J’ai toujours vu de bons / très bons avis sur ce livre et comme souvent quand je me lance dans un Lumen de ce genre, je n’ai pas beaucoup d’inquiétudes. Et ben je ne pensais pas si bien dire puisque ce premier tome a été un vrai COUP DE CŒUR 🖤 ! J’ai adoré les personnages de Kell et Lila auxquels je me suis de suite attachée ! Lila représente tout ce que j’aime dans les personnages féminins et Kell fait un bookboyfriend parfait. La romance s’il y en a une est finement dosée, du vrai YA, sans vulgarité et sans scène de 🍑. L’univers et l’idée des différents Londres 🏴 représentés par différentes couleurs et systèmes de magie est absolument génial ! J’ai été embarqué dès la découverte des différentes villes et j’espère en savoir plus dans les prochains tomes. J’ai de suite été happée par l’intrigue, les scènes d’action, de combats et les rebondissements vont bon train. Pas moyen de s’ennuyer, ça se lit super vite et c’est haletant du début à la fin 🫨. ENG: A Darker Shade of Magic I was in need of a fantasy book which I could devour in a weekend, and this proved to be the perfect candidate! This universe encompasses four different Londons that function like parallel worlds, stacked on top of one another. Kell, the main character, is one of the few people who can travel between them. I really liked the world building and the workings of the magic in this book. It is not too complex and somewhat predictable, but I feel like it works well for a 300 page novel. Usually I would feel frustrated from the lack of romance, but I feel like Kell and Lila’s relationship makes sense as it is at this point since they have known each other for a few days. It definitively has room to grow in the following instalments 👀. The writing is not as poetic as in Addie LaRue, but I expected that since this is one of V E Schwab’s first series. It is a solid 4⭐️ for me! • Which London would you like visiting? . . PT: Um Encontro de Sombras Estava a precisar de um livro de fantasia que pudesse devorar num fim de semana, e este provou ser o candidato perfeito! ✨BOOK REVIEW✨ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 💙 What do you have a favorite sequel? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Long distance pining, brotherly bonds, and magical tournaments - just a few of my favorite things. 😍 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ A Gathering Shadows is such an amazing sequel to an already amazing series. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ It was a lot slower than I expected it to be, but I actually love that about it most. Having more time to focus on the characters and their dynamics to not only each other, but the world at large helped keep the story fun and exciting. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ While I am always partial to plenty of fight scenes, V.E. Schwab did not skimp on the action. The internal conflicts were plenty captivating, and I did spend the majority of the book just absolutely drowning in feels. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I especially liked getting to spend more time with Kell and Rhy, seeing their sibling relationship in both the raw moments and the chaotic ones. There is always something so funny about watching siblings in media. Probably because I’m a younger sibling and know the absolute chaos we can cause lool. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Oh, I can’t neglect to mention the Essen Tasche, aka, magical tournament, at the end. The whole book pretty much builds us up to the tournament which is very satisfying by the time we get there. I love me a good magic tournament. Ugh, and the cliff hanger ending? Let me tell you, I’ve never been more glad in my LIFE to have the next book on my shelf. Did I stay up to till three in the morning? Yes. Shut up. ✨BOOK REVIEW✨ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 💙 What is your most beloved book series? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The Shades of Magic series is one of the major books I talk about with an unbridled amount of chaos and enthusiasm, and for good reason, too. I found these book during a low point in my life, and they really helped pull me back into writing and believing in magic again. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Needless to say, when V.E. Schwab announced she was coming out with not only another book in the series, but a complete second trilogy, set 7 years post A Conjuring Light, it was the only thing on my mind until I got my little chaos gremlin hands on it. Speaking of which, HUGE thanks to @torbooks for sending me a finished copy to devour. (It isn’t this one though, this is the special edition from @illumicrate that I thankfully got, which I am also eternally grateful for.) ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Anyway, I can certainly say this book is amazing. It was a bit slower than I anticipated, and I struggled a little through the middle, but it was still such a great addition to the overall story. I enjoyed getting to meet the tinkerer, Tes, and her adorable little bone owl, Vares. Her ability to not only see, but manipulate, the threads of magic had me enthralled from the beginning to the end. Even more so, when her threads got wrapped up within Kell and Lila’s. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Speaking of which, getting to see the original cast (Kell, Lila, Alucard, and Rhy) once more made me absolutely squeal with joy. I cannot tell you how many pink page tabs I have in this book of moments I screamed, cried, and jumped for joy at. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ While the plot wasn’t as action-packed as I’m used to from V.E. Schwab, she still did an amazing job as ever with the fight scenes that had me on the edge of my seat. My most recent full-series read!! Book(s): A Darker Shade of Magic, A Gathering of Shadows, A Conjuring of Light Author(s): V. E. Schwab This thrilling, magical, and addicting trilogy follows Kell and Lila, two magicians who can travel between four extremely different worlds; red, grey, white, and black London. Kell, Lila and Co. must save their world from a dangerous source of dark magic or risk losing everything. This is one of the most magical fantasy books I’ve read in a long time and…I’ve read a LOT of fantasy! Schwab’s writing and storytelling were strangely addicting in the best way possible. I raced through all three books and by COL I was desperate for more. What I loved most about this series was how emotion-provoking it was on so many levels. The writing was humorous, emotional, and (at some points) downright devastating. This series is a must-read if you love books full of emotional roller-coasters because that’s definitely what this felt like. Also important to note that I did not end the series hating the two main characters, which is, sadly, something I feel a lot after finishing a longer series. The characters were amazing, and so were their voices and their flaws. (I LOVE THEM SM AGSVSAKJFHLAKSHFLAJS.) (Unserious note: I love these characters the same way I love the Six of Crows characters because of the vibes. Do what you will with that information.) De stad om haar heen draaide een kwartslag, de zwaartekracht kantelde en de wereld verdween. ~ 📖 Ik ben echt benieuwd naar "De breekbare draden van magie"! Hebben jullie deze serie al gelezen? ✨️ 'De kleuren van licht’ vervulde al mijn verwachtingen, en misschien zelfs nog dat tikkeltje meer. Bij het eerste deel merkte je al meteen dat dit verhaal enorm avontuurgericht zou gaan uitdraaien. Je wordt gesmeten van de ene queeste naar de andere en geen enkel moment raak je verveeld. ‘De kleuren van schaduw’ was dan meer personagegericht wat ook heel erg boeiend was om te lezen. ‘De kleuren van licht’ daarentegen was een combinatie van beiden. Je valt van het ene avontuur in het andere, maar daarnaast wordt er nóg dieper ingegaan op bepaalde personages, zoals Holland. Oh wat was ik blij dat Holland meer aandacht kreeg in dit boek. Hij was zó’n interessant personage dat ik echt benieuwd was naar zijn verhaal, en dat kregen we. Heel wat personages maakten een grote persoonlijke groei mee, terwijl dat bij anderen niet zo was. Zo leek het alsof sommige personages onder de loep genomen werden om bladzijden te vullen. Het stoorde mij absoluut niet, maar het viel op dat heel wat personages op de oppervlakte bleven (zelfs hoofdpersonage Kell jammer genoeg). ✨️Book Review ✨️ A Gathering of Shadows by V.E.Schwab Re-read ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ What a girl gotta do to get Kell's jacket??? Oh, how it would be wonderful to own that! Another re-read. This book has a little bit of the middle book syndrome, it wasn't so much plot-driven. It had more character growth and we needed that too. However, it ends with cliffhanger. But I know what's going to happen in the third book, so I didn't mind. I forgot about Alucard, I don't know how. He is so beautiful. This book was more about Lila's growth, how she discovers herself, and what she can do. I love how badass she is. She just doesn't care. "𝑰 𝒌𝒏𝒐𝒘 𝒘𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒆 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒔𝒍𝒆𝒆𝒑, 𝑩𝒂𝒓𝒅." 𝑺𝒉𝒆 𝒔𝒎𝒊𝒓𝒌𝒆𝒅. January is almost over, but before that, here's my first illustration for 2024. I'd been teasing about this one and sharing WIPs for a while, so I'm really happy I can finally call it done and get to share it with you! Delilah Bard was a force of nature. The world hadn’t simply opened for her. It had been cleaved, parted like skin beneath her knife. She was incredible. “Has anyone told you,” he said, “that you’re gorgeous when you fight?” -The Fragile Threads of Power by V.E.Schwab When reading this scene, and thinking about a fun way to illustrate it, I couldn't help but think of Princess Mononoke and that iconic "You're beautiful" moment, so that one was my original inspiration for this comp, but ofc it changed/evolved and before I realized, I was looking through Craig Mullins' work trying to figure out how to suggest a ship, and ocean waves and crew, for a background I had never intended in the first place. Las year I was very lucky to receive amazing feedback on my work so far from Jehan Choo @jehandraws , and it played a huge part in how I dealt with this comp. It's very hard to let go of old habits, even if they are no longer serving us, but I hope the steps I'm taking are headed in the right direction. All in all, it was quite the journey! ＢＯＯＫ ＲＥＶＩＥＷ Title: A Conjuring of Light Author: V.E. Schwab Pages: 624 Published: February 2017 Rating: 3.9/4.0 I finally finished the Shades of Magic series! It might