesson in life is sometimes you just have to try things and if they don’t work out, that is okay because they can be changed again until it brings you joy ❤️ #currentread #useyourlocallibrary #borrowedbooks #makingmyhouseahome #betteringmymental

📚 BOOK REC 📚 @bookenders recommended this book a while ago and it was a good one! ➡️ Swipe for the blurb! It was a mix of mystery and drama but well executed. There were footnotes and those were appreciated. The characters could have been more develooed but overall it was a good read. It was my first book by this author so I can't compare it to previous work. 🗨️ Do you read books recommended by your friends? #HappinessFalls #AngieKim #ThrillerThursday #HarbackBooks #LibraryBooks #BorrowedBooks #BookRecommendations #BookReader #BookReviewerUK

📚 Book Review 📚 Title: I’m Glad My Mom Died by Jennette McCurdy Genre: Memoir Pages: 320 Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 After watching the show Quiet on Set, I knew I wanted to listen to this memoir. I never watched iCarly, however, had many favorite shows from Nickelodeon. This memoir really opens your eyes to what young children actors have to endure during their careers. #bookstagram #books #bookreview #bookrecommendations #readersofinstagram #reader #readerlife #thrifted #thriftedbooks #librarybook #borrowedbooks #advidreader #booklife #bookaddict

A loan from a lovely friend. Pandora is a slow-burn story set in early Regency London, a tale of Pandora (Dora) Blake, orphaned at age 8 and a ward of her uncle, who has driven the antiques business of her late parents into the ground. But a mysterious delivery has the potential to change Dora’s life, but whether for better or worse it yet to be seen. This is a bit different to my usual read. I’m not naturally drawn to historically set books but enjoying the setting and familiar places around the City of London. . . . #borrowedbooks #tacklemytbr #read #bookstagrammer #bookstagram #books📚 #whatimreading #reading #bookblogger #bookblog #iread #lovereading #booksbooksbooks #bibliophile #tsundoku #bookworm #allthebooks #book #books #booksofinstagram #instareads #readmorebooks #readinggoals #❤️📚

📚 Ring of Solomon ✍🏻 Written by Aden Pokydoros 🎧 Audiobook - Hoopla Summary: This exciting and adventurous start to a middle-grade trilogy follows a queer boy and his family as they try to halt the chaotic effects of a mysterious ring, drawing upon Jewish mythology to navigate magic, mayhem and the search for pride in one’s identity. The little beachside town of San Pancras is not known for anything exciting, but when Zach Darlington buys a mysterious ring at the local flea market, his quiet little hometown is turned topsy-turvy by monsters straight from Jewish folklore and a nefarious secret society focused on upholding an apocalyptic prophecy. Zach discovers that the ring grants him strange powers, and he’s intrigued; maybe he can use the ring’s strengths to halt the slew of anti-Semitic and homophobic bullying he’s experiencing at school. But soon the ring brings unexpected visitors—Ashmedai, King of Demons, in the guise of a preteen boy named Ash, and the local chapter of the Knights of the Apocalypse, a secret society intent on completing a creepy prophecy that will bring three monsters to Earth to start the events of the end of times. Now responsible for the ring and its consequences, will Zach and his friends, with the help of Ash, be able to stop the Apocalypse and save the world? #RingofSolomon #AdenPokydoros #audiobook #Hoopla #ya #fantasy #lgbt #bookstagram #booklover #bookstagrammer #bookworm #bookdragon #thebooknerdwrites #reading #booknerd #bookaddict #bookish #librarybook #borrowedbooks #bookaddict #bookrecommendation #whatimreading

Book Spotlight: The Dragon and the Stone Book 1 of The Dream Keeper Saga By Kathryn Butler 12 year old Lily McKinley is a daydreamer, much like her father had been before her, but not all is sunshine and rainbows. Grieving the recent loss of her father and struggling with being picked on by the school bully, the last thing she wants is to add to the weight her mother is already shouldering. So when Lily arrives home to a dragon sitting on the kitchen counter, she has to get rid of it. Things quickly become way more complicated as Lily finds out in short order that the dragon, Cedric, can talk, gets chased by a thing that should only be in nightmares, and ends up being whisked off to another realm which is literally the stuff of dreams and where returning home is going to take more than wishing. #bookstagram #bookdragon #booklover #bookstagrammer #kathrynbutler #thedreamkeepersaga #thedragonandthestone #juvenilefiction #fantasy #friendship #fiction #christianthemes #bookhighlights #librarybook #borrowedbooks #bookrecommendations #authorsilove #books #bookjournal #setsandseries

