📖 Book Review - Book 14/80 📖 I finished listening to The Girl in the Eagle’s Talons by Karin Smirnoff on Monday. Gosh, I’m so conflicted about how to review this book, so I will do it in two parts: as a standalone book and as part of a series. As a standalone, I think this book is enjoyable to read. The characters are understood, and the storyline is suspenseful and pulls the reader in. Smirnoff does a great job not leaving any plot holes, and its ending makes sense. As part of the Millennium series? It was a huge letdown. As the books have continued from Larsson to Lagercrantz and now to Smirnoff, we’ve seen a decline in the books, in my opinion. When it switched to Lagercrantz, I was nervous about the transition, but it was seamless, and I could only tell the difference in a few bits. With Smirnoff, it was completely different. Lisbeth Salander’s character, which I have grown to love, was completely different. She went from this standoffish, mysterious young woman who prefers to work alone to a flirtatious, funny, involved character that completely goes against what we have known in the previous six books. It was like reading about a stranger. In addition, the book focuses a lot on love interests and the inner thoughts on relationships for Blomqvist and Salander. 📖 Book Review - Book 10/80 📖 Last week, I finished reading The Girl Who Lived Twice by David Lagercrantz. This novel is the 6th book in the Millennium series that began with books written by Stieg Larsson. Unfortunately, this was my least favorite book in the series. This novel follows two different stories, one about an old beggar found dead and the other about Lisbeth tracking down those who’ve wronged her. I found the story about the beggar to be sort of lackluster and dull compared to the airlines previously written by the two authors. However, I will admit that it is technically executed with no plot holes and questions left unanswered. The only satisfying part of this book is Lisbeth finally getting revenge on the remaining people who have made her life hell. Yet, it felt so anticlimactic; I expected so much more than the ending we had all anticipated. 2.5⭐️ out of 5 The Girl Who Lived Twice is the sixth book in The Girl With the Dragon tattoo series. For those of you who don't know, Stieg Larsson wrote the first 3 books but sadly passed away before their publication. David Lagercrantz was hired to write additional novels in the hugely popular series. I highly recommend reading the books in order rather than attempting to read them as standalone novels. Unfortunately this book missed the mark for me and I'm saying that as someone who thinks David did a reasonably good job with the fourth and fifth books. The main issue I had with this story is Lisbeth and Blomkvist felt like afterthoughts, as if a story was created and then later the characters were inserted into the plot. Normally they are the stars of the show, so to speak, but this time around their presence didn't have the same feel to it. To make matters worse, the plot itself was a bit dull and not exactly thrilling. A disappointing read. QOTD: Any books that were disappointing reads for you?

Twist - patologička/rádobydetektívka, ktorej sa úmrtie nepozdáva, kontaktuje Mikaela, ktorý začne odhaľovať minulosť a rodokmeň zosnulého bezdomovca, ktorý krátko pred smrťou vykrikoval bludy o ministrovi obrany. Mikaelovi však bludy prídu kind of podozrivé, a tam si samozrejme pozýva na pomoc Lisbeth, ktorá má však plné ruky práce s: - cestovaním krížom-krážom po Euroázii, - plánovaním odplaty sestre, z ktorej idú všetci prominentní ruskí boľševici do kolien, - venovaním sa milenke, ktorá jej ide na nervy, - žehleniu košelí na ľuďoch, - odhalení ruských grázlov pomocou vhodne zvoleného playlistu, A popri tom všetkom sa učí skákať z motorky a uhýbať sa guľkám a´la Keanu Reeves v Matrixe. Skvelé témy typu trolie farmy lákajú čitateľa z obálky, aby neskôr zostal sklamaný, keďže sa ich autor neobťažoval rozviesť ani 1%. Po závere typu John Wick/Mission Impossible/Spaľovač mŕtvol mi zostáva skonštatovať len to, že táto kniha nemala nikdy uzrieť svetlo sveta, a že chudák Stieg sa musí v hrobe obracať. Mismatch series post #4. Steig Larsson's Millennium trilogy was a big deal around the 2010s. His books introduced us to the unforgettable Lisbeth Salander, who everyone underestimates to their own detriment, and journalist Mikael Blomkvist whose reputation is initially in ruins but given a lifeline when Henrik Vagner employs him to find his missing granddaughter. Hence the world was introduced to Swedish crime novels with a bang. I would like to see Steig Larson's trilogy on Instagram more. Just seems to me what was a huge phenomenon at the time has almost disappeared from view. I read these books so fast and was so disappointed with book 3, The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest, on first reading as Lisbeth was not able to act as her usual self but it has only been on subsequent re-readings have appreciated why Larsson did something different. For what David Lagercrantz's continuations of this series was worth, it was a worthwhile effort. While the first 3 books were written as slow burning thrillers, Lagercrantz has focussed his attention more on the action side of Lisbeth's personality and delving deeper into her family history. 