✨ Happy Thursday Lovelies ✨ • How are you all doing lovelies? How does going back to regular life after such a wonderful long weekend look like? 🫠 • 🍂 Seriously, didn’t want to go back to work; and have actually been sneaking in some reading while still at work. Do you do that too; or am I the only one? 🫣 • 📖: The Girl Who Kept Falling In Love by Rheea Mukherjee @rheealization ✨ #FWMusings - Book Review ✨ • This beautiful book is you and me - and all of us because it talks about how being in love or falling in love or being loved is such an important aspect of being validated and accepted. • Our protagonist, Kaya, could have been me - especially as a renege; who keeps finding her sense of self; her sense of worth when she finds herself falling in love. • With a background of protests, humanitarian crisis and feminism on one side and falling in love over and over again on the other side; makes up who she actually is. • When you read about Kaya, her thoughts and opinions may seem like they are an individualistic indicator but it doesn’t take long for the reader to recognise themselves in her. I know I did. • The author has done a commendable job of weaving Kaya’s life with themes too protests, activism liberalism, cultures and communities while making us understand that Kaya could be you, could be me and could be anyone ever know or have known. • My Rating ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ • Huge thanks to @penguinindia for sending across a #gifted copy for review 🙌 • #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #booksbooksbooks #bookworm #books #thegirlwhokeptfallinginlove #rheeamukherjee #penguinindia #indianfiction #indianblogger #indianliterature #bookishlove #bookcover #bookdragon #bookishfeatures #booknerd #booknerd #booklovers

The Girl Who Kept Falling in Love by Rheea Mukherjee The excessive self-pity and constant viewing of people through a class-caste-religion lens make the protagonist, Kaya, so shallow that after a point, it becomes difficult to search for the “goodness” in her. So even though I had been reading about her love life since she was a teenager, I still found it impossible to see her as a complete person – what exactly are her goals other than the half-hearted social activist posturing? Kaya’s selfishness and narrow-mindedness aside, it is truly horrifying to think that everything is indeed up for sale – the enemy only has to quote the right price. What especially infuriated me about Kaya was here she was, almost 40 and yet incapable of authenticity – be it as a lover, friend, or citizen. Kaya is called a “girl” as opposed to a “woman”, perhaps to show she has been emotionally stagnant for the better part of her life – and I felt the same way about the book. The Girl Who Kept Falling in Love takes its chances to unpack contemporary Indians and make sense of a certain way of being and thinking. But a half-original storyline and an unlikeable protagonist do not deliver a punch, only a limp blow. #thegirlwhokeptfallinginlove #rheeamukherjee #fiction #igbooks #igreads #bookblog #bookstagram #bookreview #booksofinstagram #booksofig #goodreads

SOLD The Body Myth. Rheea Mukherjee. Hard Cover. Near New condition. Swipe for video. Limited Edition Sample Copy. Price- Rs 199 plus shipping. A brilliant bold and original debut of a brave new voice. The Body Myth is such a smart and complex exploration of what it means to be in a body in the world, what it means to be in a body that is ill, and what it means to be in a body in love. And like all of those states of being, the book is filled with ambiguity and contradictions. Los Angeles Review of Books The Body Myth is full of questions, about our bodies and minds, about mental illness, about the history of trauma, and about the depths of friendship and love. LA Times Mukherjee's novel encapsulates the heady breathlessness of falling in love. Publishers Weekly Mira is a teacher living in the heart of Suryam, the only place in the world the fickle Rasagura fruit grows. Mira lives alone, and with only the French existentialists as companions, until the day she witnesses a beautiful woman having a seizure in the park. Mira runs to help her but is cautious, for she could have sworn the woman looked around to see if anyone was watching right before the seizure began. Mira is quickly drawn into the lives of this mysterious woman Sara, who suffers a myriad of unexplained illnesses, and her kind, intensely supportive husband Rahil, striking up intimate, volatile and fragile friendships with each of them that quickly become something more. #thebodymyth #rheeamukherjee #books #bookstore #booksbooksbooks #bookworm #bookstagram #booksale #bookstagrammer #booklovers #vintagebooks #rarebooks #bestsellers #bookworm #novel #novels #fiction #fictionbook #hardcover #hardcoverbooks

