What was your last read and how was it?✨⁣ ✨⁣ Mine was Strike The Zither by @joanhewrites and it was soo amazing!❣️✨ It's been a while since a fantasy book wow-ed me like this but I'm very happy about this one!🤩 There's nothing I could love more than a calculating and arrogant protagonist in my books! I'm a Zephyr fangirl now 😆 I also love sickly love interests so that was an added bonus!⁣ ⁣ This one is a genderbent reimagining of Three Kingdoms set in a realm with many warring factions and Zephyr is the strategist for Xin Ren, a warlordess with her own set of principles. Zephyr is determined to win the war for her, even if it means that she'll have to pretend to betray her while infiltrating their enemy Miasma's camp. She also wants to secure some alliances for Ren and is ready to make some sacrifices for it. But things don't always go according to plan, do they? And Miasma's strategist Crow seems to see right through her and he has some surprises hidden up his sleeve(pocket?😂)⁣ ⁣ I loved the writing and the characters in this one! Zephyr(one of her many sobriquets) is a multifaceted character with her arrogance, intelligence and talents. She's quite ruthless at times - to herself and others, but her loyalty to Ren is unshakable and that makes her very interesting! I also loved Ren and her swornsisters - Lotus, Cloud and Tourmaline. They were all very different in character and in their relationship with Zephyr too(varying from like to dislike) but they have such close knit bonds!⁣ There was constant action and the political intrigue had me turning the pages! There were some nice twists in the second half and towards the end too! The hints of romance with Crow had me smiling but I'm hesitant to hope for more as I don't know how things will work out in book two after that ending 🫣😂 Safe to say, I'm very excited to read Sound The Gong now!⁣ Also, love the character illustrations and artwork in the paperback version!❣️✨

Do you play any musical instruments? Or is there any that you'd love to learn?✨⁣ ✨⁣ I used to play the ukulele but it's been more than 2 years since I last touched it lol. I'd love to learn how to play the violin or piano maybe!❣️✨ I finished reading Song Of The Six Realms by @judyilinauthor (out tomorrow!) this weekend and it was an amazing fantasy read with a protagonist who's a gifted musician adept at playing the qín!⁣ ⁣ Guxue lost her family at a young age and was taken in by her uncle to be raised, but later when he sets off on his travels, she ends up apprenticing at a popular entertainment house. Due to her parents' crimes, their names have been removed from the records and Xue has no way of leading a normal life unless she could earn a pardon. After a few years, she learns that her uncle has been killed in a bandit attack and she's resigned herself to a lifetime of servitude while playing the qín until she meets a mysterious patron who asks for a private performance and puts forth a tempting offer. Duke Meng asks her to serve as a musician in his residence for a year after which she could be freed from her contract and after learning about the connection between her uncle and his mentor she agrees. But, after reaching his residence she ends up with more questions than answers and after some run-ins with some dangerous monsters, she learns that her life and all of the realms may be in peril.⁣ ⁣ I would love to see a drama adaptation of this book because the xianxia vibes were so good! Xue is an amazing MC with so much hidden strength and courage! I loved the musical descriptions and how the book was broken down into verses and interludes with some special stories that tied into the overall plot! I think my favorite part was definitely the world building which was quite detailed with the different realms and their histories. The writing was also very beautiful and rich with descriptions that were very vivid and lifelike! I was also very invested in uncovering the mystery along with Xue and Meng Jinglang - who was a very sweet love interest. Overall, this was an amazing YA fantasy read and I hope there will be a sequel or more books set in this world!

Qotd: Do you like learning about the inspiration behind a book? What’s been Good morning, hope the Monday blues are not getting you too hard this week! I had a great weekend spending time with my boyfriend and checking up with a friend. In book news, I recently finished Immortal Longings by Chloe Gong. This was the first book of Chloe’s that I picked up and while it didn’t completely blow me away, I thought it had a lot of potential as a first book in a trilogy Immortal Longings follows Calla Tuolemi, an exiled princess, who enters her country’s brutal annual tournament to get her revenge on the uncle, who exiled her. As she cuts a bloody swath through the games, Calla meets Anton Makusa, a player equally motivated to win. The two form an unlikely alliance and soon realize that they are more similar than they imagined. But the game can only have one winner … and losing means death. I originally picked this book up, because I read that it was inspired by Shakespeare’s Anthony and Cleopatra. Immortal Longings does not seek to be a re-telling of the play, but I enjoyed the nods to it throughout the book. I also enjoyed that despite, the dystopian world the story stayed dark rather than depressing. Calla and Anton had me hooked from their first appearances on the page and I loved the “will they or won’t they” aspects of the story. I did feel that there were a few plot holes in the story and wish the side characters were more developed. The last portion of the book was really the most fast pace and the part that kept me truly hooked. The cliffhanger was not completely unexpected, but I still enjoyed it and will be continuing with the series as I’d like to know what is in store for these characters #immortallongings #sagapress #sagapressbooks #asianinspiredfantasy #shakespeareaninspiration #enemiestoloversrecs #onlyonewinner #chloegongauthor #fantasyreadersofinstagram #bookwormsofinstagram #flatlaymonday

Like her previous books, in The Fox Wife, Yangsze Choo has penned down some beautiful prose relating a tale that is a perfect mixture of history, mystery and folklore. The book is set in 1908 Manchuria and is told through a dual PoV narrative, alternating with each chapter. When a young woman is found frozen to death in the snow outside a restaurant, the proprietor hires Bao to investigate. Bao is in his sixties and is well known for his penchant for sniffing out the truth, a skill that unknown to others is helped out by a strange power he acquired as a child. Meanwhile, a mysterious young woman who goes by the name of Snow is on a mission to track down a photographer and have her vengeance for a wrong we are not initially privy to. She ends up in the service of a family that owns a famous Chinese medicine shop. The family is unfortunately also cursed, as every generation, the first son dies young. As Bao carries out his investigations, we are treated to his backstory, of his childhood, the girl who was his closest friend and their fascination with foxes. Much is also gradually revealed about Snow, her supernatural nature and the reason she is on the hunt for the elusive photographer. The story moves rather slowly and there is a lot of repetition; two things I would usually complain about but somehow in this book, this just added to the enchantment of the story. The sense of mystery is pervasive throughout the story. Many dead bodies turn up and the burning question seems to be who is responsible. If you're in it for the answer to that question, I'm afraid the conclusion is anticlimactic in that regard. However, that's no reason to write the book off completely because it is much more than its mysteries. What really had me hooked were the characters (who were all beautifully written) and their connections to each other as well as the charming settings and the glimpse into Chinese mythology brought to life within this work of fiction. My rating - 4⭐️ Thanks for the book @definitelybooks

