A recent finish for me was Spelled, the first in a series by @betsy_schow. I liked the concept of everything being flipped over on its head but some of the puns kind of made me roll my eyes a few times. I would’ve had a solid 5 star read if that had been toned down a bit. • Dot was absolutely infuriating in the beginning but she’s supposed to be so you can see some actual character development. Had she not grown in some way, she would have been unbearable as a character. Kato was my favorite and combined with Dot actually maturing, it kept me engaged. • Not a bad first book of a series. It wasn’t weighted down with exposition so it actually felt like a first of a series rather than a prologue. I really liked how all these fairytales were meshed together in this one world and they all interacted with each other. There were laughs, an unexpected ship, and it left me wanting more books in this series (which the epilogue was hinting at possibly more 🤞🏻). If you like fairytale stories with lots of puns you should definitely check this series out. Growing up , I wasnt fond of the story of the Wizard of Oz, and when I first knew this would be a retelling, I had doubts that I wont like it. But the funny thing , since I started this book, I didnt put it down till I finished reading it . Went for a hike today with my husband. It was only 2 miles (round trip) and somewhat steep. 🙈 But man, I’ve gotten so out of shape! QOTD: Do you ever make yourself go on a book-buying ban? My Answer: I rarely need to put myself on a book-buying ban, because I have two methods. The first one is if I see a book, I check to see if it’s at my local library. If the book isn’t there, I put them on my birthday and Christmas wishlist for my family to look at (the only exception for buying a book immediately is if they’re books I won’t find anywhere else because it’s rare and/or not publishing anymore).
