๐Ÿ“•The Tree with a thousand apples ๐ŸŽ๐Ÿ My emotions and my review for this book is a bit mixed to say the least. Let me try to put it in perspective. So here goes.. ๐Ÿ“I did enjoy the book for its ability to paint a very vivid picture in my mind. The storyline is pretty impressive and the characters are well written. ๐Ÿ“It is the story of 3 kids- Safeena, Bilal and Deewan whose lives are invariably impacted albeit in different ways on 20th January 1990. ๐Ÿ“I liked the plot but expected more from it and the climax was a little disappointing.ย ย  ๐Ÿ“The story at certain points felt very much dragged out and not very relatable to me. It might be because I am fortunate enough to not have gone through the ordeal that the protagonists had to go through. ๐Ÿ“It has depictions of violence which according to me was graphic and uncomfortable to read, which on retrospection must have been the author's whole point. ๐Ÿ“On the whole I would recommend it for those people who do not mind the graphic depictions of violence and abuse and those who do not as of yet have an idea or even a slight inkling of the impact of the Kashmir riots and the resulting exodus of the Kashmiri Pandits. This book serves as a really good emotional standpoint to the Kashmir riots. ๐Ÿ“My only grouse with the author would be that I'm not entirely sure if the author has presented an unbiased view of the riots but I do respect his view and narrative since he definitely knows more about the topic any which way compared to me ๐Ÿ˜… ๐Ÿ“Nevertheless, my mind was definitely in turmoil for a while after I finished this book and I thank the author for this eye opener. I would rate this book 3.8/5.ย  Hope this helps ๐Ÿ˜. THE TREE WITH A THOUSAND APPLES โœ๏ธAuthor- Sanchit Gupta ๐Ÿ“‘Genre- Socio-political thriller, Historical Fiction ๐Ÿ‚The story of Safeena, Bilal, and Deewan who are forced to separate on the fateful night of 20 January 1990. After 20 years, life makes them cross their paths, they're wound by the haunts of belongingness, atonement, and revenge. ๐Ÿ‚Safeena, Bilal, and Deewan grew up together in the beautiful lanes of Srinagar, Kashmir. The kids didn't know what caused the sudden uprise or what made Safeena's mother a 'collateral damage' or what turned Bilal's life into a wretched destiny. The emotions of compassion and injustice drives the story. It boasts of Srinagar's cultural beauty. And, at the same time throws light on the political ignorance prevalent during the turbulent times. A few parts felt a bit stretched at times but the author briskly changed the pace of the plot in the next half. It gave a tempo to the storyline. ๐Ÿค”Do I Recommend It? Add it to your reading list of you're also a Historical Fiction fan like me๐Ÿ™‹โ€โ™€๏ธ ๐Ÿ“ŠMy Rating- 4.6/5 #qotd - Do you re-read books? โญโญโญ Three stars for .... Sanchit Gupta's The tree with a thousand apples. A very emotional and melancholic book to read. It's very different from what I usually pick for myself. The language was easy, the story was fast and it was extremely sad and heartbreaking. A must buy for those who are interested in the Kashmir culture and how badly the innocent are affected. The story is about three friends in Kashmir and how they are separated due to war, caste, class and other social issues. Twenty years later their paths cross again. It's a beautiful amalgamation of the past, present and future. There were a lot of sensitive topics in this book. It has touched upon the plight of Kashmiris, the Pandits and the Muslims. The writer has kept a very good balance showcasing the plight of everyone who has suffered in Kashmir. He takes no sides and shows how everyone is in the end, collateral damage. Some chapters were a little traumatic for me. But I have loved the author's description of Kashmir and its culture. I really felt like I was transported there and felt like I was having Kawha with the characters. If you have read this till the end...thank you so much! Hope this review helps. @sanchit421 Wonderful work! #thetreewithathousandapples #love #bookreader #bookpost #bookblogger #bookstagrammer #bookreview #bookstagram