Hello, all! Are you looking forward to anything this week? Thought I'd make the most of the roses, while they are still around, especially since they almost match this beautiful cover - isn't it gorgeous? Check out the water dragon, kelpie and sirens. The spine is really pretty too, always a bonus for the bookshelf! Fathomfolk is one of those books that is super easy to get into, and it's one I was immediately intrigued by - the set up and world is fascinating from the first chapter. Got to love a fantasy like that! It's set in a semi-flooded city, where humans coexist with the fathomfolk who live below - kelpies, sirens, sea-witches and kappas. Half-siren Mira is captain of the city guard and she's trying her hardest to make life better for the repressed fathomfolk, but when a water dragon is exiled to the city and joins an extremist group, Mira's gentle approach is threatened. Meanwhile, a sea-witch is disrupting things further... Now tell me this isn't a cool concept! So original, I don't think I've come across anything quite like it. I absolutely loved the world Chan has created here - it’s East Asian inspired and full of creatures from mythology who feel as real as the humans who inhabit this book. I particularly loved that most of the creatures could change from their natural form to a human form, which was so useful and fun to read! This is a classic story of a repressed people who are suffering from prejudice and ill treatment, and who choose to fight the system in different ways. There’s lots of rebellion and revolution, as well as betrayals, bargains, and political intrigue, but there’s also some very moving scenes and several MCs who you really care about and who are doing their best for their people within a system that makes success almost impossible. I think Fathomfolk has everything going for it - good writing, very solid world building, originality and heart. The resolution was very interesting and means book two could be quite different from this one, I think! I can’t wait to read it. Thanks so much to @hachettenz for this lovely novel.❤️

• • • • • Unbezahlte Werbung • #andreastewart #thebonesharddaughter #knochensplitterpalast #fantasy #asianinspiredfantasy #bookstagram #bookphotography #bookiesupport #book #booklover #booklove #bookstagramgermany #bookaholic #booknerd #bookaddict #bookblogger #reading #readingtime #readingaddict #readingislife #readinglove #bücher #bücherliebe #bücherwurm #büchersüchtig #bücherwelt #lesen #lyxverlag

✨The Celestial Kingdom Duology✨ • Mögt ihr Asian Inspired fantasy? [eARC through NetGalley] Publication date: 09/04/2024 Spice: 🌶 (one mild scene, ends rather quickly) Ex is a hunter. A Phi Hunter; slaying ghosts and demons of the Suyoram Kingdom is all what he did for the last 12 years. Dreaming of becoming a true Demon Slayer by hunting down Shar-Ala, a demon of nightmares. Meeting a heavily pregnant woman in a backwater village asking for his help to reach the local hedgewitch is not part of his plans. Yet, as the bounties for slaying monsters, and peddling their body parts, decrease each time, he has no other way than to accept it as the woman pays well. While they reach the witch, the story of Ex and Arinya does not end there. A fast-paced, action-ridden fantasy novel set in a Thai-inspired world. The book is jammed with Thai folklore, lots of ghosts and monsters, demon hunters, and quite bloody action. (If you are squeezy when blood, innards & co are mentioned, you might want to skip "The Last Phi Hunter" or consider the warning when ordering the book.) While there is romance in the story, it is subtle and in the background. So, please don't expect some romantasy! It is a dark fantasy novel after all. Aside from ghosts and monsters, the author also explores themes like spirituality (especially as the old ways are threatened by a new religion and general progress), loneliness and how it affects people, one's identity within society, as well as race and class. . . . #salineegoldenberg #salineegoldenbergauthor #thelastphihunter #netgalley #netgalleyarc #netgalleyreview #netgalleyreads #thaiinspired #fantasybooks #fantasynovel #asianinspiredfantasy #bookstagram #bookstagrammers #bookstagramgermany #bookreview #bookreviewer #bookreviewblogger #bookcommunity #bookcommunitygermany #germanbookcommunity #germanbookstagrammer #germanbookblogger #bookaholics #bookaholicsgermany #bookgram #bookgramgermany #2024books #2024booksread #bookrecommendations #bookrecommendations📚

Zachary Ying and the Dragon Emperor by Xiran Jay Zhao (@xiranjayzhao) was the fifth book I finished this month! I’m giving it 4 stars. This book was described as Yu-Gi-Oh meets Percey Jackson and that’s not something I realized I wanted until I read thus book. I want to add that though I love both of those series, and definitely noticed some of the similarities, I would argue there were also some Shaman King vibes which only made things that much better in my opinion. The story follows 12 year old Zachary Ying as he essentially enters into a new world. As we followed him through his adventure, I had to remind myself that he was twelve a few times because I would end up picturing him as a 16 year old just because of the things he had to deal with. If I was 12, I would have probably just died regardless of the magic or the emperors involved. Actually, he probably would have to if not for his friends. The story was fun and exciting. I learned a lot about Chinese history that I hadn’t before and it only made me more interested in learning more! The ending, though, was completely rude and designed to get people to want the next book (which it works on me because I will be waiting with baited breath for the second in the series). Have you read this series? What’s a popular show combination that you would love to see one day? . . . #zacharyyingandthedragonemperor #xiranjawzhao #chinesefiction #chinesefantasy #chineseinspiredfantasy #asianfantasy #asianinspiredfantasy #chineseauthor #aapiauthor #yearofthedragon #fantasy #urbanfantasy #yugioh #shamanking #percyjackson #bookstagram #bookblog #bookbloggersofinstagram

