I haven’t taken pre-workout in 4 years. Why? Well I think it’s pointless and a money grab. Pre-workout is a performance enhancing agent that lasts for 1-2 hours and provides you with more energy, alertness and stamina. I understand that there are maybe other pre-workouts that have other beneficial ingredients like nitric oxide, but overall it’s pointless. Nitric oxide is a molecule that aids in muscle recovery as well as enhanced blood flow to muscles. Pre-workout does nothing for your physical form, it’s simply an agent meant to provide energy. If you feel like you need caffeine all the time for energy, you need to reevaluate your health immediately. I can go to the gym on a cup of mushroom coffee and a full day of teaching and still have great lifts. It’s all in your head. You can easily and unknowingly put yourself into a placebo effect by saying, “I need pre-workout or I can’t lift”. You’ve just COMMANDED and trained your brain into thinking you can’t perform without taking pre-workout. Your brain is so powerful. Imagine if you switched those spoken and thoughtful words into “I can do anything, I’m amazing, this week is going to be great” because those phrases will and can be just as powerful. You have to change your spoken words from “I can’t” to “I can”. Stop thinking you need to rely on things to help you. There are a ton of natural ways to have energy and burning out your adrenal glands is not one of them! This is what I recommend. Start drinking a ton of water. You should be drinking half a gallon before noon. Have a cup of coffee. (If you like coffee) Reevaluate what you’re eating. Fats and carbs provide energy, protein maintains your muscle and keeps you full. Stop snacking. Usually snacks are too rich in fat and carbs (not the good kind) and makes you not hungry for your next important meal that contains everything healthy that you need. Invest in magnesium supplements, MCT oil, mushrooms and vitamins like B. Prioritize rest. I’m in bed and asleep at 9pm and wake up at 6. If you are finding out that you’re tired all the time still, I suggest taking a lot of time on resetting your body.

second official meet is done! first things first, videos will be posted later once I get a clearer version Baha now the debrief we all want: I decided to compete in this meet at the end of the summer just to get something in. I grinded all summer; even after 10 hour shifts of standing and tiredness I would still get my butt to the gym. I only had one block of meeting prep before this meet. Was that ideal? Maybe not. Did I still manage to gain around 50 lbs on to my total and PR, and fix up my bench chaos, oh absolutely! & that’s that. This meet was a little frustrating in some aspects: squat. I had a rough warmup and even my opener was a little slow. It made me mad but I had to realize women have so many biological things to begin w,iy lyk. Secondly, I am a night lifter and it was a morning meet. Didn’t have enough time to shove 3k calories down my body. So squat was really frustrating but what can we do? We can work on my depth and burry that bar and just learn. goals & improvements from last meet: 1. COMMANDS- on bench. I jumped commands and basically gave the refs a big ole middle finger last meet. However this time I kept my booty on the bench and waited for the commands. 9 white lights. At the end of the day I am more grateful for my mistakes, failures, and mess ups. Without my flaws I can’t get better. Being perfect and getting 27 white lights doesn’t teach me anything. Given, I prefer 27 white lights BUT I need to learn and be comfortable being uncomfortable. That’s all, more meet stuff tomorrow. GYM DUMP🤠 Swipe & save for some inspo! 🏋🏽‍♂️MILITARY PRESS— One of my favorite shoulder exercises. 🏋🏽‍♂️BACK SQUAT— One of my favorite leg exercises. 185lbs is the heaviest I’ve done, but I feel pretty good about the form there… my most important cue for myself is to keep my knees from caving in. 🏋🏽‍♂️SINGLE LEG PRESS— I don’t do these often but always love them when I do. 🏋🏽‍♂️BENCH PRESS— Emma and I <3 bench. 115lb was feeling very heavy this day, but Emma told me I had another in me (“You have one more in you.” “Really??”), so I did it! 🏋🏽‍♂️AT HOME COMBO— I believe I took a virtual workout class this day, and here was a fun full body combo we did! The college basement workout aesthetic always makes me laugh. 🏋🏽‍♂️PULL UPS— Nothing to say here except pull ups are so hard. 🏋🏽‍♂️HEEL ELEVATED LANDMINE SQUATS— I saw this move on Instagram so of course gave it a try. I struggled to get under the bar lol and then lowkey hated the move, but I’m proud of myself for trying something new! 🏋🏽‍♂️BENCH BURNOUT— We like to finish our benching sessions with a burnout, so we put 25s on either side and go until failure. Usually I can get around 8-10 but depends on the day.

