An unlikley source provides an answer to her problem and she forms a band of misfits for the heist. But what she and the crew uncover is more than they bargained for. There are so many great elements to this book. I was drawn to Faizal's writing style, particularly the dialogue between the characters. She created some witty, lovable characters, some better than the main character in my opinion. The plot was also so captivating. I was hooked on this story. From the vampires' secret world to the time period it is set in to the back stories of the characters, my only wish was that we had more scenes in the tea room. I can't wait for the next book to release! Brief review of the winner of the @pulitzerprizes winner in the fiction category, Night Watch. My introduction to Jayne Anne Phillips, Night Watch, didn’t disappoint me like I thought it might. I was mad because I thought better books should have taken home the prize. While I’d still hold to that claim, I’m not upset about this win anymore. This is a good book. A masterclass in lyricism and beautiful language, convincing dialogue, and fully developed characters, I cannot deny Jayne Anne Phillips deserved this win. The story had a few moments of pure, gut wrenching, chest throttling terror that left me with an actual real life stomachache. You communicate something that powerfully on the page, no matter the topic at hand, (TW: rape), you get kudos from me as a reader. Maybe a spoiler ahead? But I think not so much. If worried about it, skip the rest of this paragraph. There is a scene of a mother holding her blindfolded toddler upside down by the ankles in the freshly dug grave of a murdered man in order to fetch her rifle. This scene as narrative was haunting, but as metaphor in America, even moreso. I found that image powerful and unmatched. While the story did have just a couple of well-covered coincidences at its core and did not maintain my full interest all the way through to the very end, I give this novel a big thumbs up and look forward to reading Phillips’ backlist.

The Maidens By Alex Michaelides 3.5 ⭐️ She’s in her Audio Book era! Catch me out finishing my second audio book this week 💁♀️ and can we TALK about borrow box and how obsessed with it I am! Free books AND supporting my local library? Amazing On to the book. I feel like the hype on this book has gone full circle. When it first came out i saw loads of hype and then eventually i saw loads of people saying it was rubbish and over rated but i just finished it and thought it was great. It was so addictive I just sat in my garden with my headphones on listening and not doing anything else. I didn’t even need a Mario game to play on my switch, that’s how good it is and normally I need at least two forms of media to prevent my brain from having a single thought: This book was twisty (some obvious but honestly i think i fell for the red herring cause at one point i was SCREAMING it’s XXX when Marianna wasn’t suspecting them and then it wasn’t lol). I didn’t love the ending but that’s alright, I still think this book is above average especially for its genre (and dare I say it being written by a man oops I said it, but Mariana didn’t boob boobily ONCE )

🔎THOUGHTS on The Arrangement and Gone Girl🔍 Wow. Both of these books were hard to put down. Twisty domestic thrillers involving married couples in the suburbs. The Arrangement is book 1 in a series by the same name. I almost gave it 5 stars until the very, very end. This book kept twisting until the end and it got to the point where I was laughing out loud while reading because it was just that messy. But that very last twist took the wind out of my sails a bit. I had a plot line that was crossed and it made me not want to keep reading the series, but I still rated it highly because this book was a good time. Gone Girl was also quite the reading experience, because I honestly don’t know how I made it this far (in society) without knowing what the book was about lol. When I tell you I hated every character in this book, please believe me lol. I rated it highly though. I read Gone Girl first and I thought I’d never seen a couple who deserved each other more than Amy and Nick, until I read about Peter and Ainsley lol.

317 days sober today. Last Mother’s Day was a wake-up call. I chose wine over my kids. We were at the Biltmore Estate. A free wine tasting was included in the price of our tickets. Since my husband doesn’t drink, I went to the winery. By myself. The winery host scanned the people chatting in line around me, trying to determine if I was alone. I chuckled and awkwardly explained that my kids were at the farm next-door with Dad. Mommy was taking a little alone time. He tried to smile back, but his lips pressed into a thin line as he turned to lead me to another couple at a tasting counter. Apparently, none of the other moms had come to the winery to drink alone on Mother’s Day. As I explained to the couple next to me that I was taking a “mommy juice” break, they nodded in understanding and joked that they would adopt me. While downing wine samples, we told each other our life stories, talked about their wedding, a recent loss, great local vegan food. Cheryl and I exchanged numbers over emotional hugs goodbye, while promising to meet up during our overlapping Disney World trips. When I walked outside, my 4 kids rushed me. They spoke over each other in excitement. They got to pet chickens and baby goats! It was “the most fun thing ever”! They were ecstatic. I was buzzed. And I felt like I had been punched in the gut. How could I have missed this? For wine with strangers? Never again. It would take me another month and a half to quit my 2 glass habit, but this was a tipping point. I hadn’t been drunk or hungover in a decade. But I was drinking to get out of myself. I was drinking to dull the anxiety, turn down the volume, numb my emotions, sleep. Little did I know, the wine was making it all worse. I didn’t want to run anymore. It may not always feel good to feel all the feelings. It may feel really bad some days. But the thing about numbing out the bad, is the good gets mixed in. I want to be there, for all of it. Sunday we went to the zoo. My first alcohol-free Mother’s Day. I got to be there, watch my kids faces light up. And Cheryl and I? We never ended up meeting at Disney World. (Tagged some friends who’ve been there on this journey 🫶.)

