New Book 📚 Review: 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗩𝗔𝗖𝗔𝗡𝗖𝗬 𝗜𝗡 𝗥𝗢𝗢𝗠 𝟭𝟬 By @seraphinanovaglass Publication Date: April 9, 2024 #mysterythriller The setting is The Sycamores in New Mexico - a seedy motel converted into an apartment complex. Cassidy "Cass" Abbott is the manager/fix-it person "handyma’am" who lives rent free repairing air conditioners, toilets and anything else the residents need. Cass was forced to abandon her upscale life when her live-in realtor boyfriend found a new, younger girlfriend and kicked her out of their home, which was in his name only. Cass is in need of money and has done some things she is not proud of. Anna Hartley also has new troubles. Struggling as a newspaper writer, she receives a desperate call from her husband Henry, who tells Anna he's ruined everything and admits to killing someone. Afterwards, his body is found, and his death is ruled a suicide. Anna moves into his apartment at The Sycamores, which he'd converted into an art studio, as she's hoping to learn more about Henry's death. As she starts putting things together, Anna receives threats to stop her investigation. The secrets Anna uncovers make her wonder if she ever truly knew her husband. And it becomes clear that the other residents are also hiding things. Could one of them be a murderer? Author Seraphina Nova Glass has created a truly entertaining book in 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗩𝗮𝗰𝗮𝗻𝗰𝘆 𝗶𝗻 𝗥𝗼𝗼𝗺 𝟭𝟬. There's a lot going on here with the two main characters and the "over the top" residents of The Sycamores who add drama and humor. It's a fast-paced story that I didn't want to put down. The setting was so well done as was the cast of heavily flawed characters. Check out this satisfying read. It wasn't on my original TBR list and I'm glad I added it. That cover drew me in. Qotd: Does your family have any heirlooms? If yes, what is it? If no, is there anything you’d like to see passed down? Good morning! Hope everyone had a relaxing weekend! My boyfriend and I had a great time enjoying some Korean BBQ and board games with friends. Less fun was catching up on the tons of errands the following day 😅Still have a ton to do during the week so if my posting is sporadic that is why. Today am sharing my review of @brendajanowitzwriter The Grace Kelly Dress. In The Grace Kelly Dress, we follow three generations of women connected by the same wedding dress, which was inspired by Grace Kelly’s iconic gown. I found this to be a really enjoyable story and loved how it showcased generational clashes and different mother/daughter relationships. There was a bit of romance, but it wasn’t central to the story, in my opinion. Also I loved how the dress was in some ways almost a character in and off itself, being transformed with each generation and helping each woman make a positive change in their life. Last, but not least, as someone who loved Grace Kelly’s story, I enjoyed how her life was mildly incorporated into this book. #historicalfictionbooks #brendajanowitz #historicalromance #reviewersofinstagram #gracekellyinspired #bookloversalways #historybuffer #historyisfun #harpercollins #graydonhousebooks #readallthebooks📚 #bookrecommendations #romancereadersofinstagram

Do you like retellings?✍🏼 My fave is always Pride and Prejudice, but this is my first retelling of Sense and Sensibility, and I enjoyed reading this updated version, Relative Strangers by A. H. Kim. Amelia Bae-Wood, her sister and mother have been kicked out of their family house after their father passed away.  Her father is from Korea but went to school in the US and built a great fortune with their American mom.  However this is all ripped away from them, and the Bae-Woods have to stay at Arcadia, a cancer retreat where Eleanor volunteers. I have to say, I adored all the characters at Arcadia and loved seeing how all of their lives came together.  I would love a second book to see what happens with everyone in the next chapter of their lives. If you enjoy family drama, and I know some of you do!! You’re going to enjoy this one! Thank you @kayepublicity for this gifted copy! Relative Strangers was published on April 2, 2024 and is available on our Amazon storefront!🧜🏼‍♀️🌺 . . . . . #relativestrangers #ahkim #newbooks #mustread #asianauthors #familydrama #kayepublicity #graydonhousebooks #bookreview #bookreviewer #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #welovebigbooksandwecannotlie #spring #springtime #readersofinstagram #janeausten #modernretelling