❓ How was everyone's weekend? The Last Bloodcarver - Vanessa Le 📕13/90 4.25 ⭐ 52 Book Club Challenge Prompt: 29. Published in a Year of the Dragon ➡️ for synopsis Y'all, this was awesome. I had a great time reading this book. Our main girl, Nhika, is a survivor and I like her attitude. As someone from a diaspora community, she struggles with honoring/preserving her culture, her ancestors, and her gift, but also finding a place to belong in a world that demonizes her kind. Nhika is a Yarongese, casting her as an outsider wherever she goes. She's also a bloodcarver, which even that is a word of propaganda. In her culture, she's called a heartsooth because it was always a gift meant to heal others. After she's pulled into healing the witness to a murder, she meets Ven Kochin, a physician's assistant. He's hiding something and doing everything to try and push Nhika out. I would have loved to delve more into his backstory. The other characters could have been amazing, but we don't really get to know any of them all that well. I love a murder mystery plot. Add some fantasy in there and I'm sold. I haven't read another book where a character can heal the way that Nhika does. Heartsoothing allows her to mesh herself into the body of another person. As a biology major, I appreciated some of the descriptions of the human body. The map at the beginning has some interesting components, like a phospholipid bilayer. Kudos. The overall pacing of the story was fine, but it did feel a little rushed in the end. The romance aspect doesn't hit until later on in the book, but it felt very insta-love and it was too underdeveloped for the ending. I won this ARC in a Goodreads Giveaway. The book is so fast paced and more focused on action + character development and lesser on world building. Maybe this is why I found it tiring to read at some point because it felt like we were always travelling or doing something. It felt like I was on a series marathon. I really wish Seryu, the dragon had more screen time. Still, I enjoyed this book and would recommend it to anyone who likes strong female main characters like Mulan, cute dragons that can transform into humans, literally fairytale romance, sweet siblings love and affection, forbidden magic, evil demons, and basically whimsical fantasy stories. #sixcrimsoncranes #bookreview #elizabethlim #fantasyreads #magicalworld #bookishthoughts #enchantingtales #asianinspiredfantasy #bookmagic #bookloverscommunity #yabooks #bookishadventures #bookrecommendations #mustread #booknerd #booksbebitchinbookreviews #booksbebitchin

The Girl Who Fell Beneath The Sea by Axie Oh Rating:⭐️⭐️⭐️ First of all can we all appreciate the beautiful, beautiful artwork for this cover😍 Second of all, I had very high expectations for this books but unfortunately I didn’t love it as much as I thought I would. I believe the biggest reason for that is that I didn’t like the main character much, I didn’t hate her but I liked literally every other character more than her and I think that automatically takes away from the enjoyment of the story. The world building was good and so was the mystery although there remained some unanswered questions. I was a little confused by some things some of the “villains” did but maybe I just missed their motives🤷🏻‍♀️ It’s a short book and was fairly fast paced and fun to read overall, I would recommend it if you’re looking for a sweet, Asian inspired fantasy standalone but I’d also recommend Six Crimson Cranes and the Blood of Stars duology by Elizabeth Lim, I really enjoyed those books and they were the ones that set my expectations for this one👌🏻 . . . . . . . . . . #thegirlwhofellbeneaththesea #denizinaltınadüşenkız #axieoh #asianinspiredfantasy #bookreview #bookreviews #beautifulcovers #beautifulcoverart #fantasybooks #fantasystandalone #booksbooksbooks #bookstagram #yabanciyayinlari #yabancıyayınları

~ 𝗗𝗡𝗙 "𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄" 🫤 Q: Do you ever DNF books? Generally I try not to, but going into 2024 (and so early) I don't want to waste my time on something I'm just not enjoying sadly, especially when there are soooo many books on my shelves that are burning to be read. I've added the synopsis of the book in the comments below for reference 👇 I thought (and still think) the premise of this book is super cool. I love the blending of sea creatures with humans and loved the political element. Unfortunately for me, despite being positioned as a new adult fantasy, I felt this read much more YA, which just isn't to my taste. Whilst I could recognise the adult tone it was going for, it just didn't have the depth (paha pun not intended) I was craving and at times, I actually found it comparable to Disney 😬 The political and environmental undertones were ambitious, but I just felt it didn't quite hit. I could recognise the messaging it was trying to convey, but it became diluted with gimmicks and unlikeable characters. Which brings me onto the characters - I just couldn't get invested and wasn't interested. I was given snippets of their back stories but it was so minimal, I just couldn't invest and didn't care, maybe I'd get more if I continued. I also cringed quite a bit at the moments I think we're supposed to be inspirational 😬 It did have good points, the world building was quite beautiful and unlike anything I've read before. It's very sensory with colours, smells and food to appeal to all the senses - I can imagine all the artwork that will come from it! Please don't let my review deter you, as I think this is definitely down to taste and I can recognise that this could be a favourite for a lot of readers. Sadly, this one just wasn't working for me. Hope everyone is having a lovely weekend 😁

This duology marks my first reads of 2024, and it was a fun time! These Chinese-mythology inspired fantasy novels aren’t really doing anything new; I definitely felt like I had seen this anime or played this video game before. That said, it was full of things I enjoy - Demons and ghosts! Martial arts! Dramatic love confessions before a final battle! - so I can't knock it too much. The timeline kinda bounces around here in confusing ways, and the philosophical debates about Balance and War are overdone. But I liked the cast of characters and the ending did make me a little emotional!! This duology is worth a read if you're in the mood for a solid YA Asian-inspired fantasy. ⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 for both 📚 Q: What are we reading this weekend, friends?  #BookReview #DarkStarBurningAshFallsWhite #AmélieWenZhao #SongOfTheLastKingdom #AsianInspiredFantasy #YAFantasy #FantasyDuology #SongOfSilverFlameLikeNight

@toritalks91 's newest release and first Epic Fantasy is an impressive character study of loyalty, tradition, and family and what happens when all of those things are threatened. While the plot takes a backseat, characters and political machinations dominate the stage, and we get to experience the beginnings of a legend. Multiple cultural inspirations are present within this story, blending Asian and more Nordic Viking styles leading to a rich world that stays interesting throughout. On one end is the Bruhai, a group of young boys stripped from their families, friends, and everything they've known, and plunged into intense and bloody training in the name of the king. On the other, a tribe of warriors fighting for survival, forced to look for aid beyond their own borders and tradition or face complete annihilation. This is a story of struggle. Of morality. Of found family, loyalty, and what it MEANS to be loyal for each individual. It explores identity, politics, indoctrination, and how each can affect people differently. #thebloodstones is an indie fantasy that promises a full, deep, rich world with characters that will steal your heart. The Bruhai boys are buried so deep within my soul that I can not wait to see more of them in the next books, and I just want to wrap each one in a huge hug. If you're a fan of anime, Asian culture and/or a more Viking feel to your books and characters; if you like found family, a motley crew and sibling relationship exploration; if you want to support indie authors and are looking for a character focused book that solidly sets the stage for the rest of the series, pick up this book. 4/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ #bookstagrammer #bookstagram #booklifestyle #bookcollector #booksofinstagram #booksmakemehappy #booksaremylife #bookreview #bookworm #indiefantasy #indiefantasyauthor #fantasy #asianinspiredfantasy #norseinspiredfantasy #ilovebooks #ihaveabookproblem #readmorefantasy #readersofinstagram #adultfantasybooks #epicfantasy #selfpublished #selfpub #supportindieauthors #bookadict #booklover #booknerd #bookshelfie #legendsofthebruhai

