🩵🦋🧢🌊🫐 gooood afternoon!! happy monday! i hope you’ve all had a wonderful start to the week! the weather has been SO LUSH today, shame i’ve been working. the monday blues have been REAL — i am going to walk to pick my daughter up tonight though so i can enjoy it a bit 🌞 i do also only have one more monday of work until we leave for our honeymoon because the second one is another bank hol, so it’s not all so bad really! i haven’t done a blue monday post in a long ole while & i actually love blue book covers, so here we are! a mini update whilst i’m here too — i am currently reading ‘this summer will be different’. it’s wonderful!!! i am throughly enjoying it, as i do with anything that carley writes. i’m just under 20% i believe as i got side tracked watching ‘the idea of you’ (absolutely sobbed my eyes out if you wanna know lol - but it was really good!!) the book ends differently & i do already know how, so I will probably save myself the traumatic eye crying for a little while 😂 maybe i’ll add it to the list later on again! i also watched ‘anyone but you’ today & i highly recommend that to anyone! it was pretty good! i’m now really back into ‘unwritten’ by natasha bedingfield lol, iykyk! anyways, enough from me!! what are you guys reading & are you enjoying it? #bookreader #booklover #bookworm #readingcommunity #bookcommunity #booksbooksbooks #readingismyhappyplace #readingislife #ilovetoreadbooks #fictionreader #loverofbooks #inlibrislibertas #inbooksfreedom #readingisthebestthingever #beautifulbooks #readersgonnaread

ℂ𝕦𝕣𝕣𝕖𝕟𝕥𝕝𝕪 ℝ𝕖𝕒𝕕𝕚𝕟𝕘 I truly felt like I was never going to finish The Witcher’s prequel, but I did it. I finally did it! I’m hoping the rest of the books are better because otherwise 🤬. I just started reading Nettle and Bone. Completely unexpected, but someone from my partner’s work lent it to him. Of course, I have to read it too. I barely know anything about the book, except that it starts really weird. 💬 Have you read Nettle and Bone? I recently found out about Indiebookvault.com, a volunteer-run site dedicated to helping readers connect with independently authored and published books in multiple genres. There is so much more out there than it would appear based on what traditional publishers promote, and sites like this help broaden what is available to us. I am just getting started with this as both a reader and an author. #indieauthors #indieauthorsofinstagram #reader #fictionreader #readerlife

travel + books = pandemonium 🚘🧳🛣️🚏📚 every trip is the ‘perfect time to buy a book’ scenario if you make it that way, actually. did you know? in all seriousness, I cannot believe for the life of me I actually bought (now) 5 books this month. don’t know how it happened and why but here we are. it’s even worse when you just left the bookstore and started making plans to get the ones that you couldn’t get right away… like a maniac. anyways, i’m excited at how many reading options I have these days! i’m motivated and ready to try some that everyone’s been talking about. 📌 did you break your book ban lately because of one read that you just ‘HAD’ to have? which book was it? we’ve all been there🤝 mine was the foxglove king . . #thetravelers #roadtripusa #roadtripbook #travelbook #fictionbooks #fictionreads #fictionreader #contemporaryreads #whattoread #whattoreadnext #bookban #bookaddict #bookobsessed #bookstore #bookhaul #bookishlove #bookishthings #reginaporter #colorfulbooks #prettybookcover

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 2024 📚: 26 Flowers for Algernon by Daniel Keyes This book is an incredible thought experiment, and an impactful look at what makes us who we are. It’s an emotional read, but it didn’t get quite as deep as I would have liked, especially in the middle, and because of that it lacked some impact (though the ending definitely got to me 🥺). In a way this book feels like it was written exactly how this situation would happen in real life. Like it’s not a glossy, perfectly done story, but that makes it more real, which in its own way is incredibly impactful, though it also makes it a bit less enjoyable. I’m not sure if I would change anything, but I would also have liked some things to happen differently. I don’t know. So I’m a bit torn on whether to go with four or five stars. The concept is fantastic and I think it’s an important and valuable book, but my level of emotional connection to it is not at a five star level. So I think I have to go with four stars. But I definitely recommend it. You don’t need to be a science fiction reader to enjoy it, it’s a book for any and everyone 💐🐁💛 *Synopsis in the comments*