Pub Day Book Review: The Beautiful People by Michelle Gable ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ This historical novel is set in the early 1960s, mostly in Palm Beach, Florida. Main character Margo is a down on her luck former debutante, dumped while at a wedding in Palm Beach - but finds a job as an assistant to photographer Slim Aarons, a renowned photographer who takes pictures there and around the world of the high society set. Margo finds herself simultaneously drawn to but still on the outside of the world, especially getting to know budding fashion mogul Lilly Pulitzer and her husband Peter. I really enjoyed this one - so nice to read a historical novel that is not only not about war, but that’s more on the fun side, with a setting and characters that just exude glamour and cool. Margo is fictional, but most of the characters around her are real people, and I enjoyed the author’s notes both before and after the book talking about them, plus my own Google deep dive afterwards. I had vaguely heard of Slim Aarons but never had seen his pictures, and now I’m kind of obsessed with them! I am a big fan of @mgablewriter , and have read all 6 of her previous books, and this was another good one. If you’ve never read her, I’d say if you enjoy Beatriz Williams’ books you would enjoy hers too. Thanks to @Netgalley and @graydonhousebooks for my e-ARC (out TODAY 4/16/24); all opinions are my own. And thanks to @nottoomanybooks for a fun impromptu buddy read chat! Swipe to see some Slim Aarons photos I found online - and of course my background for both photos is Lilly Pulitzer fabric! My favorite tree is beautiful this time of year and I thought it was fitting to be included with The Beautiful People by @mgablewriter which comes out tomorrow - April 16th! Beautiful People was such s fun book around a fictional failed Debutante who becomes an assistant to the famed society photographer Slim Aarons. In her role she gets to observe the jet-setting society as she helps photograph the elite. As she gets taken into the Palm Beach inner circle she starts a friendship with heiress and rising fashion designer Lilly Pulitzer... I loved reading about the glamorous and not so glamorous side of the jet-setting 1960s socialites and famous who spent the season in Palm Beach. I loved looking at the Slim Aaron photographs as I was this book to get into the spirit! I like my historical fiction where fictional characters interact with real people so knowing that Margo was fictional helped me get into this story and enjoy! Plus I never really knew the history behind Lilly Pulitzer so I loved learning more about her! If you're into historical fiction around the elite, 1960s or want to know more about Lilly Pulitzer you'll enjoy this book! Definitely recommend reading it poolside if you can! Thanks to @graydonhousebooks and @htpbooks @htp_hive for my advanced copy! 🌴🕶️Advanced Book Review🌴🕶️ Pub Date April 16 🍹🍊Margo is a San Francisco debutante who finds herself broke and alone in Palm Beach in 1961, working for Slim Aarons, photographer to the stars, high society, and royalty. Hoping the job will help her find a path to a new and better future (i.e. a rich husband), Margo assists Slim around the world as he photographs wealthy and beautiful people; but Margo gets swept up into the lives of the wealthy circle of the Palm Beach jet set when she establishes a friendship with the fabulous Lilly Pulitzer. However, Margo learns that even the wealthy have complicated lives if you take off the rose colored glasses, or in this case, the brightly patterned dresses. ✨My Review✨ I grabbed this one because @electric_bookaloo was reading and enjoying it and I needed a good plane read this weekend (and it was). This was one of those books (for me) that you read, and then realize afterwards how much you enjoy. I ended up googling the many of the characters to learn more about them after I finished the novel and talking about the book the next day with someone I had just met. I wasn’t the biggest fan of Margo, but I enjoyed learning about the real people in the novel and their stories and I thought the author did a great job bringing them to life. This is a nice light historical novel about characters whose stories I had never known. ⭐️⭐️⭐️💫✨(3.75) How does your week look? Mine is pretty busy! Thank you to @harperperennial @graydonhousebooks @htp_hive @htpbooks for the ARC #harperperennial #graydonhousebooks #netgalley

💛Ciao for Now 💛 I just finished ‘Ciao for Now’ and it had to be the cutest story! It’s a rom-com where, Violet, an American girl takes an internship in Italy and buts heads with her professor’s son. Once they spend time together, sparks fly! But with a competition on the line, Violet finds herself distracted and has to decide whether to go after her feelings or her dreams. This is the perfect pick me up read when you just want to cuddle in bed with a cute book. With an Italian setting, this book was a funny rom-com, has enemies to lovers trope, with banter that made it a fun read! Makes me want to go back to Italy! 🇮🇹 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ #bookreview #bookreviewer #bookblogger #bookblog #bookinfluencer #bookstagrammer #bookphotography #ciaofornow #katebromley #romcombooks #romcomreads #readersofinstagram #bookstagramcanada #graydonhousebooks #booklover #romancereader #bookreviews #bookaddict #review #bookreviewblog #canadianblogger

✨New Book Release Review✨ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 The Vacancy in Room 10 by Seraphina Nova Glass Publishing Date: April 9, 2024 Pages: 304 pages I recommend going into this one blind! It was an awesome read. It took me a little bit of time to get into and hooked on this one, but once I did it was super entertaining. I loved the way Seraphina made the setting so tangible and how she assembled such distinct characters as it really set the tone and stage for the book. For me, this was not a story with a predictable plot and that’s always a huge plus for me. I’m not going to go into specifics since I feel Onto her backlist for me. 🤩 Thank you #NetGalley and #GraydonHouseBooks for an arc of #TheVacancyInRoom10 in exchange for an honest review.

A group of siblings, trapped at their family’s estate during a storm, secrets and betrayal promised, this is right up my alley. I really liked the way the story started, with a news report that one of the famous Van Ness siblings has died (not a spoiler). From there, the story begins just a couple days prior, and eventually catches up to the news story that pops back in here and there, until we learn who has died. I enjoyed that it was the ladies of the family telling the story, the audio was well done, sharing their different perspectives and lending themselves to their different personalities. Overall, I liked it, but my expectations were a bit higher. I think it had a lot of promise, but didn’t quite get there. The way it ended, I wasn’t quite sure what was next for the family. 🎉Happy Book Birthday🎉 to @seraphinanovaglass scorching new thriller, THE VACANCY IN ROOM 10! This can't-miss read is available now--link in bio! 📚🎈📚 ---- When Anna Hartley’s husband, Henry, calls her with a terrible, guilty confession, she can’t believe what she hears. It has to be a bad joke—the mild, predictable artist she married would never hurt a fly, let alone commit murder. But her confusion turns to horror when police find his body washed up on the banks of the Rio Grande. Desperate for answers to the millions of questions his untimely death has raised, Anna checks in to The Sycamores, the run-down motel turned apartment Henry rented as an art studio. As she absorbs every bit of gossip the eclectic mix of residents are willing to share about her husband and each other, she begins to piece together a picture of a very different man than the one she married, and the life he led behind her back. The more she learns, and the less sense things seem to make, she finds herself wondering: Did she ever really know Henry at all? But Henry’s secrets aren’t the only ones; as Anna’s search for clues expands, Cass, the mysterious, jaded motel manager, seems more and more determined to keep Anna in the dark. And when threatening letters start appearing at her door, Anna has to decide what’s more important—the truth, or her own safety. #newbooktuesday #bookstagram #amreading #seraphinanovaglass #newbooks #graydonhousebooks #htpbooks