Partial Function by @joe_berne was wild! I think this is the most fun I have had while reading in 2023! This action packed, fast-paced, full of wit book had me laughing, on the edge of my seat and needing to turn the page, in each and every chapter. Akina Azure's girls have been taken from her, and she wants them back. Unconcerned with what it costs her in the long run, even if it means giving the most powerful weapon the world has seen to another clan, Akina is one mamma you do not want to cross. Wars will wage, wedge's will rise and dog will dog, you will love every second of it. If you are looking for phenomenal Wuxia inspired world building, a cast of characters you can't help but love to follow and magic fuelled action, don’t miss out on Partial Function. #partialfunction #jcmberne #fantasy #fantasybooks #fantasyreads #asianinspiredfantasy #indiereads #indiefantasy #selfpub #selfpubfantasy #bookrecommendations #bookreview #bookstagram

“Flayed and boneless, he faced the creature he had awakened, this woman of gods’ blood and fury.” — The Sword of Kaigen: A Theonite War Story by M. L. Wang 🗡️🗡️🗡️🗡️.5/5 What an absolutely epic Japanese-inspired fantasy, my gawd this book is definitely worth the hype. I went into this book blind and I hope you do too. I had no idea what to expect except a murderous momma. The character work in this book is absolutely exceptional, all the characters were so well thought out and I absolutely loved them. This is where the book stands out for me. The world building is fantastic as well, the magic system is not always clear to me but our main characters can control water, other countries have people that can control different elements. The world outside Kaigen was a little rough for me, I had a hard time visualizing the different cultures. However, this didn’t take away from the story at all. The themes of motherhood in this book were so well done. What is a mother’s role, what is expected of them, how they should feel, and how selfless they need to be, were such a big part of this story. I absolutely loved this. There is a great deal here about honor, bravery, loyalty, and relationships in general. The author executed these things beautifully. Why doesn’t this book have 5 stars? I struggled with the structure just a bit. The pacing was odd. The story’s climax is a little over halfway through the book. The rest is the aftermath of this climax. I kept thinking something else would happen. In no way should this keep you from reading this glorious book though.

If I could change a few things I might do that, but if that could affect many other things and change my life completely I might not. Also, would a chance to do that come without strings attached? I guess I should stop overthinking this lol. But I love reading stories like these where the protagonist goes back in time or gets a second chance at life!❣️✨ Who doesn't have regrets lol. And bonus points if the book involves a revenge plot😆 It's kind of a common theme in manhwas and chinese novels and I think my obsession with reading these started with Shen Miao's story from Rebirth of the Malicious Empress. This made me very excited to read A Bright Heart by @katechenli.author which has a MC who gets a second chance at life and wishes to get revenge while changing things(also how pretty is that cover?😍)⁣ ⁣ In her last life, Mingshin worked hard to put her fiance on the throne but was rewarded with betrayal and death. When she gets a second chance to do it all over again, she's determined to be smarter this time and to prevent Ren from becoming the king while she protects her mother from her scheming uncle and cousins. Though some things have stayed the same, there seem to be many changes too and Mingshin is pulled back into the vortex of the royal court and political intrigue, with the addition of magic - something that she hadn't known about in her previous life. ⁣ ⁣ This was an interesting debut novel with a protagonist that I grew to love! Mingshin's rebirth gives her more experience, but she still has a lot to learn and I loved watching her character growth! She tries her best to correct things while still holding on to her bottomline. The plot was also intriguing with the inclusion of magic - and that surprised me in a good way! I was waiting to see what would happen next and it was really good! I hope it gets even better in the next book!⁣ ⁣ Full review up on the blog(with a giveaway)! This one comes out on 10/17 so make sure to check it out if you're interested in a YA fantasy with a revenge plot and political intrigue(or if you're a fan of c-dramas😆)!❣️✨

A must-read for fans of the Six Crimson Cranes duology, Her Radiant Curse takes us back in time to provide a detailed account of Channi's backstory. Those who have read Six Crimson Cranes and The Dragon's Promise will already be familiar with the gist of that story but this book tells it in such rich detail that it feels like meeting people you have previously only heard a lot about. The origins of the pearl, the true story of the two sisters and many other questions you may not even have known you had after reading the duology are finally answered here. Though this story comes first chronologically, I'd suggest starting this only after the duology for a better reading experience. Though I already knew how it was going to end, and the bittersweet conclusion that was awaiting Channi, the journey there was an engrossing one, filled with daring adventures and plenty of heartache. Channi is an immensely likeable character, shunned by almost everyone for her cursed face. Her resolve to keep her sister safe and her loyalty to her friends, despite all the hardships she faced, really made me warm up to her, especially knowing who she would eventually become. This is the kind of YA fantasy book I'd love to see more of. A well-written, clearly developed story, with both heartwarming and heartbreaking scenes. And, most of all, it doesn't place an undue focus on romance with characters constantly lusting over each other. The Dragon's Promise was just so-so for me, but with Her Radiant Curse, Elizabeth Lim wowed me just as she did with Six Crimson Cranes. My rating - 4.25⭐️ Book courtesy of @definitelybooks

✨ BOOK REVIEW 💙 Happy Release Day to @anastasisblythe !! #DaughterOfDarknessAndDreams packs so much goodness!! Swipe if you want to see the tagline, a beautiful and powerful quote that I loved (especially when read within context), and some of the tropes this book features. 🤗 ✨ #BookReview: Where do I start? This book was fantastic!! The author said this one was the series climax and she totally delivered!! It was So good!! Like, you're both going to want to savor it/pace yourself and inhale it in one sitting, so good luck if you choose the first one, and clear your schedule if you're going for the latter. There are so many things I loved in this book! Meiling's growth/standing up for herself and others, the different kinds of love going around (not only romantic, though there's plenty of that one, but also in friendships and family), the upping the stakes and what it means for the story (more conflict, higher stakes, plenty of hold your breath moments), the action (it's always so much fun seeing all the magic wielders in action!), Oh, and the cameos! (I loved Master Dong's convo with Delan, and it's always such a treat seeing what Shi Kai is up to, as well as his relationship with Aranya. Oh, and Nianzu as father, emperor and fire wielder? #yesplease 🤩). Seriously, there are so many things to love here, and I could definitely go on and on, but I'll just add a bit more on the "romantic love" comment, because guys, a flirty, talkative, swoony Shang is totally worth the wait 😍 (there are a couple of chapters that are *chef's kiss* in this regard, and will have you moving him up in the swoon hero list *dreamy sigh*). Brace yourself for the gamut of emotions in this roller coaster ride, because you'll definitely laugh, swoon, and even cry or tear up in a certain scene. Anastasis Blythe has definitely knocked it out of the park with this one. It's definitely a worthy addition to the #ZheninghaiChronicles, and I'm not sure I'm ready for this series to be over, but I'll definitely be looking forward to the next (and final) book in this series. ~ 5+ (whispering) stars! 😉 ✨ #SweetFantasyRomance #RomantasyBooks #AsianInspiredFantasy #bookstagram

