27th of April 📚 • Where is the year going? It's insane that we are half way through it. I have just been sat having a little think, like I do when I'm alone. That my teeny tiny baby, is going to be 4 next year? He actually said a full sentence yesterday, like I've been wanting him to speak for ages and it's finally happening. My 1 year old, is so dramatic that he has me crying with laughter, and I will be looking at pre school soon. Jesus. It just goes so quick! • Anyway. I don't want them to be babies forever, but it's still a bit sad! 😂 • Bookish update! I'm reading a book on my kindle which is like 800 pages long?! But I'm invested in it now. It's a little bit like 'lost' but with murder, and I'm not to sure where it's going, but I'm enjoying it. I'm also reading 'ninth house' I'm enjoying this one too! It's based around dark magic, murder and a fmc who's badass. • Hopefully I can get one of them done before May! @bookishbelle_bristol, this challenge was so hard!! The challenge: Five books that define my taste. Narrowing down to five books took me all week. I am a bit of a mood reader and like to dabble in a lot of genres (although fantasy and romantasy are my front runners.) So here is what we have: 1. The White Queen by Philippa Gregory - I enjoy historical fiction, especially if there is drama or mystery to it. I first fell in love with it by diving into Gregory's books. The White Queen stands out because of its FMC, who fights for her family. There is a good HBO adaptation, too. 2. A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness - I will always fall for a witchy tale. I wasn't a huge fan of the later books in the series, but Book 1 is still one of my favorites. Similar to choice 4, there is also an academic feel that I love. 3. And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie - I love the twists and turns in any genre, and Christie always stands out. I used to read her books when I went to my grandparents, so it also represents the sentimental side of book collecting for me. I have their collection on my shelves now. ❤️ 4. The Ninth House by Leigh Bardugo—A dark academia story probably best describes my taste. Ninth House is a fun read that creates a good mystery while using familiar places and names. 5. A Court of Silver Flames by Sarah J. Maas - New to my reading personality is a series I can immerse myself in. ACOTAR is my number one, and I've been seeking the next one ever since. I picked the last book because I also love a female redemption story, and Nesta is my girl! I don't know who has done this challenge, but I would love to see everyone's. What are your favourite reads of this year till now? Book Review In this latest novel - The Hoopoe On The Lawn, Ruskin Bond narrates the story of himself when he was eleven, and visits his grandmother's home in Dehra during his winter vacation. In this short novel, Mr. Bond takes the readers on the journey of his nostalgia - making the readers see nature, neighbours and narratives through his lens through six different experiences. The tale of a ghost hiding in a peepul tree, some delicious baked treats in a magic box, some tonga rides, his surprising run-ins with Quit India protestors, the company of sweetest neighbours Kellner, and the Hoopoe who comes daily at 3 pm in granny's garden! Read this book to go on a ride full of friendships, love, nature, simple pleasures of life, comfort and nostalgia. Mr. Bond astonish me every single time through his stories and every time I wonder how he does it. The wonderful description of Mr. Bond's relationship with her granny and how she allows him to only have two delights from the magical box of cookies and bakeries, and how on some special occasions, there's a treat, and how on normal days Miss Kellner gives him the company and the delights, his conversations with the Dhuki, granny's gardener, especially the one in the end shows the innocence of the childhood. The book has some beautiful illustrations by Priya Kuriyan, which can easily be comprehended from the cover. They beautifully accompany the story of Mr. Bond, and perfectly captures the picture he portrays with the words. And it's a delight to see this magic of materialising the imagination. This novella, though quite short in length, is full of moments that can make one long for childhood, again, and for children to live it to the fullest. And with this one, I'm not shocked that Mr. Bond delivers another favourite, a book that I'll revisit again and again, and something that I'll highly recommend. Rating: 5/5 Detailed review on Blog. Do you like reading love stories? Have you read any recently? Book Review First Loves, Last Loves by Ruskin Bond is a collection of 12 stories that have love as a key theme in them. The love that comes from the various aspects of life, and something that stays for long for someone, and while for some, let's just say trial and error. And these stories by Mr. Bond beautifully expresses these emotions. This collection has some wonderful characters that we come across in Mr. Bond's work frequently, especially Binya and Sushila, and that's a delight. There are times when I get fed up with romance novels because of their predictability or writing or monotonous narrative, Mr. Bond's stories, characters and writing remind me again and again how simple it is and it's us that doesn't see it. In this collection, "The Girls On The Train" and "The Eyes Have It" are the same stories under different names here, and though it is one of my favourite stories by Mr. Bond, I would have liked to read some other one! Also, the title talks about last loves as well and the book cover makes it more relevant but the stories here do not offer much about last loves, and I would have loved to see that. Overall, this is a collection that re-affirms my interest and love for love stories. So if you are looking forward to reading some stories that can make you fall in love with love, read this one. Hey guys, I thought I'd make a post slightly different today but still related to the Horror genre which is Goosebumps! 