we came here to forget-andrea dunlop ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 1/30/23-2/3/23 🌺review🌺 this book was solid. i adored the “past” part of this book. i had such a hard time with the “present” part because the past was so addicting. i found the present really boring at parts and wanted to skim to get to the past. i didn’t have patience for the characters in the present because i was thinking about the past parts, but i thought the author tied the two well together in the end. so overall, i didn’t hate this book, but i think i would have liked it more with out the present part. 🌺synopsis🌺 Katie Cleary has always known exactly what she wants: to be the best skier in the world. As a teenager, she leaves her home to live and train full time with her two best friends, all-American brothers Luke and Blair, whose wealthy father has hired the best coaches money can buy. Together, they are the USA’s best shot at bringing home Olympic gold—as well as a love triangle waiting to happen. But as the upward trajectory of Katie’s elite skiing career nears its zenith, a terrifying truth about her sister becomes impossible to ignore—one that will lay ruin not only to Katie’s career but to her family and her relationship with Luke and Blair. With her life shattered and nothing left to lose, Katie flees the snowy mountainsides of home for Buenos Aires. There, she reinvents herself as Liz Sullivan, and meets a colorful group of ex-pats and the alluring, charismatic Gianluca Fortunado, a tango teacher with secrets of his own. This beautiful city, with its dark history and wild promise, seems like the perfect refuge, but can she really outrun her demons? Told in alternating chapters, Katie grows up, falls in love, and races down the highest peaks on the planet—while Liz is reborn, falls into lust, and sinks into the underground tango scene at the bottom of the world. From the moneyed ski chalets of the American West to the dimly lit milongas of Argentina, We Came Here to Forget explores what it means to dream, to desire, to achieve—and what’s left behind after it all disappears.

We Came Here To Forget by Andrea Dunlop Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (4 out of 5) So we’ve discussed Andrea Dunlop here before (She Regrets Nothing) and I just love her books and her writing style! This is a beautifully written book about an Olympic skier who runs away to Argentina to hide from her past - and becomes entangled with a group of ex-pats. I would also highly suggest this if you are in a reading slump - it’s not quite contemporary fiction but it has more substance than a fluffy fiction book and is most definitely not a thriller! Guys, this one is a real winner! #wecameheretoforget #andreadunlop #whatsemilyreading #booknerd

Dèjà book 🎿 - I heard an interview with Andrea Dunlop back in 2019 on @badonpaperpodcast. Once I learned the protagonist was a champion skier and it had a psychological element I knew I wanted to read it. I told myself I’d forget about it. Sure enough, I came across it again and checked it out from the library. Turns out I didn’t wait quite long enough because I had the sensation throughout that I’d read the book before AKA dèjà vu-ok. Even with that feeling I still enjoyed it - especially because it helped be mentally escape the heatwave. 4⭐️ - #books #reading #currentlyreading #bookstagram #summerreading #summerbooks #neverstopreading #nyc #booksinny #bookishmoment #nyl #library #lovemylibrary #librarybooksarethebestbooks #wecameheretoforget

Dunlop has created an enthralling story, centralised around elite athlete Katie, the connection with her career as a professional skier and the multifaceted relationship with her sister. This book has set itself aside from others I have read for several reasons. The first, the focus on both elite skiing and the colourful city Buenos Aires. And the second, how much I felt myself feeling as I was reading this book. I think authors that make the reader feel genuine emotion throughout the entirety of the book are treasures! I found myself caring for Katie and felt that Dunlop made sure the reader did so deeply. I was quite sad when this book ended, and I wondered about Katie and how she was going after I finished the book (always a good sign!) If you’re looking to branch out and experience a really unique and fascinating story line, something that you can wholeheartedly dive into, then this is the book for you! . . . . . #bookview #readnew #bookaddict #bookrecommendation #bookworm #bookshop #booklife #booklove #bookstagram #bookshelf #book #review #readmorebooks #reviews #booksta #bookstagram #reading #fiction #romancebooks #authorfocus #library #wecameheretoforget #andreadunlop