The Tree with a Thousand Apples By-@sanchit421 Rating-๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ/5 Inspired by true events, this is the story of 3 childhood friends- Safeena Malik,Deewan Bhar and Bilal Ahanagar- who grew up in peaceful atmosphere before Kashmir was hit by militancy. What followed was exodus of Kashmiri Pandits and eventually the paradise was enveloped in fear and poverty.Whole Kashmir was turned into battleground and their friendship faced test when fate forced them to choose sides against their will. 20 years later, when their paths crossed again, they no longer cared what was right or wrong. They tried to pick up whatever was left of their broken lives. Now, what path will they choose- crime and peace? This is the story of cultural indifferences, revenge and one's longing for homeland. But above all it's about Kashmir, people's inner hidden demons and emotional turmoils. The narration of mass murder, rape, riots leave you feeling helpless, angry and terrified. One point that really needs to be highlighted is the fact that- as the story progresses you witness more violence in name of land and religion, yet the author's narration gives you the picture with a neutral view. There's no bias towards any character. This book is a must read.I highly recommend this book. #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #book #booklover #booknerd #bookworm #bookish #booksofinstagram #readersofinstagram #bookrecommendations #bookreview #igreads #bookaddict #bookphotography #bookblogger #bookblog #bookgram #thetreewithathousandapples #contemporaryfiction #bookcommunity #bookclub

The Tree With A Thousand Apples-Sanchit Gupta Ratingโญ๏ธโญ๏ธโญ๏ธโญ๏ธ Childhood friends Bilal, Safeena and Deewan lived in peace and harmony as they grew up in Srinagar, Kashmir, until the night of January 20, 1990, when everything changed. Since Deewan is a Kashmiri Pandit and his family's life are in danger on January 20th 1990, when Kashmir suffers ruthless killings, Safeena's family provides shelter to Deewans family. Deewan looses his brother Ravi after the militants kill him. Safeena witnesses her mother's death in front of her while the entire scene is being viewed from a battlefield. Deewan's family is therefore obligated to leave their own country in order to be safe. Bilal sees his sister being raped and killed by the General and decides to take their side in order to exact his own revenge. However, not long after, he witnesses Safeena's father being shot. Safeena is being held captive by the Major, who rapes her every night, and looses her family. They are all going to cross paths twenty yeara from now, but will they choose to be saints or criminals? The author does a wonderful job of describing Kashmir, the people's feelings, and their inner struggles. You find yourself experiencing the riots and murders and are left feeling absolutely helpless. You can actually sense how the characters are experiencing when they are terrified, hurt or angry. The book's storyline was consistent throughout, and it captures the reader's attention right away. This book was both upsetting and fascinating to read, in my opinion I agree that everyone should read this book! #faaizahsclubofbooksreview #bookreview #sanchitgupta #thetreewithathousandapples #mustread #alwaysbooks #bookofinsta #readallday #libraryofbooks #bookishpost #igreads #bookaddict #readmore #bookcommunityuk #readingspots #bookrecommendation #read #readmorebooks #cozyreadsandtea #explorepage

The book 'The Tree with a Thousand Apples' by Sanchit Gupta is nothing less than a literary masterpiece. The story revolves around Kashmir, the so called 'Paradise on Earth', now rendered wretched by some of its own inhabitants. The beautiful valleys, the Dal, the shikaras (house boats) and the mighty Jhelum are all mute spectators to the fear and terror that now reside in the empty homes. This story focuses on the lives of three people- Deewan,Safeena and Bilal- and how their destinies change forever on one fateful night. The Kashmiri Pandits (also known as Kashmiri Brahmins) are a group of Kashmiri Hindus and a part of the larger Saraswat Brahmin community of India. In 1990, a large-scale migration of the Kashmiri Pandits took place, from the Muslim-majority Kashmir valley in Indian-administered Kashmir after increased violence in an uprising launched by a pro-independence group. Sparked by the recent movie, The Kashmir Files, I wanted to delve deeper into the lives of these downtrodden souls, who were torn from their homes due to no fault of theirs, and are ravaged till date with sad memories and a longing for a home which does not exist. Some of these books are true accounts, along with a few memoirs and others are as told by the survivors of the ethnic cleansing. The literature on the