I can’t rave enough about this book – twisty, atmospheric, intricately plotted, and absolutely bingeable! My book besties warned me not to start this one before bedtime, but did I listen? Of course not! But the book hangover the next morning was completely worth it! 💜 There was nothing I didn’t love about this book! First, the setting. I could perfectly envision The Sycamores: the rundown building, the dated motel décor, the smoke and aroma of the Friday BBQs, and the pool ladies playing cards while their little ones swim and run around. Second, the characters. The characters were so fantastic and fully developed, not just the main ones like Cass and Anna, but also Cass’s ex-boyfriend and new girlfriend, the quirky neighbors and the pool ladies (seriously, I want to play cards with the pool ladies!). And of course, the plot! That plot… WOW! It’s twisty, it’s turny, it’s edge-of-your-seat suspenseful! Complex, crafty, with nonstop action and some hilarious laugh-out-loud moments, this book surprised me time and again! 💕 Many thanks to NetGalley, Graydon House, and Thriller Book Lovers Promotions for providing me an advance copy of this book. ➡️ ℚ𝕆𝕋𝔻 - What are you currently reading? #TheVacancyInRoom10 #SeraphinaNovaGlass #HarlequinTradePublishing #HTPBooks #HTPHive #GraydonHouse #GraydonHouseBooks #NetGalley #NetGalleyReads #NetGalleyReview #ARCReview #ARCReader #ThrillerBooks #PsychologicalThriller #ThrillerBooksAddict #ThrillerBookLover #ThrillerBooksOfInstagram #ThrillerBookstagram #ThrillerBookLoversThePulse #FiveStarBook #FiveStarReads #PubDay #PublicationDay

It is a much slower pace than that read, but I still recommend it. It has some very interesting characters and the setting really makes the story. ✨𝗕𝗢𝗢𝗞 𝗥𝗘𝗩𝗜𝗘𝗪✨ Iris narrowly escaped her twin sister’s fate as a teen: abducted in broad daylight and long gone before she could convince the cops there was anything to investigate.   Ever since that day, Iris’ search has bordered on obsession. And if the police still won’t help, she’ll just have to find the answer herself—using her criminal psychology degree to intern at the isolated psychiatric hospital on Shoal Island. But Iris soon realizes that something even more sinister is simmering beneath the surface of the Shoal, and that the patients aren’t the only ones being observed… Another fantastic book from this author, it starts with a bang and it will keep you guessing until the end. Thank you @harpercollinsca @graydonhousebooks for my free review copy! This book started out strong for me and I was really enjoying it for most of the story. The atmospheric writing was great especially in describing the hospital and the island which housed the criminally insane where Iris gets a job. The premise of Iris trying to solve the mystery of her deceased twin sister’s kidnapping and death was intriguing. It all got a bit complicated and confusing though through the last third of the book with too many things happening all at once which I felt detracted from the initial plot. How is your week going? How many more books do you hope to finish before the end of the month?

Favorite Crewneck ✅ Favorite Socks ✅ New Favorite Read ✅ Good Half Gone by Tarryn Fisher // Psychological Thriller ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Nine years ago: At fifteen, Iris’ life changed forever when her twin sister, Piper, was abducted. Her eye witness account wasn’t taken seriously by the police, and her sister’s disappearance case turned cold. Present day: As Iris, now in grad school, begins a paid internship at the Hospital on the Island (for the criminally insane) she has mysterious ulterior motives. What is it that she expects to find on this slowly eroding, eerie island? And how does it relate to Piper? Is she still out there somewhere? Iris is a captivating, daring character, who will stop at nothing to discover the truth about her sister, especially if it means giving Gran and Cal a much needed slice of closure. Laced with humor, emotion, mystery, twists, and turns, this book had me in a chokehold. I read the whole thing in one afternoon because I literally couldn’t stop. Around the 70% mark I was certain I knew the ending, but I was wrong! Solid 4/5, @tarrynfisher does not disappoint. —— #arcreview #netgalley #tarrynfisher #goodhalfgone #graydonhousebooks #bookreview #bookrecommendations #bookrecs #thrillerreads #psychologicalthriller #mysterybooks #thrillerbooks #bookblog #bookish #erastour #bookrelease #newbook

📚 BOOK REVIEW 📚 THE BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE by @mgablewriter. Pub date 4/16/24. Thank you, Partner @graydonhousebooks @htpbooks @htp_hive, for my #gifted (free) copy. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 The 1960s is a time period I love reading about. My grandparents would have been the same age I am now, so it's so fascinating to me to see how different things were back then. This book is loosely based on true events and the lives of the Kennedys, Slim Aarons, Lilly Pulitzer, and more. This was a fast read with short chapters (my favorite). I definitely recommend this one if you enjoy historical fiction, the rich and famous, parties, fashion, and photography. Margo (Gogo) was supposed to have it all. She was expecting a ring from her wealthy boyfriend Crim Pebley. Instead, he dumped her at a wedding they were attending. Margo now has no money and no idea what she is going to do until she is introduced to Slim Aarons, a famous photographer. He hires her to be his assistant, and she enters the world of the rich and famous, and meets fashion designer Lily Pulitzer, and they immediately form a friendship. Things are going great for Margo until she finds herself mixed up in a web of lies and secrets. The rich and famous might not be all its cracked up to be. ❓️ QOTD: Do you prefer longer or shorter chapters and why? I prefer shorter, especially if they end with a good cliffhanger. ❓️ #thebeautifulpeople #thebeautifulpeoplebook #michellegable #michellegablebooks #htp #htpinfluencer #htphive #htpbooks #graydonhousebooks #goodreads #missouribookstagrammer #washingtonmo #washmo #historicalfiction #florida #keywest #richandfamous #bookreader #bookreview #bookrecs #bookphoto #2024books #thehive #slimaarons #slimaaronsphotography #thekennedys #lillypulitzer #fashion #hiveinfluencer