Supersets! I love supersets, especially for shoulder or arm training. While I don’t recommend training supersets all the time if your main goal is hypertrophy, I believe they are an important thing to include in training for many reasons. They help build endurance and conditioning, and for someone who really hates traditional cardio this can be a huge help. They can give you an amazing pump, they work well with people who have a limited time to workout, they can help you switch up your workouts if you’re getting bored or feeling stagnant, and last but not least, they are fun. We all are in the gym to get better but this is supposed to be fun, healthy, and therapeutic, so never lose sight of that. One reason I incorporate them mostly into shoulder and arm training is that most of the movement are so similar you can head into the next exercise with just a simply change in the arm path. For example with shoulders you can do lateral raises and head right into rear delt flys or front raises and with biceps you can do a traditional dumbbell curl and change to a hammer curl with ease. Try a superset in your next workout and see if you like it. After watching this video I was only focused on my lose skin on my arms flapping up and down. We all have things about our bodies that our eyes go to in pictures or videos. I had to stop myself from going down the ugly spiral of why do I do what I do this lose skin won’t go away unless I have surgery. I’ve lost a lot of weight and what comes with that is lose skin. What helps me is not watching the video or looking at the pic for awhile. Not deleting it either. Going back to it as wow I’m working hard, I’m strong, look what my body can do. Trying to focus less on the lose skin my eye will still go there but my mind will be much more prepared. #FORMCHECKFRIDAY: The Pin Squat 👇 The pin squat is a supplemental squat that slows down the squat descent--like a tempo squat--and breaks up the stretch reflex out of the bottom--like a paused squat or box squat. It reinforces the importance of establishing the back angle quickly during the descent, and punishes if the bar path is forward. It rewards the correct back angle and bar path. Pin squats require the lifter to slow the descent, taking time to set the back angle and to touch the bar to both pins at the same time. This requires an intentional descent and can help show a lifter that the bar is not parallel to the ground if one side consistently touches before the other. Consider the pin squat to help address squat errors and strengthen your squat. Follow these steps 🔻 -Pins set to allow proper depth when bar is on pins at bottom of squat -Bar on rear delts -Same setup as regular squat -Big breath -Stay tight -Go slow -Knees out & hips back -Gently touch pins with a minor pause -Keep weight on back not on pins -Maintain held breath -Fire hips up and bar up together -Maintain midfoot balance SUBSCRIBE: Link in bio!

#FORMCHECKFRIDAY: The Negative Chin Up 👇 The negative chin up is used to help people attain their first bodyweight chin up. The concentric (up) portion is completed with a jump. For the eccentric (down) portion of the chin up, the lifter slowly lowers down, training the full range of motion under control. We suggest training the chin-up twice per week, alternating negatives and assisted chin-ups. Keep the reps challenging enough (by adding a pause at the top, or aiming for up to a 4 second eccentric) to only be able to do 4-6 reps for 3 sets. Follow these steps 🔻 -Palms facing you -Feet on ground or stable surface - Bend knees until arms are straight -Jump to get chin over the bar -Pause at the top if you can -Slowly lower yourself down -Take about 3 seconds to lower yourself down until arms are straight -Legs slightly forward -Tight abs Gym Shorts videos provide short video demonstrations of correct form for various exercises. #FORMCHECKFRIDAY What Is the Football Bar Press & Why Do It? 👏 🎬 Pressing overhead with the Football Bar, or Swiss Bar, allows the wrists to be in a neutral or more neutral position than a normal barbell. It does this over a range of potential grip widths. This exercise serves as a press supplemental lift for most lifters, providing greater variety for intermediate and advanced lifters. One of my favorite ways to do lateral raises. I focus on pushing out and up with my medial delts. I’m not pulling the handles up, I’m pushing them out and up. I also don’t come directly out to the side, but I raise them at an angle, a bit forward. Very controlled and making sure I’m placing a lot of stress on the medial delts.