Book Review 📖 💍 Title: Pride and Prescience ✍🏻 Author: Carrie Bebris ✨ Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🌶️ Spice: N/A 📖 Read: 291 pages Lately I’ve been trying to read books that have been loaned to me since most of them I’ve had for months and I feel guilty and need to give them back! 😅 This one came from my Mom who has vastly different tastes in books than I do so I went in with low expectations lol I will admit at first I was already judging the book by its cover and the fact it’s a mystery novel. That being said, once I got about 50 pages in I found myself actually enjoying it! Then I realized I was basically just reading Pride and Prejudice fanfic and that explained a lot lol 😂 Anyways, this book is not very deep, the plot is a bit out there, and it’s not written in a very Jane Austen tone…but I did like it for what’s it’s worth! It was a quick, entertaining read 📚 and I’m happy to have my first book of May completed! 👏🏻 . . . . . . #bonsreadsbooks #books #booksbooksbooks #library #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #prideandprejudice #prideandprescience #fanfic #mysterynovel #borrowedbooks

꧁May Hopefuls꧂ The books I hope to read for the month of May 𝑩𝒐𝒐𝒌 𝑳𝒊𝒔𝒕 📖Everyone on this Train is a Suspect by Benjamin Stevenson 📖Meet Me in Another Life by Catriona Silvey 🎧The Love Contract by Steph Vizard 📖Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin 📖Lola in the Mirror by Trent Dalton I will be reading all these books accompanied with the Audiobook, so when I am exercising, doing stuff around the house or working on Etsy shop products I can technically still be reading. I have borrowed The Love Contract in Audio format from the library and I am currently over half way and really enjoying it. Only one book will be coming off my physical TBR list (Meet Me in Another Life). 𝐍𝐞𝐰 𝐋𝐢𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐁𝐨𝐫𝐫𝐨𝐰𝐬 & 𝐔𝐩𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐞 🦋 ⋆⁺₊⋆ ☾ ⋆⁺₊⋆ ☁︎ hi everyone! as per my last reel, i borrowed 3 books from the library to fasten the pace of my reading goal because i feel like i'm lagging behind 😭 i'm first reading The Crucible by Arthur Miller during work breaks and taking it while i'm out because it's flexible and lighter than bringing my hardcover edition of The Picture of Dorian Gray 😩. atp, i'm really in my mood reader era. ~ ❀ booksta update ❀ ~ i've been wanting to do this for the longest time. i separated my posts and reels! i did this because i don't feel like doing reels all the time. sometimes, i feel like i'm not giving out the best authentic and meaningful content if i continue to force myself to make reels. and to be transparent, because of that, there isn't a lot of success in reels as well (for me). i feel more authentic when i create posts like this and sharing my updates because that is what this account is all about— to document and track my reading journey. while reels is an important part of reaching to new audiences, i feel like it became a repetitive routine that no longer satisfies me and intuitively to you all. i hope you all understand! i'm won't stop making reels of course, but i'm just saying that i won't be posting a lot of reels from this day onwards! 🥹🫶🏻 and i will still consistently post every MWF! ps: i also archived and will be archiving some posts to have a smoother look of my profile! just to be fancy 🙈 as always, take care. 🫶🏻🤍 ~ 𝐞𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐞 ❤︎︎ 🦋 #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookstagrammers #bookcommunity #reader #readers #readersofinstagram #readersofig #booklover #librarybooks #library #borrowedbooks

📖Book Review📖 Book: Fourth Wing by @rebeccayarros Popsugar Reading Challenge Prompt (2023): A Book with a Map Goodreads Rating: ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ Violet had been preparing for the Scribe quadrant all her life, but upon her father's death, her mother orders her to join the dragon riders. In an already deadly area, a small and fragile woman like Violet's fate seems destined for death. Picked on by many, especially the son of a rebellion leader that was destroyed by her mother, Violet unexpectedly thrives and bonds with the strongest attachment and is forced closer to her enemy Xaden. This book gave me Harry Potter and Hunger Games vibes that I was there for throughout the book. The fantasy mix in there wasn't too much off-putting for not heavy fantasy readers. However, what was a bit undesirable for me was the romance scenes being a bit too descriptive and drawn out for my taste. That being said, I am looking forward to Iron Flame and continuing the series. QOTD: I hardly ever borrow books from people and rely more on the library and the books I have bought used. Thankfully, a friend owned this as the waitlist at the library was too long to get before my book club met. I first encountered Dr. Rae Wynn-Grant on Alie Ward’s Ologies podcast, and liked her so much I followed her on social media! I was so excited to hear about her co-hosting the new Mutual of Omaha’s Wild Kingdom and couldn’t wait to read her memoir, Wild Life. Wynn-Grant and I are shockingly similar - she lived in Norfolk, VA for a good chunk of her adolescence and I grew up right next door in Virginia Beach. I primarily work in Norfolk now and was heartbroken by how unchanged the city seems from her accounts. While I think there is a lot of value and positive change taking place there, I completely understand her resentment and determination to never return. Hampton Roads as a whole has a lot to grapple with when it comes to systemic racism, and part of me irrationally hopes the depictions in this motivates some sort of change. Wynn’s impressive academic career opens so many doors in the field of wildlife ecology, and in many ways, she is /literally/ living my childhood dreams. Her adventures are incredible, emotional, and shocking, which kept me hooked and I found myself flying through the book. Interwoven throughout her discussions of conservation is a strong commitment to social justice; she sees poachers arrested during a trip in Africa and wonders how the incarceration of more Black men can possibly be a success. (Spoiler??) She rejects an offer from the Biden administration due to USFWS’s role as law enforcement. These conversations are so pertinent to conservation and underscore the importance of Black ecologists. Her ever-evolving career was a much-needed reminder that life and success are not linear. My own environmental career is not where I thought it would be at this point in my 20s, but there is so much change and growth to come. I thoroughly enjoyed this memoir and look forward to seeing how the conservation field continues to evolve and improve with minds like hers at the forefront.