🩵 NetGalley Catch-Up! Two Book Reviews! 🩵 Women of Good Fortune by Sophie Wan - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I loved this one! What a fun, feisty read. It as if Ocean’s 8 took place in Shanghai, and the ladies involved were beyond done with an antiquated, misogynistic society and some of the men in it. I loved the backstories of the three main women—Lulu, Rina, and Jane—and how their experiences informed their willingness to stage a heist at Lulu’s wedding to Shanghai’s richest bachelor. I was entertained from start to finish and loved rooting for this fun yet realistic trio. This book is definitely a conversation starter for a juicy book-club gathering. Much thanks for @graydonhousebooks & @netgalley for the gifted copy in exchange for a review. I borrowed it from my library for a pic! Acts of Forgiveness by Maura Cheeks - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ This book is built on the fascinating concept: A female president who is a descendent of Andrew Johnson works to pass The Forgiveness Act into law. This law provides all African Americans who can prove they are the descendants of slaves with financial reparations. While this national story plays out, domestic drama also unfolds. I enjoyed the scenes featuring Willie, the main character who wanted the money and was conflicted about why most of her family didn’t. I do wish some of the secondary characters had been developed a bit more. I really wanted to learn more about Paloma’s struggles. All in all, though, this one was definitely eye-opening and a truly intriguing premise! 📚Book Review📚 Relative Strangers by A.H. Kim Rating: 3.75 ⭐️ Format: Physical ARC gifted by @htp_hive Date Read: March 21, 2024 Publication Date: April 2, 2024 At first, I wasn’t really sure what I thought about this book. It kind of had a slow start. But as it went on, I got more and more invested into the story and I ended up enjoying it. This has great family drama. It was a little bit of romance, and it is divided into seasons of the year. Overall, I ended up enjoying this one even though it took about 200 pages for me to really get into the story. I devoured Good Half Gone by @tarrynfisher in a day. Couldn’t stop reading and had to know what happened. Twins, an isolated hospital for the criminally insane, fascinating characters?? I couldn’t resist. I really liked this one. Lots of twists and turns made it fun. There was a spooky vibe on the island and I loved how everything tied together. I would definitely recommend! Thank you, @graydonhousebooks ! Thank you, @librofm for the audiobook. It was great! Synopsis: Iris Walsh saw her twin sister get kidnapped—so why does no one believe her? Iris narrowly escaped her twin sister’s fate as a teen: abducted in broad daylight and long gone before she could convince the cops there was anything to investigate. With Piper presumed a runaway and no evidence to go on but Iris’s scattered memories, the case quickly goes cold. Ever since that terrible day, Iris’ search for Piper has bordered on obsession. Chasing leads across years and following clues that all seem to point to a single name, Iris does everything she can to get close to the only person who might know the answer to the question that still haunts her: where did Piper go? And if the police still won’t help, she’ll just have to find the answer herself—using her criminal psychology degree to intern at the isolated psychiatric hospital on Shoal Island, where secrets lurk in the shadows and are kept under lock and key. But Iris soon realizes that something even more sinister is simmering beneath the surface of the Shoal, and that the patients aren’t the only ones being observed… #goodhalfgone #tarrynfisher #graydonhousebooks #booksof2024 #bookreview #mystery #thriller #mysterythriller #suspense #twins

Told through past and present alternating timelines, we follow a sisters search for justice and her journey of dealing with the grief of her missing half and the questionable circumstances of her disappearance. This one has a bit of a slow beginning but then an action packed ending! 💫 Book Review 💫 Good Half Gone by Tarryn Fisher (U.S. Release March 19, 2024) ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Good Half Gone was extremely fast paced and drew me in from the start. I think my copy had some errors that made readability a bit hard, but overall I was pulled in by Iris’s matter of fact depictions of hers and Piper’s relationship and how her disappearance impacted her life. I enjoyed the past scenes more than the present, which I found confusing and hard to follow at first. It almost seemed disconnected from the story at first until I finally realized the connection and why Iris had targeted the Shoal Island Hospital. There were a lot of layers to the story and Fisher did a great job developing her characters. I emphasized with Iris and her roles as mother, daughter, granddaughter, and sister. I think readers will easily be drawn into her plight and eagerly turn the pages to find out what happened. The ending was both shocking and so well written! • Book Review • Book: Good Half Gone Author: Tarryn Fisher Genre: Thriller Publisher: @graydonhousebooks Pub Date: March 19th, 2024 The fog shrouded the island in an eerie hug, distorting the building in front of her. There was a darkness looming in this place, a feeling of impending doom. There was danger in that building, someone holding the history and the answers to something she longed to know. Good Half Gone is a dual timeline thriller following Iris who is determined to find out what happened to her twin sister who was taken years ago. She gets a job working at a hospital for the criminally insane, hoping to get the answers she wants. The premise of this book sounded fantastic and right up my alley. Atmospheric and isolated… the kind of setting I love. But this book just fell very flat for me. It was very slow moving, the plot dragging out. The random romance introduced in the book made no sense for me and took away from the already slow moving plot… and the ending… was just weird. For those who like twin stories, slow burn thrillers, and isolated settings… you may enjoy this one! 𝐆𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐇𝐚𝐥𝐟 𝐆𝐨𝐧𝐞 by Tarryn Fisher. Thanks to @graydonhousebooks @htpbooks for the gifted Arc ⭐️⭐️⭐️⁣ ⁣ Iris’s pretty and popular twin, Piper, is kidnapped right in front of her as a teen. No one believes it and thinks she’s a runaway at first. As an adult, Iris gets a job at a hospital for the criminally insane to investigate. ⁣ ⁣ I enjoyed the back story but could not get into the present time line. It was a shame because the setting of a hospital for the criminally insane sounds so interesting. I found myself skimming those chapters. I was really into the past history chapters though. ⁣ ⁣ Good Half Gone comes out 3/19. ⁣ ⁣ Qotd: With dual time lines do you usually find yourself enjoying the past or current more, or do you enjoy them the same? I always end up liking the past more. ⁣ ⁣ #goodhalfgone #htpbooks #htpinfluencer #thehive #htpthehive #graydonhousebooks #graydonhouse #graydonhousepublishing #arcbooks #arcbookreviews #thrillerbookaddict #thrillers #thrillerbooks #thrillerauthors #favoritethrillerauthor #booksofinstagram #booksonvacation #vacationreading #bookstoread #suspensebookstagram #ireadthrillers #thrillsandchills #suspensebooks #suspensebook