Kashmiri Panditโ€™s plight has been verbosely documented in the last decade, but the readership is at an all time low. I rifled through a number of books and boiled down my list to the 6 I plan to read sometime in the future. #QOTD Have you read any books on this topic? Suggest your favourites. | The tree with a thousand apples Author : Sanchit Gupta Genre : Thriller Rating : 4.5 The tree with a thousand apples has the same feel as did The kite runner. We all know about kashmir and everyone had an opinion about it, on a grand political stage. This story is not about that, it's not about right and wrong. It is about the lives of people like you and me, innocent people living by the codes of humanity and brotherhood. What happens to these people when suddenly a war erupts. It's truly heartbreaking. The author does a wonderful job of getting you as close to the life kashmir as possible. It's filled with trivias and references of kashimiri life. You can feel the cold breeze and the dampness of the snow through mere words on dry pages. The characters and the dynamics between them are very well articulated. You feel a connect. The despair, the pain, the anger and the meaning of true friendship. The book is brilliant in so many ways. No doubt about it. But, I expected a better ending. This story is not that kind of fiction where the protagonist does an unbelievable task in the end, The submersion in reality is it's strength. But as a story, i did feel nothing great happens as the big resolution, the moment of reckoning or redemption. It was there alright but felt kind of mellow. That's all. . @sanchit421 . #indianfiction #indianauthors #sanchitgupta #thetreewithathousandapples #indiannovels #bookstagram #bookrecommendations #bookreview #books

Set in the backdrop of Srinagar, โ€˜The Tree With a Thousand Applesโ€™ by @sanchit421 is a riveting book. The geo-politics and the conflict in the Kashmir Valley is a complex issue. It is tough to find a neutral tone and still shed light on the chaos racking this area for decades now. This book does an excellent job as it finds its footing in highly complex but emotional and genuine characters. This is the story of three friends - Safeena Malik, Deewan Bhat, and Bilal Ahanaga who were inseparable as children. They enjoyed a reasonably well-adjusted life in Srinagar in the late 80s. But all that changed on 20th January 1990 when Kashmir became a battleground. Deewan was forced to flee, while Saafeenaโ€™s mother became collateral damage. Bilal was stuck in a life of never-ending terror and harassment. Twenty years later, they are still grappling with the consequences of the past and their actions are driven by their own experiences. There are some thought-provoking lines and situations in the book. To quote a few - โœจ Quote - If the criminal was once a saint and the saint was once a criminal, then who is a criminal, and who is a saint? โœจ Situation - If a person who murdered your brother also ended up killing your fatherโ€™s murderer, what should be your reaction? โœจ Quote - The deadliest sin in the world is to create evil around us. โœจ Moral - Than the actions of the evil person, it is the inaction of a good person that has a more significant impact! The beauty of this book is it does not talk about the โ€˜Kashmirโ€™ issue on a macro-level but instead focuses on it in a micro-level. It explores what individuals are going through. And it is heartbreaking! My Recommendation ๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿพ DO NOT MISS IT!!! #thetreewithathousandapples #sanchitgupta #kashmir #kashmiribooks #kawah

It was a gifted to my father as a Christmas present. Secret Santa and stuff. It lay in the deepest corner of the bookshelf. Until, I decided to read it. Now, I had my reservations but the book surpassed my expectations. Truth be told, I had pretty low expectation. Kashmir. A piece of land that is suppose to be heaven. Instead a personal hell for everyone living there. It has seen the darkest of horrors. It has seen lives taken, hell breaking loose, and playground turning into a battlefield. The story is about the three bestfriends - Deewan, Safeena, and Bilal. Deewan was a sorted and sensible guy. He knew which battles to pick. Being a hindu pandit, Deewan and his family had relocate as the tension peeked in the valley. While Deewan's car sped down state, he worried about missing Bilal's birthday. Bilal comes from a lower islamic family. He is