have taken me a long time, but I enjoyed the journey. A Conjuring of Light is the most political book in the Shades of Magic series. The combination of the political plot lines with a quest element was entertaining. However, the plot dragged at times making it feel to long. The pacing picked up at the end, and the final chapters were satisfying. My favourite aspect of this series is the sibling relationship between Kell and Rhy. It is complex, but full of love and affection. In general, the characters are well-written, multidimensional characters, but in this instalment the characterisation of the villain, Holland, impressed me. I suddenly felt sympathy for him. The world building was also well-done. There were new elements to the magic system both in terms of magical abilities as well as new applications of magic. Due to the (global) politics and the quest, the world was expanded outside of world we knew in the previous instalments. In conclusion, A Conjuring of Light is a satisfying conclusion to a trilogy. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A Darker Shade of Magic V.E. Schwab Schwab has a genius to her writing of detail in a way that doesn’t overdo it but enables the reader to become fully emersed in her worlds. Regardless of which character she is speaking of, you feel like you’re seeing through their eyes and just naturally become them. It is the mark of a true story teller. The author takes you into a world of magicians and humans alike, into multiple worlds of London and develops a history and story unlike I’ve ever read. This story is wonderfully original and I hope this stays the theme throughout the series. The first part was a bit slow whilst the author built up the characters but once you understood them, the story takes off and you’ll have a hard time putting the book down. a conjuring of light appreciation💌 i haven’t read a book for so long that i physically can’t bring myself to finish it because i don’t want it to end. everything about this is just perfect to me. this is the last book of the shades of magic trilogy, and i started this series near the end of last year. oh boy, i’m glad i didn’t read it earlier; otherwise, i would have had to wait a long time for the other trilogy set in this universe! this book is nearly 650 pages, and how i wish it was longer. i want to know every silly little detail about the characters in this book. also, dear v.e. schwab, thank you for being my favorite author. loving your work is a part of my personality at this point. p.s. sorry for any possible spoilers i might have given with the quotes from the book, but i couldn’t stop myself from sharing. #veschwabbooks #aconjuringoflight #favbook #shadesofmagic #kellandlila #rhyandalucard

The Shades of Magic series by V.E. Schwab. I finally finished a Conjuring of Light this morning and I honestly don’t even know what to say. It was so incredibly good, definitely my favourite book in the trilogy. Where a Gathering started very slow, a Conjuring of light immediately started with action and drama. That, paired with the short chapters and constant changing pov between characters I adored, made me want to never stop reading. There are not many books where I don’t have a clear favourite character, but this was definitely one of them. I genuinely could not (and still can’t) choose, I love all of them (me fighting the Lila haters: 🤺🤺) and I simply adore everything ve Schwab writes. I cannot wait to read the Fragile Threads of Power but at the same time not ready to say goodbye to this world. We have 3 days left of this year and I’m currently reading Rule of Wolves because I desperately wanted to finish the series before the new year. Holà booksta ✨ Aujourd'hui je vous parle de me dernière lecture :"Shades of Magic " par V.E Schwab ⭐⭐⭐/5 J'avais beaucoup d'attente pour ce livre et j'ai été dessus (j'ai quand même bien aimé hein). J'ai beaucoup aimé le personnage et leur relation , en effet Lila (deuxième protagonistes ) et vraiment archi drôle , elle une psychologie très intéressante et complexe . Kell est quant à lui un personnage plus sombre avec de grandes responsabilités !(trope Grumpy X sunshine ) J'ai bien aimé l'intrigue , quête d'objets , complot ,prise de pouvoir , manipulation ...(ect) J'ai trouvé qu'elle était plutôt bien ficelé . Pour moi le plus grand défaut de ce livre c'est le temps que l'intrigue a mis a s'installer , j'ai aussi Eu du mal a me plonger dans l'intrigue car les enjeux de l'intrigue ne sont pas claires et définie. Le système de magie basé sur les différents Londre est très intéressant, j'ai hâte de mieux le comprendre ! Le livre a mi beaucoup de temps a commencé mais le rythme c'est intensifier ce qui m'a permis de ne pas le dnf. L'écriture de V.E Schwab est toujours aussi belle et poétique ce qui a rendu ma lecture très agréable ! J'ai bien aimé ce livre grâce à ces personnages mais l'intrigue est un peu floue . Book Review 💫 A Conjuring of Light V.E. Schwab This series. This book. I can’t remember the last time I felt so close to a group of characters. V.E. Schwab is one of the most talented writers I’ve had the pleasure of reading. Fantasy has not been my preferred genre for the last 30 years - but Schwab has catapulted me into my fantasy era. This. Kell, az antari - iszonyú menő népség, elég ritkák is - a kék és koromfekete