📚 BOOK REVIEW 📚 Three Hours by @rosamundluptonauthor ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ ➡️Swipe for synopsis! This took me a little while to get into at first but once the school went on lockdown I was fully engrossed and couldn’t put it down. Rather than numbered chapters, it’s broken into times as the reader slowly finds out what happens within that three hours, before and after the shooter appears. As mentioned above, once the school goes into lockdown that’s when it truly gripped me and was so intense. I felt like I was right there with them in the library and the theatre. The author sets each scene perfectly and the description of the shooters boots clicking on the floor as he patrols the corridor had me on the edge of my seat. I knocked one star off mainly due to the fact that I knew pretty early on who the shooter was and I also worked out the little twist near the end so it wasn’t a shock to me when the police psychiatrist reveals it. I found it very similar to A Spark of Light by Jodi Picoult in the way it explores each of the different characters along with the shooter and how they each found themselves in this situation and the decisions they make. #ThreeHoursNovel is now in paperback. ‘I really enjoyed the varied perspectives of this novel from the kids, teachers, police, and even the parents of the shooters. Beth Alton’s train of thought is brilliant, from assurances that her Jamie could not possibly be responsible to the thought that he’s already dead to her, from the minute he picked up the gun. The investigation and drip feed of new information is very well done and it’s obvious the author has researched well. The flashbacks of the Syrian boys are equally well placed and effective. I found the allusions to the kid’s performance of Macbeth great at first - the idea of using Syria as a backdrop and the witches as balaclava clad terrorists is clever. I must admit to being surprised with this aspect of the ending, which I won’t spoil, but suffice to say it had a very fantastical feel. This was an atmospheric, timely and intelligent book, that asked some of the big questions about how the world is now, especially pertinent in a week of terror attacks in France. It IS thrilling, the definition of a page turner, but besides this it is an examination of human nature and bravery; an insightful tale of the refugee crisis and radicalisation. You know those books that just grab you, draw you in then shake you about for good measure, well this is one of them. I spent the first third of this book having to remind myself that it was just a book & to breathe normally. It is so well written that I had low level anxiety throughout. Three Hours keeps you gripped right to the last page, my husband actually commented "shouldn't that be wrapping up by now, you've got a page to go" as he watched me read the ending. Don't worry though, there are contrasts in the book, at one point I went from laughing out loud to having my gut wrenched within half a page! I found I was literally unable to put this down & have already told friends they have to read it. If you are looking for characters you can truly get behind, twists & turns that raise the hairs on your arms & a book you won't hesitate to recommend then this is for you. Three Hours by Rosamund Lupton This is the story of a school shooting playing out in real time hence the title three hours, and boy does it pull at the heart strings. I absolutely got caught up in this spine tingling good read from Rosamund Lupton. When I first started reading this I did feel the start was a little bit slow and I wasn't sure I was going to love it as much as everyone else but then somewhere along the line I got lost in the narrative that was unfolding and I was hooked, I couldn't put it down. I finished this book in the hairdressers with tears streaming down my face and have recommended it to so many people! If you haven't already got a copy of this I definitely recommend and it would make a great Christmas present! Out on the 29th of Oct! ⠀ ⠀ Review: So, first off, I think the front cover quote from Sunday Times sums up the genre brilliantly: literary thriller. ⠀ ⠀ I dip in and out of the thriller genre quite frequently but rarely it is written in such lovely prose and also explores the nuance of the human experience, particularly in the wake of intense, demanding psychological horror. ⠀ ⠀ The unfolding attack on what is only named Old School and New School encapsulates far more than just school violence - it is a reflection on refugees, sibling dynamics, our innate capacity for both evil and good, manipulation, and more. ⠀ Split between perspectives of police, staff, students, the killer and parents, this story grips you and refuses to let go as your heart pounding matches the increasing pace.⠀ ⠀ In the theatre, without windows and strong doors, the students and staff distract themselves by continuing rehearsal of Macbeth. The weaving of the classic Shakespeare tale with the unfolding "something wicked this ways comes" was perhaps my favourite element. ⠀ ⠀ You'll be hooked till the end and then will quietly sit with the human characters you've come to want to protect. ⠀ ⠀ A wicked escape that lingers after you finish the last page.