Im currently reading The Body Myth by Rheea Mukherjee and cuddling in bed con mi nueva emotional support squishmallow Caballita 🐴💘🏡😇 ○ ○ ○ "Heartbreak only comes from expectation. (...) Heartbreak comes in waves." Quiero mucho a Mira. 9.3/10 ○ ○ ○ #bookofthemonth #bookwormsofinstagram #thebodymyth #RheeaMukherjee #squishmallow

The Body Myth leaves too many questions unanswered- What is the relevance of Rasagura? What makes you "too special to feel awkward"? Why on earth is Mira not going to a shrink? All these and more. Yet this book makes me feel for the characters. Even while leaving me wanting for more, this novel is one I cannot go back to reading again. What is it about some stories that leave the reader forlorn and miserable? . . . #thebodymyth #rheeamukherjee #debutnovels #womenwriting #indianwriters #womenwritingfiction #indianwomenauthors #fictionbywomen #indianauthors #indiannovel #indianenglishliterature #indianenglishwriting #penguinbooks #lovetriangle #lovestories #munchausensyndrome #bookblogger #bookrecommendation #bookreview #booksofinstagram #bookstagrammer #bookstagram #indianbookstagram #indianbookstagrammer #indianbooks #storiesthatstay #fiction #debutnovel #mentalhealth #unconventionalstories

Contemporary fiction. A young widow in the city of Suryam in India witnesses a beautiful woman having a seizure in a park, and ends up drawn into a relationship with the woman and her husband. I picked up the book because of the unconventional relationship at its core, but it also has some things to say about the different paths that can lead beyond normative convention – for the viewpoint character, that in part is her reading of dead Western philosophers, thinkers, and writers; for the other woman in the relationship, it is her take on Sufi mysticism; for the man in the relationship, it is his connection to the two women. And it is fundamentally, I think, a book about intense, painful loneliness, and the ways that the drive to connect can pull us in transgressive directions, normative directions, or both. Spent much of the book deeply uncertain how I felt about it. It seemed very invested in psychologizing everything, and it felt like it was leaving little space to read the characters’ choices and ways of relating with one another as anything other than pathological – not that the author necessarily meant to do that, but it was certainly how it hit me early in the book. I also was never quite sure what to do with the clear unreliability of the narrator, though I appreciated the effective portrayal of both her grief from the earlier loss of her husband and her searingly intense plunge into need and love during the story. Ultimately, I ended up in the ‘thumbs up’ camp. The way the book concludes is not any sort of simplistic happy ending, but it captures the complexity of their situation and seems to have much more space for not just its dysfunction but also its joy and okay-ness in a way that seems lacking earlier in the book...and in a way that perhaps implicitly explains that earlier lack. Soooo...yeah. Ultimately liked it, but I still feel a certain ambivalence about it. #book #bookstagram #booklover #bookstagrammer #bookish #novel #fiction #bookreview #novelreview #nonmonogamy #rheeamukherjee #thebodymyth