On A Quiet Street 🏘️🤫 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 Author: Seraphina Nova Glass Genre: Suburban Thriller ••• If you need a fast-paced, can’t turn the pages fast enough, invested from beginning to end suburban thriller… this is it 🤩 I had four different people recommend this one in the span of two weeks last year, and it’s been on my list ever since. I looked and looked for it at bookstores for months and FINALLY found it 🙌🏻 And wow, did it live up to the hype! We open with a hit and run in a quiet neighborhood that ends in tragedy 🚗 Fast forwarding one year later, a family is still looking for answers. But we soon find out that this gated community has plenty of secrets (and very nosey neighbors) to go around 🤫 I often find that I gravitate towards one storyline more than others in multiple POV structures, but in this book, I was equally invested in all three women’s perspectives and how they were connected. I’m also a big fan of amateur sleuthing done well (even if not always by the most ethical means 😅), and it was a wild ride seeing how the women got the information they needed to dig up answers 🔎 This book also has a very satisfying ending, which was the perfect conclusion! 👀 I can’t say too much else without giving spoilers, so I’ll keep this review short! If you’re a fan of Shari Lapena or Jamie Day, I think you’ll especially like this one 🌟 💭 Do you have any nosey neighbors or neighbors who have turned into best friends? Our next door neighbor in Nebraska was always the person to go to for all the dirt on everyone on our street 😂 She knew everything about everyone, and we’d sit out on her driveway for afternoon drinks!

By far my absolute favorite Tarryn Fisher book so far 👏🏼👏🏼 There’s something about a dark thriller that’s set in a criminally insane hospital that just does it for me. This was everything you could want in a thriller - dark, shocking and a wild twist at the end that you never see coming 🤌🏼 Huge shoutout to @netgalley and @graydonhousebooks for the ARC! This absolute must read will be released on March 19th 😍 #goodhalfgone #tarrynfisher #netgalley #arc #graydonhousebooks #shoalisland #criminallyinsane #mystery #thriller #iris #piper

Book 61 in 2024 ✔️ ❓What is a book that surprised you this year❓ Thank you to @thesophiewan and @graydonhousebooks for this ARC copy. If you enjoyed Crazy Rich Asians and the Ocean’s 11 franchise you will love this debut novel. It’s quirky, hits of rom com and tons of chaos! If you are a woman that roots for other strong women this is your book - it will have you laughing and rooting for the underdog! This debut novel is Ocean’s Eleven meets Crazy Rich Asians and would be a great fit if you like quirky, romantic comedies with a whole lot of chaos. Lulu was plucked from her life as a restaurant hostess in Shanghai by Harv, a crazy-rich bachelor. All her life she’s been told she owes it to everyone to provide what they need, especially her family. Now she’s traded her cage of poverty and and her family’s expectations for the cage of her rich in-laws expectations. And the kicker is, she doesn’t even love Harv—and she’s pretty sure he doesn’t love her either. So when her friends Jane (trapped in an unattractive body and longing for acceptance for who she is), and Rina (a career woman desperate to stop time by freezing her eggs for when she finally has time for a relationship) come to her with a plan, she’s ready to listen. And what they are planning will be the heist of the season in Chinese high society. But in the end will they be willing to pay the price to pursue their dreams? It took me a minute to get into the pace of this book but about 25% in I was invested and loved the story, the writing and the characters - both main and supplementary. I love a good puzzle and about 50% into the novel, I was truly invested in this heist plot. If you love Jesse Q. Sutanto books or books involving some hilarious, ride-or-die friendship situations, you will want to snag this one. It is labeled as a romance, but that truly takes a backseat to the female relationships in the novel. 🧧 Women of Good Fortune by Sophie Wan 🧧 Pub Date: March 5, 2024 🎉 I love a good heist, especially when it’s as fun as @thesophiewan’s WOMEN OF GOOD FORTUNE. Lulu is about to marry Shanghai’s richest and most eligible bachelor, much to her dismay. She isn’t in love with Harv, but their marriage would be a financial gain to help out her family as well as avoid being considered a “sheng nu” (a woman passed the appropriate age for marriage). Meanwhile, Lulu’s friends Jane and Rina are also in their own predicament. Jane feels like she’s in a loveless marriage forced upon her because no other man would marry her for her looks. Rina has put aside love and starting a family to focus on her career, but has been constantly passed up for promotion in favor of her male colleagues. If they had it their way and their own money, they would each go after what they really want. Together, they end up hatching a plan and forming a small crew to steal the red envelopes at Lulu’s upcoming wedding. I love Sophie Wan’s debut novel. It takes a cultural look into customs and expectations of women, but gives its three main characters a chance to break away and take back control of their lives through a heist. The whole idea and execution felt like something straight out of an Ocean’s Eleven movie. I liked seeing the details come together and was excited to see how it would all come through. The two additional members of the Leftover crew, as they called themself, also rounded out the team well. I also really like how Wan explores each of the women’s own dilemmas as well as how the people they care about will be affected. Not everything is as simple as they planned and we see what is at risk for all of them, with even their friendship put to the test, as relationships begin to develop and what they each thought was so important is called into question. I would have liked to have known more about some of the other characters in the end, but despite this I had a great time reading it. It’s perfect for fans of Ocean’s Eight, Bridesmaids, and Crazy Rich Asians. Thank you to @netgalley and @graydonhousebooks for the eARC! #reviewsbycinderella