The youth of today are lucky to grow up with so many options to read (in English) about Asian heroines having epic fantasy adventures. And you know what? We’re lucky they exist and we’re getting to witness this shift in publishing. I already love Iron Widow by @xiranjayzhao. I’m looking forward to reading Six Crimson Cranes by @elimpix and The Girl Who Fell Beneath the Sea by @axieoh! #bookstagram #aapiauthors #aapifemaleauthors #aapiwomenlead #aapiwomen #bøkerpåinstagram #fantasybooks #reading #bookpile #aapibooks #strongfemalelead #asianheroine #asianinspiredfantasy #asianlegends #retellings #看書 #愛看書 #ironwidow #wuzetian #sixcrimsoncranes #thegirlwhofellbeneaththesea

Unique, swoon-worthy vampire romance with an Asian mythology twist! (My reviewers' words, not mine!) The Tainted and the Tamed is available in Kindle Unlimited, or grab it for $2.99. I spent my day cleaning up all the things I neglected while finishing this and another project. I still have a bit of formatting left to do on the novelette I wrote for the Shift of the Seasons charity anthology, then that'll be sent off! Then I have one more anthology story to complete! 😅 The Tainted and the Tamed is part of the Bound by Blood multi-author series. The next Bound by Blood novella arrives this Friday, with a new book launch every Friday through October 20th. #fantasyromance #spicybookstagram #asianinspiredfantasy #slowburnromance #morallygreycharacters #chronicillnessrepresentation #thetaintedandthetamed #boundbybloodseries

More reviews are coming in, and early readers are loving the steamy vampire romance combined with Asian mythology. Plus the swoony, slow-burn romance and chronic illness rep! Available in Kindle Unlimited. The next book in the Bound by Blood multi-author series releases Friday, and it has disability rep, too! QOTD: What type of dragon do you like best? Are you more into wise talking dragons, magical asian inspired dragons, fiercy nordic dragons, the alien type of dragons or something else entirely? So we were MIA for a bit because one of us is touring Malaysia at the moment and the other is switching jobs. But when our @subpress edition of the Dragon Republic came in we had to do the dragon cover challenge we were tagged in by @myhomeisalibrary ages ago. Of course I went way beyond the assigned 4 books and I think I still forgot some faves. I do think I got some of the best ones though and a cool selection of different types of dragons! I hope you guys agree. 🔷️ Bitter Twins by Jen Williams - because war beasts are also kinda dragons 🍊 Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon (and the prequel) - dragon overload 🧝‍♂️Age of Empyre by Michael J Sullivan - Magical dragons for life 👥 Shadow of the Gods by John Gwynn - Scary dragon god ⚔️ Rage of Dragons by Evan Winter - African Inspired Dragons 🔥 Waking Fire by Anthony Ryan - The weird kind of dragon 🐉Dragon Republic by R.F. The Tainted and the Tamed is launching Friday! You can get it for 99c until Friday. Am I ready for this launch? Technically, yes. But actually? Haaaahaha! (Seriously though, when is an author ever really "ready" to punt their work out into the world?) When I lived in Japan I was lucky enough to visit some beautiful parks and gardens, including the famous Kenrokuen in Kanazawa. Vampire chairman/former lord Haruki's castle grounds are inspired by Kenrokuen and the gardens around Nijo Castle in Kyoto. The festival was also inspired by the festivals I attended in Hachinohe, Fuchuu and the famous, fabulous Nebuta festival in Aomori City. My photos are all on data CDs to give you an idea of how long ago this was! 📍 on a frozen lake - Frostplum, Sardovia 💬 what upcoming releases are you excited about? I’m somehow becoming that niche book blogger who reads Asian fantasies and honestly, I’m not even mad. I saw “fantasy romance trilogy set in a Southeast Asia-inspired” and immediately requested an ARC. It was only afterwards that I found out about the history (we love seeing fanfic writers living the dream here) behind The Hurricane Wars and found out it was super hyped, so imagine my surprise when I got a copy in the mail! Shoutout to @harpervoyagerus for sending some major book mail to this little Bookstagram 🥲 ➸ Link in bio for more upcoming Asian-inspired fantasies.

If you were transported into the last book you'd read where would you be and how would you fare?✨ ✨ I'd be in the world of Her Radiant Curse by @elimpix and I think I'd be fine as long as I stay away from magic and demons(not sure how safe I'd be lol)!❣️✨ Honestly this was such a fantastic read and I was so engrossed while reading this one that I couldn't put it down for a single minute! Channi is just a few years old when her sister Vanna is born with a captivating radiance, and their father leaves Channi in the jungle hoping to save their mother's life by offering her to Angma the Demon Witch. But, Channi ends up being cursed with the face of a serpent and shunned by the whole village. The only light in her life is the bond that she shares with her sister. And with her sister's seventeenth birthday approaching their father decides to marry off Vanna in a contest where kings compete for her hand by showing off their wealth. She is determined to protect her sister from these vile suitors, and from Angma who had warned her that she'd be coming for Vanna soon. But how far will she be willing to go for the only family that she loves? Channi is such an interesting and complex protagonist as she's fierce and loyal to a fault. But at the same time, she gets angry very quickly and is hyper focused on vengeance too. Though she's been treated unfairly she retains some goodness while making friends of the scaly variety as she can communicate with them 😂 Vanna was the only one who actually loved Channi unconditionally and though there was no doubt about Channi's love for her sister, I also wondered about how much of it was influenced by her promise to her mother and perhaps by Vanna's abilities too. I think that's what made this story very fascinating and complex. Elizabeth's writing is very beautiful and brings everything to life! I'm not ashamed to admit that I shed a tear or two at certain moments 😢 In the end, this is a spell-binding fantasy story that's centered around sisterhood and magic with some amazing characters! Though this is a prequel to Six Crimson Cranes it works perfectly well as a standalone and I think almost everyone would enjoy this!❣️✨