fierce and almost always find solutions in physical assault. And his life revolved around his friends - he would kill or die for them. Thus, he was sad that both Deewan and Safeena missed his party. Safeena, a girl from working class islamic family, witnessed a terrifying scene unfold in her household that leaves her shaken. She outgrows from a timid and depend girl into self reliant and bold woman. Twenty years later, they cross roads again. Their lives still recovering from the terrors of yesterday. That they derail their present but all for friendship. So worth it, right? All of these protagonists, had a normal life like any other would have. But they lived in Kashmir. How could it be like any other? They saw people dying, apples growing, and jeans lying in a trunk. The story left me wailing at four am. I remember the exact moment when I completed the novel. The way it made me feel. The writer did a good job at describing the mess Kashmir brings in lives of Kashmiris. The story never halts, it keeps the reader on toes. One has to be attentive of every incident, every name. Because no matter how small the character seems, it meets it's end. #thetreewithathousandapples #sanchitgupta #indianbookstagrammer #bookstagram

The tree with a thousand apples is the story of three Kashmiri friends by the name of Deewan Bhat, Bilal Ahanagar and Safeena Malik. It's the tale which epitomizes the foundation on which Indian civilization rests i.e. Pluralism. Although, I strongly recommend to readers to read this book. But, before you read this novel, I suggest you to read, Curfewed Night by Basharat Peer and Our moon has blood clots by Rahul Pandita, afterwards you can go for this novel. โ€œIf the criminal was once a saint and the saint was once a criminal, then who is a criminal and who is a saint?โ€ The Tree with a Thousand Apples by Sanchit Gupta was particularly enlightening for me. For somebody who has never read books based on Kashmir and the conflicts before, the story seemed very close and distant at the same time. The novel based on true events tells us the story of three best friends โ€“ Safeena, Bilal and Deewan whose life takes a treacherous turn tearing them apart and feeding them to the cruelty of politics and insurgencies. It is a riveting story that deserves to be read and reread! The best part about the book is the friendship, the purity and devotion of it. Itโ€™s the friendship that binds the characters and the story together. I mean, I would kill to have friends like Safeena, Bilal and Deewan. P.S: I would recommend you finish The Tree with a Thousand Apples in one sitting (or two) to absorb it the right way. I am guilty of not doing it and I sincerely regret it. A few days back, I read and reviewed a book called 'The tree with a thousand apples' . It is one of the most brilliant books I have read. ( You can read the review on my feed) So, basically, this book is about everything happens in Kashmir that we usually don't see in newspapers. A story inspired from true events, this book proves itself to be one of the best books on Kashmir situation, at least for me. I am so happy that I got this opportunity to have a quick virtual chat with the author of this book, Sanchit Gupta. He is an engineer turned brand manager turned author and screenwriter. We talked about his writing process, rejections, backlashes, backstories, and much more. A part of our conversation โฌ‡๏ธ Q : The Tree with a Thousand Apples is a catchy title and when I read the book, I loved the reference of this title. What brought this title to your mind? โ—€๏ธThe phrase was part of the prose when I was writing the book. I romanticized this idea of a giving tree, the one rich with apples that is the soul of Kashmir. That tree doesnโ€™t discriminate. It gives it fruits to both the Kashmiri Muslim and Kashmiri Pandit families as its branches laden with apples reach out to both the houses. Itโ€™s a metaphor for Kashmir. The tree doesnโ€™t move from its place, it doesnโ€™t order its branches to change their nature. Such is also the idea of Kashmir and Kashmiriyat. The people, however, change. The way they look at the tree changes. They make it wither. The tree was and continues to remain silent, yet it speaks volumes. This phrase I felt embodied everything I wanted the book to be about, and hence later became its title. ____ Check the link in bio to read this interview. (Read time 3-4 mins)

