Happy #witchywednesday 💚 I devoured Morgan Is My Name in two days last summer, and it was my favourite book of 2023. This stunning debut by Sophie Keetch follows Morgan and not Arthur as the protagonist in this excellent Arthurian retelling. The second book, Le Fay, is out in July, and I'm so very excited 😊. July is a great month for books as The Black Bird Oracle by Deborah Harkness is coming out. Diana Bishop and Morgan Le Fay in the same month. I have no words for how happy that makes me! Do you have any favourite fictional witches? #witchvibes #witchywednesday🔮 #morganismyname #sophiekeetch #arthurianlegend #arthurianretelling

“Morgan Is My Name” 🏰 Who is this creature born of the foaming waves and furious storms that batter the Cornish shores? A witch, a fairy, a saint, a sorceress, a mermaid, a mere mortal? Sometimes there are not enough words to describe what a woman is. And that is the case of Morgan, the famous half-sister of Arthur Pendragon, King of Camelot. 🌊 Throughout the Arthurian cycle, the character of Morgan le Fay has been portrayed mainly by men, as a machiavellian witch, a seductive femme fatale, corrupting with her black magic the chivalric purity of Arthur’s court... or perhaps she is more complex than that, a woman who deserves to tell her own story. 🗣️ And that is precisely what Sophie Keetch does in her wonderful novel, the first of a trilogy that covers the fascinating story of the amazing Morgan, a woman who will fight with all her wit to take the reins of her own destiny, defying the iron will of those who will try to subdue her. 💪🏻 Keetch transports us with her prose to the mythical land of medieval Britain with its majestic castles, lush forests and convents full of wisdom, sacred and profane. Morgan grows with an infinite thirst for knowledge and discovers the powers of a healer. Her mind, erudite and sharp like a diamond, is a danger to many. 🕯️ The Welsh writer manages to paint a convincing picture of a legendary and powerful woman of ambivalent morality with different nuances, delving into her roots, her childhood in the stormy Tintagel, her love affairs, her friendships and her bitter enemies.⚔️ If you want to get hooked on a story of adventure, betrayals, conspiracies and dark magic, if you want to know the real Morgan, “Sea-Born”, this book is for you. 🪄 . . . . . . . #morganlefay #camelot #arthurianlegend #sophiekeetch #bookoftheday #bookworm #readmorewomen #feministliterature #womenwriters #retellings #bookreview #bookstagram #whattoread #novels #feminism

📚 Two For Tuesday: Sophie Keetch Good morning everyone and happy Tuesday. I hope you had a good bank holiday. Today on Two For Tuesday I'm featuring two books by Sophie Keetch. 💜 Morgan Is My Name 💟Le Fay I've not actually read anything by this author before but I keep hearing great things so I've been eager to read them. As luck would have it I received a proof of Le Fay through the post a few days before a copy of Morgan Is My Name appeared on the damages shelf at work. I'm very excited to read them soon. Huge thanks to @oneworldpublications for sending me a copy of Le Fay, it's really appreciated! Le Fay is published on the 18th July 2024. Find out more about the book below ⬇️ ........................................................................................ ‘They should fear me, the power I possessed, and the bright, ravenous rage that now fuelled my every breath… Even I did not know what I was capable of.’ Lady Morgan surveys her life at Camelot: she is safe, valued for her intelligence, and has the love and respect of her brother King Arthur, despite a growing conflict with Queen Guinevere. It’s not enough. For, between the strict rules of court, a vengeful husband determined to snatch their son away, and a jealous rival in sorcerer Merlin, Morgan desires freedom. And when a face from her past arrives, igniting old memories and new desires, the future she is planning becomes fraught with danger. Morgan must break the shackles of expectation to seek true happiness. In doing so, she discovers dark new powers that promise control of her life is within reach. But it’s at the risk of destroying everything… #twofortuesday #morganismyname #lefay #sophiekeetch #historicalfiction #newbooks #bookpic #bookpost #bookblogger #bookinstagram #bookinstagrammer #bookseller #ilovebooks #ilovereading #readingisfun #tbr

