Hatta kendisi bunu şöyle açıklıyor; “İçimin bir zamanlar ne kadar ölü olduğunu asla bilmediler, şimdi nasıl çiçek açtığımı da asla anlamayacaklar.” Bir insanın hayatının ve çevresinin içinde nasıl sıkıştığını o kadar güzel cümlelerde anlatmış ki, Zweig’in kalemine bir kez daha hayran oldum. Alma t1 - Timothée de Fombelle sp @gallimard_jeunesse_romans 🤍🤍🤍🤍🤍 J’ai été complètement happée par cet ouvrage et je ne l’aurai jamais cru ! C’est une histoire prenante et poignante ! On suit deux personnages que tout oppose mais dont les destins sont finalement liés. Alma, jeune africaine qui vit avec sa mère, son père et ses deux frères au coeur de la savane. Joseph, un marin qui va s’infiltrer sur un bateau pirate, en quête de fortune. Ça parle de la traite des nègres et de l’esclavagisme au 18e siècle, du commerce triangulaire, de pirates, de l’Afrique, de la notion de liberté et surtout d’une quête. Bref, c’est super intéressant et très instructif. Il faut se mettre dans le bain dans les 2/3 premiers chapitres afin de comprendre l’univers et l’enjeu du roman, mais dès qu’on a bien imprégné ce monde, les révélations fusent ! Tout au long du livre, c’est révélations sur révélations, on se rend compte que tout est lié, que tout a du sens etc. C’est complètement happant ! J’ai carrément adopté la plume de l’auteur qui nous plonge au coeur de l’action. C’est d’ailleurs une narration à la 3e personne afin de divaguer entre les points de vue de chacun des personnages qu’on va rencontrer dans le roman. Cela n’empêche pas de connaître les sentiments de ceux-ci. Bref, un roman happant et intriguant que je recommande vivement ! Dans ma chronique du premier tome d’Agatha Raisin (en octobre 2023), je vous expliquais que j’avais trouvé l’enquête plutôt longue à se mettre en place et le dénouement beaucoup trop facile à deviner. Tous les avis positifs que j’ai pu lire sur cette série m’ont finalement convaincue de donner une seconde chance à cette chère Agatha. Je me suis donc lancée dans la lecture de ce tome 2 avec beaucoup d’espoir et je n’ai pas été déçue. Résumé : « Notre Agatha Raisin est désormais bien installée dans son cottage de Carsely en compagnie de ses deux chats. Cerise sur le pudding, le nouveau vétérinaire du village ne semble pas insensible à ses charmes. Mais lorsqu’il succombe à une injection de tranquillisant destinée à un cheval, la police conclut à un accident. Pour Agatha, il s’agit bien d’un meurtre. Le séduisant colonel James Lacey partage pour une fois l’avis de son entreprenante voisine. Nos deux détectives-amateurs se lancent dans une enquête bien plus périlleuse qu’ils ne l’imaginaient.. » L’intrigue était à nouveau assez prévisible mais j’ai cette fois passé un agréable moment. 📚Book Review📚 Broughtupsy, by Christina Cooke, is a book released this year about going home when you haven’t quite discovered where home is. Akúa has recently had a family tragedy when her young brother dies. Her family had moved years ago to Canada, but her older sister Tamika decided to stay in their native Jamaica. After the death, Akúa decides to go back to Jamaica to try and reconnect with her sister and homeland. Does home define us, or can we truly be ourselves anywhere? I really enjoyed this novel. It quickly creates a wonderful sense of place. You can feel the sights, sounds, food, and heat of Jamaica. The writing is personal and urgent, letting us into these characters daily lives, trials, and dreams. I felt like I was eavesdropping on a family reunion where land mines are placed around every corner. Some are a welcome jolt, while others quietly devastate. Sometimes the manners of us keep you from living your most authentic self. That journey is one we all must take. I look forward to the next book by this talented author. Which makes for an interesting read. This book is very good at depicting he businesses of a station with the coming and going of strangers to the isolation and loneliness of being on a ship, with the themes of found family and light-heartedness running throughout. While trying to provent a war. The last 50ish pages were a little bit of a drag that could have wrapped up a little quicker. I didn't think sci-fi was for me until I read this book. Think I was just reading the wrong type. Q: Is there a true crime case you deep dived into? I do have a first preference of serial killers and serial rapist crime, followed by ‘womb raiders’, but also love the odd high profile murders. I was obsessed with the horrific murder of poor Travis Alexander in 2008, and then again in 2013 when the trial was finally had. I set my alarm for 1am every morning during, so I could watch it live 😂 Such a controversial case. The book written by the state prosecutor ‘Conviction’ was great, despite the later controversy with him. Almost Ruth by Tyler Jones @tjoneswriter The only bummer about this book was how long I let it sit on my shelf before I read it. The feeling of dread and trepidation throughout this story & the connecting novella (Wake Up) at the end was beautifully done. Any story that takes place mostly in a cemetery will have some level of haunting to it