Mein erstes Buch von Frau von Arnim. Und wieder mal etwas late to the party. Seit ich Gabriele von Arnim allerdings vor längerer Zeit in einem Podcast gehört habe, war mir damals bereits klar: ich brauche alle Bücher von ihr. Diese liegen auch schon seit geraumer Zeit sehr brav in meinen Regalen und warten dort auf mich. Einer spontanen Eingebung folgend nahm ich letzte Woche dann diesen 76-Seiten-Snack zur Hand. Was ist das nur für ein wunderbares, wichtiges Büchlein zur rechten Zeit! Als Brief an ihre Enkel angelegt, nimmt Frau Arnim zuerst Bezug zum Ist: zur Welt, die einfach grade nur weh tut. Zu einer Situation voller Fragilität und unsicheren Zukunftsgedanken. Und dann... Tja, dann schenkt sie Zuversicht und lenkt den Blick trotz aller Ungewissheit positiv in die Zukunft. Auf jeder Seite. Viele gute Nachrichten (ja, die gibts wirklich) flechtet Sie in ihre Kapitel ein, stellt die richtigen Fragen und relativiert viele Dinge mehr als klug. Der Unterschied zwischen Zuversicht und Hoffnung ist mir nun auch klar. Und auch, wie wichtig gute Geschichten und gute Bilder sind, wie sehr wir diese brauchen. Zudem befindet sich nun auf fast jeder Buchseite ein Merk-Eselsohr. Genau genommen möchte ich auch fast jeden Satz bei mir behalten. Und weiterhin Zuversicht üben. Das geht wirklich. The Kamogawa Food Detectives Review Brief Description- Down a quiet backstreet in Kyoto exists a very special restaurant called the Kamogawa Diner. The farther and daughter duo who own the restaurant have started advertising their services as the food detectives,capable of recreating a dish from their costumers past. My thoughts Everyone has that one dish that so many memories come flooding back as you eat it, linked to a person or a moment in your life. You try to recreate it and it doesn't taste the same, so for the character in each of the story they have to give the farther and daughter clues to work out the right ingredients. The cat on the cover features occasionally and has the cutest personality. With each of the chapters the seasons change and the writer explains Japanese culture throughout them. Spreading anti-Semitic hatred and misinformation before the advent of social media and through your mailbox, yes direct mailers and the radio. This is a compilation of those who brought over its philosophy and the unsung heroes that stood against it. It was fascinating to read about Father Coughlin, Huey Long as well as the racist views of American industrialist Henry Ford (very surprising). As well as sabotage plots on infrastructures, the Jews and attempts to incite a coup. One disturbing revelation is the FBI’s decision to conceal evidence implicating powerful individuals, including senators, in promoting Nazi propaganda. While some faced consequences most walked away with not even a mere slap of the wrist. Meanwhile the heroes remained unrecognised, a sad truth of history. Shoutout to (& RIP) Leon Lewis and O. John Rogge among others, you hope there are more of them out there today. Entertaining narrative couple with unapologetic storytelling that pulls no punches, made this an engrossing read. The author’s fearlessness in delving into the embarrassing and ugly truths is a standout feature and why she’s one of my favourites. “Prequel” much like its predecessor “Bagman” serve both as a companion and an expansion of a podcast, “Ultra”, a recommendation in its own right. Yet despite its merits, this lacked a coherent narrative, falling short compared to “Blowout”, which I highly recommend. Still 1 more book of hers (Drift) that I hope to complete before 2024 comes to a close. Have you read this ❓❓

Dare I say, a mastery of the slow burn? Yes, I do dare. This book was recommended to me, and right off the bat, I've got to say I'm glad I received it. Like an insane person, I thought, "Hmm, let's try to read a little every day on the commute to work." I realized it takes forever, but I forced myself not to sneak in at night. What I thought would take a few days turned into a three-week adventure, that was worth every moment. "The Black Witch" follows Elloren Gardner, a powerless mage cursed by some and blessed by others to share an identical resemblance to her famous grandmother, the Black Witch. When Elloren is finally sent to University, her world gets turned upside down. Torn between the isolated values she grew up learning versus the society she must conform to in order to survive, Elloren’s character is tested. Will she choose to be ignorant of the impending prophecy, or will she find a way to understand and make her own rules? Torn between family, loyalty, and