Honestly my reading life is kinda dramatic. 😂😜 (Also, I’ve already added more books to the stack since taking this photo 😂)

It actually IS a funny story 😂 I haven’t been able to dedicate much time to this novel until today, but 9 chapters into Funny Story and I’ve cackled out loud so many time. Something I love about @emilyhenrywrites is that her characters are so real. A big part of why I used to not care much for romance novels is because the characters didn’t feel authentic. But people like Daphne and Ashleigh? I love them and can see myself sitting at Cherry Hill dishing and laughing with them 😂🍷 And Miles? 😏 TLDR: I love these characters and want to be friends with them, so instead I’m setting for reading and laughing with them 😊 ——— #discoverpages #discoverculture #romancebookreaders #romancereadersarethebest #romancereadersofinsta #bookishfeature #bookwormsfeature #bookishmerchfeatures #henryemily #fictionreader #cozyreading #literarylife #toread #readaholic #loverofbooks #booksarelove #bookstafeatures #bookishfeed #bookaccount #hardback #igbookreview #bookreviewblog #amreading #bookishlife #readingchallenge #alwaysreading #bookcommunity #socalbloggersociety #visualcontentcreator #instagr

1770. Delphine lives in the shadows of London; a secret, vibrant world of smugglers, courtesans and small rebellions. Four years ago she escaped enslavement at a personal cost. Now she must help her brother Vincent do the same. When Britain's highest court fails to administer justice for Vincent, little rebellions are no longer enough. What's needed is a big, explosive plot - one that will strike at the transatlantic slave trade. Can one woman, one fuse and one match take down an empire? Set in London in the 1770's amongst its brothels, it's ports and its slums, this brilliantly written story is a reimagining of the gunpowder plot that had taken place over a hundred years before and questions how far we are willing to go for freedom. This tale highlights the plight of all those bought to Britain as slaves- the cruelty they experienced, the humiliation, the torture and the complete dehumanisation suffered at the hands of their owners. This is a book that will anger you, upset you and frustrate you at the injustice and inequality suffered by those enslaved. There were parts that had me crying, parts that had me shouting out in anger, but in the midst of all this angst and misery are stories of hope, bravery, love and friendship, and how, with the help and support of others we can overcome anything. A powerful and poignant story, tenderly and beautifully written- Elle Machray is a master storyteller who has bought to life a time in our history that was turbulent, tragic and horrific. I was enthralled from start to finish 🌟🌟🌟🌟 #bookreviewersofinstagram #bookreviewer #bookstagramuk #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #readersofinstagram #reader #bookish #bookishlife #bookobsessed #bookdragon #booklover #readinglist2024 #historicalfictionlover #historicalfiction #bookwhore #booknerd #bookworm #readersgonnaread #goodreads #mayreads #springreads #justagirlwholovestoread #justagirlwholovesherbooks #fictionlover #mustread #girlswhoreaddoitbetter #fictionreader

Bookstagram made me do it! I usually have a decent enjoyability score for the super-hyped books that float around the bookstaverse. If anything, they are usually entertaining and The Unmaking of June Farrow held up its end of the bargain for the most part. I found the plot points with the “unfraying” of time and timehole loops mildly interesting. I found the execution of said magic/sci-fi parts sub par while I enjoyed the journey of discovering who murdered who much more interesting. I only moderately liked the characters and wished they all felt a little more tangible. The love connection which leaned heavily into the romance was probably not my jam either with the exception of the one very romantic quote I included in the carousel. While the writing had its moments, too frequently it felt clunky and sometimes young-adult like. I’m not sure if listening contributed to that impression as a result of the narrator using a tremulous and clueless voice for the main character. So I guess in summary, it was a mildly entertaining read. ⭐️⭐️⭐️ Probably not my cup of tea but I didn’t totally hate it either. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Publication date: October 2023 Pages: 321 #theunmakingofjunefarrow #adrienneyoung #Nytimesbestseller #citycenterdc #magicalrealism #honestbookreview #booksof2023 #momsthatread #fictionbook #bookreviewblogger #fictionreader #dcbookstagram #goodreadswithaview #allbooked #bookslump