Itty bitty book haul from the library. I have been waiting on Reckless for WEEKS!! I’m loving my current read, but I can’t wait to get through it so I can start a much anticipated read. One of my neighbors found out that I majored in history, so he brought me a book that he guaranteed would hold my interest. I was skeptical going into The Venetian Betrayal—this isn’t my typical read— but as I approach the end, I’ve been thoroughly surprised by how much I’ve enjoyed the adventure/mystery on every page. Let this be a lesson: don’t be afraid to read a book that falls outside of your usual genres, you might find yourself unable to put it down. #currentlyreading #thevenetianbetrayal #stevebarry #thebarrettburrow #lunalovepug #bookstagram #readinginbed #cozysunday #booklover #bookish #bookworm #bookrecommendations #booknerd #borrowedbooks #readmorebooks #readersofinstagram #readersgonnaread #readingtime #pugswhoread #literarypug #readreadread #booksbooksbooks #booksaremylife #justkeepreading #historylover #historynerd

BOOK REVIEW 📕 Sea of Tranquility by Emily St John Mandel (borrowed)⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I seem to be on an Emily St John Mandel roll at the moment, partly because I’ve joined a third Book group (!) and this was the text. Once again St John Mandel dips into the realms of science-fiction and pandemics. This novel is set in different time periods : a future in which the moon is colonised; Canada prior to WW1; New York just before COVID; and a near-future world on the brink of another pandemic. Unbeknownst to the characters in these disparate periods they are connected by a time traveller from the colonised moon who is trying to unravel a mystery: why is there an anomaly in a forest in Western Canada which briefly transports people to the future? This novel was definitely was more complicated than Station Eleven, and I struggled in some places. But it was also beautifully written and, for readers of both Station Eleven and The Glass Hotel, some interesting connections and crossovers. Have you read Sea of Tranquility? #EmilyStJohnMandel

Have I spent the beginning of the year ignoring my own books and borrowing other books I want to read from the library? Yes, yes I have. Here’s a review for one, swipe for synopsis. REVIEW People Person By Candice Carty-Williams ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 After reading (and loving) Queenie a while back I knew to expect a character driven read rather than huge plot points, so imagine my surprise at the twist in the first few pages. Brilliantly unexpected and it was a great lead in to the rest of the more character driven writing. I liked that we’re following the half-siblings journeys to understanding each other and them each learning how to have siblings, without the input of the parent that relates them. Cyril is not the father figure any of them want and yet they still vie for his approval slightly. Interesting read with a lot of strong characters, would recommend. #review #library #librarybook #borrowedbook #borrowedbooks #librariesrock #bookreview #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #readmorebooks #readoftenreaddiversely #readersofinstagram #welshbookstagrammers #welshbookstagram #peopleperson #candicecartywilliams #bookish #bookworm #reviewtime #ineedtoreadmybooks #bookcasewallpaper #characterbasedreads

I know it hurts but try and be a mountain. They've seen everything, but imagine what they'd be if they had allowed it to make them sad. Imagine, if they had allowed it to bring them down. - Karuna Ezara Parekh There were so many places of resonance in this whole book of poetry, and I am mighty impressed by what @karunaezara has achieved with the very limited words which comprise our collective vocabulary. Few of my favourite, short verses on the following slides. I think my most favourite was this - "You and me and all the strawberries know: summer comes then spring must go." 39th of the year.