self-preservation, her honesty with herself is the biggest obstacle she faces. The build-up and the payoff were phenomenal. Shout out to my friend for never spoiling it no matter how many times I nagged her; she’s a real MVP. Elloren’s journey was realistically and beautifully executed. As a reader, I had made it through her ups and downs and her internal struggles. I feel like I personally know every character in the book because we spent so much time together and learned their stories. @laurieannforest made me feel like a deserving reader. This book made me invested in its world whether it be through history, its art, or its politics. Every page was informational, every chapter I was learning; every time you questioned why is this important? Forest had me turning the page and going, “here’s why.” I’ve never felt more giddy and excited to read this year than with this book; I had to stop myself from reading before the second one could arrive in the mail just so I could have it on deck! En aquesta història coneixem a l'Anzu, una dona divorciada que te un fill de 10 anys i que es dedica al seu art sense voler saber res dels homes. I la seva germana, la Kyoko, que te un caràcter, una idea de vida i unes prioritats totalment diferents. La relació entre elles amaga un munt de secrets que poden ser determinants. . Una història de traïció i d'amor, molt tendra com totes les que escriu l'autora. I us explico quelcom que he sabut ara, i que no sabia quan vaig comprar el llibre: aquest llibre és anterior a "Lluna plena" i les protagonistes de "Suzuran" són les filles del matrimoni protagonista de "Lluna plena". No em sembla casual (ni cap descuit) que no s'especifiqui enlloc aquest fet, ja que l'autora sol escriure pentalogies que es poden llegir en qualsevol ordre i com a llibres únics. . Now They See Us by Balli Kaur Jaswal ⭐️⭐️⭐️ I love reading anything Balli Kaur Jaswal writes and I will always buy and read her books. She is one of my favourite authors. That being said I found Now They See Us to be an okay read. It is well written, researched and inspired by true events. Shedding light on the experiences and lives of domestic workers in countries such as Singapore. Who leave their home countries to help provide for their families. I found the subject matter and the core themes of the book interesting and what drew me to want to read the novel, and I love that Balli Kaur Jaswal has given these women a voice through her novel. 𝐃𝐮 𝐜ô𝐭é 𝐬𝐚𝐮𝐯𝐚𝐠𝐞, @authortiffanymcdaniel @editions_gallmeister Dites bonjour au coté sauvage, un roman qui va vous transporter dans un endroit abject, sombre, cruel mais emprunt d’une beauté incroyable dont seule cette autrice à le pouvoir. Chillicothe, Ohio. Nous faisons la connaissance de jumelles : Arc et Daffy. Ces deux jeunes filles vivent avec leur mère et leur tante, toutes les deux prises au piège de la drogue. En découle donc des conditions de vie affreuses : pauvreté, violence, dépendance, etc. Elles vont tenter malgré tout de fuir cet environnement sordide grâce au monde imaginaire qu’elles se créent. Mais, malgré leurs efforts, comment sortir d’un monde cruel tracé pour toutes ces femmes ? J’avais déjà pris une énorme claque en lisant Betty, mais cette fois je ne trouve pas les mots adéquats pour retranscrire ce que j’ai ressenti lors de cette lecture. C’est un roman d’une sororité incroyable, de femmes rassemblées dans la douleur, dans l’univers terrible dans lequel elles évoluent. Des jeunes femmes fortes et puissantes qui s’évadent dans leur monde imaginaire et qui sont liées par une amitié indéfectible malgré les fardeaux que chacune d’elle porte. Le personnage de Mamie Milkweed est d’une luminosité folle, elle procure de belles émotions à travers ses paroles. La grand-mère transmets à ses petites filles sa philosophie de vie à travers de jolies histoires, à travers la nature, elle leur apprend à voir le beau dans le moche. C’est un roman qui retrace le chemin d’un grand nombre de femmes, dépendantes à la drogue, qui doivent utiliser leurs corps pour s’approvisionner, qui subissent d’affreuses violences, qui se détruisent. Malgré tout, l’autrice décrit ses personnages non pas à travers leurs faiblesses mais à travers leurs forces, leur courage et leurs ambitions. À travers sa plume, Tiffany McDaniel rend hommage à toutes ces femmes, abandonnées par la société, par la justice, qui sont rejetées et maltraitées par les hommes. La plume de l’autrice est toujours aussi admirable et épatante. Elle nous ensorcelle par ses oppositions. Un talent puissant et unique. Un roman que vous ne serez pas prêt d’oublier.