I finished A Clash of Kings last night (I’ll post a review soon) and oh my gosh the amount of relief I feel at not having any long/intense books going right now 😅☺️ I enjoyed it, but I’ve pretty much read eight super long and detailed fantasy books (plus Lonesome Dove) back to back (with just short pauses in between) over the last year, and I seriously need a break 😮‍💨 I’m so excited to read a bunch of less demanding and shorter books over the next few months. Though who knows, I might miss the chunky ones after a couple weeks 🤪 Happy Friday! Have some coffee, read a book, live your best life 😘📖☕️

𝐒𝐚𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐑𝐞𝐝𝐞𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝟔 ✨️ 𝑹𝒆𝒗𝒊𝒆𝒘 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑨𝒆𝒔𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒕𝒊𝒄 ✨️ "I never knew devastation until he walked into my world and gave me a glimpse into his. I never knew heart break until he decimated my heart by decimating his body." That preface is my thoughts exactly. These books devastated me. Joey Lynch broke my heart and put it back together again several times throughout this series. I had a soft spot for him from the second he was introduced in Binding 13 and I knew his books would break me but I didn't expect him to consume my every waking thought the way he has. That boy was dealt the absolute worst hand in life and lived through shit no one should ever have to deal with especially at such a young age, yet he overcame it all and remained the loving, protective, sweet boy he always was regardless of all his demons. Joey and Aoife will be going down in history as one of my favorite book couples of all time. The way they respect and love each other is unlike any other couple I've read about. Their connection is just different. Aoife is such a sassy, determined, independent, and fiercly loyal fmc. She's an absolute bad-ass and is everything Joey needed in his life. I love how she takes no shit and always holds him accountable for his actions. She encourages him to be better and do better without ever threatening to give up on him. He put her through the damn wringer, but her love for him never wavered for one second. No matter how hard he tried to push her away and save her from his life, she never once gave up on saving him. “I see you, Joey Lynch, You can’t hide from me. You can’t scare me away, You’re mine, remember?” Chloe is such a phenomenal author. Her writing pulls you right into their world and makes you live through every emotion they feel. I could see every character and every scene play out like a movie in my head. Aside from the emotional roller-coaster, the banter in this series is also so good. Gibsie once again had me laughing out loud and I just love Tadgh. He's such a mini Joey. Ok, I'm rambling at this point, but if you haven't read this series yet please do so!! I will never be the same again.