📖 morgan is my name by sophie keetch 💫 an arthurian legend retelling with morgan le fey as a main character. the first book in a trilogy, this follow morgan through childhood and early adulthood as she finds her place in a man's world and masters the magic running through her veins ✒️ i gave this book 4 stars! the writing was really beautiful and lyrical. i enjoy many greek myth retellings and this felt very similar to books like Circe or Clytemnestra as a feminist historical fantasy. with Greek retellings, I have a pretty big knowledge on greco-roman myths so i usually have at least a vague idea of what's going to happen, but with this i was going in blind and that made the book very fun and different experience for me. i would definitely love to branch into myths and folklore i know less about! I first found this on the audible plus catalogue so if you already have an audible subscription, check it out if it interests you! (though I don't like the audible cover art very much haha)

Meh vs More! . Just finished two books which are both the start of a series and there’s probably only one I’ll continue with. Two words: YAS QUEEN (of Gore). What a fresh take on an old story. . I listened to Half-blood on a whim because free on audible and I’m not sure if it’s the voice which put me off or the story. It’s no Percy Jackson (though in fairness it’s not trying to be). . 📚 Currently reading / update 📚 Ah I disappeared yet again 😭 works been so busy since being home from holiday, and this is my first evening to chill this week so decided to have a bath and do some reading! Pre holiday I was reading Masters of Death by Olivia Blake, and I wasn't fully sold on it. I've had no desire to pick it back up, so I think it's a DNF for me. I was thrilled to come home to Le Fay* lying in wait for me so decided that this will be my next read, I can't wait to see what Morgana does next! *AD- gifted by tagged publisher Like I say things have been a little busy round here. I think I've mentioned here before that we've started dogsitting. It's a compromise for now on getting our own dog, and a good way to get to try some different breeds. We had a spaniel over for a trial night last weekend and it went really well so he's got a few more weekends booked in with us later this year. Today a poodle arrived for the week, he is so soft! The hardest thing is definitely giving them back 😅 Anyway I actually have free time this weekend so I will endeavour to post some reviews, actually engage with posts, get some reading done and chill 🙌🏼 I hope everyone has been doing well 💕 📚 What are you reading this weekend?

“True power comes from freedom, and the ability to survive what befalls us.” I loved this book and I’m so excited that a sequel is coming this summer! I grew up on The Mists of Avalon, which is my foundational Arthurian legend and one I’ve come back to countless times. This has that same rich, magical world and passionate, driven characters. It’s a much shorter book, since it focuses so closely on Morgan, but I hope we get many more legends from this author. Morgan has always been my favorite character and she is irresistible here. Her goals change throughout the book as she grows- her education, healing, building a library, helping women - and she stays steadfast in her drive and ambition. The various men that show up and try to control her choices or derail her path are mere distractions. She cannot be swayed or diminished. I also loved how supportive Gorlois was in helping her pursue her hobbies and education, even if they were unusual for a girl. My Mists of Avalon sense of him is extremely negative and he is often barely on the page in other retellings, so this was a refreshing and different take on his character.

#morganismyname #sophiekeetch #morganlefay #lafeemorgane #quotes #citations #booksta #bookstagram #bookstagramfrance #livrestagram #instabook #instalecture #instalivre