szemével, vérmágiájával, a frankó kis kabátkájával és a mogorvaságával - amit persze le-ledob magáról - lopta be magát a szívembe. Lina szintén, aki cserfes, tarloraesett, bátor, aki a szabadságra és kalandokra vágyik, és akiben biztosan sokkal több lehetőség és meglepetés rejtőzik. Holland, a másik antari is iszonyú izgalmas pasas, kár, hogy egyelőre túl sokat nem szerepelt, és akkor sem volt úgymond önmaga, kiváncsi leszek a karakterére ha kibontakozik. ⚔️❤️ Book Review ⚔️🤍 The Fragile Threads of Power by V.E. Schwab If you have read our previous post about A Darker Shade of Magic then you already know this was a highly anticipated read for the both of us! This book was a great bridge from one series into the next, connecting both our beloved characters with some new faces and many new adventures. While we both thoroughly enjoyed this book, it lacked a bit of the magic of the first series. Whether it be just because of all the new characters or the simple length of this book, we both took a while to read this. At parts this book felt its length, and Schwab would spend long periods of time in one storyline which got kind of stale after a while. But you do expect that with a new series in an established world; there is a certain amount of character building that has to happen. Schwab herself has talked extensively about this in interviews that it's just how she writes her books so it’s not surprising. It was also confusing at certain parts which storyline was which because two of the characters felt very similar. The real highlight was the scenes with the original characters. They were simply magical and did a great job of staying in line with who they are while still allowing them to evolve. Of the original characters, it felt like Kell grew and changed the most as he got to discover the world on his own without the pressure from the crown sitting over his head. Particularly as he struggled to navigate the world without his magic and you see his battle with being normal 🥺 Schwab also did a wonderful job of highlighting big moments over the 7 years that we had missed. The flashbacks were a particular favorite along with the ending! By the last 25% it was much harder to put the book down as it really picked up! We can honestly say we did not see that ending coming and its a good cliffhanger for the rest of the series! Regardless, it is still a fantastic book and we are super excited to read the next two books, even though it will probably be at least two years before Threads 2 comes out 😅 -🌻🩵

A gathering of shadows je drugi del v seriji The shades of magic in povsem dosega nivo prvega dela, kar ni enostavna naloga. Spet spremljamo Lilo in Kella, vsakega na svojem koncu istega Londona. Lila je se vedno najboljsa tatica in s tem pomemben clen piratske odprave. Kell pa se vedno stoji ob strani princu Rhyu (sori, vedno sem prebrala Rhys, ker ACOTAR in nadaljevanja pac naredijo svoje z mozgani bralk), trpi svoje muke in je nasploh idealen moody lik. Shades of magic T.1 V. E. Schwab @lumeneditions ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️,5/5 Enfin j'ai mis le nez dans cette saga et comme toujours avec cette auteure, c'est un GRAND oui ! Il faut dire que Schwab nous compose encore une fois la bonne recette. - une plume magnifique - une belle creativité avec un univers dense et immersif - une aventure épique - des personnages incroyables Je ne me lasse pas de l'imagination dont elle fait preuve pour créer ses histoires, le petit plus qu'on ne retrouve qu'avec elle et puis j'ai un nouvel amoureux : Kell. 😝 Pour les personnages j'ai eu un réel coup de coeur. D'abord Kell, dernier magicien de sang de son monde, il est puissant, intrigant et follement attachant. Sa rencontre avec Lila, voleuse intrépide et aventurière va faire basculer leurs deux destins. Et ces deux personnalités si différentes vont donner des situations et des dialogues drôles au possible. Ce duo est génial. Je vous laisse regarder les citations en swipe qui donne un bel aperçu de la personnalité de Lila. Pépite ! Pour ce qui est du worldbuilding nous sommes sur un système de mondes parallèles, notamment ici on se concentre sur une ville. Book Review #142 WOW. Just wow. I never wanted it to end and the way it ended…well let’s just say I didn’t expect that. Unfortunately…it ended on a cliffhanger so here I patiently sit waiting for the next book… and considering this book just came out a couple weeks ago, and the author is still on her book tour, I will be waiting a while. Regardless, if you have not started this series, stop what you’re doing, drop the book you’re currently reading and begin it because let me tell you I haven’t come across, a series of books like this. ⚔️The Fragile Threads of Power Review ⚔️Rating: 5 (million) ⭐ ⚔️I was extremely lucky to have received an ARC of this book and it was honestly a bit of a screaming, crying, throwing up moment when it dropped on my doorstep. But then I felt increasingly nervous about starting this because of the pedestal I have placed the first three books on. It remains one of my favourite ever fantasy series for various reasons and though I have an UNSHAKEABLE faith in V.E. Schwab, I did feel like tiptoeing into Fragile Threads. ⚔️Silly me! I wasn’t even a page in before that warm fuzzy feeling returned and I couldn’t put this down. Given it’s over 