A few weeks ago I took a chance on this contemporary YA fantasy because @whattheredheadread gave it such a glowing review. I liked Daughter of the Moon Goddess pretty well, though some of the dialogue seemed a little unbelievable, but maybe I just don’t get it because of cultural differences? I don’t know, I just felt like a lot of the “banter” seemed a bit over the top and unlikely that people would actually talk that way? Maybe it’s just me though. 🤷‍♀️ For a debut novel it is really quite good, and for a contemporary YA it’s not bad at all. All things considered, I give it four stars. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I think if I were more familiar with Chinese folklore I would probably appreciate it more, but the overall story was quite good, and I think I can guess which elements were from the old Chinese legends. Also, this cover is gorgeous.💖 I used to be a bit of a xenophile when it came to Asian art and I still think it’s really beautiful. I used to collect a lot of pieces, but a few years ago I decide to sell a lot of it because “Cultural Appropriation” was a hot topic, and since I’ve never traveled anywhere outside of the North American continent (besides Hawaii), let alone anywhere in Asia, I felt like I didn’t have a good excuse to decorate my home with Asian art. I still have a few pieces though, like this pretty tea set. Do you love/appreciate a culture outside of your own? #evelynmercyreads #daughterofthemoongoddess #suelynntan #asianinspiredfantasy #asiandecor

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ — Q: Which books have been cover buys for you? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ A: Today I get to help with the cover reveal for Fathomfolk by Eliza Chan and I’m so excited to show you because this cover is just STUNNING. Kelly Chong did a beautiful job! 🤌🏻 If you haven’t heard of Fathomfolk by now, let me give you the synopsis: ‘Welcome to Tiankawi - shining pearl of human civilization and a safe haven for those fleeing civil unrest. Or at least, that's how it first appears. But in the semi-flooded city, humans are, quite literally, on top: peering down from shining towers and aerial walkways on the fathomfolk - sirens, seawitches, kelpies and kappas - who live in the polluted waters below.
For half-siren Mira, promotion to captain of the border guard means an opportunity to help her downtrodden people. But if earning the trust and respect of her human colleagues wasn't hard enough, everything Mira has worked towards is put in jeopardy when Nami, a know-it-all water dragon - fathomfolk royalty - is exiled to the city. When extremists sabotage the annual boat race, violence erupts, as does the clampdown on fathomfolk rights. Both Nami and Mira must decide if the cost of change is worth paying, or if Tiankawi should be left to drown.’ Fathomfolk will be out 29th February 2024! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ☓ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

As a child, Lady Jing, half-vampire and half-hulijing fox-spirit, was pawned off by her mother to the King of Hell. Now she spends her days testing her guardian's patience, doing the exact opposite of everything she should be doing because she doesn't care what anyone thinks and she wants them to know it! When she overhears the despicable Lady Soo plotting to steal the priceless dragon pearl, she is intent on exposing her. But unfortunately, no one believes Jing and she just ends up in even more trouble. With the help of Mr Lee, a mortal newly arrived to Hell, Jing sets out to prove to everyone that she was right after all. The setting of the story is crafted in detail; a Shanghai inhabited by immortals existing in parallel to mortal Shanghai, and filled with spirits and demons and deities. It is written with a historically accurate representation of the 1930s with fascinating details of Chinese mythology woven in. Jing herself in an interesting character. She battles with her all-encompassing need for blood, especially around Mr Lee and other mortals. The others of her kind consider her inferior to themselves because of her mixed heritage, resulting in her fiery devil-may-care attitude. Though the abuse inflicted on her was heartbreakingly conveyed, the portrayal of her feisty nature felt more stilted. It seemed the book was intent right from the beginning to shove this idea down your throat, resorting more to having her constantly spout obscenities rather than allowing the readers to slowly form a picture of her in their minds. Her character development does get better as the story progresses though, and it was a delight to witness her growth. I wasn't wowed by the book but I found there was a lot to like about it, despite its flaws. It's marketed as adult fantasy but it lacked the depth I've come to expect with that genre and read more like a well written YA fantasy to me. I'm still curious to see where the next book will lead. My rating - 3.75⭐️ Thanks for the proof copy @definitelybooks

What are your favourite edges on a book you own? If you don’t own any, what would you like to see on edges? ✨ I have so many *beautiful* edges now, but these have to be some of my favourites! This is the Illumicrate edition of Song of Silver, Flame Like Night, and the detail and colour on these edges is unreal. It was a gorgeous edition overall, but the edges really stand out on my shelf. The Girl Who Fell Beneath the Sea by Axie Oh was a delightful romp through eastern mythology and! Apparently also inspired a bit by Ghibli’s Spirited Away! So if you’re a Ghibli fan, you’re probably obligated to check it out. The main character, Mina, decides to step in and sacrifice herself when her brother’s beloved is about to be sacrificed to the god of the sea. Partly this is teenage impulse, but partly she’s sick of the yearly ritual and decides she’s going to intervene with the gods and put a stop to it. From there’s it’s really a wonderful fantasy world combining mythologies and folktales. There’s are mixed up/hidden identities amongst the gods and spirits in the world Mina slips into, and throughout the story she stubborns her way through heroism and stumbles into love. This is a sweet story with a strong female heroine and a triumphant HEA of a love story. It’s a perfect stand-alone and provides ideal closure. If you love Asian-inspired fantasy, this is going to hit the spot for you. #axieoh #thegirlwhofellbeneaththesea #yafantasy #asianinspiredfantasy #koreanmythology #koreaninspiredmythology #acreatureofthestacks

#aotd: What are some your favorite Asian-inspired fantasy books? • In honor of AAPI Heritage Month, I thought I’d share about one of my favorite reads this year—and one of my new favorite YA fantasy books—The Girl Who Fell Beneath the Sea by @axieoh . • The Girl Who Fell Beneath the Sea is about a girl who sacrifices herself to save her dear brother’s beloved and finds herself in a new spirit world as the Sea God’s new bride. But there are those who don’t want her to be the Sea God’s bride… • This book had a strong heroine, a beautiful world, Spirited Away vibes, interesting characters, and a plot that kept me guessing. Oh, and a gorgeous cover. 😉😍 I was caught up in every beautiful word. HIGHLY recommend. • The rest of the stack (along with The Dragon’s Promise and its predecessor Six Crimson Cranes) are unfortunately still on my TBR. 🤦🏻‍♀️ I want to read at least one of them before the end of the month. I can take a break from Mermay books for that! But which one to choose… any recs on which to start with?? • P. S. Also hoping to read one of @leialohahumpherys ‘s books for the Pacific Islander heritage part of this month 💕 probably Haukea! Hers are Hawaiian inspired fantasy books, which is unfortunately not super common 😕 • Art by @moonbound.studio 🖤 • #asianfantasy #yafantasy #asianinspiredfantasy #asianamericanheritagemonth #asianamericanbooks #thegirlwhofellbeneaththesea #axieoh #daughterofthemoongoddess #suelynntan #gumiho #wickedfox #katcho #amagicsteepedinpoison #jadefiregold #girlsofpaperandfire #adultfantasy #yafantasybooks #tbr #tbrstack #aapiheritagemonth #aapi #aapimonth #sixcrimsoncranes #thedragonspromise #elizabethlim #leialohahumpherys #hawaiianfantasy #polynesianfantasy #seagod