“This sea brought you forth to life - I can hear it roaring in your veins. It brings you strength, is felt in the tidal shift of your moods.” REVIEW: Morgan is My Name by Sophie Keetch The story begins along the rugged Cornish coastline at Tintagel castle. Uther Pendragon deceives and rapes young Morgan’s mother Igraine, and so Arthur is conceived. But the birth is concealed, and the baby sent away. Unknown to his mother and half sisters, Merlin has prophesied that this child will one day become High King of Britain. But this story is not about Arthur. Though many of the characters and events remain true to the legend, particular care is taken to tell the story of Morgan, Igraine as well as her other daughters. As they find themselves at the mercy of the vicious King Uther, Morgan is the only one who puts up a fight against his will. There’s a romance that I thought wo dominate the story but it’s only present in the first half (a good thing in my opinion). After that life becomes increasingly difficult for Morgan when she is married. Trying to practice her craft as a healer despite being thwarted by her authoritarian husband, she quickly learns that it takes a special kind of grit to survive in a world made for men. Along the way she forms powerful friendships, becomes a mother and learns how to use her wisdom to protect herself and those she loves. This is an immersive and atmospheric read- it evokes the medieval environs, the power of the natural world and magic rooted in nature. At first I wasn’t sure about this very human depiction of Morgan- she’s so awe-inspiring as the classical sorceress figure that I thought to humanise her too much might take away some of that magic, but it doesn’t. The book centres around complex sisterhood, a mother-daughter relationship, female friendship, self-discovery and feminine power and this is what makes it so compelling. I cannot wait for the second instalment of this series! #bookstagramsouthafrica #readingjournal #vscobooks #bookstagramcommunity #bookstagramfeatures #recommendedbooks #sabookstagrammers #readingcommunity #ashleighjadereads #arthurianlegend #morganlefay #morganismyname #sophiekeetch

Really enjoyed this one. I've got a soft spot for an Arthurian retelling and it was good to read one that focused on Morgan and her past. It was a lot darker than my last foray into this myth (Merlin on TV...that Merlin is a lot nicer than this one) but I loved seeing Morgan grow into her strength and power, recovering the wildness and determination she had in her youth before the world tried to take it from her. I'm looking forward to the next book in this trilogy.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ / 5 “𝘐𝘵 𝘸𝘢𝘴 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘦𝘯𝘥 𝘰𝘧 𝘮𝘦, 𝘣𝘶𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘣𝘦𝘨𝘪𝘯𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨.” Morgan Is My Name is a retelling of Morgan le Fay, the enchantress from the King Arthur legend. This takes place before his reign, as she goes through the trials and tribulations of growing up, first love, and the obligations that come with being royalty. If you’re a fan of Madeline Miller and Circe, I feel like you would love this! The writing was like poetry, and it had with some of the most beautiful quotes and prose I’ve come across in a long time. ☁️ Morgan’s story is often told from a villainess point of view, so I loved how @sophiekeetchauthor humanized her origin with such a skilled hand. You could tell Morgan just was a good person in tough circumstances, and I couldn’t help but root for her the entire time. As my sister was also one of the one’s who edited this, I knew I had to give it a try and I seriously believe that this book deserves so much more hype! Have you read this yet? Or is it on your TBR? 📖

First picture is what I read this month: ⚡The Shadow of the Gods - John Gwynne (this is not Celtic mythology inspired but was started in Feb) 🧌 The Celtic Myths - Miranda Aldhouse-Green 🧝‍♂️ The Two Towers - J.R.R. Tolkien 🍀 The Children of Gods and Fighting Men - Shauna Lawless (5⭐ read - can not recommend this enough!!!) 🧙 Morgan Is My Name - Sophie Keetch 🎧 I also listened to Celtic Tales Second picture is the books I aimed to read, but didn't get round to: Mythology of the British Isles: Geoffrey Ashe Y Mabinogi Under Milk Wood - Dylan Thomas Let me know if there are any books you'd like to know more about and tell me how your March reading went ☺️

“Morgan is my name, and its origin true at least - “sea-born” by way of the Welsh tongue.“ 🐉 Staying on theme with my next read: Morgan is my Name by Sophie Keetch This is a feminist retelling of the notorious sorceress, Morgan le Fay. Enchantress, villainess, healer- she has been cloaked in many identities throughout time. Arthur’s half-sister, she is well known for being his enemy, although the story is not quite as simple as that. But who was she in her own right? What becomes of a woman in a world written for men? Will she be subject to destiny or determine her own fate? Have you read this? Any thoughts on this book or the character of Morgan le Fay in general? P.S can we take a moment to appreciate the stunning cover design 😍🤤 #morganlefay #arthurianlegend #classicretelling #morganismyname #sophiekeetch #ashleighjadereads #bookstagramfeatures #mybookfeatures #readingjournal #recommendedbooks #readingjournal #bookflatlay #bookishthoughts #beautifulbooks