🌌An Ode to Millennium by Stieg Larsson and David Lagercrantz🌌 ---------- The Millennium series has been a breath of fresh air throughout my reading habits this year. The first three books were of such entertainment quality, unbelievable. I’ve just finished the 6th book ‘The Girl Who Lived Twice’ (I won’t review it apart, I doubt people will read it since it’s that far in the series) and I was pleasantly surprised. Sure it’s not the high standards of the original books, but still a pretty good thriller. This is largely due though the fantastic characters. I’ve mentioned it once in another post but Lisbeth Salander is easily one of my top 3 book characters of all time. I genuinely love her (well the idea of her?). The other characters are good as well, don’t get me wrong, but they could have been part of any good written thriller. Lisbeth Salander really stands apart. The stories are great, maybe a bit complicated now and then, but superbly constructed. The book always carries a deeper message as well: domestic violence, mental health, … however the author doesn’t shove it down your throat like Disney likes to do lately. Love thoughtful messages in books, hate it when they are terribly obvious. In the summer of 2023 Karin Smirnoff will write the 7th book in the series. I am so excited. If she can grasp the complex character that Salander is the book can’t fail. Books as gifts are always special . But this one is extra special as it flew down from its origin, Stockholm, Sweden 🇸🇪 Thanks to @rizbiz87 . First saw the movie The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo on tv . It was an adaptation by David Fincher . After some googling found out that it’s actually the first book of the Millennium series by Stieg Larsson . Sadly the books were published posthumously. Later David Lagercrantz was commissioned for another three books in the same series. There were five books in total when I found out about it and gobbled up one after another through some online app . After two years the sixth installment published and I got my first hard copy of the series . The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo was my introduction to Scandinavia noir and could not be better . Larsson’s carefully crafted protagonists are perhaps my favourite crime-thriller duo . Coming from two different sides of the society one is Lisbeth Selender, the social-outcast with a photographic memory , genius hacking skill and history of childhood abuse . Another is Mikael Blomkvist , a celebrated journalist . The deep web of human psychology intertwined with the underworld of Stockholm and the sleek actions make it an absolute page turner . It's the weekend!!! Have I gotten a chance to read yet? No! But I'm finally sitting down and I'm going to open my book and drink a Belgian beer. I've been decluttering for the past few days but I'm signing off for today! We recently got our daughters some bunk beds so we've been rearranging things to make the room suitable for both of them. 🏔The Girl Who Lived Twice - David Lagercrantz🏔 Here are the pros: • The last 150 pages contain the intensity needed to add something positive to David Lagercrantz's trilogy. The ending to this book is intense and well written. • Lagercrantz does a good job of making us sympathize with Nima Rita. • Although the book isn't particularly engaging until the last 150 pages, the story is written well enough to be somewhat sustainable. • Lisbeth Salander actually feels like Lisbeth Salander in this story. Here are the cons: • The side-lining of side characters like Erika Berger and Millennium as a whole is incredibly detrimental to the enjoyment of Lagercrantz's trilogy. It just feels like he lacked the understanding needed to continue Larsson's original trilogy. Lagercrantz's trilogy doesn't even come close to transcending the source material like critics say. Overall, I'm glad to be done with this series. Quienes han leído la trilogía original, sabrán que Camilla Salander es un personaje mencionado por Stieg Larsson en varias oportunidades. Sin embargo, en la trilogía nunca llegó a aparecer. Lo poco que se pudo conocer acerca de Camilla es que, frente a los abusos que recibía su madre, ella optó tomar partido por su padre, algo que la enfrentó con Lisbeth. Tras la muerte de su madre, ambas hermanas tuvieron una fuerte disputa y nunca más volvieron a verse, hasta ahora. Teniendo en cuenta que Stieg Larsson tenía pensado escribir diez libros, siempre conjeturé que Camilla eventualmente aparecería en la serie. Tristemente, Stieg no vivió lo suficiente para continuar su fantástica historia y fue David Lagercrantz quién consideró oportuno terminar esta saga con su aparición. Y la verdad, el enfrentamiento final no está nada mal. Personalmente, disfrute esta novela. Sé que no es el cierre que Stieg hubiera imaginado y que, teniendo en cuenta que David no es el autor original, difícilmente estos libros pueden ser vistos como parte del canon. Pero es un final alternativo a una serie que, durante muchos años, quedó inconclusa. Nunca sabremos qué hubiera pasado con los Lisbeth Mikael B. originales, pero al menos (desde un cierto punto) estos personajes recibieron un final para por fin descansar. This one was a little disappointing. Not sure you should label it “A Lisbeth Salander Novel” when she’s basically relegated to the “B” story. While the “A” story was an interesting mystery, it was a bit sluggish and mostly involved Michael.