Black Candle Women By @diane_marie_brown ; publisher @graydonhousebooks (book) and Graydon House Audio (audiobook) Location: greater Los Angeles area, CA, USA 🇺🇸 Plot: the Montrose women are cursed, no woman of this family can fall in love, as their beloved dies. Nickie kinda falls in love though and brings her maybe boyfriend home, being unaware of the curse, and the dilemma starts. Will Augusta, Victoria and Willow tell her what’s going on? Conclusion: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ This book seems to be listed under the Fantasy genre, but I honestly would rather classify it as a family drama with some magical touches. It’s a very good audio book and I believe that the audio format made me read the book and especially the good narration. I found the book to be slightly long winded, but still interesting, as the characters were nicely distinct and I wanted to know what becomes of them. Characters: - Augusta: she is the grandma of the family and I like her wittiness and her personality. - Nickie: is the youngest of the family and I’m not a huge fan. I can’t say why as it would spoil the story. - Victoria: is Nickie’s mother and very dislikeable. I couldn’t warm up to her stubbornness and sometimes intolerance. - Willow: is Nickie’s aunt and she supports her, what gets her in trouble. What I liked: the southern accent of the narrator, that made the book feel very authentic to the characters as they originally came from New Orleans. What I disliked: that the plot was dragging a little. QOTD: have you been to New Orleans? 📖📚 BOOK REVIEW 📚📖 Title: Good Half Gone Author: Tarryn Fisher Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 Pub date: March 18, 2024 I was excited to see Tarryn Fisher was having a new book coming out! A twin sees her sister get kidnapped and spends much of her time trying to find out who took her and why. When she believes she knows the culprit, she gets a job on an island that houses the criminally insane so she can confront them. It starts out strong but becomes pretty slow for quite awhile until about 80-90%. Then the last 10-20% you have to sit and read all at once because it’s gooooood. Thank you @TarrynFisher, @GraydonHouse and @NetGalley for a free e-ARC. The opinions are mine alone and not biased in any way. #tarrynfisher #goodhalfgone #tarrynfisherbooks #graydonhousebooks #graydonhouse #netgalley #thrillerbooks #lovetoread #newbookalert #readersofinstagram

COVER REVEAL📚 ---- A missing boy. A corrupt system. A case that could change everything… When young queer dancer Wilbess “Bessy” Mulenga is arrested by corrupt police, fresh-from-the-village rookie lawyer Grace Zulu takes up his cause in her first pro bono case. As she fights for justice for Bessy, Grace must navigate a dangerous world of corrupt politicians, traditional beliefs, and deep-seated homophobia. Happy Chinese New Year! My daughters are from China, so we definitely celebrate! This book doesn’t release until March 5th, but I thought today was the perfect time to highlight it. Many thanks to @graydonhousebooks for gifting me an early copy of Women of Good Fortune by @thesophiewan. 📖📖Synopsis 📖📖 Lulu has always been taught that money is the ticket to a good life. So, when Shanghai’s most eligible bachelor surprises her with a proposal, the only acceptable answer is yes, even if the voice inside her head is saying no. His family’s fortune would solve all her parents’ financial woes, but Lulu isn’t in love or ready for marriage. The only people she can confide in are her two best friends: career-minded Rina, who is tired of being passed over for promotion while her male colleagues are rewarded; and Jane, a sharp-tongued, luxury-chasing housewife desperate to divorce her husband and trade up. Each of them desires something different: freedom, time, beauty. None of them can get it without money. Lulu’s wedding is their golden opportunity. The social event of the season, it means more than enough cash gifts to transform the women’s lives. To steal the money on the big day, all they’ll need is a trustworthy crew and a brilliant plan. But as the plot grows increasingly complicated and relationships are caught in the cross fire, the women are forced to face that having it all might come at a steep price… #bookblogger #ondbookshelf #bookstagram #womenofgoodfortune #sophiewan #graydonhousebooks

Iris narrowly escaped her pretty, popular twin sister’s fate as a teen: kidnapped, trafficked and long gone before the cops agreed to investigate. With no evidence to go on but a few scattered memories, the case quickly goes cold. Now an adult, Iris wants one thing -proof. And if the police still won’t help, she’ll just have to find it her own way; by interning at the isolated Shoal Island Hospital for the criminally insane, where secrets lurk in the shadows and are kept under lock and key. 📝 By: Seraphina Nova Glass Publisher: Graydon House Genre: Domestic Thriller Release: April 9, 2024 In a shanty part of town near the Rio Grande, Henry’s last phone call to his wife is both cryptic and troubling. His death is later ruled as a suicide which quickly prompts Anna to move into the dusty art studio, in room 203 at The Sycamores, in search for answers. Cass the apartment manager, with mounting problems of her own, appears to withhold vital information further keeping Anna in the dark. But when the turn of events spirals out of control and threatens both of their lives, will they uncover the secrets behind Henry’s message or fall to their own demise?🌵 I’m intrigued with the prospect of murder occurring in some run-down motel turned apartment out there in the slums. There is a lot of unsubstantiated rumors among the tenants and it’s the characters that truly drive this book. It initially reminded me of The Sun Down Motel but this is a domestic thriller and not a paranormal one. The socio-cultural environment is at the forefront and is well written along with its wild cast of supporting characters. I must admit I had a bit of trouble keeping up with names in the beginning and I’m not sure I understand the meaning behind the title of this book entirely. Overall, it was an enjoyable and engaging read but not quite the instant hit as I had hoped for like On a Quiet Street, by the same author. 🏜️ Many thanks to Harlequin Trade Publishing, Graydon House, and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this title as an e-arc.✨ #TheVacancyInRoom10 #SeraphinaNovaGlass #BookReview #ArcRead #SpringReleases #NetGalley #GraydonHouseBooks #GraydonHouse #HarlequinTradePublishing