Rainy or sunny days? #thebodymyth #rheeamukherjee The plot is a mess. But it pulled me in successfully in this mess with its engaging writing style. The characters are too messed up. Their lives so messed up that there's no coming back out of this tangled mess. It is an adult contemporary dealing with adult relationships, grief and mental health, lgbt, Munchausen Syndrome. These issues have been handled well in the sense that the characters and the situations they were involved in were realistic but also these issues haven't been handled well when things get a bit abrupt and insensitive in between. *What I liked most: The stimulative writing style dealing with these complicated-realistic characters who are adults not actually figuring out life completely (as is always is!). The various relationships (from the past as well as the present) an adult has to deal with have been portrayed with honesty. The whole story is dark, twisted and complicated. I got high with the interweaving memories and the present narration mixed with both sweetness and bitterness. I liked the first half of the book for all its madness and sadness. The second half was a bit dull and it tried to explain all the mess that happened in the first half. It's at this later part of the book that the characters seemed to take things too easy and they start seeming too pretentious. I would like to say the second half was a bit haphazard and random and too abrupt with the ending. It didn't end well at all. It looked so rushed up and a big hole was left just like that the whole time and then it was like after discussing about this big hole, this hole was there never to be taken seriously. The whole mess wasn't handled well at all in the end. *What I felt were the weakest parts: The whole story tried to explain so much about Munchausen Syndrome but it was not handled well at all and it got wrapped up like it didn't matter at all in the end. Abrupt introduction of random characters who didn't matter much disrupted the flow. The characters seem too tired to feel or do anything most of the time (well, it's relatable but sometimes it feels like the characters didn't want to be in the story). (3/5 🌟)

Come to our workshop! 22nd September, 10 am, Atta Galatta. @messycooking_alwaysvegan and I have some extra fun stuff planned, no matter what your genre and plan and style! Good Writer/Bad Writer A creative writing workshop that explores the notion of 'good' writing & writing in your own voice. What does it mean, to be a 'good' writer? How do you know? Even critics don't always agree on what makes a writer, so how can we evaluate for ourselves? As writers and readers, we all align with certain genres, styles, and approaches to writing. Some of us enjoy popular literature, while others roll their eyes at it. What makes popular fiction popular? What makes Literature with a capital 'L'? This 4 hour workshop will have us exploring all sides of writing and figuring out what our craft of writing can mean for our voices mean. We’ll bend stereotypes, find love in places where we are taught to hate, and do some very fun and probing writing exercises. Cost: 2,000 INR (coffee and snacks + workshop materials inclusive) Tickets: http://www.eventshigh.com/detail/Bangalore/8e8364190aa27c3931da005747361f3a?src=ehm #writingworkshop #literatureworkshop #AttaGalatta #rheeamukherjee

Book 146 of 2019. My companion this weekend. #TheBodyMyth by #RheeaMukherjee This is an odd book. But I like odd books, so its fine. It's all good. Mira, a young widow still grappling with the death of her husband, gets involved with a married couple- Rahil & Sara. The wife who is sick, with an unnamed, undiagnosed condition and the husband who is seemingly devoted. I am half way through and fairly intrigued. My shrink self was screaming Munchausen from chapter one itself and so much in this book appeals to my psychology loving heart. Also, books about relationships, especially complicated ones are some of my favourite things to read. Talking about this book and other reading plans on the blog. The Body Myth by Rheea Mukherjee. Thanks to @vivekisms for the copy. The Body Myth is the story of Mira, for whom pain is a constant counterpart. Mira grows without knowing a happy mother, leaving a void in her. Mira is given another void when she loses her husband in less than a year of her marriage. Mira copes up to this loss with the help of books by Western philosophers. And then on a fine day she walks into a relationship which builds a new life for her. The Body Myth is the story of Sara. Sara has many dimensions and to pin her down to one characteristic will not be fair. She is the essential concept, which acts as a cog in the new relationship. The Body Myth is the story of Rahil, who doesn’t get much of page-space but essentially is the rock in the relationship; the one who can hold back all that is falling apart. Together they give rise to a relationship which, as the story goes, does not stand the test of time. The story can be interpreted as the resurrection of two ladies. However, the title of the story forces us to assume that the book explores the importance of bodies in relationships and tries to dispel the myth that they are necessary. This perspective is emphasized by the actions of Samina, whose youth tries to invalidate societal norms. The initial part of the book is mysterious and woven around illness. Though the mystery reveals as the pages turn, it is never completely revealed, or so the characters deem. Supported by excellent writing, The Body Myth tries to take on a relationship which has never been explored. The book tries to blur the boundaries made by the society but the basic emotions, which have no boundaries, prevail. However, it isn’t the relationship which catches the attention but the mysteriousness which keeps you hooked, hoping that it will be solved. As the last page is turned, a haze remains; the mind asks questions but all that can be done is to sigh. While the author has crafted an excellent story with generous additions of spiritualism and mysticism, the haziness at the end can make a reader feel incomplete. Overall, a great book to taste.

