•Mexican Gothic by Sylvia Moreno-Garcia• ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I love going into books blind and Mexican Gothic is a perfect example of why I love reading a book I know nothing much about, other than it was recommended to me. This book was such a twisted, freaky, wild ride and I am completely obsessed with it. I do think that this book got off to a bit of a slow start. It took you about 100 pages before you were more invested and got to know the plot better. I also have to question if the romance at the end was real or a by-product of the gloom. Da es sich um den zehnten und Finalen Band handelt, habe ich gemischte Gefühle beim lesen gehabt. Zum einen voller Vorfreude auf das Zusammentreffen mit liebgewonnenen Charakteren und zum anderen mit einer gewissen Traurigkeit, dass die Reihe zu Ende ist. Auch in diesem Teil konnte mich der Schreibstil begeistern, es ist flüssig mit einer Prise Humor. Nach einem interessanten Prolog steigt die Spannung der Geschichte immer weiter, bis es so hoch ist, dass ich das Buch nicht mehr aus der Hand legen konnte. Endlich erfahren wir alles über den Druckluftnagler-Fall mit dem die Reihe begann. Der Autor schafft es den Leser auf die falsche Fährte zu locken. Die Story ist spannend, wendungsreich, actionreich und gut strukturiert. Für mich war es ein fulminanter Abschied und ich hoffe sehr, auf ein wiedersehen von liebgewonnenen Charakteren. This is actually the first reverse age gap I’ve read and I finished it in an afternoon. It follows the story of Blaire a 39year old divorcee whom between caring for her young daughter is also a culinary instructor at a university. One night while out with her best friend she meets Jaden a young barback one flirtatious encounter turns into 2 blissfully streaming weeks and then the new school year starts and who just happens to be one of Miss Turners new students. The dual POV was good seeing both Blaire and Jaden’s inner turmoil/determination was interesting. This is definitely an Insta love read, in all honesty, I felt there wasn’t much emotion connection between the mains but definitely physical connection, so if that’s your jam and your all for an older woman definitely give this book a read. It’s been a while since I did a #coffeeandcurrentlyreading and I am loving my current read… so here we are! The Truth of the Aleke by Moses Ose Utomi is the second in the Forever Desert series and takes place 500 years after The Lies of the Ajungo. I am about half way done and am constantly amazed by how much Utomi packs into each of his novellas. The world building, character arcs and story are so well developed and lush. It was difficult to rake pictures of this book tonfit the new aesthetic of my feed haha but well... it's just large, a very large book. When was the last time you went into a book thinking it was a standalone but found out it was the first in a series?? I got that fun surprise with What the River Knows by Isabel Ibañez. And while the ending legit made me stop in my tracks (I was listening to the audio) a lot more things made sense knowing that there is a book two. Ibañez has a way of world building that makes you feel like you are right in the story. I was lost in the way she painted Egypt in 1885. I could feel the heat and the grit and it became a character in itself. Given the time period and the age of the main characters, she also kept the experiences feeling authentic. And although I wanted to rage at the main character, Inez, for making certain decisions I needed to remember just how young she is and just how much the patriarchy blows. Knowing now that this is a duology I am more forgiving of some of the pacing. I felt like a lot was introduced at the end of the book, but it will be lead up for book two. I would have spread this out a bit more so it didn’t feel so disproportionate. But I will reserve a final verdict for the end of book two (which is out in November). Have you read this one? What are your thoughts??? Also - everyone be obsessed with this beautiful @owlcrate edition!

I finished this story last week and I’ve been thinking about this book every single day since then. And I’ve been procrastinating this post because I don’t know what to say 😂. I did not expect that this book would be a new favourite. There’s just something about this story that makes me think about it multiple times a day. I even had difficulty reading something else after this 😂. I don’t think I’ve ever experienced that with a book, it’s so weird to me! It’s just something about the way this story was told. Yes, I did guess the plot correctly, but the way Roshani Chokshi has written the story and the way it unfolds is just beautiful ✨. It’s not a story for everyone 😂. 💊 REVIEW: The Clinic 💊 If you are a big fan of (early) Riley Sager, then this book is right up your alley! SUMMARY: Meg is a loner and opioid addict who works undercover in casino security. When her sister Haley dies under suspicious circumstances at an exclusive rehab facility, Meg decides to check to uncover the truth, but between withdrawals, personal demons, and someone possibly trying to kill her, she may run out of time. I liked this book! Despite constantly doing things you’d scream at a horror movie heroine for, I enjoyed her general dislike of people and relentless commitment to uncovering the truth. (Basically the classic jaded cop/detective trope but a lady.) The small cast of characters, each of whom had something to hide, meant that the identity of the true villain kept me guessing. There were twists and turns, but none were so outrageous as to fall outside the bounds of the story. ALSO, I actively dislike thrillers where all the characters are terrible people – and that was NOT the case with this one. Everyone was flawed, but I was still rooting for them to survive. •Twilight Falls by Juneau Black (Shady Hollow No. 4)• ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ “Whenever Vera was upset, she craved order, comfort, and intelligence. Thus, her path took her directly to the bookstore.” -pg 118 I adore the Shady Hollow series, and Twilight Falls is the perfect addition to the series. This series has become such a wonderful comfort series that it makes me laugh out loud from start to finish. I didn’t find the mystery in this book to be particularly mysterious, but that doesn’t make this book any less amazing. I want so badly to be a witty, clever fox living in a sweet, small town in the woods. I HIT MY READING GOAL FOR THIS YEAR!! 🎉 Last night at 1:40am, staying up way past a reasonable bed time I finished The Inmate by @fmcfaddenauthor - it was my first book by her and let me tell you I WAS HOOKED from the beginning. I finished this book in a day (with the help of audiobooks and no sleep 🤭) - Yes, I regretted the no sleep part when my children woke up ready to party at 7:00am. I set my reading goal at 30 because last year I didn’t read many books every month. I also had a harder time keeping up with tracking books. I figured with juggling school, being a mom, and wife 30 books was reasonable. With the help of audiobooks I’ve been able to reach that goal faster than expected! If you think audiobooks aren’t reading we can’t be friends. I believe audiobooks are such an amazing tool for the busy reader. I personally simultaneously read on my kindle (or a physical book) and listen to the audiobook. It helps me get into the story. Another perk is I don’t have to stop reading when I have things to do. I have also trained my brain to read fast thanks to my 2.50 listening speed. 🫣😬 I’m so excited to see how many more books I can read this year. Butcher and Blackbird yall! This book took me by surprise!😳😍🤌🏻 I rated it: 4/5⭐️ 5/5🌶️🥵 I found this book super out of my comfort zone but I ended up really enjoying it! You can’t help but love the two MCs and justify what they do because of why they do it 😅😂 It would’ve been a 5/5⭐️ for me, but gory unaliving is just not the vibe for me so I had to deduct a star for that😂 But I will say, I appreciated how even though their…umm activities(?) were a big part of the book it wasn’t the main focus. In my opinion the book was more focused on their character development in their personal lives and their love story slowly blossoming. So I loved that!! The witty banter between the two was just top tier 🤌🏻 And ya’ll…the smut was smuttin 👀 if you know me, you know I don’t really like to read much smut and there were parts I just completely skipped over because I was like WOW THIS IS INTENSE, CLUTCHIN MY PEARLS😂😂 And the twist at the end!!