Chapter 32! I’ve had a lovely day celebrating my birthday today 🎂🥳🎈

5/8/2024, 7:58:45 PM

📚♥️The List by Yomi Adegoke ♥️📚 The List follows Ola, a high profile journalist and influencer (along with her fiancé Michael) as she grapples with a list that challenges her relationship and her trust. A crowdsourced list of abusers in the UK media industry that includes Michael’s name on it. ****************************************** Despite the unsettling content of this book I found it super easy to read. The dialogue flowed and the storyline swept me along with it. I thought the cultural references and language were brilliant and enlightening for me, a middle aged white woman who, whilst on social media, knows very little about black influencers and even less about black youth culture. I loved the different characters, even though flawed I think they were so well written. It kept me double guessing myself all the way along as to whether I should have any sympathy for Michael, but this is actually the point of the book! I felt for Ola and at times wanted to shake her! All of these intended reactions I believe. The sign of good writing. There are some harrowing parts so please read trigger warnings and the whole theme of the book is abuse in various different forms. It’s also a reflection of our cancel culture but also our awakening and cessation of accepting abuse and keeping quiet. Over all I really enjoyed the book and the fact it’s like nothing I have read before. The only reason it’s a 4 star rather than pushing a 5 is that I wasn’t keen on the ending. But I would recommend. What did you think of it? 📚 Book 23/52 of 2024 📚 ⭐️ 4/5 stars! 🌶️ 2.5/3 spice-o-meter! GENRE: sports romance SUMMARY: Maple Hills #1 🏒⛸ “Anastasia Allen has worked her entire life for a shot at Team USA. It looks like everything is going according to plan when she gets a full scholarship to the University of California, Maple Hills and lands a place on their competitive figure skating team. Nothing will stand in her way, not even the captain of the hockey team, Nate Hawkins [...] But when Anastasia’s skating partner faces an uncertain future, she may have to look to Nate to take her shot. Sparks fly, but Anastasia isn’t worried… because she could never like a hockey player, right?” FINALLY getting around to reading the hot booksta/booktok sensation 🔥 I have unfortunately put off writing this review so now its just ✨vibes✨ left. 🍑 PEACHES & PITS (likes and dislikes) 🍑 peaches: - such a cute lil’ romance - nate hawkins - yes, he has made the book boyfriends list - I do think there’s a lot of content that could be cut out to make a more concise story - but honestly, I REALLY enjoyed just being taken along with these characters and experiencing more lil’ moments with them —> it was really giving me the same feeling as a book I read last year (Things We Never Got Over by Lucy Score) where I was just in a nice lil’ sitcom/romcom tv series and getting to experience their lifetime - this one surprised me on level of spice (NOT judging) - in the uber with friends there?? ma’am wowie pits: - aaron sucks - there was a surprising amount of content re: dieting/food —> i get the point was the help highlight the importance of food as fuel but it was an unexpected portion of the plot - idk if it was because I was listening via audiobook, but I was mixing up characters a LOT. the hockey team was essentially one blob of semi-indistinguishable human personalities and then there a was another blob of also semi-indistinguishable female side characters. ✏️ ANNOTATIONS & SPARKLE TEXT ✏️ “Looking at her makes me want to be the funniest guy in the room, so I can be the one to make her laugh.” [more quotes on GoodReads & StoryGraph]

Written for Fantasy Image Prompt! Hosted by : @meh_poets_ & @scatterlyrics Limited to 50 words These photos looked like a story in 2 parts. Beginning with a woman, forced to serve someone that uses her power for selfish purposes. And ending with her having reclaimed full autonomy over her own life. Whilst also holding the reins over those that held her hostage as well as all who bore witness yet remained silently complicit in her sufferings. Fantasy is my favourite genres, and these photos made me think of Aelin Galathynius from the Throne Of Glass Book Series, by Sarah J Maas. I LOVED THIS BOOK! There are so many fantasy novels based around so many different cultures, but rarely do I see any that center around the Jewish culture. So when I stumbled across The Golem and the Jinni by @weckerh I was really excited, and it did NOT disappoint. Helene Wecker takes elements of Jewish mythology, weaves them together with Arab folklore, and drops everything smack in the middle of New York City. It's part fantasy, part historical fiction, part magical realism—and just wonderful. It's such a beautiful mingling of Yiddish and Middle Eastern vibes. I can't wait to read the second book in the series! #bookstagram #bookworm #bookrecommendations #magicalrealism #fictionreader #writerswhoread #kabbalah #jewishmysticism #alwaysreading #momswhoread #fictionreaders #fantasy #jewishfiction #historicalfiction #amreading #bibliophile #booklovers #whattoread #thegolemandthejinni

Quick book review: The Fox Wife ⭐️⭐️⭐️ I loved the dual point-of-view between the two mains at the beginning of the novel. The story started off intriguing, and gripped me along for the ride. However, I found that as I continued reading the story, I started loosing interest. I was a bit more engaged with Snows story more than I was with Detective Bao's. The story confused me a bit once I got through 60% of it, but it kept me going because I wanted to know what would happen. The ending was meh. #bookreview #book #bookstagram #booklover #fictionreader #ilovebooks #bookishpost #bookworm #bookaddict #bookcommunity #booksta #booklife

