One of last week's reads was a comfort read with The Trellisane Confrontation by David Dvorkin. I've loved reading Star Trek novels since I was a kid and it had been a few months since I had last read one. I clearly needed my Trek fix as last week, I watched a TOS episode for the first time in a couple of years too! This book was a nice little read, although at 190 pages, it ended rather quickly and could have benefited from another 100 pages or so. 📚REVIEW📖 I can’t believe it took me so long to get to this book. I LOVED it! Absolutely could not put it down and read it in two days, which is super quick for me. It was not at all what I was expecting- I was thinking it was a drama about homelessness when really it’s a very well paced, twisty thriller. I was genuinely shocked when I got to the end of part one. ‘And just like that, I am nobody’. Lee is living out of her car, she’s lost her beloved New York restaurant with the pandemic, she’s bankrupt and estranged from her family. She’s all alone until one day she rescues a woman from the sea, a drowning suicide attempt. Hazel too is trapped, by a controlling and abusive husband. Lee and Hazel strike up an unlikely friendship, based on a need to escape their current situations. Michael Stevenson and his family have somehow survived and are now living among the predatory creatures. Michael Stevenson is glad that his family is back with him. From his family, he came to know that there is no life after death. A year ago, everyone disappeared including the animals. Only a small percentage of people survived. New creatures were created and they are the evil monsters. Michael, Teresa, Shelby and Lucy didn't expect a monster. When Teresa disappeared, Shelby wasn't sure if Michael would be able to rescue himself. She felt her sanity when she at least had the company of Lucy Stevenson. The story picked up pace when Lucy and Shelby met Max, Charlie and Pete. The creatures take us on the roller coaster ride in this novel. I am impressed with Andrew's writing. The story is so unique and interesting that you won't feel like putting this book aside. The world building is impressive and I loved the backdrop settings. *** Book Review *** ☆ "The Dark Feathers" by Rebecca Netley is my latest read, so I will leave here a little review. It's a historical fiction with mystery, paranormal and thriller elements and it was a combination I loved. The action takes place in a manor that it seems to be haunted and Annie, the main character and the owner's new wife who just arrived there, tries to understand why these things happen and what do they mean. I liked Annie and also Iris, her sister in law, who may seem weird at first, but she is very interesting, actually. I liked the atmosphere and the story and this is a book I would recommend. To pewnie jeden z powodów, że cykl Jakuba Ćwieka o Kłamcy czytałam niemal niezliczoną ilość razy. Oczywiście to powód niejedyny acz znaczący. I równie znaczący acz niejedyny powód entuzjastycznej reakcji na kolejną historię z Lokim w roli głównej. [Współpraca barterowa z @sqn_imaginatio ] Przed tą podróżą nie muszę pytać, czy leci z nami pilot. Ale zapnijcie pasy, bo to będzie jazda bez trzymanki. Zostawcie w domu mędrca szkiełko i oko, poluzujcie gumę w... wiecie, gdzie, i nie zapomnijcie zabrać poczucia humoru. A potem... enjoy the ride! Gdybym miała obrazowo opisać, czym jest ta książka, powiedziałabym, że autor zanurzył ręce w popkulturowym tyglu, zaczerpnął pełne garście motywów, a potem wykręcił je po swojemu i wycisnął z nich soki, tworząc własną, oryginalną i szalenie atrakcyjną kompozycję. Z jednej strony udało mu się odtworzyć ten przewrotny charakter serii, tak że nowa część doskonale się z nią komponuje, z drugiej jest mocno osadzona we współczesnych popkulturowych tropach. Jej zaletą jest to, że nie trzeba być specjalnym popkulturowym wyjadaczem, by rozpoznać nawiązania fabularne, z drugiej - im więcej o popkulturze wiemy