Happy Monday! 📓 “There were two of us in this game and it was increasingly unclear which of us was the cat, and which the mouse.” Rosemary Hennigan, The Favorites 📓Over the weekend I finished The Favorites by Rosemary Hennigan, a dark academia read. Jessie Mooney-Flynn seeks revenge against Jay Crane, a law professor who took advantage of her sister, Audrey. As Jessie inserts herself into Crane’s life, it becomes unclear just who is chasing whom. Set during the #metoo movement and the US 2016 election, Ms. Hennigan handles the topics of rape, misogyny, and power respectfully. Although there were suspenseful parts, I would classify it as contemporary fiction. A thought provoking read. 📓Do you have a favorite dark academia read? 💛Hope your week is off to a fantastic start, my friends! #thefavorites #rosemaryhennigan #graydonhousebooks #aardvarkbookclub #contemporaryfiction #literaryfiction #darkacademia #newreleases

BOOK REVIEW: 🖤🖤🖤🖤/5 Twin sisters Iris and Piper could not be more different. Iris is plain looking, bookish and an introvert, while Piper is gorgeous, popular and outgoing. One afternoon while the twins are at the movies with some older guys, Iris watches her sister get ABDUCTED and never sees her again. 📖ARC Book Review: The Weekend Retreat by Tara Laskowski ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 I truly love discovering phenomenal new-to-me authors, and Tara Laskowski has shown herself to be a force with The Weekend Retreat. A quick, easy read that centered around devilish lies, unending greed, and scandalous secrets, it was definitely a rocking good time. And for this suspense lover, I couldn’t have fallen harder for both the story and the author behind it. As for the why to that undying love, the storyline was an utter home run. A tale of domestic suspense with a plot line that could rival any box office film, I was spellbound from the very first word. Despite a somewhat slow burn start, as the secrets and lies began to bubble forth, so too did the unease. It even came complete with a storm to end all storms, turning the plot into the quintessential locked room mystery. Add in the shock-inducing twists and the on point atmospheric setting and this was clearly an exemplary hole in one. As for the characters, they were simply sublime. An attention-grabbing mix of thoroughly unlikeable and engagingly sympathetic, there were certainly those I was rooting for over the others. But as the multiple POV plot twisted around and around, I felt my allegiances come into question as their dirty laundry came into view. After all, many of these dynamite personas had deep backstories and stunningly good character growth on top of some rather questionable motives. As I closed the cover on this novel (which had definite The Family Game vibes), I am dumbfounded by the fact that I hadn’t read Laskowski before. I mean, the riveting suspense and unguessable premise definitely kept me in awe. Granted, the climax did have a tinge of OTT melodrama, but given this dysfunctional family and their nutty behavior, that was nothing if not to be expected. So if you’re like me and have yet to read a book by this author, take this review as your siren’s song to check her out ASAP. Rating of 4.5 stars. Thank you to @taralwrites @graydonhousebooks and #tlcbooktours for my #gifted copy. All opinions are my own. ⁉️QOTD: Have you ever been stuck somewhere because of the weather? Or what has been your fave vacay?

If WWII historical fiction with mystery, romance, strong characters, and spy history sounds good to you, check out 🆃🅷🅴 🅿🅰🆁🅸🆂 🅰🅶🅴🅽🆃 🔎 From the author of 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘛𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘴 𝘞𝘦 𝘊𝘢𝘯𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘚𝘢𝘺 and 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘎𝘦𝘳𝘮𝘢𝘯 𝘞𝘪𝘧𝘦, comes a historical fiction book with exciting agent missions, romance amidst chaos, the constant uncertainty of who can be trusted and who’s a traitor, and a really cool view into the SOE (Special Operations Executive). There were parts I was on the edge of my seat, wondering if my favorite characters would make it out alive. And there were emotional punches throughout too. I appreciated that there were metaphorical pillows to cushion the blows. Multiple characters, multiple timelines: Agents Josie, Fleur, and Noah are the main spy characters we get to know during WWII. And then there’s Charlotte, in the 1970s, trying to piece together past mysteries centered on her dad. The switching of characters and code names on top of regular names threw me a bit at first, but it got easier to follow the more I read. With so many mysteries slowly unraveling, it felt like I kept receiving new puzzle pieces and was slowly piecing together a grand puzzle until, in the end, a grand culmination. Kelly Rimmer has a talent 👏🏼 for weaving together multiple stories and making them connect at the end. The emotional scenes were so raw and real, and made the story authentic. I recommend this book to friends who enjoy WWII stories that include spies, mysteries, sisterhood friendship, suspense, romance, and emotionally intense content. 💔❤️ Thank you to @justineshazam and the team at @harpercollins and @graydonhousebooks for this gifted copy! ⁉️ What’s a book you read years ago that you still vividly remember? Third photo: I found this gem 💎 of a story from one of my second graders (from years ago)—a short story where I’m the secret spy! 😏 Being an elementary teacher brought so much joy (mostly because my students were awesome)! One of my favorite aspects of teaching was sharing my love of stories. We’d dive into reading and writing adventures together, and seeing this student’s progress and creativity made me so proud. 👏🏼❤️🥹