There are parts of politics leading up to the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombings, as well as the roles of each country's premiers, particularly Stalin.The meetings between Stalin, Truman, and Churchill following the fall of Berlin were obviously classified. ♦️𝐑𝐞𝐯𝐢𝐞𝐰 - This book is difficult to categorize; it contains aspects of historical fiction,science, espionage, and politics, as well as vast amounts of nonfiction. It is really comprehensive, but I never felt like I was reading a research paper at any moment.He even presented the most critical physics principles and chemistry processes in such an easy way that I sometimes wished students had a teacher like him in their life at least once in their lives to fall in love with the topics. Storytelling is so effortless and he wrote everything (every scientific phrase) in accurate Bengali translation.He had even quoted words from English and then written the identical thing in Bengali, capturing the core of everything so precisely.How he made reality seem and unfold like a true crime tale. I'm confident that no one could identify the culprit until the confession. Початок доволі повільний, а от десь з середини історія приймає дуже несподіваний оберт і відірватись неможливо. Jednak tym razem trafiają do miasteczka, w którym wraz z ich przyjazdem zaczynają się dziać różne dziwne rzeczy. Ta książka to połączenie baśni, legend i mitów słowiańskich z dodatkiem fantastyki! Na kartkach tej historii poznamy demony, skrzaty i wiele innych magicznych stworzeń. Bohaterowie już od samego początku przypadli mi do gustu, a Makary stał się zdecydowanie tym ulubionym. Chłopiec, który cierpi przez ciągłe przeprowadzki, trafia w miejsce, w którym odbędzie się jego życiowa przygoda. Spotka na swojej drodze ludzi, z którymi zaciśnie swoje więzi na dłużej, pozna, czym w życiu jest prawdziwa przyjaźń, a przede wszystkim będzie musiał zrobić wszystko, aby uratować pewną dziewczynkę. WALKA DOBRA ZE ZŁEM. „Klątwa Czarnoboga” jest pierwszym tomem fascynującej serii, którą pokochałam od pierwszej strony. Ale jest również debiutem. Tak, DEBIUTEM! W moje ręce ostatnio trafiają same takie perełki, jednak ta przeszła moje najśmielsze oczekiwania. Nie wiem, jak Wy, ale ja na swoim koncie mam bardzo mało przeczytanych książek tego gatunku, które są spod pióra naszych rodaków. Częściej sięgałam po książki zagranicznych autorów. **My Review** I found this to be an exceptionally well-crafted retelling of the Medusa myth. sapph-lit book swap ☆ i got to go to the @sapphlit & the yearning book swap this past weekend with my best friends and it was so amazing. i love sapph-lit so much and nina always organizes such lovely events, it made our weekend so fun. there was a book swap, raffle, and a showing of but i’m a cheerleader! i won a framed poster of the movie which was so exciting, was able to part with 25-ish books of my own for the swap, and brought home a few new ones i can’t wait to get started on. all while seeing fellow sapph-litties and chatting and having an amazing time! i’m so glad i could bring my besties and i can’t wait for more events! also @deirdre.alston took the first pic and the one of me and my besties and i love them so much!!

As time passes and the situation becomes the status quo, people on each side begin falling in love, exploring their values, and thinking about if they really want to go back to what’s waiting for them at home. *** If you love Bel Canto, perhaps stop reading here, and scroll happily on your way. I too enjoyed it, but I have some critiques!*** I am not unhappy I read this book; it’s beautiful and tragic. However, it’s also very much written by a white woman. To take inspiration from a tragic, real life event and to spin it into a syrupy Stockholm syndrome-y romance is… not the vibe. Perhaps I am simply not the audience for this one, as I was very much unexcited about the rendezvous romances or the repeated opera scenes. I 𝘥𝘪𝘥 love the exploration of who a ‘bad guy’ is, and was sympathetic to several of the terrorist characters, especially the kiddos who joined up because, well, what else were they meant to do? Nie jest to jednak koniec następstw, które spotkały go po tych strasznych przeżyciach, ponieważ chłopak stał się tak zwanym widzącym. Umiejętność ta pozwala mu nie tylko widzieć duchy, ale może również się z nimi kontaktować. A tak się składa, że Charlie mieszka w Yorku, czyli jednym z najbardziej nawiedzonych miast. Pewnego dnia Charlie poznaje nowego widzącego w mieście, Sama, który prosi go o pomoc w rozwiązaniu tajemnicy znikających duchów. "Sixteen Souls" to pierwszy tom młodzieżowej serii o tym samym tytule autorstwa popularnej booktokerki. Już po skończeniu książki mogę stwierdzić, że moje odczucia co do tego tytułu są mieszane. Z jednej strony dostałam to czego oczekiwałam, czyli lekką powieść z romansem oraz dreszczykiem grozy. Natomiast z drugiej nie do końca mogłam zaangażować w opisaną historię oraz niestety nie zżyłam się z bohaterami. Sam pomysł na fabułę, w której mamy do czynienia z duchami żyjącymi w nawiedzonym mieście oraz bohaterami, którzy mogą się z nimi kontaktować jest dosyć ciekawy. Na plus oceniam również nadnaturalne elementy, które zostały przedstawione w całkiem mroczny sposób oraz romans między naszymi bohaterami, który określiłabym raczej jako delikatny. Niemiej to wszystko nie wystarczyło, abym zakochała się w tym tytule.
