Your biggest RECOVERY tool is your programming. It all starts with what you do and how much of it you do. Ice baths and red light therapy and cryos are an aftermath of your programming (if needed). Sleep is crucial to be able to be fresh enough to recruit high amounts of motor units. Yes, beginners can get away with slightly higher volumes. There are studies showing women can get away with slightly higher volumes as well because of more type I fibers. The goal is maximum adaption with least amount of fatigue, recruiting high number of motor units, progressive overload when it comes to building muscle but these concepts spill into other areas/concepts of training as well. Even as athletes you want to minimise fatigue in the training room to be able to give it your all at practices / game days. The ideology of working out till you’re exhausted is outdated. Let’s take a squat pattern as an example. Point 1 - Joint Angle - go from a front squat to a back squat. Point 2 - Range of Motion (ROM) - go from a full ROM front squat to a squat to parallel back squat (nothing wrong in full ROM either) Point 3 - Resistance Profile - add bands to the bottom of your squat to make the squat harder on the way up and to have tension on the top of the rep as well. “I told myself I wasn’t allowed to complain about things I wasn’t doing anything to change or improve. So I started changing and improving.” I don’t know who wrote this quote but I believe in it so deeply, I felt compelled to share. I firmly believe that it is entirely pointless, detrimental even, to complain about things you’re not doing anything to change or improve. If you’re complaining about things that are outside of your control, you’re just wasting time and energy. If you’re complaining about things that are within your control, you had better actually be doing something to make better that which you are complaining about. Otherwise, your complaining is completely futile. And even if you ARE doing something to make better that which you’re complaining about, it would be far more worth your while to direct that complaining energy toward action instead. Action, action, action. Words and thoughts mean nothing without the actions to back them. You can goal set and manifest all you want on paper or on the notes section of your phone, but those words are meaningless until you actually do the thing you say you want to do. Without action, your words are just dreams. And not dreams in the sense of something great to work toward, but dreams in the sense of something you could only *dream* of ever coming true. Dreams without action are just fairytales fantasies, and those truly only exist in movies; if you actually want your dreams to come true, start doing something about it. Throughout my life, I have encountered many people who complain. And those people do not stay in my life for very long. I don’t allow that sort of person into my life because they can only hold me back from living out my fullest potential. You deserve to ONLY have people in your life who lift you up and who lift themselves up because complaining will get neither of you anywhere. Adopting an all-positive mindset IS a choice and ultimately the one that will get you the furthest, especially when you’re not yet where you want to be. Choose to believe that your goals are within your control, and that you are the type of person to take action toward your goals. Adopt that identity now.

How to traumatize all your muscles. It’s the @alexia_clark Friday Wildcard without. Today was ladder sets! Starting with 25 reps for the first exercise and 5 reps for the second exercise. Each round do 5 less reps for the first exercise and 5 more reps for the second. At the end of each round, do the hold exercise for as long as possible. That got very spicy especially by the 4th round of 5. Whew!