This book has destroyed me mind and soul and yet saved me in the same breath. Wow. What a wild ride from start to finish. I didn't expect this series to have me sobbing so much, but the sorrow was beautifully done with just enough hope underneath to keep me from crippling despair. There is a reason Julie Kagawa is my favourite author, and I am still upset with myself for taking so long to pick this series up and so long to finish it. I am so sad to be saying goodbye to these characters and this world. It was artfully done from start to finish. I feel like I can see it, the temples and mountains, and great forests. I can hear the whisper of the kami and smell the air. And each character is a part of my heart now in ways I never thought possible. They all went on such incredible journeys, and I am proud of each and every one of them. The plot was built to such an agonizing crescendo and had me guessing and gasping all the while. The way all the threads finally came together was awe-inspiring. I did not see much of it coming, but it made soooo much sense. The ending. The last couple chapters tore my soul out. And then the epilogue gave it back. The Shadow of The Fox trilogy has definitely been added to my favourites shelf, and I can't wait to buy copies of the second and third books to add to my collection. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ #review #bookreview #books #bookstagram #read #reader #reading #shadowofthefox #soulofthesword #fantasy #fantasybook #japanesebook #asianinspiredfantasy #asianfantasy #kitsune #samurai #bookworm #bookrecs #bookrecommendations #mustread

“Every villain is a hero of his or her own story” wrote Christopher Vogler in THE WRITER'S JOURNEY, which breaks down the Hero’s Journey archetype for screenwriters. A hero can embark on a journey only to become a villain in the end, whether it’s due to making one wrong choice or because they stand against current society’s sensibilities. That is why a compelling villain is often the other side of the same coin as the story’s hero. Vaishnavi Patel’s novel KAIKEYI is a feminist reimagining of the Hindu epic Ramayama told from the perspective of Queen Kaikeyi, stepmother of Shri Rama and one of the most despised figures in Hindu mythology. The novel introduces Kaikeyi as a young girl and only daughter of the King of Kekaya. When her mother is banished without any explanation, Kaikeyi takes up her duties in the royal court. She turns to the palace’s scrolls and eventually discovers magic that allows her to enter the Binding Plane, where she can exert magical influence over others. She is soon married off to the childless Dashararth, who promises to make her future son king. With her magic, she earns her place as queen by becoming a warrior and tactful diplomat dedicated to bettering women’s lives. As the story progresses, she helps raise her sister-wife’s son, Rama, who is eventually chosen as heir over her own son Bharata. Instead of the spiteful woman who wants to place her son on the throne for her own power, Patel’s Kaikeyi is seen more as a nuanced character who is caught between revolution and the destruction it may bring to her patriarchal kingdom. . . . . #AsianBooksChallenge #AsianBookChallenge #AsianBooksChallenge2023 #AsianReadAThon #AsianAmericanLit #AAPI #AsianInspiredFantasy #bookrecs #bookbingo

📚Book Review📚 The second book in the Shadow of The Fox trilogy was phenomenal from start to finish, and I regret taking so long to read book 1. I love all the characters and the relationships (both romantic and platonic) that have developed between them. They are quite the ragtag group, but they balance each other out nicely. I think Okame is my favourite, though. I'm a sucker for characters who use humor to make light of a deadly situation 🤣 The plot was incredible, too, fast-paced, and with just enough storylines to keep you guessing. The tension was intense the whole way through, and I did not see the ending coming yet again. ℝ𝔼𝕍𝕀𝔼𝕎: The Art of Prophecy Wesley Chu | The War Arts Saga ~1 | Fantasy | Adult  ––––––––––––––––⋆✵⋆–––––––––––––––– 𝐒𝐘𝐍𝐎𝐏𝐒𝐈𝐒: Jian is celebrated before being in battle; foretold to save the kingdom from the immortal god-king. But the prophecy is wrong. 𝐁𝐔𝐙𝐙𝐖𝐎𝐑𝐃𝐒: Martial arts | Twist on "the chosen one" |  Mentor trope | Assassins | Enemies to friends ––––––––––––––––⋆✵⋆–––––––––––––––– 𝐑𝐀𝐓𝐈𝐍𝐆: ★★★★★ 𝐓𝐇𝐎𝐔𝐆𝐇𝐓𝐒: This is amazing storytelling. I relished reading this book. Fantastic premise. Chu skillfully subverts the trope with “the chosen one” and turns it into something new. It’s fascinating to read about Jian’s decline from worshipped to outcast, and the twist enables thought-provoking discussions on blind faith, populism and brown-nosing. Throughout the story, we encounter other great tropes, like the mentor figure, underestimated cripple, assassins, redeeming rivalries and lots of martial arts training. It’s an obsessively gripping story, combining thrillingly epic fight scenes with well-timed comic relief. I love how the plot gets gradually bigger; starting out small, but seamlessly growing when unexpected events occur and new people with own agendas are introduced. The book is told through four POV:s and I ended up loving them all due to fantastic development and that the narratives follow different sides in the war; making the story more complex and awakening sympathy for both “the good” and “the bad” side. My favorite character, though, is Taishi. I worship her bad-assness and tough love. Overall: an addicting and fast paced introduction to the series, putting the reader in a “shut up and take my money”-situation in regard to pre-ordering the sequel. ––––––––––––––––⋆✵⋆–––––––––––––––– ⚠️𝐓𝐖: Death, abuse, bullying, slavery. #instabook #instabooks #bookstagram #bookish #yalit #boktips #boktipsungdom #ungdomsboktips #ungdomsbok #lästips #tbr #läserjustnu #currentlyreading #amreading #bibliophile #booknerd #bookcollection #bookrecs #booklove #newbookstagrammer #readersofinstagram #favoritebooks #lovereading #asianinspiredfantasy #boktipset #bookhaul #fantasybook #fantasybooks #wesleychu #theartofprophecy