““My name is Morgan,” I said. “And there aren’t enough words for all that I am.”“ - Morgan Is My Name, Sophie Keetch • I’ve often felt Morgan Le Fay deserved better than many of her portrayals; especially the ones where she disguises herself in order to seduce King Arthur (who happens to be her half brother) and then bares a son by him who ultimately usurps the throne and kills Arthur. She hasn’t always been painted in the most flattering light, despite her also being of a sharp wit and intellect. This Morgan certainly comes out swinging in first part of a new trilogy retelling of her story. The expected Medieval / Arthurian mythology elements are all here along with a strong supporting cast of characters some extra magic, political, and courtly intrigue. I’m certainly going to continue this series and see how she grows #morganismyname #sophiekeetch #arthurianlegend #morganlefay #kingarthur #merlin #yafantasy #yahistoricalfantasy #mythology #welsh #cornwall #tintagel #readin2024 🎶Suite from Poldark, Anne Dudley

4⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ E a voi piace l'argomento? L'avete letto?

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Morgan Is My Name - Sophie Keetch What can I say about this book? It was so epic it actually exceeded my expectations within the first chapter. As a mood reader, I have had this book on my shelf for a long while, waiting for the right moment to read it - which happened this week. It was the perfect mix of being in the right mood and the book being exactly what I wanted and more. This book gives us the origin story of Morgan, aka Morgana Le Fay, as known from Arthurian Legends as the villain or evil sorceress (as in the BBC show Merlin). Instead here we see her as a child and experience her idyllic life in Tintagel with her two sisters and beloved parents... until her father dies and Uther Pendragon appears (aka Giles from Buffy). I don't want to divulge anymore because I don't want to spoil the story at all, even if you have a basic knowledge of these characters and the legends, I'd advise reading this with fresh eyes as it is deserving of your complete attention in its own right. This is book one of a trilogy and the sequel, Le Fay, is out in July so you have plenty of time to buy and devour it! Clear some time and prepare yourself, this is not a book you'll easily put down. The narrative of Morgan is so poetic and evocative it feels like she's telling her story to you and only you; so you care deeply about her freedom, her future aspirations, and share in the rage she is made to feel at the injustices caused by the men around her. Bring on book 2!! Please let me know if you have read this or if you plan to soon! Are Arthurian Myths your thing too?

This one has been on my TBR for a while now and is quite different from what I've been reading recently, so I've got high hopes for it breaking my slump. I've always loved a Morgan Le Fay character - my first fictional crush was Katie McGraph's portrayal of Morgana in BBC's Merlin back in the day.... QOTD - who was your first fictional crush, from a book, TV show, film etc? #currentreads #booksofinstagram #booksbooksbooks #feministretelling #fantasy #mythsandlegends #arthuriantale #morganismyname #sophiekeetch

#ebook - #kobo - #SophieKeetch - #Ilsegretodimorgana - #newtoncomptoneditori - #fantasy - #rettaling - #bookstram @newtoncomptoneditori - @sophiekeetchauthor

🌊I came to this Arthurian retelling without a huge amount of knowledge of the myths, I know the basics but didn't know much of Morgan Le Fay's story. I realised after reading that this is the first of a promised trilogy, which makes much more sense! What we receive in this first part is a slow-paced story focused on Morgan growing up - from childhood to adulthood, through discovery, friendship, first love and into her first marriage. The prose is beautifully written. Scenes that describe the elements and the rugged landscape Morgan is surrounded by are especially evocative and brooding. There has been some criticism about inserting modern sensibilities on historical stories, especially feminist retellings, but I think there's a balance to be struck. Writers write in the time that they live in, and we shouldn't get bogged down in exactly how it was at the time - especially when 'the time' is a vague, medieval/middle ages that is mostly myth and legend! I'll absolutely be waiting for the next in this series to come out - Keetch's word choices and almost melodic phrasing were a genuine pleasure to read. 5/5

#morganismyname #sophiekeetch #oneworldpublications #morganlefay #lafeemorgane #arthurian #legendearthurienne #booksta #bookstagram #bookstagramfrance #livrestagram #instabook #lecture #avislecture #chroniquelitteraire