I said in an earlier post that I didn't include David Lagercrantz's books that continued Stieg Larsson's series 'cause I didn't enjoy his style compared to Larsson's. But fast-forward to today and I just finished Lagercrantz's 6th installment to the Millennium series: The Girl Who Lived Twice. I also just found out that this was Lagercrantz's final book which officially marked the end to Lisbeth Salander's story. I feel sad about this. Of course, the end of the book turned out to be a relief for Lisbeth & Mikael. However, I personally find the last parts rushed as to how Lisbeth's story ended. It wasn't the ending I expected and I wish the author took more time to properly bring the story to its close. As usual, the writing style lacked that certain passion I was looking for but I do admire his effort in being so intricate and scientific regarding the mystery behind the Sherpa. This was probably my favorite part. And this also led to my curiosity about the Rainbow Valley of Mt. Everest since this was mentioned in the book. This was my first time hearing it and after seeing the pictures and reading articles about it...it just felt heavy and it's really tragic that those people had to die there and the thought about being there is just scary. Regarding what happened to Camilla, there was something off to what happened to her. Like...why 😂 It was weird but anyway, that was her fate. It was just so sudden. Overall, I ended up finishing the series just because I really like Salander's character and I was curious with how her journey would end. Knowing the ending, I guess I'm at peace? I guess I can move on. REVIEW : 3☆/5 •so I discovered the Millenium series a few years ago, and I quickly fell in love. I somehow suddenly remembered how much I enjoy reading this series and was reminiscent of all the good excitement that it brings with it. I looked it up and found out that I have missed the release of this book, and was super excited..... then I was disappointed. I thought it was me, but after drafting the review, I realized that I am not the only one who felt that something was missing from this book. I know Steig Larsson started a masterpiece, and then David Lagercrantz picked it up, and I sincerely enjoyed the other 2 books by the latter author, as an addition to the main trilogy, however, this one felt short. Lisbeth Salander felt empty like someone was acting to be her. I can't even recall few lines for her in the book. she is mostly away, hiding, annoyed, by herself, with a very little contribution. which somewhat defies the purpose. then comes Blomkvist, not the original fascinating, hard-working, obsessive, interesting, investigative Blomkvist we were used to. something about him also felt off. the characters did not resonate well with me. then comes the storyline, it was detailed, and well worked, obviously, I cannot say otherwise, however, some were repetitive, others were merely mentioned. then comes the mix-up between the case, Blomkvist, Lizbeth, and her sister who came to avenge. messy scenario to say the least! I was really annoyed by Salander the most. I really cannot get over the fact that she barely showed up in the bok, mostly was silent, and had honorable mentions, to say the least! did I enjoy the read: somewhat, not very much it was messier, more than usual, and I was lost a couple of times, to say the least, picked up later, which is good, and somewhat expected after my experience with the author. Book Review: THE GIRL WHO LIVED TWICE by David Lagercrantz Rating: ✩ ✩ ✩ Genre: Crime / Thriller Number of Pages: After a total of six books I have finally come to the end of this series! I finish off with the sixth and final book, which was interesting but sadly not all I hoped it would be. This book follows a few story lines, of which I’m not entirely sure they were all necessary to the plot. It was an interesting mystery trying to tie together the connections between our mystery beggar and our well off friends however, again it seemed to just be a story to be a story. I enjoyed that Salander was able to confront her sister but I was ultimately disappointed by how the confrontation turned out. It seemed like after six books their tension was so built up and it just came to a flat ending. Overall I was expecting a bit more from this book, but still enjoyed it!