“It is comforting in a way that defies words. It feels like a hug, if a hug were a place.” P383 Thank you @antipodeanbookclub for tagging me for the #cosystack challenge (a couple weeks ago). (The above quote I just read and had to add it to the post. What perfect timing!) This is my favorite cozy… a cup of tea (this is my favorite - zen tea by @tazo - it is really calming and nice), snuggling with my two dogs, a blanket, and of course, some of my favorite books. When I chose my instagram name for this account, these were things I was thinking about, that make me feel comfort and happy. Hopefully, finishing up The Starless Sea today. It’s been a fun buddy read with @books.are.word.tacos ♥️ I can’t decide how I feel about it. I love all the book descriptions and the idea of this unbelievable library under the Starless Sea. So much unique imagery. Wishing you a cozy weekend as well. ✨ BOOK REVIEW ✨ • Title: We Came Here To Forget Author: @andreadunlop Genre: Womens fiction/Mystery Thriller • ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫/5 • First of all, I am now a fan of Andrea Dunlap. I enjoyed her writing style a lot, she is very talented! I really didn’t think I was going to love this book as much as I do! I got it at the thrift store for only $2 so I was skeptical but wow I hit the jackpot! We Came Here to Forget is a story that proves we all have inner demons & a past that we wish we could forget. I was intrigued from the first chapter honestly. I typically get bored with novels that go from current to the past, I did not feel that way at all with this one. I was constantly looking forward to the next chapter in both settings. The hints that were dropped all throughout regarding the families big secret was subtle and cleverly used throughout. I also really enjoy books that are in first person POV, I feel as if they draw your attention in more & you feel like you’re there with them throughout the whole thing! I don’t want to give away too much, all I will say is this author had the potential to make this a 5 star read. She fell short on the ending though, it was very underwhelming. Typically I complain that endings feel rushed in most books, in this one I felt like there wasn’t enough sadly. Overall I really did enjoy this book & would recommend it to anyone who enjoys drama, romance & overcoming family tragedies. • #wecameheretoforget #andreadunlap #bookreview #familytragedy #romance #womensfiction #bookstagram #mayreads #books #ohio #bookbabes #bookrecommendations #romancebooks #mystery #booksofinstagram

A photo from the launch of WE CAME HERE TO FORGET and a story I've not shared before. I was extremely on edge this night for reasons that had nothing to do with my usual launch jitters. I'd been candid about the fact that this book was inspired by my own life and my sister was not happy about it. At the time, I'd never spoken to anyone else who'd been through a situation like mine and I knew if I felt this alone with it, others did too. I was worried my sister would show up to disrupt things, and my eyes were scanning the crowd the whole time I was on stage with my dear friend @theeverywhereist. I didn't see her and wouldn't find out until having lunch with an old friend a few days later--one of the only people there who would have recognized her-- that in fact my sister was there: making it the first time we'd been in the same room in almost a decade. I said on stage that I'd felt up until that moment that I was at the end of a long journey, only to realize that I was right in the middle of one. The journey continues tomorrow. Wish me luck.

I was so excited when one of my favorite bookstagrammers @antipodeanbookclub tagged me for the #spinesandsnippets challenge, because her posts are so lovely (see it in my stories - also see original challenge by @ahatforeveryread ). I wanted to pay a bit of homage to her, so I got flowers from @wholefoods (I love their mini bouquets). 📚This challenge is listing quotes with book spines. I tagged a few people who I would love to see your favorite quotes and spines. 🌷 “That’s what we’re all trying to figure out. It’s what everyone comes to this city for: to forget who they were, become someone new.” We Came Here to Forget 🌷 “we must imagine for one another seventy excuses before landing on a single judgment, and also, on that night, he told his companions to refrain from condemning a man, even as he staggered by showing proof of his sin, because they could not know if he would repent when alone, or fathom what existed in his heart.” A Place at the Table 🌷 “And yet, by trying to hide the truth, our family had prevented itself from ever moving forward into the future.” The Lost Vintage 🌷”In the times of greatest darkness, the light always shines through, because there are people who stand up to do brave, decent things…in moments like this it doesn't matter what you were born to be. “ Forest of Vanishing Stars I love book quotes and always save them in Goodreads or Storygraph so I can go back to them. (I know I won’t keep track of highlights or remember what I loved in such detail later). I don’t keep lots of books that I have read though. I either pass them on to friends - or soon, I’m going to be putting out my new Little Free Library. So excited for that. But these are all 5⭐️ or special reads for me. ♥️ 📚What is one of your favorite book quotes? #bookquotes #wecameheretoforget #andreadunlop #aplaceforus #fatimafarheenmirza #thelostvintage #annmah #theforestofvanishingstars #kristinharmel