๐Ÿ“Trigger warnings๐Ÿ“ //Rape, Murder, Curfew violence, Terrorism, Death of the loved ones// If any of these triggers you, do not read this review and book right now. Come back later, whenever you are fine to read. Or never come back to this post at all. Because I do not know if any of my followers have been through what I am about to mention in the following paragraphs or the content of this book. And the fact that this book is based on true events, I am afraid that it can be possible. So, dear followers, skip this review if you want. I do not intend to haunt anyone with bad memories. ๐Ÿ“Srinagar, India: 20th January 1990ย  Happy Birthday to youย  Happy Birthday to youย  Happy Birthday dear Bilal Happy Birthday to you!! Bilalโ€™s mother sings the melody and his sister, father and some neighbours join in. It's Bilalโ€™s 11th birthday, and he is not happy because his best friends Safeena Malik and Deewan Bhat are not with him. Bilal is not only sad but also angry with his friends. How can they not come? They promised. Poor Bilal does not know that Deewan and his family are hiding in Safeenaโ€™s house. Because there are people on the streets, cutting throats, raping women, killing children. What for? Azadi! Freedom.ย  Hum kya chahte? Azadi! Hard dard ka marham? Azadi! Chahe jail bhejo, Azadi! Chahe goli maro, Azadi! Ham chheen ke lenge, Azadi! Crowd cheers!!โœŠ On the same night, Deewan loses his brother, and Safeena loses her mother. The beautiful friendship between Safeena, Bilal and Deewan and all the memories in a paradise called Kashmir vanish in the darkness of that night. The fact that Deewan and his family are Kashmiri Pandit forces them to leave Kashmir because that was the only way to live further. That one night turns their life upside down. Being Kashmiri Muslims, Bilal and Safeena's families suffer too. The only thing remaining undisturbed there is a tree with a thousand apples in their backyard.ย  I loved the reference of this tree used in this book. Just brilliant! Author: Sanchit Gupta Number Of Pages: 284 (Hardcover) Genre: Thriller, Historical Fiction Trigger Warning: Violence, Rape "Oh, you foolish children! Curfew is never over. That is a thing about curfew in this town. It doesn't matter what the loudspeaker says, the curfew is never over. This town is a prison, a prison with lakes and flowers." I remember asking my parents as a child why we never go to Kashmir for a holiday and they used to answer," waha ka mauhal sahi nahi hai abhi, jald hi theek hoga toh jayenge." It is not safe to visit Kashmir right now, as soon as it is safe we will definitely go. It has been twenty years to this conversation and they still answer the same. The Tree with a Thousand Apples, is a story based on true events across a span of 24 years. It follows the exodus of Hindus from Kashmir and the effect that left on the community of Kashmir. The story focuses on the lives of three children, Safeena, Bilal and Deewan and how everything turns upside down in one night leading each of them to take actions that they never imagined in their wildest dreams. Praise should be given to the author because as the story progresses, there is violence in the name of peace and religion and the author has maintained a neutral point of view without creating any prejudice in his characters, and providing understandings of the mindset of all the people and communities involved. ๐Ÿ‘‰Read my complete review on my blog. "Peace? No Deewan Bhai they don't want peace! All they want is to point a finger. It makes them feel lighter in their souls, justified in their existence. They feel proud that they are doing everything they can to eliminate the evil. Whoever that might be, they don't care. All they want is a hero to worship and a villain to condemn" Book : The Tree with a Thousand Apples Author : Sanchit Gupta Rating : 5/5 If there was a book that shook me up and made me question my reality, it was this book. Hey my bookish friends! Happy Monday๐Ÿ˜โค โœจBook reviewโœจThe tree with a thousand applesโœจ This is the story of three childhood friends, Bilal, Safeena and Deewan. They belong to the beautiful Kashmir and the three of them supported each other like a family. Unfortunately, destiny had some other plans for them. They get separated from each other during one of the riots that happened in their hometown and their lived turns upside down. After years, three of them happens to meet each other and nothing remains the same anymore. The tree with a thousand apples by @sanchit421 is a kind of story that will definitely leave you heartbroken. First of all, I appreciate the author for selecting such a bold plot to write a book. The author has tried his best to portray the life and hardships of the people in Kashmir. Even after finishing the book, I kept constantly thinking about the plot and characters. The title of the book was really interesting and once the story progresses, the reader gets an idea about the reason why the book has been named as such. And the cover of the book is really pretty. #thetreewithathousandapples #qotd Can you name a book which left you in tearsโ“ #qotd Name a book wherein the after effect of the words lingered on far longer even when you had finished reading the bookโ“ #aotd This is one book which had me in tears..throughout the read. Even after finishing the read..I couldnot help but think about the people of Kashmir. The choice of words..was perfect. The narration is so descriptive that it leaves nothing to imagination. The language used, although simple with a few new words here & there, is perfect. There is use of vernacular language, the meanings are given on the same page itself. For rest of the words, there's a glossary at the end of the book. ๐ŸŒณThe tree with a thousand apples stood tall amidst the hedge with its roots & branches spreading to both the houses, one of the Kashmiri Pandits & other of the Kashmiri Muslims..the way it had always been... ๐Ÿ And now, the tree is drying..the wood is coming apart..there are no apples.. squirrels & insects have made their house in the hollows..it is slowly dying.. The tree, as is the Title of the book and the Cover Design..is symbolic of Kashmir..the love, calm & peace that was once prevalent there. The tug of war for ownership of the land & it's people has resulted in diminishing the Jannat (heaven) on Earth.. Genre: fiction; inspired by true events. This is a gorgeous, hardbound book with a beautiful dust jacket with the same design printed on the book as well. The cover design is by Misha Oberoi. One can find illustrations & autumn leaf design at regular instances in the book. Character sketch is wonderfully done. The size of the book, the cover, the designing, the language, the story.. everything is PERFECT. There are no loose ends. My 2nd โญโญโญโญโญ read of the month! Hey everyone! How are you feeling today? Did you manage to get some reading done today? ๐Ÿ“–๐Ÿ“˜๐Ÿ“–๐Ÿ“˜๐Ÿ“– Reading Update: I'm currently reading Eat Pray Love. I'm reading it very slowly because I'm not really liking it. It seems very superficial to me and I'm getting a vibe that I'm reading about a privileged woman who is constantly ranting about her struggles. I still have to read the book's last section so let's see if my view changes. ๐Ÿ“–๐Ÿ“˜๐Ÿ“–๐Ÿ“˜๐Ÿ“– One of my goals this year is to be more self aware and explore spirituality. I want to read more and more books to help me do that. ๐Ÿ“–๐Ÿ“˜๐Ÿ“–๐Ÿ“˜๐Ÿ“– So far I have read 5 books this month, my favourite being Art Matters. I recently reviewed it so check out my profile to read it. I'm much more inclined towards non-fictional books these days so I'm really enjoying reading them. ๐Ÿ“–๐Ÿ“˜๐Ÿ“–๐Ÿ“˜๐Ÿ“– If you have a non-fictional recommendation for me, do leave it in the comment section. . . #libri #bookstagram #igreads #bookblogger #ilovebooks #booknerdian #bookalicious #postitforaesthetic #bookishgirl #instareads #readingislife #readingday #readingupdate #nevermoor #onedayindecember #jhumpalahiri #othello #williamshakespeare #thetreewithathousandapples #faultinourstars #johngreen #thelightwelost #allthebrightplaces #thekiterunner #khaledhosseini #everynoteplayed #ikigai #bookpile #bluebooks #bluebookstack

November 3: Favourite Indian Fiction . . Q: Read these brilliant Indian novels? . . . Sharing today some of my favourite Indian fiction, novels, short stories and novellas. God of Small Things won Arundhati Roy the Man Booker in 1997. Half The Night is Gone and All The Lives We Never Lived were shortlisted for @thejcbprize 2018 and Milk Teeth by @ummrita was longlisted this year. Perumal Murugan made it to the shortlist both the years with Poonachi and the twin sequels to One Part Woman. Pyre was the first Murugan novel I read and it was instant love. Gul Gulshan Gulfam is a dreamy book on Kashmir when it was paradise and Curfewed Night is that subtle change a dream takes and becomes a nightmare. Untouchable by Mulk Raj Anand is a classic novella on the caste