i im bardziej jesteśmy świadomi pewnych mód i trendów, tym więcej smaczków możemy wyłapać i bardziej się nimi cieszyć. Bo autor gra z czytelnikiem nie tylko na poziomie fabuły tomu, w której Loki wplątuje się w trzy kolejne intrygi innych tricksterów, ale też właśnie bawiąc się tymi nawiązaniami. Dla mnie ten finał jest ze wszech miar satysfakcjonujący. Podoba mi się, jak Ćwiek wykorzystuje przewrotną naturę Lokiego, który wymyka się klasycznej binarnej wizji bohatera opartej na opozycji dobra i zła. Kłamca doskonale odnajduje się w szarej strefie pomiędzy i jest w nim ten lucyferyczny pierwiastek, który tak kapitalnie wybrzmiewa w słowach Goethego - "Jam częścią tej siły, która wiecznie zła pragnąc, wiecznie czyni dobro". . “Inverno” racconta la storia di Arthur che, per Natale, va in Cornovaglia dalla madre Sophia, ritiratasi nella grande casa in cui lei lo aveva cresciuto, teoricamente in compagnia di Charlotte, con cui però ha rotto, quindi porta con sé Lux, conosciuta poco prima. Lì, Lux si fingerà Charlotte e dimostrerà di essere una persona diversa da quella che sembra, perché conosce Shakespeare, ma non può permettersi di finire l’università dato che ha finito i soldi per studiare e non trova un nuovo lavoro perché è di origine croata e con l’imminente Brexit nessuno vuole assumerla, non sapendo se verrà rimpatriata. Sophia scoprirà cose di suo figlio Art che non conosceva, oltreché sensazioni nuove per la finta Charlotte, che apprezzerà invece come vera Lux e seppellirà l’ascia di guerra con Iris, la sorella che non vede da oltre trent’anni, ecologista convinta, che aveva abbandonato casa per via degli scontri col padre, che non ha perciò visto morire. Lo stile è moderno, come negli altri della quadrilogia, con assenza di punteggiatura, frasi lasciate sospese, anafore, giochi di parole, rime, canzoni ecc., ma quello che qui è una novità è che i dialoghi sono scritti prima dal punto di vista di un personaggio e poi in quello dell’altro e ce ne sono anche al futuro. Della quadrilogia, è forse il volume che tratta di più il tema politico, mentre la presenza di Iris fa sì che venga anche introdotta l’ecologia e la tutela dell’ambiente. Il romanzo richiama “Il canto di Natale” di Dickens all’inizio (nell’incipit) e alla fine (in una delle battute finali), come anche Dickens stesso, citato più volte. Anche in questo libro non ci sono legami con gli altri della quadrilogia, se non forse il fatto che in “Autunno” succede un po’ la stessa cosa quando Elisabeth vede uno spot pubblicitario che ha come colonna sonora “Fratello dell’estate sorella dell’autunno” con le parole di Daniel, per cui ne denuncia la violazione del diritto d’autore e che forse il vecchio Daniel di “Autunno” è il Danny di “Inverno”.

Coup de ❤️ Comme je l’avais écrit dans ma chronique de Anaïs Nin sur la mer des mensonges, c’est grâce au recueil je serai le feu 🔥 de @diglee_glittering_bitch publié chez @lavillebrule que j’ai découvert Anaïs. Mais pas seulement. Après l’avoir emprunté à la médiathèque de ma ville, j’ai décidé de me l’offrir dans le but de pouvoir le parcourir à l’infini. Dans ce somptueux recueil illustré par l’autrice elle même, Diglee nous propose de découvrir une cinquantaine de poétesses qui ont pour la plupart été effacées de l’histoire littéraire. Ces femmes sont réparties dans 8 catégories : les filles de la lune 🌒, les prédatrices, les mélancoliques, les magiciennes 🧙, les excentriques, les insoumises, les alchimistes du verbe et les consumées 🔥. C’est une anthologie subjective et non exhaustive que nous propose l’autrice, les biographies des poétesses sont courtes et présentent les passages marquants de leurs vies ainsi que leurs amoures. Ce recueil n’est pas froid, il brûle, il est construit avec le cœur et les tripes. (J’ai eu notamment un gros coup de cœur pour Marie Nizet dont je vous présente un poème.) Elles étaient le feu, merci Diglee de les faire revenir sur le devant de la scène 🧡