📚BOOK CHALLENGE📚 I accepted the challenge from @mama_loves_her_books to share my love of books by posting 11 books in 11 days ♥️ ✨Today I challenge @sincerlybooked and look forward to seeing your posts! 🗓 DAY 1: We Came Here to Forget ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ “That’s what we’re all trying to figure out. It’s what everyone comes to this city for: to forget who they were, become someone new.” P157 I read this book the summer of 2020 and it was everything I needed to escape the world of Covid and dream up a trip to Buenos Aires. I went to the liquor store and got ingredients to make the drinks mentioned in the book; I looked up lots of places from the book; I was all but there. Before this book, I had never thought about going to Buenos Aires and now it’s on my bucket list. I am not a re-reader, but I would read it again! Thanks @andreadunlop for the escape! . So, is it really worth it to go by a bookstore and buy books when you can buy them just with a few clicks?   For me, yes totally. I visit the store for its ambiance, smell, and diversity. Being surrounded by books bring me so much joy, touching every book, reading the blurbs, and even getting a great recommendation from the staff... all these things make it so special. But I do have to admit online shopping has so many benefits and so many offers. I found We Came Here To Forget to be different from any other story I’d read before, and I really, really liked it. Told in dual timelines, we follow the present day story of Katie, escaping the difficulties of her life by taking off to Buenos Aires and joining up with a crew of mostly ex-pats who are escaping their own troubles. The other timeline tells Katie’s life story, eventually catching readers up to the events that led to her departure from the States. The unfolding of her life story was really well done and the band of friends she gathered around herself while she recovered were very relatable, giving me lots of characters to root for along the way. 🎉 The story of the main character’s relationship to her sister is even more powerful knowing the author had a similar experience with her own sister. @andreadunlop made this specific mental illness incredibly accessible to the reader, pulling us along in her experience. 💔 I listened to this one on audio and it was narrated by the very popular, Julia Whelan. Her accolades are very well deserved. 🎧 I gave this book 4 stars. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ #bookstagram #readersofinstagram #librarylover #audiobook #wecameheretoforget @andreadunlop @justjuliawhelan

✨𝘞𝘌 𝘊𝘈𝘔𝘌 𝘏𝘌𝘙𝘌 𝘛𝘖 𝘍𝘖𝘙𝘎𝘌𝘛✨ {thank you @atriabooks for my free book} 📖 Happy Friday!! At least for some of you. I have an eyebrow appointment right after work and an appointment tomorrow for new tires but that’s about it! I’m hoping to get plenty of reading in over the weekend even though I’m already at 11 books for the month. 🙊 I’ve become a reading machine! - RATING: 4/5 ⭐️ REVIEW: I have loved Andrea Dunlop ever since I saw her in an author event a few years ago with my friend, so I have zero idea why it took me so incredibly long to get to We Came Here to Forget. This book doesn’t just have a beautiful cover, it was surprising and emotional as well. I was immediately sucked into Katie’s story, and I listened to the audiobook in only two sittings. It also didn’t hurt that the audio is narrated by one of my favorites, Julia Whelan. I really liked the way the book was structured with Katie’s present time as ‘Liz’ in Buenos Aires, as well as chapters from her past. Little by little, we find out what happened in her family and it was not at all what I was expecting. We Came Here to Forget is a beautiful work of contemporary fiction mixed with a bit of mystery, and there is a darker tone to the story that I was intrigued by. I love the way Dunlop writes and this book has a little bit of everything. There is heartache, joy, romance, sadness and so much more that I couldn’t possibly list everything. I really liked Katie as a character, and I ADORED the setting in Buenos Aires. I feel like I learned a lot of things I didn’t know about it and I loved the way Dunlop brought it to life through the eyes of Katie. I was expecting more about Katie’s Olympic career, but the focus was more on her sister Penny as well as what happens during her time in Buenos Aires. All in all, this was a heartbreaking, but also heartwarming novel and I loved the journey it took me on. •• #bookreview #bookrecommendations #wecameheretoforget #finallyfriday #weekend #beautifulbooks #favoriteauthor #audiobooks #andreadunlop #readingtime #lovetoread #bookstagram #bookcommunity #bookishphotography #thrillerbookfriends #audiobookstagram #bookblog #booksarelife #reader