system in India. Forest of Enchantments by @divakarunichitra is a revelation of a read. A retelling of the Hindu epic, Ramayana, from the point of view of Sita. The Tree With a Thousand Apples by @sanchit421 is a very well-written and balanced book on Kashmir, a very difficult thing to achieve with so many political pitfalls. The last is Pigeons of the Domes, a compilation of stories on communalism that will move you with their powerful emotions and drain the hatred from your blood and leave you with pure empathy. A must must read in the times we are living in. . . Any book you want to know more about? Ask me in the comments. . . . . . #30days30posts #november #indianfiction #pyre #perumalmurugan #onepartwoman #bookstagram #bookstagramindia #books #gulgulshangulfam #sunday #sundayreads #india #travelgram #arundhatiroy #godofsmallthings #jcbprize2019 #literature #halfthenightisgone #milkteeth #bombay #allthelivesweneverlived #thetreewithathousandapples #untouchable #theforestofenchantments #pigeonsofthedomes #curfewednight #kashmir #basharatpeer

Posted @withrepost โ€ข @frenchflaps_and_deckleedges Iโ€™d had The Tree With a Thousand Apples on my TBR for months after @vapoursofthoughts and @thebookishtales raved about it and Iโ€™m so glad I finally read it! . Set during the insurgent times in Kashmir during 1990, this is the story of three childhood friends who are separated and are forced to live under the cruel circumstances of the war-torn Kashmir. Twenty years later, their paths cross and what is left of them through their individual fights for justice, belonging and revenge; the book recounts the stories of hundreds of innocent Kashmiris whose lives were erupted in a single night and they could no longer call the place their home. . I found the book cleverly structured, with a good balance of the Kashmir culture and the harrowing details of the exodus of the Kashmiri pandits and what happened after. The book is fast paced, crisp and is written with a sense of urgency.. it broke my heart. . A work of fiction so powerful and vivid, The Tree With a Thousand Apples is one of the most impactful and moving books Iโ€™ve read this year. I give it โญ๏ธโญ๏ธโญ๏ธโญ๏ธ/5 and highly recommend it! 'if I should summarize in one word, the word โ€œimportantโ€ comes to mind and stays there' #Repost @seattlebookwormrunner โ€ข โ€ข โ€ข โ€ข โ€ข โ€ข The Tree With A Thousand Apples By Sanchit Gupta . A beautifully woven story with Kashmir as the main location, a story of three kids growing up in the valley, a story of what happened in 1990, a story with conflict; of the police and the militants and the people, and finally a story of friendships and the things friends do for each another. . There is no emotion I didnโ€™t experience. Happiness, sure. Anger, sure. Confusion, sure. Hope, sure. Frustration, sure. Sadness, sure. Joy, sure. Not in this order of course but all of these. Would I read this book again, of course! As I said in my previous post, if I should summarize in one word, the word โ€œimportantโ€ comes to mind and stays there. We need not just happy books as readers but books that let us experience different emotions, this book did just that for me this year. . I urge you to consider this book as your next read! Thank you to Khubaib @khubaibliophile for the recommendation! . On a lighter note, I took several pictures for this post. This is a picture on a happy hour with my friends and itโ€™s the one I am going with. The friends we make and the friendships we keep are the backbone of this book, and thatโ€™s what I chose to be on my feed as well with this photo. . . If you have read it, let me know what you thought of it. Would you read it if you havenโ€™t already read it ? . . . . . . . . #bookstagram #booksofinstagram #bookworm #igreads #bookphotograph #books #readersofinstagram #beautifulbooks #seattle #pnw #weekendreading #bookflatlay #flatlaystyle #bookreview #sanchitgupta #thetreewithathousandapples #indianwriting #indianliterature