📚Book Review! MORGAN IS MY NAME by Sophie Keetch (@sophiekeetchauthor) A magical retelling if Morgan Le Fay of Cornwall, her life and marriage, her difficulties and passions, with familiar British legends like Merlin and King Arthur! 🏰When King Uther Pendragon murders her father and tricks her mother into marriage, Morgan refuses to be crushed. Trapped amid the machinations of men in a world of isolated castles and gossiping courts, she discovers secret powers. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 👑Reading MORGAN was such a pleasure. Sophie Keetch’s prose is gorgeous, and I was soon swept into Morgan’s world - a pawn of an English kingdom ruled by men. Rich with historical detail (which I love), it reminded me of books by Philippa Gregory, one of my favourite authors. 👑It was fascinating seeing this part of English history entwined with legend. Morgan is a great character - hotheaded and fearless. So many moments made me smile in satisfaction because she is such a boss! 👑The last thirty pages especially had me spellbound! I can’t wait to read LE FAY! #oneworldpublications #morganismyname #morganlefay #historicalfiction #sophiekeetch #merlin #kingarthur #utherpendragon #lefay #bookreview #historicalfantasy

✨ 2 0 2 4 ✨ I’ve been feeling distant on here for the last year or so, yet seeing and sharing love for reading is one of the reasons I haven’t yet just deleted all social medias and resorted to an old timey phone. Today I realised something I NEED to focus on this year - apart from working hard on and enjoying my studies - is to create. Art, crafts, any form of creation is a necessity for this insane world we live in. I feel like I am feeding my soul inch by inch to consumption, and taking in so many negative consumption, yet I am not using my energy to make things to put back into the world. To add to my energy reserves, to act, and not just spend time and energy reacting. 🩵 So apart from reading some books I have anticipated to for some time, and rereading favourites, I want to further spend time taking photos, drawing, crocheting, and writing. I intend to be intentional and mindful in what I am doing, with my focus being more on the how and not on how much. I hope this new year will have more soft moments than harsh ones, more compassion than hate, and more creation than destruction. ✨ #LMSJanuary2024 - Anticipated #readingadventuresjan24 - Q: trickster, #shelfiesaturday #ReadingInTheWeb - books you want to reread #circe #madelinemiller #hermajestysroyalcoven #junodawson #morganismyname #sophiekeetch #piranesi #susannaclarke #assassinsapprentice #robinhobb #wehavealwayslivedinthecastle #shirleyjackson #ifwewerevillains #mlrio #emilywildesencyclopaediaoffaeries #heatherfawcett #theonceandfuturewitches #alixeharrow #dune #frankherbert #fortheloveofreading #anticipatedsequels #bookish #rereads #escapeintobooks #fortheloveofbooks

Quanta amarezza in queste pagine!

Cinque stelle meritatissime, leggetelo! 🛡️🗡️ • • • #sophiekeetch #ilsegretodimorgana #happynewyear #2024 #read #reading #medioevo #morgana #merlino #utherpendragon #reartù #fatamorgana #books #book #booklover #bookslovers #booksaddict #bookstagram #bookcommunity #readreadread #readeveryday #booknerd #bookblogger

(Cit.). E la storia continua… 😎 #libri #crescitapersonale #goodvibes #motivazionedelgiorno #Merlin #Artù #Morgana #sophiekeetch #newtoncompton #magia

Last read of the year and I absolutely loved it. It had been a while between Arthurian stories and Morgan’s story has always been a favourite. Can’t wait for the next book #SophieKeetch #morganismyname #oneworldpublications #arthurianlegend #morganlefay

I finished 78 books this year and it was pretty tough picking my favourites, but here they are! They're in no particular order but if I had to pick just one, I'd probably go with The Secret History. There's definitely a strong theme of badass women and a little magic here. This was also the year my TBR absolutely exploded as I joined the realms of book socials and just constantly saw the amazing stuff everyone's reading - so plenty to do next year! Are any of your favourites on this stack? #bookstagram #books #emilywildesencyclopaediaoffaeries #heatherfawcett #apsalmforthewildbuilt #beckychambers #thesecrethistory #donnatartt #alongwaytoasmallangryplanet #bookshopsandbonedust #travisbaldree #morganismyname #sophiekeetch #theshadowcabinet #junodawson #babel #rfkuang #weyward #emiliahart #badmen #juliemaecohen #theadventuresofaminaalsirafi #shannonchakraborty #theprioryoftheorangetree #samanthashannon

Here are my favourite books from each month this year, for the second half. It was insanely hard to decide but I also loved going back through and reminiscing on all the really good books I’ve read this year!

