I really enjoyed it and it was unfortunate that it was read in parallel to To Kill the Mockingbird, so it gets only four stars. There are certain pros and cons of reading two or more books in parallel. You can guess the cons, but the pros are that you are seeing surprising connections. The Guncle and To Kill the Mockingbird have quite a lot in common - I saw them both as parenting books. Atticus and Patrick have a similar parenting style, at least how they treat kids as adults. The Guncle is everywhere promoted as a "light-hearted" read, but I actually found it rather sad. It's a book about grief. "Grief orbits the heart. Some days the circle is greater. Those are the good days. You have room to move and dance and breathe. Some days the circle is tighter. Those are the hard ones." There is also a very strong vibe of aging, youth lost, time having slipped through fingers like sand. I read the excerpt from his next book The Celebrants and it seems it's a permanent vibe in his books? As I'm in the same age bracket and moodiness, I enjoyed it. "He looked older, but he liked it. He had lived a life and survived it." And finally, I really enjoyed looking at the world from the gay perspective. "Gay people have a sad history, but most of us, we overcome it. Weâre kicked out of our small-town families, then embrace cities and make new families and build brilliant lives. We were beaten, and so we became strong, and now our bodies are envied. A generation wiped out by a virus, but our lives are still a celebrationâwe made frosé a thing, for godâs sake. Weâre discriminated against, we become a political power. That sort of thing. We thrive, all of us."

Book 3 in the Joe Talbert series features Joeâs girlfriend Lila who is working in the prosecutors office. A case brings up similarities to her own attack 8 years back. It canât be the same person?? The Life We Bury~ Book 1, may still be my favorite suspense thriller ever and glad the series continued! ð Favourite Book ð ðDay 9 of @missresourcefulness back to school teacher challenge. ð Is it fair to call a book one of your favourites if youâve not finished it yet? Well, Iâm going out on a limb here and Iâm saying that this first one pictured is a cracker! So many pearls of wisdom for aspiring school leaders. ðThe second book pictured is my all time favourite novel to read to children. Complete with ALL the voices and accents, my students seem to remember this for years to come. ðThe third book is Five Dysfunctions of a Team which was recommended to me by a friend (and Principal) and I devoured it in 3 nights and then loaned it to another Principal. Do you collect versions of the same book??! I do!! Especially if they come out as a new set! I think itâs verrrry easy to have multiple Jane Austen novels because she only wrote six (excluding the recent publications of her unfinished work or juvenilia). Mansfield Park would not be my favourite of Austenâs books âŠand yet these are not my only two copies!! I have two others also lurking on my bookshelf! ðð Does anyone else buy multiple copies and if so, why? . . There are some books I love but Iâll never buy more than one copy of it - Sometimes thatâs got to do with whether the book was given to me as a gift or whether itâs a contemporary novel. Book 21 of 2022: 5/5 âïž Leigh Bardugo just gets better and better. The world building in the Grishaverse is astounding. The setting is atmospheric, the characters have depth. I just love it. I'm not really a strict monthly/yearly tbr person but here's some books I'm super excited to get to soon! Because I read so many books at one time I tend to diversify the genre/category so they don't don't blend together.
