I read/listen to this too fast. I'm just used to overpowered ML. The story is good and I love Laia's character development it's just on the 3rd book, I just feel that Helene suddenly became the lead. I start to like her and anticipate her story. My heart breaks when Livia died. I’ve loved every book in this series but there is something about this one that has made it my favourite so far. I’ve said it before, but damn does Sabaa know how to torment her characters and readers. This is the part of a series when the MC’s have little hope and question if they’ll ever beat the evil forces ahead of them. While this may not sound enjoyable to most sane people - I care so much about these characters that I NEED to read it. I could not put it down. I love Laia as an FMC but I found myself wanting to get back to Elias and Helene’s POV’s, both of their evolutions has been painful and beautiful and I absolutely cannot wait to see how it all ends for them. Ciara and I are waiting to read the final book together so we can have the emotional support required 😅 Long story short - read this damn series NOW. Thank me later. Bokrecension – Reaper at the Gates Den tredje boken i serien är den som jag har haft svårast att komma in i hittills. Men jag tror att att det har mycket att göra med att jag fick byta språk på boken eftersom dom inte längre fanns på svenska. Att läsa böcker på en engelska är i sig inte ett problem. Det som jag tycker blir svårt är när man byter språk och uppläsare. Framför allt på Fantasy böcker där många ord och platser är påhittade så blir det svårt när dom plötsligt har helt andra namn. I den här filmen är det lite kris med Elias som är mer och mer fast i skogen och mot slutet av boken nog helt har försvunnit. Även om jag fortfarande på något sätt hoppas att det ska gå att rädda honom. Jag håller ändå hoppet uppe för hon och Laia även om det är väldigt svårt att se nu hur det ska gå till. Jag gillar dock tanken på att Helen och Laia ska jobba ihop, det har man ju väntat på sedan första boken. Jag tycker också att det känns bra att Helen äntligen verkar ha kommit över Elias. Överlag känns det mesta ganska hopplöst just nu efter att Elias mamma lyckats ta över staden och nu makten. Men jag hoppas att dom kan hitta hans morfar och be om hjälp för med en bok kvar känns det som det är dags att saker och ting vänder snart. L'obiettivo centrale di questo libro è trovare l'ultimo pezzo della Stella, arma che ha imprigionato i jinn per millenni. Dopo la profezia di Shaeva, Elias è costretto a restare nella Foresta per occuparsi delle anime dei defunti, mentre Laia si dirige a Adisa alla ricerca dell'Apicoltore. L'Averla Sanguinaria prima sarà impegnata a Navium, poi dovrà occuparsi della sorella Livia, incinta di Marcus. I protagonisti si ricongiungono sul finale durante l'assedio di Antium. La parte centrale del libro poteva essere raccontata in modo più rapido, dato che in realtà non succede nulla di fondamentale ai fini della trama generale. I punti salienti del libro sono: la storia dei jinn, la verità sulla madre di Laia e i momenti drammatici sul finale. Tra le scene più difficili da leggere metterei sicuramente quella che riguarda la maschera di Helene e la fuga da Antium di Laia e Cuoca. Ci sarà un breve spiraglio di gioia tra Helene e Harper, ma in generale il tono di tutto il racconto è quasi sempre cupo, teso e drammatico. Altri punti interessanti sono che la storia del Signore della Notte ci porta a empatizzare con lui pur essendo il "cattivo", finalmente capiamo chi sono gli Auguri, mentre la Comandante si conferma come il personaggio più oscuro della saga e con il passato meno chiaro. ❓️Considerazioni sul terzo volume? [[• Ｂｏｏｋ Ｒｅｖｉｅｗ •]] Book 3 in the bit Roman, bit middle eastern, kinda Celtic Martial Empire as the dark forces, mythical and human, continue their path to war. The plot remains relentless. I’m out of breathe thinking about it 😅 it’s not a rollercoaster, more like being in a rally car racing around the Finnish forest… you kinda know the route it’s taking, but did not expect the hairpin bends to come so rapidly and continuously! As such it remains super fun. The world is still dark, in a YA way, and doesn’t shy away from realities of war, and short term vs long term humane actions. Character depth and world building logic is still lacking though, and that’s really apparent now we are in book 3 of 4. I’m still not a fan of Laia, I think her arc is the least logical. Elias seems to have stalled a bit in terms of depth, given the big changes. But I am here for Helene and every secondary character. Hope the final book delivers for them all, not descending into a Laia/Elias cliche HEA…