"The cowardly, inadequate bastards do so love their special dates." • ❄ During this beautifully written and heart wrenching book the reader follows the events of a school shooting and siege, through the eyes of multiple important characters. From the drama teacher Daphne who persuades her trapped students to practice their performance of Macbeth to distract them from the fact there is someone with a gun wandering around their school, to the 6th former Hannah who strips herself of the clothes from her back to save her head teachers life, to the mother Beth who sits on the outside with no idea what's going on inside the walls of the school or where her son is, and many more. Not only is this terrible event unfolding, but there's a horrific blizard going on, which makes situations understandbaly even worse. I found Three Hours to be so thoroughly researched and well written that it felt to me like a true story. I was gripped and involved in each of the characters, their back stories and relationships from the first page. I was sitting on the edge of my seat for most of it, and devoured it in two days - it was impossible for me to put down. My favourites would have to be Hannah, who of course is as brave as any girl wishes they could be, and Rafi who would do absolutely ANYTHING to to care for his younger brother. Three Hours is a serious eye opener. It makes you think about things and the world in a way you probably never have. It taught me all about friends, community and mental health. The headmaster has been shot and injured, and groups of students and teachers are hiding in different parts of the vast school campus in the woods. It is unclear who the gunman is, why he is targeting the school, and whether he is acting alone. 📚 The narrative unfolds over three incredibly intense hours and is told from multiple perspectives: students, teachers, parents and law enforcement. The time-stamped chapters and the increasingly treacherous weather create such urgency, pace and tension. I had to keep reminding myself to breathe! This is undoubtedly a brilliant thriller, but it’s also a moving study of human nature: the circumstances that lead some people to commit evil acts, and the depths of bravery, love and compassion that others can find in the face of that evil. I thoroughly enjoyed the book, and I was completely caught out by more than one of the plot twists. I’d definitely recommend curling up with this as the nights draw in!
📝 Book Review Three Hours by Rosamund Lupton Three hours is a psychological suspense novel set in Somerset, UK. In the middle of a blizzard a school is under attack by an unnamed gunman and the children and teachers have barricaded themselves into classrooms. The reader follows the teachers, children and a police psychiatrist over three hours as they try to survive and figure a way out. After the first page, which really packs a punch, the book started off slow. It was being set up until about half way through but, when you reached the halfway mark, it really picked up and became the page turner I thought it would be. I enjoyed the likeable characters but they did lack a bit of complexity. They’re characters you would find in a Young Adult novel, they were ideal and reliable and they did what you expected them to do. However, the book is written from various perspectives so as the book goes on you become invested in the characters’ fates. A few of the twists really packed a punch! Being a fan of this genre I thought I knew what was coming but I didn’t expect such clever and intricately planned surprises. There were snippets of really elegant writing throughout the book. It’s a really interesting premise for a book and overall I enjoyed it. You might like it if you enjoyed the snappy pace of The Guest List. 4 stars Thank you @vikingbooksuk for the gifted copy. What a wonderful package to come home to! #3Hours Rosamund Lupton #BookReview 5 Stars from me Oh my god – this book, this book, this book! #ThreeHoursNovel by Rosamund Lupton is absolutely breathtaking. I really can’t recommend this book enough. Every page is powerful and beautifully crafted and I read most of the story with my breath held and my heart in my mouth. The emotions within the book are captured perfectly and I was taken through the whole gambit from joy to fear to heartbreak and back again. My heart broke for the poor mum who was waiting for news of her son, her emotions were tangible, palpable and I lived them with her. The emotive feelings from this stayed with me for days after I had finished the book. The breaking of the story via Twitter and YouTube was cleverly delivered and again utterly believable and compelling. Without wishing to give the story away or drop any spoilers, the brain washing and manipulation was terrifying and heart breaking again in equal measure. However, among the horror and awfulness of the hatred and intolerance a bright light of love and warm shone out. The spirit and strength of the school staff, the resilience and protectiveness of the students, the faith in each other was beautiful. I had high hopes owing to the sheer brilliance of Sister and can definitively confirm that I was not disappointed. Three Hours is a must read of 2020 and I am truly honoured to be kicking off the blog tour for Penguin Books.