Les jeunes vont prendre part à la guerre de Troie, combinant la sagesse de l’un et la colère de l’autre, attirant alors toutes les foudres des Dieux. ⚡️ . @madeline.e.miller rend cette histoire tellement concrète en redonnant vie à ces figures antiques, en nous dressant un portrait envoûtant et mystique, sur une atmosphère charnelle, délicieuse et intense d’émotions. 🩵 . On lit une merveilleuse histoire d’amour et d’abnégation. Je suis subjuguée par la plume incroyable de l’autrice, qui sait rendre réelle et accessible la mythologie pour tous. 🪶 . Mes mots sont faibles et ont du mal à sortir pour vous expliquer à quel point ce livre a été un coup de cœur, autant que Circé. 📝 . Je n’ai jamais lu une telle plume : c’est magistral. 📚 . Si vous avez envie de lire de la mythologie, c’est exactement ce par quoi il faut commencer, vous pouvez me faire confiance les yeux fermés 🫣. . Lecture n°26 – La dernière énigme de Gwendy de Stephen King et Richard Chizmar de 347 pages en format poche. Gwendy a 64 ans, a été élue sénatrice et participe à voyage spatial pour rejoindre une station orbitale. Elle transporte une mallette contenant des documents classifiés que la vedette n°2, un milliardaire qui a payé son voyage, lorgne régulièrement dessus. Dernier tome de la trilogie avec Gwendy qui met un point final à l’histoire de la boîte à boutons et de Gwendy. Si j’étais contente de retrouver ce personnage, j’ai mis beaucoup de temps à entrer dans le récit. Les chapitres sur le voyage spatial alternent avec des chapitres décrivant ce qu’il s’est passé pour que Gwendy devienne sénatrice et la raison de ce voyage. Puis on reste dans le présent du récit. Gwendy réussira-t-elle sa mission ? Il modo in cui viene rappresentato il disagio di Rhodes a causa della cicatrice mi ha tenuta stretta in una morsa, con l’intento di sensibilizzare a un tema così delicato, alla bellezza che risiede nelle cicatrici, all’autostima che ognuno di noi si merita. Un libro sul coraggio di rincorrere ciò che vogliamo, ricco di tensione, di spicy mozza fiato nei momenti giusti. Non vedo l’ora di proseguire con questa saga. E voi? La conoscete?