📖💀📖💀📖💀📖💀📖💀📖💀📖💀📖💀📖💀📖💀📖 Growing up I collected the books by R.L. Stine with the goofy cover designs which are nowhere near as good as the beautiful Tim Jacobus illustrated covers in the US but they hold a nostalgic feeling which many share the same feeling! Alongside the novels was the TV show which I also was a fan of with 'The Haunted Mask' always being my favourite episode and is good to this day even with the dated graphics. I got rid of my Goosebumps collection years ago but I somehow managed to hold onto 2 novels which I recently discovered in a box; 'Welcome To Dead House' and 'Stay Out Of The Basement' which were favourites of mine. Wow Wow Wow Wow Wow, such a remarkable book. This one has my heart and soul♥. Let's talk about the book, 1. Gorgeous Cover ♾🤌 2. Writing was spot on 3. The characters each one were so unique with there own perspectives 🫶🫶🏻 4. The depiction loss, loneliness, grief, ageing, hope, freedom, with a bit of mystery, friendships, love, community and family captured my heart. 😇✨ 5. The Octopus Marcellus McSquiddles my goodness this guy was THE MAGIC of the book, his Pov bought sparkles to the book, how cool is that he had his own chapters in the book. I thank the author for giving voice to this brilliant creature 🐙. It was such a delight to read and it made me really want to pet an octopus. 😍💛❤💜💗 6. Tova and Cameron were Amazing, I was so happy they were connected together at last, all loose ends tied together. The Night Swim: A book with podcast chapters sprinkled throughout is always fun to try on audio (None of This is True is a recent one that comes to mind). The Night Swim was heavy and mysterious and, as expected, a great listen. With a slow, vague build this story was filled with characters that all felt a little suspect. And while I enjoyed the eventual escalation, the reveal came all at once and a little too conveniently. Basing an entire book on both a rape case and a decades-old murder means a lot of difficult content, so I’d be sure to look for trigger warnings if you consider reading it. Having said that, I can’t take things that are too graphic and this one didn’t feel especially hard in more than one or two specific scenes. Sometimes you just need a suspenseful story to read, to mix up the genre pattern we sometimes find ourselves in, and go with a roller coaster of a story. With a final rating of 3.5 stars for me, I think this book fit that bill pretty well. What other podcast-ish books have you read or listened to? Her excerpts are so happening and graciously put up that you can fall in love with every word, every incident. Being a writer myself, this was quite a reflective journey for me. I have painted it red with my annotations and notes. In Other Words, will always be on the list of books that I want to take with me wherever I go. This book teaches you how important it is to restore the essence of translation, in the process of translating. 🌃 Richard Laymon - Come Out Tonight Review: Finally completed comes March's choice for the bookclub; 'Come Out Tonight' which begun rather swiftly but eventually became a drag due to busy life and sadly I had to miss the group discussion last weekend but I vow not to miss this month's chat! The story begins with Sherry who is about to have a romantic evening with boyfriend Duane who mysteriously disappears after a trip to a store. Enter Toby who knows Sherry.... But maybe a little too well? Unfortunately this book happened to be one of my least favourite Laymon titles I've read, it begun riveting and exciting but it all became less distinctive later on, perhaps due to the similar nature of other Laymon book's like 'After Midnight'. The characters were mostly fine although a few got on my nerves like Jeff who appears halfway through the story, Sherry probably was the best character overall throughout for her courage and strength. So this is definitely one book I won't return to in the future compared to the fantastic 'Endless Night' or 'Island'. Fingers crossed 'In The Dark' will be a much better novel and I can't wait to begin it this evening! Rating: 5/10 • • • • 🌃 • • • •

dWhen I wrote The Way Series, I purposely did NOT make it a trilogy (even though that is what many, many young adult authors do these days) because I wasn't sure if there would be only three books. 🙂 I also wrote these novels so you can either read each book as a stand alone OR in order as a series. I learn about an event I knew nothing about, the Scopes Trial, but I also get an engaging story on its own. Annabel has great character development as she learns how science and religion can coexist. Drugim jest bogaty Boldwood, dla którego uczucie do Betsaby jest zupełną nowością, bo w okolicy wierzono, że będzie kawalerem do śmierci. To bohater, który fiksuje się na celu i nie potrafi spuścić z niego wzroku. Ostanim pretendentem do ręki jest przystojny wojskowy, który czerpie korzyści z powiedzenia „za mundurem panny sznurem”. Betsaba kroczy ścieżką, którą wszystkowiedzący czytelnik by jej odradził. Autor przedstawia bohaterkę jako trochę próżną, która nie zawsze myśli o tym, czy kogoś zrani swoim postępowaniem. Potrzebowałam trochę czasu, żeby w pełni wejść w świat wykreowany przez autora i się nim rozkoszować. Hardy poświęcił sporo pracy nad opisami tła wydarzeń. Zaskoczyło mnie, że czytanie o bohaterach na dalszym planie było interesujące, czasami nawet zabawne. Dzięki opisom zadań na farmie i wyzwań stojących przed gospodarzami, czytelnik może przenieść się w miejscu i w czasie. Pod koniec fabuły stawki rosną, a napięcie sięga zenitu i trudno już tę książkę odłożyć. I finally took the plunge and started Throne of Glass! I'm not too far in yet, but it has already got my curiosity, so I'm hopeful that this will be a good read!! I hope everyone has a great weekend! We're officially in baseball season, so weekends have been pretty busy so far this spring, so I don't get as much reading done. Hi guys! March was a very busy month for me and I've only just finished 'Come Out Tonight' for the bookclub but I'm hoping April will be a tad easier in terms of reading some spooky horror! 📖🐀🪦📖🐀🪦📖🐀🪦📖🐀🪦📖🐀🪦📖🐀🪦📖🐀🪦📖 The choice for this month by the bookclub is 'In The Dark' which I'm very excited about as it's apparently one of Laymon's best works. The artwork alone is grabbing with the crimson sky and creepy figure lurking in the background! The second novel which I shall be reading with a few fellow bookclub members is James Herbert's 'Lair' which is the sequel to 'The Rats' which I read this time last year and loved!