Ok, stop whatever you’re doing right now and go order this book! The Body Myth by Rheea Mukherjee is one of the most beautiful stories I’ve read in the recent years.⠀ ⠀ The writing is poetic, layered and nuanced, in a language that’s easy to understand. The characters, the setting, the storyline... there’s enough newness to them to make them interesting, but they’re also very easy to relate to.⠀ ⠀ The author is a master of making people see situations and emotions from multiple points of view. The book challenges our limited world view, every step on the way. You can’t help but fall in love with the characters and all their unique flaws and strengths.⠀ ⠀ In person, Rheea @messycooking_alwaysvegan is one of the least judgemental people you’ll cross paths with. She holds space for not so run-off-the-mill concepts and ideas with a welcoming mind. This comes through in her writing.⠀ ⠀ And as far as Indian English authors go, her writing style is extremely refreshing. She doesn’t promote stereotypes about India, nor is she overly descriptive. Regardless of your cultural background, you will feel at home in the story of The Body Myth and are bound to find something you relate to.⠀ ⠀ If you’ve already read the book, or if you read it after seeing this post, I’d love to discuss it with you. Do share your thoughts on it.

Book Review: . The Body Myth by Rheea Mukherjee is about a teacher named Mira who was struck by tragedy early in life. She deals with it by reading, teaching, and spending time with her father. One day, she goes to the park and witnesses a woman having a seizure. She doesn’t know this mysterious woman, but she runs to her aide. The story begins from there. Mira begins to stray away from her usual quiet life and follows a reckless path of love, pain, and mystery with two strangers she met in the park. Throughout the book, Mira explores moments of her past and present as she experiences a life she never saw herself living. This book also explores the many sides of grief and love as she discovers things about herself and others around her. The Body Myth allows the reader to take a peek at a touching and personal life story that will leave you wanting to know more. I finished reading The Body Myth by Rheea Mukherjee few days back and have since been trying to write an honest review for the same. But frankly, this book has me divided in my opinion. While starting with this work, we are advised by the author, or cautioned if you prefer, to take the story as one would take a large pill and rightly so. The writer’s style is impressive and you can’t help but falling in love with it so much so that the book becomes unputdownable. You start reading and the characters become so vivid that you can almost visualize them, envisaging in your mind the scenes and the dialogues as you read along. ............... ✨GIVEAWAY & BOOK REVIEW✨ WINNERS: @sinipappa @chapteronethesoul @mera.karyouti - Congratulations!! ♥️ I love reading stories about relationships, what about you? THE BODY MYTH by Indian American author Rheea Mukherjee was a vividly told story of a polyamorous relationship between Mira, a young widow, and Rahul and Sara, a young married couple. I would recommend this novel if you’re looking for a story that is also a deep meditation on grief, loss, family, philosophy and the human body and mind. I’ve teamed up with @unnamedpress to give away three personalized and signed copies of THE BODY MYTH! To enter, follow @sumaiyya.books and @unnamedpress, like this photo and tell me the name of the city where you live! OPEN INTERNATIONALLY, last date to enter is April 1. Participants should have parental permission to share their address if they’re under 18 years of age. Not affiliated with Instagram. . THE BODY MYTH was an absolute delight to read. Mira randomly meets Rahul and Sara and is immediately drawn to the pair. The closer she gets to the couple, the more her own struggles and story unravels. Adding intrigue to the storyline is Sara’s illness-ridden body; it is a suffering that is psychological with physical manifestations. Sara’s illness adds complications to the dynamic the three individuals share. Their story is set in the fictional Indian city of Suryam where the fruit rasagura grows. I wished there was more depth to the fruit, since it was so specifically mentioned in the blurb I assumed it would have a deeper meaning in the story. Overall, an excellent read that has introduced me to a new author I would love to read more of.