🟢 Green Dot 🟢 I read Green Dot a few weeks ago and I enjoyed it! It’s about Hera, a 24 year old woman who gets caught up in a passionate affair with her much-older married colleague. Hera is perhaps a bit of a spiky character, but I liked her. She’s smart, but she’s young, so she’s also kind of stupid, and what’s more relatable than that? Her relationship with her Dad is also a big part of the book and I loved that element of the story. I would recommend for fans of The Rachel Incident and Really Good, Actually. If you’ve read it and have opinions, I’d love to chat! ☺️ • [id: Halli’s hand holds up Green Dot by Madeleine Gray. In the background of the photo is a creek and forested area.]

AD/PR #gifted #ad Miracle Number Four Paul Marriner Question 1 Are you in any way musical? I guess you could say I am and have been. I absolutely love music, this weekend I went to see @sixthemusical and @wickeduk in the west end 🎭 I have played the recorder in primary school and can still bash out a couple of songs. I also can play some very basic songs on the clarinet. I still have it and get it out from time to time 🎶 🌸 BLURB 🌸 A song of the suburbs: a story of family, friends, first love, tragedy, hope and rock and roll
It’s 1976 and with dreams of a career in rock, a crush on the prettiest girl in town, and a mother in remission from cancer, Mike’s future looks bright. Music brings excitement and a chance to shine, but life off-stage is complicated. Together with family, friends and band-mates, Mike finds joy, sadness and loss. Troubling secrets surface while a new friend brings both fresh perspectives and a cruel reality. The radios and pubs blast rock into the suburban nights and the band prepare for their big break. Is Mike ready? A warm, thoughtful, questioning novel; a reminder of simpler days, complicated emotions and music of a generation. #Upmarketfiction #readalong #LBTcrew #paulmarriner #miraclenumberfour #miraclenumberfourreadalong #fictionreader #betweenkirstyscovers #booksbooksbooks #bookobsessed #bookaddict #ihavenoshelfcontrol #bookishpost #bookstagrammer #bookstagram #bookloversofinstagram #bookworm #storygraph #goodreads #bookreview #bookreviewer #2024readinggoals #ukbookstagram #alwaysreading

4.5/5⭐️ This story has been attempted before but not in this way. It’s a beautiful haunting novel about love, loss & family all in one. I absolutely love this writing style and the interlude in the story was exquisite. It would have a full 5 if it ended a little better. I feel like the ending seemed a little dragged out & didn’t need to be as long as it was. However; the rest of the book is beautifully written and haunting. I wish there was *more* of a horror aspect to this book as it ended up reading more like fantasy in the end. The pacing in the beginning read so much like a horror novel I was excited & quite scared of “The Hungry Man” and then ended up being a little disappointed in the arc of his character. The characters are great. I love Wyn & I loved all the dialogue as well as the twists throughout the story. Thank you NetGalley & the publisher for the ARC!

Book Review🍹 💅🏾Bridges are for burning💅🏾 My thoughts: i have never been this excited to have a copy of a book!! It sparked that curiosity in me, the more I read the more my pleasure grew🫢 I’ve seen a lot of comparisons between this and Wahala by Nikki May. because of the friendship plot between 3 women, three secrets, three lies.(In the lives of Gigi, Fifi and Alana)😂☕️ A good read that commands attention, enjoyed that I could relate with little details about Lagos lifestyle setting. I had my expectations but it was a good thing that everyone get what they deserved at the end. Book #3: I will really like to see it in a movie🫦 Also love the part the author emphasized on Art Culture😍🫧 A good novel for friendship, infidelity, loyalty, secrets, lies and blackmail⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ #readerlife #readersofinstagram #bookreader #fictionbooks #africafiction #fictionreader #sigmaart #bookreview