Is there a book that has stolen your attention this weekend? I haven’t been able to put Three Hours down and am determined to finish it before the weekend is out. With about 80 pages left I’m racing towards the end, although I’m not sure it’s going to be a happy ending. I was thoroughly influenced to read this book by @mackie_bella who recommended it a few months ago. It’s intense and scary (not in a horror way but in a real life atrocity kind of way) and oh so compelling. I’ll let you know my final thoughts when I finish but it comes with a massive content warning as the basic premise is that a school goes into lockdown with a suspected gunman on the property. And you guessed it, the whole thing takes place over a period of three hours. I’ve never read anything else by @rosamundluptonauthor but this has made me want to devour everything she has ever written. Hope you’ve had equally good reading weekends! REVIEW 💫 Three Hours - Rosamund Lupton ❄️🌳 thank you to @bookbeforeuleap for lending me her copy 🥰 I really loved this book. The plot is fantastic and it is really well written. I was engaged from the first page, especially as this book jumps straight into the story. I felt for nearly all the characters and was so eager to find out how things panned out for them - I wish I’d have had a spare three hours to devour it all at once. The only negative factor for me with this book is that it felt like it should be more fast paced. The premise of the book was so intense but actually reading it I didn’t experience the intense, must read quickly thing that I was expecting to - especially given the nature of the plot. I did develop that intense feeling in the last 30 odd pages but I think the plot warrants more. I thought there was going to be a ‘bigger’ ending but maybe that’s because of the hype surrounding the book? I normally don’t read psychological thrillers and I am avoiding topics such as children and violence in general but a few weeks ago I needed a good and engaging read and I came across Three Hours by Rosamund Lupton📖📚👍🏻 . The story is set in rural Somerset school under siege by masked gunmen. There is a blizzard outside and the headmaster has been shot in the head. The older students drag him into the library where they use books for barricading the door. They try to help wounded headmaster while they keep hearing the gunman pacing in the hallway. In the New School’s theatre, the drama teacher keeps rehearsal for Macbeth to distract students and I found linking the play to the plot very clever and masterly. Police and paramedics are on the way but heavy snow hinders operations But this book is much more and spectrum of characters is outstanding and very real. From teachers dedication to protect children to students and they love, courage and compassion. This is a profoundly moving story, it made me hold my breath a couple of times and my heart was broken reading about Rafi and Basi and kind- hearted headmaster📖💔📖 . Three Hours is more than intense read, it is an unforgettable and compelling book and surely will hold your attention in these days👌🏻📖 . . . . .

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 - #ThreeHours by Rosamund Lupton. If you're going to read one book this year then PLEASE let it be this one. I can't even put it into words how much I enjoyed it. My first ever 5 star review. Set over Three Hours (obv), it's the most tense and chilling book I've read, I was literally on the edge of my seat for the last 50 pages and actually forgot to breathe at some points 😂. I'm jumping on the bandwagon and not getting off! I've seen nothing but 5⭐ reviews for this book and I can see why. I had already requested this from @netgalley and then @cen_sational_reads recommended it as part of my #12recs12friends so it was a no brainer. Three Hours tells the story of a liberal English high school under threat from gunmen one ordinary morning. When the kids go to school that day they don't imagine they will be building a barricade from books in the library, or making pottery tiles to protect the windows. They don't think they will be taking their clothes off to stem the blood from their headmasters gunshot wounds. But they do all this and more in this evocative novel which showcases the strength of the human spirit. In extraordinary circumstances we never know how we would react, who would be the hero? I loved all the different characters and all the different reactions to the terrible actions that are going on around them. You really feel the will to survive and protect. Especially the teachers towards their pupils. I loved the characters of Rafi, Basi, Hannah and Neil. They have no idea why they are under threat or who is doing this to them. But as time passes they get information from the police and social media. It is soon a race against time before anything worse happens. I thought the use of social media was really clever and makes you think about the messages that are put out their from the media and certain individuals. I'm all for free speech, but there is a difference between that and hate speech/hate crimes. I think this is very much a book for the moment. "And this is what evil does, Neil thinks. January is always one of those months that just drags on, for me anyway 😅 But one thing that didn't drag was my reading! I read so many fantastic books and also managed to read 8 books which is the most I've ever read in a month😊 My favourite read however hands down was Three Hours by @rosamundluptonauthor! If you check my review you'll know why I loved it so much. It was intense, heartwarming and had me on the edge of my seat from start to finish 🙌🏽. I think it's definitely a book everyone should read ✊🏽. Least favourite sadly was Tsukuru Tazaki and His Years of Pilgrimage by Haruki Murakami. Do you ever pick up a book in the shop, to then put it down, to then spend the rest of the following week wishing you'd bought it in the first place? Well this was that book, I'd spent the rest of the week thinking about it and wishing I'd bought it 😂🤦🏻♀️ And here it is, signed even as well. I can't wait to get into this. There is a reasoning to my madness though, as being a mother with a child in secondary school, the storyline of this book just absolutely terrifies me. Hence my reasoning for putting it back first time round.