One of the best things about novels is envisioning what the characters look like. Here’s my depiction of a character from one of my favorite novels! Musa, aka Beekeeper, is a mysterious man that is known to be cloaked in lies and shadow. A man that’s always “watching” and always “listening”. Give him a few days and whatever information he needs is already in his possession. Also possesses a strange magic that feels like hundreds of invisible hands tugging at you. Seems like that man that won’t go down without damage. If you enjoy fantasy fiction that ain’t too stretched from the real world, I recommend giving this novel a try! 4.5 stars. The series gets better with each book. The world is deeper. The characters are more developed. Their relationships were deepened and the reader is forced to feel both hatred and love for certain characters. I loved the siege scenes, and really enjoy where the story is going, although I honestly do not know how this one will end. It can’t end well, but so far, terrible turns seem to be a running theme in this story. Fantasy is one of my favourite genres and you’d think I would have read a lot, which is not the case. Somehow I’m very particular about what I read and quite picky when it comes to fantasy. So I read very cautiously. I finally picked Sabaa Tahir’s An Ember in the Ashes series from my favourite library @shefflibraries and have worked my way through three books back to back! I love the story line, characters, plot twists (which are subtle but pack a punch). These books are not complicated and I think that’s what I love about them, the story keeps you hooked and you want to know what happens next. Whereas the characters are quite interesting and I’ve enjoyed their respective journeys so far. Can’t wait to finish the last book this month! Have you read the series? What are your thoughts?

Smrť za bránami Tretia kniha v poradí je príprava na veľké finále. Je v nej množstvo akcie, mágia dostala viac priestoru, vysvetľujú sa niektoré veci z minulosti a vykresľujú sa charaktery postáv a ich motivácie. Hlavný hrdinovia sú opäť sužovaný rôznymi útrapami a je len na nich ako sa popasujú zo svojím neľahkým osudom. Elias stále zvádza boj s vlastným srdcom, túžbou po obyčajnom živote a povinnosťou. Spoznáva miesto čakania a konečne začína chápať jeho podstatu a dôležitosť. Uvedomil si, že ak sa nevzdá určitých vecí nebude môcť plnohodnotne plniť svoje poslanie strážcu duší. Jeho osud je dosť smutný pretože dostáva od života presný opak toho po čom túžil. Hellena si v tomto diele prešla rôznymi útrapami, prišla takmer o všetko na čom jej záležalo a padla na dno, ale hra ešte nekončí a ona vstáva ako fénix z popola. Táto postava sa mi páčila asi najviac, jej charakter je veľmi dobre vybudovaný a dej okolo nej sa mi páčil. Taktiež postava Avitasa Harpera je skvelá. Jeho vernosť a láska, ktorú k nej cíti je vykreslená jemne a nie je to nejak presladené ani rušivé. Laia, no s ňou mám problém od začiatku série. Tá bola proste na facku. Dúfam, že po tom všetkom čo už prežila nastane konečne doba kedy dospeje a zistí, že zem sa netočí iba okolo nej a začne sa správať ako ozajstný vodca. Záver knihy bol napínavý. Obliehanie mesta, nástup Eliasa na scénu a záverečné zistenie, kto vlastne auguri sú a čo spôsobili bol zaujímavý. Temnonoš sa taktiež nejaví ako klasický záporák, mám taký pocit, že tam je ešte možno malinká šanca, že sa môže napraviť. Možno sa mýlim, to ukáže posledný diel. Teším sa na finále 😊. A Reaper at The Gates by Sabaa Tahir defies middle book syndrome and packs just as big of a punch for our main characters as it’s two proceeding novels. If you don’t know by now, this series has quickly become one of my all time favorites. Between its incredible character development, interesting setting, and complex plot, there isn’t really anything I can spot that Tahir skips out on, save for maybe a little compassion. I love how this story doesn’t hold back, and I’m warning you now: If you don’t have your copy of A Sky Beyond The Storm, you better order it now. There’s no way you’re going to want to finish this book without the fourth one to dive into immediately. I can’t recommend this book highly enough. It’s an absolute must-read. 9/10 stars

Has reading ever been stressful for you? It has taken me a while to finish this book or any book really. I had so many books from the library that I felt stressed to finish. It made me feel anxious while reading when I read to feel the opposite. It should be fun! So, I returned most of the books and decided to take it easy so I could enjoy reading again. I’m a little excited to put those library books away because now I can pick up some books that fit the season. Anyway, A Reaper at the Gates was a great book! 5 stars! I am loving this series.