📚When God Was A Rabbit by Sarah Winman📚♥️ Spanning four decades, from 1968 onwards, this is the story of a fabulous but flawed family and the slew of ordinary and extraordinary incidents that shape their everyday lives. It is a story about childhood and growing up, loss of innocence, eccentricity, familial ties and friendships, love and life. Stripped down to its bare bones, it’s about the unbreakable bond between a brother and sister. *************************************** Another triumph by Sarah Winman. As usual it’s bursting with quirky, eccentric often dysfunctional characters and centres around Elly and her family and her friendship with her best pal Jenny Penny. After reading Still Life I wondered if I would enjoy this one as much. I absolutely did. The story itself is rich and unusual and wonderful and semi magical but also real and heartbreaking throughout. I marvel at her characters, I want to hang out with these people they are so interesting and funny and the overriding theme throughout is how much they love each other and how much heart they have. There’s twists and turns and life changing events and I struggled to put this book down. I love when a book gives me all the feels and this one did. And some. A brilliant book that I would highly recommend and an easy 5 Stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ #bookreview #bookreviewer #bookstagram #book #booklover #bookworm #reading #read #bookrecommendations #bookreviewsbyserene #bookstagramuk #bookaddict #library #goodbooks #fictionbooks #readersofinstagram #bookish #ukreader #fictionreader #audiobook #paperback #kindlereader #kindleaddict #goodreads #storygraph #sarahwinman #whengodwasarabbit #stillife

4.25/5 🌟 A dark and hilarious commentary on life, struggle and death… Longlisted for the @womensprize this year is @effie_black_ ‘In Defense of the Act’ - at work I’m currently hosting a shadowing group for the Women’s Prize, and this was the book I chose to read and feed back on! The novel follows the character of Jess - a researcher into suicide in animals and insects. Throughout the novel, she perpetually promotes and endorses the benefits of suicide, presenting different dark and at times absolutely hilarious anecdotes that have led to her opinion - until something happens that changes her perspective entirely… This book is really hard to review without spoiling anything, as it is a short novel, but a whole lot of events and drama take place. I found the way in which Black was able to weave little intricacies, as well as moments of belly laugh humour into a book on such a sensitive topic - and treat this topic with care and delicacy. When I finished this, it really took me a few days to recover because I was left with almost an ache in my chest, very similar to how I felt after reading A Little Life. I’ve spoken to so many people about this book since and am such an advocate for it - it’s utterly brilliant and will stay with me for a long time. It only loses 0.75 of a star because I didn’t want it to end and needed more closure! Nonetheless, an absolute marvel and a book I will not stop banging on about to any and all - highly recommend!!

Thank you very much @netgalley for the Advanced Reader Copy of Sandwich by Catherine Newman. Rocky is a writer and has spent many years doing a week long family vacation on Cape Cod. This year she is there with her husband, adult son and his girlfriend, adult daughter, and her elderly parents. It is not an extravagant vacation, but they love it and the best part is the traditions they have built over the years. ✨BOOK REVIEW✨ Emily Austin’s “Interesting Facts about Space” is intensely human and wildly funny. It follows Enid, a lover of true crime and space, as she navigates dating, complex family issues, and mental health. I relate to Enid on a visceral level, her anxieties, her thought processes, her humour, and the chaotic nature of her life. Austin’s characters are so well thought out and authentic, I think most people would be able to relate to Enid in some capacity or another. “Interesting Facts about Space” has several intertwining plot points, but it never felt like they were competing—there’s friendships, a love story, family relationships and more… and yet, they all flow seamlessly. This book is fantastic, and I think you should read it asap. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ / 5 I’ve been giving out quite a few 5 stars lately, but I genuinely think this book might be one of my favorites…ever? On a side note, this novel reminded me a lot of “Really Good Actually” by Monica Heisey (which was also a 5 star read), so if you liked that one, I think you’ll love this one! #emikaustin #interestingfactsaboutspace #bookstagram #bookreview #literaryfiction #litfic #bookrecommendations #fictionreader #fivestarread #smallbookstagram #biblophile #relatablecharacters

