📚 Book Review 📚 How to Stop Time by Matt Haig ⏳️ My husband was desperate for me to read this one as he thought I’d enjoy the history in it (plus I think he wanted someone to talk to about it!). He was right – I did really enjoy it. It was so interesting reading this in juxtapose to The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue – one about trying not to fall in love and the other living through loving. There was a very clear sense of character and what drives them. I really enjoyed the exploration of different times. Occasionally the pacing was a bit off but overall this was a great read. I do enjoy Matt Haig’s writings. Book 9 of 2024: How to Stop Time by Matt Haig I haven't posted my reading this year for a while - so here I am, way behind schedule, but next in line was the second Haig book I've read. I enjoyed this one as much as The Midnight Library, we had a nice twisty plot, particularly at the beginning, which kept me intrigued and lots of bouncing between eras and characters too. It lost a star for me for the ending - too simple and too sudden. ⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 “All you can do with the past is carrying it around, feeling its weight slowly increase, praying it never crushes you completely” When I first started this book I had high hopes because the concept was unlike anything I had ever read. A man 400+ years old, never really aging, looking for is long lost daughter. But as I got to the middle of the book the momentum for me really stalled. I thought there were parts that were not important to the story and it became boring. At this point, I expected the story to be going in a certain direction of mystery about his daughter but it did not. However, the ending did pick up again and kept me engaged. Overall, I thought the author did a nice job of transporting me through time. Matt Haig! Matt Haig is one of my favourite writers and has written some of my favourite books! I was first introduced to his work through reading The Midnight Library in 2022 after I'd seen so much about it. It's a very polarising novel with people either loving or hating it, and I do fall on the love side of the debate! Haig's books are incredibly enjoyable and profound. The writing style is perfect: easy to read and bursting with beautiful metaphors. Matt Haig's books are very unique and offer a very enjoyable reading experience. I also find that the premises of the books are unique, well thought out, and just really enjoyable, offering a relaxing, entertaining reading experience while also provoking many questions and exploring some very profound life themes. From being able to live lives where you hadn't made certain choices, to people who live for 100s of years, and aliens who take over the lives of humans, these are just some of the plots of these novels. Of the four Matt Haig novels I have read, all have been amazing! I would highly recommend exploring some of Matt Haig's books! Book 10/30 I loved “The Midnight Library” so I wanted to dive into another one of Matt Haig’s books ASAP. Unfortunately, this one did not live up to the other. I felt lost throughout the story and had a hard time keeping a connection with the characters. I will say I was pleasantly surprised at the ending though which made up for it a bit. “I understand that the way you stop time is by stopping being ruled by it. book review: how to stop time by matt haig "but there is a part of me - a small but dangerous part - that is keen to know where she knew me from. or, maybe, a small part that simply wants to be solved." despite having the appearance of a normal 41-year-old man, tom hazard harbours a dangerous secret; due to a rare condition, he's been living for centuries, aging much slower than the average person. to avoid being discovered, people like him (known as "albatrosses") must change their identity every eight years, and the only thing they are forbidden from is falling in love. but when he encounters a captivating french teacher in his new life in london, tom must decide if he's going to keep running from the past, or finally start living in the present. this book is certainly unique. there is no clear linear plotline: rather, the writing alternates between fragments of tom's past memories and his current life. although it comes off as confusing, the different bits slowly combine to form an impactful story. we're able to witness how different people in his past affect and shape him into his present self. to a degree, tom is merely experiencing the same life as many of us. however, his condition amplifies them and as a result, each individual impact causes a larger ripple effect. as someone who has been alive for centuries, tom experiences love and loss stronger and more profoudly than us. the raw emotions brought forward contribute to the overall themes of this novel - losing loved ones, the meaning of life, and to look towards the future. alas, it is impossible to stop time, but it is possible to make the most of what you have. final rating: 4 stars #books #bookstagram #howtostoptime #howtostoptimematthaig #matthaig #bookreview #reading #sciencefiction #timetravel first image from pinterest