Carène Ponte nous emmène dans une aventure qui vient interroger chacun sur ce qui l'empêche de profiter pleinement de la vie (et pourquoi pas de partir à la poursuite de ses rêves?!) J'ai beaucoup aimé ce duo assez insolite formé par Ginger et Lola. Deux amies aux caractères bien différents et aux caractères finalement bien porteurs ! Ginger et sa force d'action, son esprit d'initiative et sa détermination. Lola et sa phobie maladive, ses névroses, ses craintes qui la maintiennent loin de la vie dont elle rêve finalement.... Et cette quête de sens,... la boucle qui se boucle. Cette histoire c'est aussi les rencontres, celles qui se font au coin d'une rue, les plus inattendues, pour quelques semaines mais aussi celles qui changent une vie. Sans oublier la bienveillance et l'humour, toujours présents dans les romans de Carène Ponte. Justo es eso lo que nos trae unos momentos muy duros que me han mantenido en una encrucijada constante. Holiiii holiiiii ‼️ Feliz domingo, hoy os traigo una recomendación, 𝘿𝙞𝙖𝙨 𝙨𝙞𝙣 𝙨𝙤𝙡 de @felixgarciahernan que llegó a mis manos a través de @alreveseditor a la cual le agradezco el envió del ejemplar. Ésta es una historia de esas que te absorbe, ágil, sencilla y con un gran ritmo. Su estructura es muy original y diferente ya que el lector va siempre por delante del investigador y eso me ha encantado. Félix mantiene la tensión en todo momento, para ello ha creado una trama bien hilada, con unos personajes simpáticos y carismáticos que conectan muy bien con el lector, es más te hacen sentir dentro de la historia, hasta el punto de hacerte reflexionar sobre si su modo de actuar es lícito y aún sabiendo que no lo es, puedes entender porqué actuan así y porqué lo hacen. Tengo que decir que me ha fascinado la pluma del autor, pero sobretodo me ha encantado la cercanía y el trato. @felixgarciahernan seguiré con tus libros. Charakterni i sympatyczni bohaterowie, urzekający motyw przemiany oraz ewolucja postawy bohaterki sprawiają, że z niecierpliwością czekam na ciąg dalszy. Dès les premières pages, j’ai accroché. À l’atmosphère envoûtante de l’Italie aux mille et unes saveurs, saupoudré d’un soupçon de fantastique grâce aux nombreux mystères entourant les sorcières, leurs pouvoirs et les dangers qui les menacent. À l’importance de la famille aux yeux d’Emilia. À la plume intrigante et fluide qui me donnait envie de tourner les pages pour découvrir ce que Kerri Maniscalco réservait à ses personnages. J’ai beaucoup aimé le mélange des genres réalisé avec subtilité par l’autrice. La fantasy côtoie habilement l’enquête, nous offrant des rebondissements et révélations efficaces sur ces deux aspects de l’intrigue. Les descriptions nous happent aux côtés d’Emilia et de Colère dans leur quête d’un meurtrier sanguinaire qui, dans cet univers dangereux, pourrait aussi bien être humain que démoniaque. L’univers est extrêmement intéressant, le système de magie employé par les sorcières, les princes de l’enfer, les malédictions et l’enquête sont addictifs à souhait. Malgré tout, ce premier tome reste très introductif sur ces aspects et j’ai hâte d’en apprendre plus dans le deuxième tome ! Idem en ce qui concerne les personnages, notamment Colère et les autres princes de l’enfer, que j’ai hâte de voir approfondis et plus exploités ! Enfin, j’attends avec impatience que l’enquête (et la relation 😉) d’Emilia et Colère évolue véritablement suite aux nombreuses pistes plus ou moins avortées suivies dans ce tome. Le royaume des Damnés est donc un premier tome de trilogie assez introductif sur de nombreux aspects mais surtout véritablement addictif ! L’univers intrigant, l’atmosphère dangereuse et enivrante, l’enquête aux multiples facettes, les personnages attachants et mystérieux. Et de nombreuses découvertes à faire ! Et si vous aviez l’occasion de retourner dans le passé ou d’aller dans le futur juste quelques minutes, sans pouvoir changer le présent, en suivant de nombreuses règles tel que revenir avant que le café refroidisse, le feriez-vous? Vous trouverez dans ce livre l’histoire de 4 personnes qui ont voulu en faire