𝐋𝐨𝐧𝐠 𝐀𝐟𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝗪𝐞 𝐀𝐫𝐞 𝐆𝐨𝐧𝐞 by Terah Shelton Harris. Thanks to @bookmarked for the gifted Arc ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⁣ ⁣ When King Solomon dies, his last words are “don’t let the white man take the house”. Now the Solomon siblings are trying to stop just that, after King died without a will and a developer is after their ancestral home. ⁣ ⁣ I love fiction where you learn facts about society, as disconcerting as they can be. This story is about heir property, which while the story itself is fiction, is the leading cause of involuntary land loss to Black Americans. In my privilege bubble, I had no idea about this concept but I’m glad I was made aware, especially through an entertaining story and family drama. Every sibling was unique and each had their own issues going on. I wish we spent a little bit more time with Tokey, as her backstory was interesting to me. ⁣ ⁣ “𝘛𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦’𝘴 𝘢𝘯 𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘦𝘭 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘥𝘦𝘷𝘪𝘭 𝘪𝘯 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺 𝘧𝘢𝘮𝘪𝘭𝘺 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘥𝘰𝘯’𝘵 𝘨𝘦𝘵 𝘵𝘰 𝘥𝘦𝘤𝘪𝘥𝘦 𝘸𝘩𝘪𝘤𝘩 𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘢𝘳𝘦. Granada throwback special - Ripe by @sarahroseetter. Read this a few weeks back but it keeps repeating on me. A woman trying to live her life, working at a start-up, while a black hole follows her around. Structured using the anatomy of a pomegranate, it’s an incredible, tense, relentless novel that sneaks up on you and squeezes the life out of you. ‘As always, I wake to the ghost of the chef: his scent on the sheets and a dent on a pillow. It is almost as if he is an event that never happened, a timeline I never lived, just a love I experienced during a dream.’ p83 ‘How does anyone bear themselves? Thank you very much @netgalley for the Advanced Reader Copy of The Trail of Lost Hearts by Tracey Garvis Graves. We meet Wren when she is beginning a solo hiking trip. We quickly learn that her fiancé has recently died. A little later on we find out more about him-but that’s kind of a spoiler so won’t reveal that here, but it’s big. Wren really wants to do this on her own, but she runs into a scary situation on the first day, and is rescued by a man who seems to good to be true. The story goes on from there, and it is not a smooth road. Daughter of Mine by Megan Miranda is a thriller. Hazel’s stepfather has just died, and she discovers that he has left his lake house to her, leaving out his two biological sons. Her mother left her with this family when she was 8 years old, soon after her marriage to the stepfather, and has not been heard of since. She goes back to the town to see if she can figure out why, and discovers that there is a lot going on that she didn’t know about. An important part of the novel is the weather-a drought is taking place and the lake is drying up. Long buried things start to turn up, and there may be new answers to some long standing questions. Kept me reading and I did not guess the end. #daughterofmine #meganmiranda #bookstagram #booklover #reader #bookblog #lovetoread #fictionreader #bookreview #bookrecommendation #readersofinstagram #bookloversofinstagram #takeapagefrommybook #readallthebooks #booksbooksbooks #booksofinstagram #bookwormproblems #bookaholic #booknerd #whattoread #readingtime #bookaddict #ilovetoread #ilovebooks #needtoread #readallday

I read James by Percival Everett, a Pulitzer Prize finalist. James is another take on the Mark Twain character Jim, the slave in Huckleberry Finn. The story is told from James’s perspective, and we see a very different person than we saw in Twain’s work. James is on the run as an escaped slave, and as smart as he is, he knows that he has to act subservient and “dumb” to get along. It’s quite an adventure, and there a ton of challenges. I seem to be in the minority, but I did not love this book. I did finish it, but it was not my favorite. I have heard that the audio was great, so maybe would recommend trying that? #james #percivaleverett #marktwain #bookstagram #booklover #reader #bookblog #lovetoread #fictionreader #bookreview #bookrecommendation #readersofinstagram #bookloversofinstagram #takeapagefrommybook #readallthebooks #booksbooksbooks #booksofinstagram #bookwormproblems #bookaholic #booknerd #whattoread #readingtime #bookaddict #ilovetoread #ilovebooks #needtoread #readallday