Dann trifft er Agnes, die schon 1407 geboren wurde. Sie hat den Wissenschaftler getötet, zum Schutz der Albatross Society. Hendrich Pietersen hat diese Gesellschaft gegründet, um Menschen wie Tom und Agnes, die seeehr langsam altern u Jahrhunderte leben, zu beschützen. Agnes bringt Tom nach New York und so lernt Tom Hendrich und die Regeln dieses langen Lebens kennen. Doch inzwischen sieht Tom dieses Leben als Fluch an und will aus dem Endloskarussell aussteigen. Tom and Rose's relationship was so sweet...🩷💌 I felt very peaceful while reading it. I read that some readers saw Tom's subsequent relationship with Camille as a betrayal. However, it didn't feel like a betrayal to me, I think it was quite normal. It was also very sweet to finally reunite with his daughter.💞🎻 However, I would like to read a little more about the beautiful relationship between them. In The Midnight Library, Matt Haig explores having infinite do-overs in life. Even with infinite chances, it’s the choices we make every day that shape our lives and it’s never too late to correct course as long as you’re still in the game. It’s an interesting concept but the execution of it sometimes became repetitive for me and I didn’t find the writing very compelling. My knitting and crochet time is taking a bit of a back seat at the moment as I’m trying to allow more time for reading. In the last decade I have spent a lot of time reading Julia Donaldson, Roald Dahl and David Walliams to name a few with Joshua. I’ve loved this time, but Joshua is reading independently a lot more now and so it is freeing up a bit more time for the books I want to read. 📚 ‘How to Stop Time’ is what I am currently reading 📖🌹⌛️ I’m really enjoying it so far, a slower paced love story that time hops from the 16th century to modern day and I love the historical references within the plot line. This is only the second book by @mattzhaig that I have read. The Midnight Library was the first, and I absolutely loved it. I'm sitting here trying to figure out why I have waited so long to pick up another of his books. I have no good reason. . Somehow, this one caught my eye. I don't remember when or why. But I knew that it would be a great book to take along on vacation. And I was right! It was easy enough to put down, but I definitely didn't want to stop reading it. It's light, but you can find heaviness in it if you look hard enough. If I had to write a review, you know like the professionals do and then they show up on the back cover of a book or on the first few pages inside, this would be: Matt Haig has a way of making you look inwards and thinking about the human race. How to Stop Time - Matt Haig 2.5 Stars / 5 - ““I have been so many different people, played so many different roles in my life. “ When I read the Midnight Library, I had no expectations and I enjoyed the story for what it was. Although Haig writes in a philosophical way it worked for that novel. In How to Stop Time - it felt more of an effort to get through. The consistent famous name droppings, the meaning of life moments, the time we have and who we meet. You’re supposed to wonder - if this was you - what would you do? This felt like a John Green novel for adults. Not that Green is a bad author, it’s just cheesy and a little over the top. I do like a novel that switches pov - this went from present day to past which worked. There was a lot of room for character development and plot that fell short. The consistent jumping and mass character made less time for important characters such as the mother, Rose, Camille and Omai. I couldn’t put it down. I have to admit i was hesitant, I bought this book back in 2020 during lockdown as I LOVE Matt Haig’s non-fiction but when i read The Midnight Library it was such a let down which then put me off reading How to Stop Time, but i’m glad I finally got round to it. It’s a cute little love story and fascinating look into our perspective of time and the future - it plays slightly on anxiety surrounding the future, giving comfort that I am not the only one who feels lost in space. Mortality is a captivating topic of discussion for me. Give me anything discussing life after death, near death experiences, the gap in between life and death… i’ll eat it right up. AND THIS!! BOOK!!! HITS THE SPOT!! A character finally finding his way, or figuring out his meaning (however you want to label it) in his 4th century, and the very human basic emotions attached to a not so basic character. So many beautiful sections and one liners. A book that despite hesitation I picked up at the perfect time in my life.