l’expérience et surtout ce que ça leur a apporté. De la description du café aux histoires de chacune des femmes qui se mêlent les unes aux autres, l’écriture vous emporte avec douceur et vous enveloppe tel un café doux et chaud. J’ai tout simplement adoré ce livre à la fois simple mais qui fait du bien. CRÉATION ET RÉDEMPTION. Il s'agit de la dernière œuvre de Dumas publiée en feuilleton dans le journal le Siècle entre 1869 et 1870. Et je dois avouer que j'ai été décontenancée par son début. Cela commence en 1785 dans une petite ville du Berry. Notre héros, Jacques Merey, docteur de son état s'intéresse au magnétisme et à l'alchimisme. Son chemin va croiser celui d'une enfant sauvage qu'il va baptiser Eva. Puis, tel un démiurge, il va la façonner et la rendre cultivée. Bien entendu, il n'échappe pas à l'effet Pygmalion et tombe amoureux de la jeune femme. Mais voilà leur bulle de bonheur est détruite par le retour de la famille d'Eva et par le fracas de l'histoire. Jacques est élu député à la Convention et part à Paris rejoindre son ami Danton. Autant je me suis ennuyée lors de cette première partie, autant je me suis passionnée pour celle consacrée à la Révolution. Dumas n'a pas son pareil pour nous raconter l'histoire. Et quand il parle de Danton, quel régal ! C'est une rencontre au sommet entre deux hommes à la faconde éclatante. Par le biais de Jacques et d'Eva, tous deux témoins d'une partie de la Révolution, on se retrouve au cœur de maints événements déterminants de cette période. Valmy et Dumouriez, les Girondins, Danton, Robespierre, Tallien, la joie post Thermidor...Dumas resuscite pour nous le climat de ces années particulières et nous fait entrer dans l'intimité de Danton et de Desmoulins. Il nous montre également l'atmosphère des prisons et nous livre des scènes saisissantes au pied de l'échafaud. Puis, il reprend le ton de sa première partie et revient à un propos plus moral et plus austère autour du concept de rédemption. C'est, je crois, la première fois que cela m'arrive: autant j'ai adoré le volet historique, autant j'ai tourné avec moins d'intérêt les chapitres consacrés à Jacques et Eva. Mais, bon, Dumas reste Dumas. Et quel pouvoir il a pour aborder notre passé ! Rien que pour les 500 pages consacrées à la Révolution, il faut lire cet ouvrage.

✨BOOK REVIEW✨ “Lessons in Chemistry” By Bonnie Garmus Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️ •I read this book for my local book club this month. I enjoyed it, and my favorite part was listening to the others in my book club who lived through the 1960’s and hearing their perspectives on the book. •I gave this book three stars, because even though I enjoyed the story there was a lot things that came together at the end that seemed very unrealistic and far fetched for me. Also, at times this book seemed to read more as a young adult book, but with darker traumas. On the positive side, surprisingly to me I loved 6:30 and he was one of my favorite characters in the book. 💛

Desde la primera página me dejó sin aliento y tan solo quería y necesitaba continuar para que mi corazón volviese a latir con normalidad. ¡Menuda fatiga! Leer a Javier Castillo es como estar en una montaña rusa pero de esas que dan vértigo, que te desbocan el corazón y que una vez bajas de ella solo logras decir wow y tardas un rato en volver a la normalidad. Así que si, se ha vuelto a pasar el juego. Su trama es trepidante, oscura y por momentos perturbadora… pensar que estas cosas suceden en nuestro mundo da realmente pánico… ¿cómo pueden existir personas así? Bueno, personas no, es que no tienen ni calificativo. Una vez más me ha vuelto a conquistar con todas las reflexiones que encuentras a lo largo de la novela. Son increíbles, de las que te hacen pensar, te llegan y no olvidas. Tiene tanto fondo esta historia y sus personajes que es una auténtica delicia leerla. Ha sido un viaje fascinante y con un final a la altura🥹❤️🩹 Podría decir muchas cosas de La grieta del silencio pero no quiero, lo único que quiero y pido con esta humilde y pequeña opinión es que te animes a leerlo.