Hello, one more Easter themed photo. I got back to work after the long weekend and it was hectic as usual. I think I have 6 meetings/interviews/whatever else booked for the next 3 days. That means the whole week will be busy. 🐓 Do you like fairytale retellings? I like to read them every now and then. Forest of A Thousand Lanterns is a retelling of the Evil Queen story set in an East Asian inspired fantasy world. I haven't read the book yet but I love the cover. ................................................................................. #bookstagram #yabooks #yalit #bookisheaster #easterweekend #easterchocolate #forestofathousandlanterns #fairytaleretelling #evilqueen #juliecdao #beautifulbookcovers #diversereads #diverseauthors #girlswhoread #smartgirlsread #asianinspiredfantasy #bookwormsofinstagram #readercommunity #readersofinstagram #asianamericanauthors

What was your last five star read? I’m cheating a little because I read it yesterday so the answer is easy, but this book! Rebel Skies is an Asian inspired fantasy, but honestly it had me at ‘origami beasts’. Yep, this world is under attack by gigantic paper animals and it is mesmerising. The Empire’s Bladesmen by @clay_vagrant_author This fast paced, Asian inspired historical, military fantasy provides the reader with a fun take on vampires! Shao Lian is loyal to the Ming Empire and has been sent to deal with the Blood Foot syndicate. Little does he know his rival Yeng Biao is playing with dangerous and ancient beings in order to rise to the top of the criminal syndicates. Biao quickly realises, playing with ancient powers is going to get them all killed and the two will need to work together if anyone is going to survive. My favourite element of this story had to be the vampire like demons themselves. This coupled with high stakes action sequences made for a fun and fast read. #theempiresbladesmen #clayvagrant #militaryfantasy #asianinspiredfantasy #fantasy #fantasybookreview #fantasybooks #fantasyseries #fantasyreaders #fantasyworld #bookrecommendation #bookreview #indiefantasy #selfpubfantasy #supportindieauthors

Hello, myth lovers! It´s time to read something that came out this year, don´t you think? 😁 📌 COMMENT ON THIS POST TO JOIN MARCH CHAT. 📌 We´ll keep the chat SPOILER FREE until the final discussion. 📌 It will be there to motivate us and have a space to talk about Asian inspired fantasy books (give each other recs) and share general feelings: nothing you would not write into a spoiler free review. S Y N O P S I S - In a fallen kingdom, one girl carries the key to discovering the secrets of her nation’s past—and unleashing the demons that sleep at its heart. An epic fantasy series inspired by the mythology and folklore of ancient China. Once, Lan had a different name. Now she goes by the one the Elantian colonizers gave her when they invaded her kingdom, killed her mother, and outlawed her people’s magic. She spends her nights as a songgirl in Haak’gong, a city transformed by the conquerors, and her days scavenging for what she can find of the past. Anything to understand the strange mark burned into her arm by her mother in her last act before she died. The mark is mysterious—an untranslatable Hin character—and no one but Lan can see it. Until the night a boy appears at her teahouse and saves her life. Zen is a practitioner—one of the fabled magicians of the Last Kingdom. Their magic was rumored to have been drawn from the demons they communed with. Magic believed to be long lost. Now it must be hidden from the Elantians at all costs. When Zen comes across Lan, he recognizes what she is: a practitioner with a powerful ability hidden in the mark on her arm. He’s never seen anything like it—but he knows that if there are answers, they lie deep in the pine forests and misty mountains of the Last Kingdom, with an order of practitioning masters planning to overthrow the Elantian regime. Both Lan and Zen have secrets buried deep within—secrets they must hide from others, and secrets that they themselves have yet to discover. Fate has connected them, but their destiny remains unwritten. Both hold the power to liberate their land. And both hold the power to destroy the world. Now the battle for the Last Kingdom begins.

Wow, wow. With each book, #TheGreenBoneSaga just gets better and better. While #JadeCity by #FondaLee spanned a year or so in the life of Green Bone warrior in Janloon City, using jade to power superhuman strength and mental skills, #JadeWar takes us deeper and at the same time further away as Hilo settles into being a leader and grows his family. Over the course of five years, we see the war over jade grow bigger and more dangerous while at the same time internal battles rage between the two clans. This is the type of book that when you come up for air, you're confused as to why you're not in a board meeting with Hilo and his Weather Man or fighting in the streets with Kehn and Tar. It's so immersive and well detailed with fantastic character growth and strength (plus bad ass women). #greenbonesaga #jadelegacy #hilo #bookstagram #booksofinstagram #library #fantasy #urbanfantasy #asianauthors #asianinspiredfantasy #wordsofclover #irishbookstagram #bookreviews #booktube #sff

I officially have another favorite author. Gahh Warrior of Blade and Dusk by @anastasisblythe was so good!! 😍😍😍 It was full of action, romance, high stakes, humor, secrets and mysteries unveiled, many different cool magics, phoenixes, dragons, and other fantasy creatures, and just everything you’d ever want in a fantasy book!! 🤩 Aranya and Kai have my heaaart!! Their banter, rising romance, and kisses made me internally squeal!! And oh how my heart clenched every time Kai became terrified and vulnerable when Aranya was in danger. 😭😭😍😍 I absolutely loved their relationship and how it progressed, and the ending was perfect for them! Can I just give a shoutout to Delan?? 😆 He’s kind, soft hearted, often (meaning always 😂) exasperated, protective, loyal, strong, smart, and just incredible! I loved his character so much and his dynamics with the two main characters were the best! 🤣 The battles scenes were gripping, intense, and so cool!! Everything was so well written and I loved how all the different types of magic affected the fights. And oh my gosh the illusions and how poor Aranya kept getting stuck in this nightmarish illusion broke my heart! She went through so much, was broken time after time, and yet still pushed on, and I loved her for it! I couldn’t stop turning the pages (read the entire book in one day!!) to see what’d happen next or what new thing would be discovered. The plot is great! It makes me sad though to see how far Zedong (seen a lot in the prequel) has fallen, to where he’s the villain of these books. I’m really intrigued by that plot line and CANNOT wait for the next book to come out, as that’s Meiling’s (aka Leina and Nianzu’s daughter!) story!! 🤩 Have you read this series? If not, WHY?? 🤣 - - - - - - #warriorofbladeanddusk #anastasisblythe #asianinspiredfantasy #newfavoriteauthor #fantasybooks #ilovefantasybooks #enemiestolovers #enemiestoloversbooks #readeratheart #fantasyreader #indieauthor #indiebook