We Came Here to Forget is a mystifying and engaging novel by Andrea Dunlop. It follows a young competitive skier who leaves her charmed mountain life for Argentina, hoping to forget the pains of her past. It is part mystery, part personal growth story, and thoroughly entrenched in Buenos Aires’ expat lifestyle. I have paired this book with the Argentinian Chardonnay El Enemigo, a spicy, racy boundary pushing wine that leaves a lasting impression. This pairs so well with the main character of this book and her search to understand the enemy - el enemigo - that lives within all of us. #andreadunlop #wecameheretoforget #argentinianchardonnay #elenemigo #atriabooks #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #booksandwine #bookclub #wineandbooks #skireads #braveliteraryworld

Happy Super Bowl Sunday! I’m rooting for the Bucs today, but mostly I’m just watching for all of the Super Bowl food. 🤤 I made a “Loved this book? Try this show!” over the summer. It’s remained one of my favorite posts I’ve ever done, so I figured it was high time for a round two! I took some of my favorite reads and/or shows and found the perfect pairing for them. I’m not going to spoil the pairings right here, so swipe to see ‘em all, but they’re all connected by some fun themes including: ☆ If you like a historical romance ☆ If you can’t get enough of The Bachelor ☆ If you’re into a haunted house moment ☆ If you’re a true crime devotee ☆ If you’re a regular TLC viewer (tbh, a very niche interest) And since we’re talking TV, what are y’all watching lately? I finally caught back up with The Bachelor and even though my fave Southern Charm just ended, Summer House started back up, so if you need me, I’ll be watching Bravo.

Another quarantine/caregiver leave read was @andreadunlop’s #wecameheretoforget. This novel is equal parts women’s fiction and suspense, which is my favorite blend of genres to both read and write! I also think it makes for great book club discussions. Dunlop’s novel had solid plot twists, but more than that, I loved the character development of this one. I could feel the weight of Katie’s dilemma and could empathize with her choices. What’s your favorite genre?

📝Review: We Came Here to Forget⁣ ⁣ After reading and really enjoying She Regrets Nothing, I was excited to read We Came Here To Forget by Andrea Dunlop. I was really intrigued by how the book started, knowing something happened with Katie’s sister, and wanting to get to the bottom of it. Normally, I enjoy dual timelines, where the chapters alternate between past and present: the present dealing with the aftermath, and the past slowly uncovering what exactly led to that. However, in this book, I found myself more interested in the past story of Katie and her sister, and rushing through the parts the follow Liz in Buenos Aires in present day. I also felt a little let down by the reveal towards the end. I guess one might argue that this is a more character-driven story, especially in the present chapters, but as a plot-driven book lover, I was left wanting a bit more.⁣ ⁣ Have you read this? Did you feel the same way I did or enjoy it more (or less)?