600 pages, and it didn’t at all feel that way, I flew through it because of how addictive this story is. ⚔️Our core cast of characters are back and in various stages of their lives after the seven years that’s passed following the events of Conjuring. Lila’s favour gets called in, which kicks off the entire story here and it’s every bit as action-packed and badass as I wanted to be. In Schwab style, there’s also plenty to torture our characters with. ⚔️The story is solid, the characters (original and new additions) shine and the writing is masterful. Schwab really steps up her game in this and you get the feeling this is an author who has sharpened their craft to needlepoint. ⚔️I love this world in all its complex beauty, and this brilliant addition has only reinforced my adoration of this series. 📖 Book Review 📖 A Gathering of Shadows Shades of Magic Book 2 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐/5 ❤️ Magic/Fantasy ❤️ Parallel worlds ❤️ Found family I absolutely love this series (shades of magic by V.E. Schwab) and the second book in the series is definitely my favorite. I love that coming into the second book I have a good understanding of the main characters and where the series is headed but there is so much surprise as well. The magic competition (don't want to give too much away) was amazing to read and it really brought me into the world and brought out my inner child that loved this kind of magic, competition, and performance. We also see more of the "bad guy" let's call him and there is more tension in this book as well because of it. In addition, the characters have a lot of tension among themselves, especially between Kell and Rhy as they learn new things about themselves, their brotherhood, their roles in society, and how they can love and support one another while still living their own lives. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐/5 A Conjuring of Light By: VE Schwab @veschwab Well shit. Schwab is an absolutely brilliant writer. One of the best weaving of POVs I've read. The book could have been written with Holland as the main protagonist. His fight, his sadness, his sacrifice time and time again. What a hell of a character. Rhy and Alucard may be one of my favorite couples ever, and def fav in this series. Their history and why they separated is so sweet and heartbreaking. Ahhh. Their chemistry is absolute perfection. Kell and Rhy's bond and love is just so well done and spot on. The depth of their love for one another goes beyond even what is seen in some romantic loves in other series yet in this one, the family love they have (when they're not even "blood" related) is a true testimony to the importance of the love you choose. Maris as Eartha Kit. That's it. What I love love love about this series - all of them (magic welders)have power but it's different and still similar. The magic system works, even though it's a huge mystery as to how and why it does, I accept that easily. The three Antari are on totally different levels but not so different on level of capabilities. I love that they all had different backgrounds too, I don't know much about music but this is how my mind compared the Antari and musical training- Kell trained classically Holland trained by ear Lila trained by someone that plays a different instrument Bonus - Alucard totally different music There are enough unanswered questions that would allow for a revisit to the series like, Where did Lila's eye come from? What is K.L. ?!?!? We don't have to have the answers to these questions, however when we find out anything to move the story along, the information comes in such a brilliant and organic way. A Conjuring of Light is just FANTASTIC. The Fragile Threads of Power is a fantasy adventure and book one in the Threads of Power series. This book takes place in the Shades of Magic universe and starts 7 years after the ending of A Conjuring of Light. The doors between worlds have been closed and the magical kingdoms are separated. But a young magician with a unique ability might be able to reunite them all This book was an absolutely amazing read!! First of all, I absolutely loved seeing the return of all my favorite characters from the Shades of Magic series - Lila, Alucard, Rhy and of course Kell! It felt like a new story and an extended epilogue at the same time! Seven years has brought a lot to these characters and it wasn’t always sunshine and rainbows - some aspects in their lives were so hard to read but I loved their continued presence and growth Outside of old friends, the new characters were just as engaging! Tes is an intriguing character and I loved what she brought to this world. The world building continued to expand the world of the Shades of Magic and I loved everything about this book! If you couldn’t tell already, this was a five star read for me! I loved returning to this world and characters that I love so much, while also meeting new ones! This book also had some romance but no on page smut so one flame for spice If you’re a fan of beautiful magic systems, beautifully broken characters and all the found family vibes, then absolutely pick up this series. Even though this is a separate series and can technically be read independently, I’d absolutely recommend reading the Shades of Magic trilogy first as there’s quite a bit of overlap.