but this one took it to a whole different level. Without going into too much detail so I don’t spoil anything, the backstory for why things were occurring was very interesting and truly frighting. The male characters in this novel & novella are some of the most likable characters in any book I’ve read recently. If you are looking for a gothic, suspenseful, atmospheric read, you have to pick this one up! Just a heads up- some parts of this were so heartbreaking- I cried. Wer meinen Account schon etwas länger verfolgt, der weiß, dass ich die Tiermagier Reihe ungefähr jedem aufs Auge gedrückt hab, weil ich sie so unfassbar toll fand. Nicht umsonst wurden die Bücher mein Jahreshighlight 2021! Als dann ein vierter Band angekündigt wurde (obwohl die Reihe eigentlich in Band 3 ein würdiges Finale bekam), war ich völlig aus dem Häuschen und konnte es natürlich kaum erwarten, zu lesen, wie es mit den Tiermagiern, Cruor und den Bestiarien weitergeht. Die Reihe ist für mich Assassin's Creed meets Pokémon meets Phantastic Beasts und auch wenn das klingt, als könnte das nie zusammenpassen, so matcht es hier auf ganzer Linie. Flying The Nest by Rachael Johns Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Ugh, this book was so good. The beginning scenes of the noise of the house, being swept away by normal chores and having the ground break underneath you by your chosen partner in life is just crazy. The whole 'nesting' parenting approach I've heard similar methods before but this way was really interesting that is used in this novel. It's so weird! But separating parents just do what they can do, I guess, to make things as less challenging for their children as they can. There were times Ash really dang frustrated me with how much she tolerated from Adrian, so when she gets her kickass moments they are so, so satisfying. The romance is this novel is really lovely, too, and it's so tasteful. The scenery described is perfect, I love all of it! a non-fiction for a change, read this gem yearssss ago and reread it cos it’s just THAT good!!!! plot: maybe it was a grandparent, or a teacher, or a colleague. someone older, patient and wise, who understood you when you were young and searching, helped you see the world as a more profound place, gave you sound advice to help you make your way through it. for mitch albom, that person was morris schwartz, his college professor from nearly twenty years ago. maybe, like mitch, you lost track of this mentor as you made your way, and the insights faded, and the world seemed colder. Wouldn’t you like to see that person again, ask the bigger questions that still haunt you, receive wisdom for your busy life today the way you once did when you were younger? mitch had that second chance. he rediscovered morrie in the last months of the older man’s life. knowing he was dying, mitch visited morrie in his study every tuesday, just as they used to back in college. their rekindled relationship turned into one final “class” lessons in how to live. thoughts: this book was everything and more — i love me a good read that teaches valuable lessons and makes me reflect so much 💭 learning about things like family, emotions, marriage, even things like death & regrets etc. in this one from morrie’s lens was so moving 🥹 i believe that everyone needs a teacher/mentor in life to guide us through hardships, and show us how we can and should appreciate the good amidst all the bad. such a sad book, but also so uplifting. the funny thing is when i first read this when i was much younger, i gave it 3/5 stars and thought it was fiction, but only after rereading recently did i discover it was non-fiction 😂 and that made me so happy knowing that mitch ACTUALLY got to reunite with his professor many years after graduation and learn some of life’s greatest lessons from the old man 👴🏻🧑🏻 this book made me fall in love with mitch’s books, always looking forward to reading more from his backlist!! highly highly recommend, one of my fav books of all time 🙂↕️ 5/5 🌟

Guards! Guards! By Terry Pratchett ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I took this photo because it meant so much to me, I remember tearing up as I read it and my gallery just reminded me of it. This part of the book is so special, because it shows the power of hindsight. Visiting yourself from the future, knowing full well your concerns, your doubts, your fears or your sadness at that point in your life and having the knowledge to be able to soothe all of those thoughts in that moment. But, you can't, you have to live it, it's the natural order of life. Love at first Knight ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Really enjoyed this one and as somebody who struggles with social anxiety and often feeling a little like a loner, I really felt connected with Daisy. Especially with how she feels about personal contact and hugs 😅 I loved the enemies to lovers vibe and the slow burn romance in this book. There's no spice, but I didn't feel like it needed it, the story was cute and it focussed more on overcoming anxiety and learning to love and accept yourself for who you are. 🤍