We Came Here to Forget ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I wasn’t sure what to expect going into this read but it surprised me! I knew it was about a woman, Katie, who spontaneously moves to Buenos Aires to escape her past, but there was a lot more to this book than that. It had a dark side to it, touching on family crisis and mental health, but also the positive notes of new and old loves, friendships and fresh starts. It was a bit of an emotional rollercoaster but I was so invested in Katie that I was along for the ride! We Came Here To Forget by Andrea Dunlop ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I finished the audio book of We Came Here To Forget and immediately wanted to know more about each character. I loved all the different story lines and how they all came together. I honestly had low expectations for this novel and came out loving it! #wecameheretoforget

👩🏻‍💻 I’m six months & a day into working from home, & I still can’t wrap my head around it. I miss my office life & seeing my work friends in person. ✨ But no commute means more time for reading. WE CAME HERE TO FORGET was one of my five-star reads from the early days of quarantine (& a favorite read of the year). The alternating story timelines had me racing through this one, & I appreciated the rich culture & descriptions of Buenos Aires in a time when we can’t travel. And what a gorgeous book cover! ✈️ Who else is planning a post-quarantine trip to Argentina thanks to this book? • • • #wecameheretoforget #andreadunlop #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #chicagobookstagram #quarantinereads #buenosaires #argentina #readersofinstagram

August wrap-up. I wish that I had read more, but I got stuck behind Chain of Gold, which took a long time to get through. As August is coming to an end, @jamiesbookstack has inspired me to do a September buying ban and actually make a dent into my TBR Stack. What should I start with?? Parker thinks it should be The Bright Lands, which is probably a good choice as I have to get that one back to the library 🙈 #tbrbooks #tbrbookstack #tbrbookshelf #tbrpile #thebrightlands #allthemissinggirls #thenightswim #blackleopardredwolf #wecameheretoforget #aria #miraclecreek #thewives #booklover #booklove #booklovers #bookishlove #readingtime #cantstopreading #readingislove #bookworm #bookwormlife #bookwormproblems #bookaddict

A vivid novel about a young Olympic skier who loses everything and reinvents herself in Buenos Aires, where she meets a man keeping dark secrets of his own. Listen to a sample from WE CAME HERE TO FORGET by @andreadunlop. Narrated by @justjuliawhelan 📖🎧

8/31/2020, 1:54:34 AM

Book review: We came here to forget by Andrea Dunlop surprised me in a lot of ways. I read this for my online book club ( @momadvice ) and I really didn’t know much about it. Katie Cleary is an Olympic skier and we know that she’s gone through a serious family tragedy, but we don’t know what it is. The book proceeds with two timelines, one rehashing the lead up to what happened and the other goes forward as she tries to get over it with a random group of other life escapees in Buenos Aires. It was the perfect mix of character development and exciting plot. The characters were super interesting and believable. The story was compelling. The narration was fantastic. It’s a little open door, just FYI, but that doesn’t detract from the story. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 #bookstagram #bookreview #wecameheretoforget #audible #contemporaryfiction #juliawhelan #andreadunlop #bookssetinargentina

Is there a perfect quarantine read that isn’t YA or a thriller? Yes. And it is ‘We Came Here To Forget’ by @andreadunlop. This novel gets a solid A+ from me. ⁣⁣ ⁣ I will say there is a trigger warning that this book deals with Munchausen by proxy and harm to a child. It’s not the entire book but it’s there so keep that in mind if it might be hard for you to read that. ⁣⁣ ⁣ The story follows Katie Cleary, an Olympic downhill skier who has taken off to Buenos Aires to escape recent tragedy and a nasty breakup in her life back in the States. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ The book is told from Katie’s perspective and flips back and forth between present day Argentina and the past family tragedy. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ I don’t want to give away ANYTHING in this book because it’s so wonderful. Trust me when I say it has it all; drama, thrills and twists, heartbreak, tango and romance. It’s a beautifully written book that I will absolutely read again. ⁣⁣It’s a story of redemption and perseverance. Plus Argentina is one of my favourite countries I’ve visited thus far. ⁣⁣ The ending is one of my favourites as it doesn’t tie everything up with a pretty bow. You get just enough of a happy ending without feeling like this is so far from reality. The very last sentence in the book is so poignant and holds true for what we are going through right now in the world.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Call your local independent book store and purchase this book ASAP and get your hands on this novel (contact-less, duh). You will not regret it. ⁣⁣ #bookstagram #bookreview #booklover #heynikytapreviews #wecameheretoforget