BOOKS OF 2024 📚 ( #7) —————————————————————————— Goodreads Review: 4 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. What a cute, “Hallmark Christmas movie” type of book this was! It was corny and predictable but those are the things I love about these types of books! The characters were all very likable. I love everything Christmas so it was nice to hold onto that Christmas spirit and read this in January after the holidays were over. I enjoyed all the the descriptions and it made me wish I could jump right in the car and take a drive to Michigan to visit Wegner’s Christmas store! I definitely recommend this one. —————————————————————————— #violashipman #christmas #romance #familydrama #graydonhousebooks #ebook #reading #winterrelax #booksandcoffee #christmastime #pickupabook #timetoread #thewishingbridge #woodenbridge

Q: What is your favorite snack while reading? • Principles of Emotion by Sara Read Rating: 4/5 ⭐️ Spice: 1/5 🌶️ Review: This was an inspiring story about a mathematician woman who has burnout and goes on a journey to discover herself. I have to say that this book had a slow beginning but once everything starts, it’s a great one. I really enjoyed the storyline and the journey of the FMCs. The story showcases the reality and how it can be so difficult even though you have succeeded. There were many conflicts in this book that keeps readers hooked on the story. I have to say that I thought this was mainly romance based but it’s not and would consider it women’s fiction. Meg is the main character in this book. I really enjoyed her character and what she brought to this book. She deals with anxiety and panic attacks which many readers can relate to. I loved her development in the book and seeing her grow. There were many side characters in this book. Isaac was a great and unexpected but there were some special people of Meg’s life. The romance is opposites attract and second chance romance which was cute. It wasn’t the main focus of the story but it was a good element to it. The ending was well done with Meg getting the ending she deserved. I really enjoyed this book and had a great time reading Read’s book. I hope to see more stories like this because it was great and showcases the hard truths of reality. *this arc was sent to me by the publisher to give an honest review in return* • #bookworm #booklove #bookaddict #principlesofemotion #sararead #graydonhousebooks #bookstacksaturday #bookshelf #contemporaryromance #contemporarybooks #oppositesattract #secondchanceromance #secondchance #womensfiction #womensfictionwriters #stem #stembooks #book #bookstagram #bookreview

📚 𝗛𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗼 𝗕𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗙𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗱𝘀! Set against the backdrop of 1940s France and 1970s Liverpool, THE PARIS AGENT by Kelly Rimmer explores the aftermath of war, memory loss, and the quest for identity. Rimmer skillfully introduces strong female characters—Chloe and Fleur—transformed into fearless spies, adding depth to the historical fiction genre. While the novel delves into themes of friendship, bravery, forgiveness, and grief, the challenge lies in the intricate narrative structure. Tracking the numerous characters and timelines proved challenging, requiring the use of a notebook for assistance. Despite the intricate structure, the book offers a rewarding journey into history's shadows, unveiling a gripping story of courage and familial bonds. The hint of romance, subtly introduced and realized towards the end, complements the broader narrative. Although not my favorite by this author, it won't deter me from eagerly anticipating her next novel. ✏ Favourite quote: "𝘛𝘰 𝘵𝘳𝘶𝘭𝘺 𝘭𝘰𝘷𝘦 𝘴𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘰𝘯𝘦, 𝘸𝘦 𝘮𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘢𝘤𝘤𝘦𝘱𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘭 𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘮, 𝘴𝘤𝘢𝘳𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘢𝘭𝘭." ✳️ #the52bookclub: 30. Thank you, @graydonhousebooks , for my review copy! — BOOK REVIEW — The Paris Agent by Kelly Rimmer 2.5 stars ⭐️⭐️💫 It makes me sad to give this low rating to one of my favourite authors. But I have to be honest in my ratings otherwise it makes no sense to review books. I had expected this to be a 4-5 star book 😢 1970: a daughter and her father are researching the Special Operations Executive (SOE), the secret British WWII organization that her father was a part of. Her father is looking for the man who saved his life but he only knows his undercover name. The novel moves between 1970 and WWII. I enjoyed learning about this important time in history. Unfortunately I didn’t connect with any of the characters which is very surprising for me with this author. The pace was very long and drawn out yet the time jumps seemed to cut out a lot of back story. The storyline didn’t have enough intrigue to have me invested in any part of it. While this story included a lot of loss and hardship, it lacked the grit and heavy impact that this author usually pulls me in with. It failed to touch my heart or impact me on an emotional level. Romance was a strong theme that also turned me off. I don’t mind subplots of romance but having it as a main focus made the book take on a lighter tone and is not something I enjoy. Overall, this was a miss for me but I continue to be a fan of this author and will read whatever she comes out with next. As I stated in my previous post featuring this title, I highly recommend several of her other novels, some of which are on my All Time Favourites List. 🏆 You can also find the @goodreads synopsis there. . The Favorites, by Rosemary Hennigan is a suspenseful campus novel . Jessie is in grad school for a very specific reason—and that is revenge. I thought this was a good book, a solid story that kept me interested. I specifically enjoyed the conversations within about some famous pieces of literature. . . . . . . But I like my dark academia dark . This just scratched the surface for me. . . . #thefavorites #aardvarkbookclub #graydonhousebooks #graydonhouse #bookclubbish #thriller #suspensenovel #literaryfiction #mysterythriller #campusnovel #darkacademia #darkacademiabooks #goodbooks #readersofinstagram #justbooksbookstagram #bookstagram #iread #bookish #bookquotes #books #reading #bookbox #booksubscriptionbox #shereadsalot
