Our mentality towards cardio/conditioning has changed over the years in this sport. The benefits far outweigh just overall health. It's designed to improve the function of the heart so that blood flow is improved, which will allow for more efficient use of oxygen in the blood. This then can lead to - Increased recovery between session - Increased recovery between sets - Decrease/limit body fat increases - Improve immune system (less days are due to illness) - Helps to manage/regulate stress Though we still need to be specific in how we program our conditioning/cardio. Walking/hitting a minimum step count per day is a great place to start for most lifters/people who haven’t been exposed too much conditioning work before.
20-40 minutes low to moderate intensity is more than enough for what we need. There's two places in this world where I feel most at home, where my heart is held and my soul happy. The first place, as most of you would guess, is in the gym. I've always been active, not sporty, but generally active, from cycling, to running, to yoga, to horse riding, to just being on the go outside. The gym gives me that peace of mind when my mind is too much, getting me out of my head and into my body, it's where I've met all of the friends I have today, it's where I fit. The second place most wouldn't guess unless they know me a bit more, and that's on the yard with my horses. I've been around horses since before I can remember, they've been my solace, my escape from the rest of the world, the home to my heart. Again, it's a level of peace that I find in this space, with those familiar smells and sounds, the soothing process of everything I do with my horses, the connection you form with another being. I think it's so important for us to have places like this in our life, to have somewhere that brings us peace, comfort, and familiarity. The places we go when nothing else makes sense, where we're held in that environment. I'm curious, where feels like a second home to you? Where do yo find your comfort?

Hey everyone! 🌟 Reflecting on the April 2024 competition at @powerlifting_series, I want to share four core lessons from my journey as a 49-year-old entrepreneur, powerlifter, and creative coach navigating life's ups and downs: 🏋️‍♀️🎯Goal Setting and Achievement🏋️‍♀️🎯 The competition was a true test of the specific goals I had set for myself: Enjoy it more than not🔥. Training under the watchful eye of my coach @vincentcheungpt, who instilled the techniques and confidence needed to compete, helped me channel my stress into something positive. His guidance was invaluable, transforming pressure into progress. 💪🧠 thanks Vinny! 👫🤗Community and Support👫🤗 The vibrant atmosphere of the competition, beautifully captured by @motion.masters and @odysseystrength, and the camaraderie with fellow lifters like @markliftstoo (who also captures our moments in art as @markdrawstoo), enriched my experience. The support from @kevinkfitz during warm-ups, coaxing me out of my hiding corner with a laugh, and shared lunches with Tara, Luke, Solomon, Shane, and everyone at Saturday's training, enhanced not just my physical strength but my heart as well. 🏆THESE MOMENTS CAPTURED🏆 What made my first powerlifting comp so different from bodybuilding is the commaderie. Yes, everyone is there to compete against everyone else, but mainly, you're competing against yourself to lift the heaviest YOU can and perform the best on the day. I couldn't be more chuffed with coming 2nd place in my first comp! Powerlifting is something I'd love to pursue now and I want to be the best I can be. Meet recap for Eric @ericw98 at the USAPL Concha Classic @lift.atx We had some back issues last year with Eric. However he was able to communicate and stay focused enough to get a 9/9 day on meet day. With squats we knew we had 407 in the tank. Just wanted to make sure no back flare ups or nerves got us. So an easy jump from 385 to 407 for our third. Lifetime PR here. For bench we went conservative as I was not sure how it gonna show up as we had a couple rough weeks on bench as we were finishing prep. Luckily he regrouped on meet day and smoked 270 with probably 281 in the tank. Deadlifts moved all prep and besides a hiccup about two weeks out I knew we had something. 440 moved for a smoke show. Proceeded to load 474 for an easy third with about ten more pounds on it. Eric’s first 9/9 meet, 522kg total improving on his last by about 120lbs. Eric is one of my more quieter clients but that hasn’t stopped him from being accountable and communicating about his training. We’ve finally found a scheme that works for Eric and his schedule. Just goes to show you can improve just training 3 days a week. For now it’s just wash, rinse, repeat and adjust accordingly. Getting ready to compete for your first meet ? Coppa Italia Fiap 🔥🔥🔥 Dopo due anni sono finalmente tornato a gareggiare in @federazioneita.atleticapesante per una gara completa. Mi ritengo soddisfatto per il risultato ottenuto su squat e stacco, nella panca piana purtroppo c'è ancora TANTISSIMO da migliorare. Squat 160-170-180kg tutte valide ✅ Bench press 90-90-95 valida solo la seconda Deadlift 210-220 valide ✅ 230 non valide ❌ ma conto di chiuderli alla prossima gara. Totale sollevato 490kg, 100kg in più rispetto alla mia ultima gara completa. Il ringraziamento più grande come sempre va a @coach_andrea_strength perché in pedana non si è MAI da soli. La mia dolce metà @sara_pl_trainer per il tifo e supporto sfrenato e i video di tutte le alzate. La gara completa è la migliore occasione per mettersi in gioco e crescere osservando atleti più avanzati e cercando di mantere il giusto mindset per arrivare concentrati a fine gara. How many reps and sets should you be doing? There are a lot of things to consider when determining this, the nice thing is if you are training for muscle growth the most important factor is that you are training at or near failure. This typically means doing your first sets and leaving one or two reps in reverse and then grinding out the last set to near or at failure. If you are training for purely strength then lifting in rep ranges of 1-5 will be ideal. The total amount of sets per week will be around 20 for most people. However, if you are able to recover well and are an advanced lifter you could bump that number up to as high as 30.