Fierce, powerful, essential Morgan is my Name by @sophiekeetchauthor Morgan is my Name is a feminist retelling of the legendary figure Morgan Le Fay (or Morgana) from Arthurian legend. Passionate, raw, beautifully written and utterly captivating. The audiobook of the year and an absolute must read. A historical fiction with fantastical elements that is incredibly accurate not only to the Arthurian legends upon which it is based, but also to the historical time period it is set within, the languages used (including Welsh!!!), and the geopolitical landscape of the time. I was captivated immediately. The beautiful and immersive writing creating such emotion and impact that within the first four chapters I declared this would be a new favourite book of all time for me, and after finishing it, I can assure you that claim still stands. The messages and heart of this book truly shine through, shedding light on certain topics, including female rights, ensuring you will be thinking about this book for a long time after you finish it. This book weighs heavily on my heart and mind (in truly the best way), bringing me hope and motivation, determination and courage to go forth and help make these important changes come to light in a world perhaps not as fair as is often assumed, and to continue spreading the messages the book holds at its core. This is a book that has imprinted itself on my very soul and I do not wish to remove it. I embrace it and all that it reveals, sharing in the weight and joy and empowerment and fierce determination that Morgan is my Name holds. Morgan Le Fay is an incredible character in Arthurian literature and legends, one that was always determined to last, that would not be forgotten, that will seek her vengeance, her rights, and the protection of all she holds dear. A character that we all know of, but do not truly know... until now. Until Morgan is my Name. •Continued in caption…

How often do you use your local library? • ✧ • ✧ • Some library holds arrived this week and I am SO KEEN: 🔮 MORGAN IS MY NAME – @sophiekeetchauthor A feminist retelling of the early life of Morgan le Fay 🥀 FAIR ROSALINE – @natashasolomonsauthor A feminist ‘untelling’ of ‘Romeo and Juliet’ from Rosaline’s perspective Both of these sound like catnip for this bookworm’s soul. Arthurian legends? Shakespeare? But with FEMINISM? YAS PLEASE 🙌 • ✧ • ✧ • As for this Friday’s fun fact… Y’all know I love libraries, but did you know Australian library systems benefit authors as well as readers? Aside from the obvious perks (like getting your book in front of a wider audience), the Australian government has a system called the Australian Lending Right Schemes: 📚 Public Lending Rights (PLR) – covers books held in public libraries 📚 Educational Lending Rights (ELR) – covers books held in libraries at schools, universities, and educational institutions Creators (that is, authors, editors, illustrators, translators and compilers) can register their books for the schemes. Once registered, the government will recognise the income creators have lost due to their work being available for free rather than bought in a shop, which would have seen those creators earn royalties. Previously, the lending schemes were only applicable to physical books. Earlier this year, the Australian government extended the schemes to cover audio and ebooks, too (finally 🙃). Before y’all get excited: ELR and PLR apply per COPY of a book, not per BORROW. That is, the schemes operate similarly to you buying a book and repeatedly loaning it to friends, rather than creatives receiving royalties per ‘stream’, if libraries were to work in the same way as a subscription channel. Better than nothing though, hey? • ✧ • ✧ • 💬 What was the last book you borrowed? . . . . . . . #thecheerfulbookworm medieval bookworm avidly reading Arthurian stories #retelling witches knights heroic adventures in chivalry #fantasybooks morgana rosaline romeo and juliet novel #fantasyauthors bookish bookdragon supporting libraries #bookhaul booked up bibliophile #tbr readerly fantasy aussie bookstagram