#bookcoverdesign #allthingsmishmash #niyogibooksindia #Repost @beingabookstagrammer (@get_repost) ใƒปใƒปใƒป A Quick Review of the book The Three with a Thousand Apples by @sanchit421 . Setup in the beautiful Valleys of Kashmir,* The tree with a thousand apples* is a story about three childhood friends Safeena , Deewan and Bilal. Their dreams as well as their lives are shattered one day when a tragedy happens. They three get separated.ย  Deewan being a Pandit, has to leave his house in order to safeguard him and his family from the insurgency. Bilal pledges to move on the path of becoming a terrorist so as to take revenge from the army who tortured his sister to death. Safeena who loses everyone in the war finds herself being trapped amongst the powerful. . While living their lives with their own share of fear and struggles, destiny brings them together once again. Lying in front of them, are the two paths- one leading towards crime & the other towards sainthood.ย  It perfectly depicts the struggles of the common Kashmiri people, the confused loyalties between the good and bad. . The novel has a beautiful story & a fast paced plot. It keeps us engaged from the very first page to the last one. A brilliant story created from true events which will shock you inside out. The author's writing style is simple, yet very gripping. I totally recommend this book to each and every one. . . For Full Review visit my blog. Link in Bio . This is a story of three friends; Bilal, Safeena and Deewan. A story of their friendship, love, losses, struggle, suffering and sacrifices. A story of every Kashmiri. This book tells us how each and every Kashmiri struggled and suffered in this hunger and desire for land of Kashmir. ๐Ÿ‘‰The cover is beautiful, unique and eye-catchy. And it's a Hard-cover, which adds to its beauty. ๐Ÿ‘‰Language is simple and easy to understand with usage of some local Kashmiri words at places to give it that Kashmiri touch. Those words/statements are also translated into english at the bottom of that particular page. ๐Ÿ‘‰Narration is very lucid and gripping. This strong narration makes everything seem so original and realistic. It doesn't feel like a work of fiction at all. ๐Ÿ‘‰Plot building is done well. The beautiful description of beautiful mountains and valleys of Kashmiri will rise that urge to visit Kashmiri in you. ๐Ÿ‘‰The end of this book was so the book was so touching and emotional. That moment when Bilal says" For us Deewan bhai, whatever it takes". Article 370 is history and with that, the paradise that was bleeding since ages sees a new dawn. The state has suffered a lot due to the militant insurgency, but now new hopes and aspirations have generated among the people of India. I happened to visit Kashmir in 2014 and it mesmerised me with its charm and beauty. However, I am not a resident of the region and can only talk about my experience as a tourist to the place. They say books are a personโ€™s best friend. So, hereโ€™s a list of few books based on Kashmir that will help you know the pain and struggle the people of Jammu and Kashmir had to face. https://www.mybookshelf.in/book-review/tryst-with-paradise-once-again/ #kashmir #mybookshelf #bookreviews #book #books #bookreview #review #reviews #ourmoonhasbloodclots #curfewednight #thetreewithathousandapples

QOTC (Question of the Century)- Is just the land of Kashmir ours or are the People ours too? "Stand for your rights, You tell me, And when I do You beat me down Break my bones And crush my soul? I may raise my voice Close my fist, and demand; Or seek and desire With polite words and a patient heart So that you and I can live in peace Forever, I wish; You should pray I choose the latter.' Whose Kashmir is it anyway? Of Kashmiri Muslims, of Kashmiri Pandits, of the Army men who live there ?ย Or is it of the children who suffer the fate of conflict today and will shape what comes tomorrow? ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ณ Republic Day Post 1 of 2. . . Celebrating this Republic Day by sharing some of the novels and short stories by Indian authors, well renowned and new. I will share some non-fiction books tomorrow. . . . I gain from every story, I crawl under the skin of the characters and learn from their mistakes, learn how not to behave and it helps me look at myself from various points. When a brother does injustice against his brother, a son gets irritated by his old parents, when a husband hurts his wife, emotionally or physically, an rich man behaves badly with someone poor, I tell myself that I should never do this. This also helps me reflect on how I had behaved in similar situations and I admonish myself to be better next time. This is my small contribution to becoming a better human being, a small unit in the larger machinery of the society and the nation. . . . These are some wonderful books handpicked for you and I guarantee you will enjoy reading them. . . . Be kind.
