This book was amazing. The plot, the twists and the whole vibe of the book was so to the point. You can’t put it down and neither can you stop, that’s the amazing thing about it. It starts off with two women meeting in a grief support group. Both of them have lost their loved ones and want to punish the individuals behind it and thus they make a plan. To swap the murders. What looked like a basic plot piece with a simple theme turned into something twisty like after 25% of the book and from there you just want to keep guessing what would happen and I was so surprised where all my guesses went wrong. The only thing I felt lagging in this book is the Detective POV. I wanted a strong character for that but nevertheless I was so consumed with everything happening around that I could skip that part. This series has been hit or miss for me, but this new adventure did not disappoint. While all of the previous books have had some level of violence, this was the first book that was more gloomy and heartbreaking. This book is told from the POV of Mary, former Crossroads ghost and Price family babysitter. As the war with the Covenant of St George ramps up the Price family experiences devastating loses that will have long lasting consequences. This was a hard read for me both because it made me sad, but it also because it made me angry. However, despite that I still enjoyed this action packed latest in the Incryptid series. I could not put this down. It was phenomenal. I got Agatha Christie vibes from all the whodunnits and the twist! Ohmygoodness. I stopped reading to tell my husband I couldn't figure out who did it. Book: Off the deep end Author: Emily Silver Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 Sweetness: 💗💗💗💗/5 Spice: 🌶🌶/5 I absolutely LOVED this book! It was funny, it had some great characters and the plot was very absorbing. This here was my first sports romance with diving and it was definitely better than I originally thought it would be. The book made diving sound rather fun, but I would never do it though. **Spoiler Warning** Omg, Wes and Finn were just so cute together! They really balanced each other out and just fit together perfectly despite their differences. It was just a sweet love story and it totally did not make me jealous of two fictional people. I also really enjoyed how the author put some focus on the mental health problems that athletes can have and most of the time suppress them so they can continue to compete. I don't know if it's just me, but I thought the scene where Wes collapsed on the 10-meter platform was very powerful. It showed in detail what will eventually happen when you suppress one's mental problems for too long and don't get the help that you need. I will say though, I am a bit offended that we didn't get to see their wedding. There were a bunch of sweet moments and some spicy bits scattered in the second half. I really enjoyed Fisher’s character. I enjoy a good slow burn, but I felt like the first half was a bit disjointed. I absolutely loved the second half! Sage and Fisher seemed to have a clear target and objectives and it kept the story on track. I loved all of the little moments of intimacy sprinkled in. One of my favorite scenes was when they go to the little shop and have fun with the banana robe and shirt! Oh and the canoeing part! Also the dialogue is on point! I loved the banter and the puns! Indy was a good and complex supporting character. I loved seeing her relationship with Fisher mature and her interactions with the animals were great! I did get a bit choked up with the third act conflict, though I think it was more in anger than sadness. I guess I just didn’t connect with Sage… It was definitely an entertaining story and I really wanted to love it but I just ended up just liking it. I kind of wanted to have more of the menu tasting and more studying as well. Thanks to @bibliolifestyle and @williammorrowbooks for a beautiful copy of The Phoenix Crown. I featured it for a book tour when it was published, and finally got around to reading it. Here’s my review: While I think this book is well-written and researched, it wasn’t my favorite. The focus on relationships distracted me from the more interesting parts—some of the romance felt like a soap opera to me. In the author’s note it says, “Botanist Alice Eastwood had such a sensational life, she threatened to take over the entire book.” I wish that threat had made good, because I thought she was way more interesting than the actual female leads. Whenever the focus was on history, culture, plants, sewing, Chinatown, the earthquake, I wanted more. But so much of the writing was about the romance of these women instead. I love romance, but for me it didn’t work in this book, and it bogged down the history. I loved the author’s note, and I at least appreciated learning what I did from this book. I can’t win with historical fiction lately!! Maybe it’s not my genre? 📚Books 23-26 in 2024📚 @ellenmariewiseman writes in such a heartbreakingly beautiful way in both #TheLostGirlsofWillowbrook and #WhatSheLeftBehind. The novels are based on real institutions existing in the early 20th century and chronicle the horrific abuses suffered by its inmates/patients. Most of the people institutionalized were women and it is astonishingly cruel the reasons many were placed there. From falling in love with the “wrong” boy to various “mental health” reasons, women were trapped in these prisons disguised as places to help people recover and get better. Truly tragic accounts of the conditions and abuses that took place. #BridesmaidForHire by @meghanquinnbooks was an absolutely hysterical and spicy palette cleanser after all the dark and twisty I tend to lean towards. Even though there were some major discrepancies between the show and the book 😅 The first part of this book was heartbreaking 💔 Although I was prepared for John’s death from the blurb, it killed me 😭😭 Francesca literally begging Michael to wake John up was just heartbreaking 🥺🥺 The unrequited love element in the first part was a little off putting because John is just the sweetest but I started to warm up to it more as I got into the book more 😅 The second part of the book was a lot more amusing. I loved Francesca’s stubbornness and how bossy Michael was. It made for very tense and amusing scenes 😂😂 I also loved how Francesca really makes him work for it 😅 His frustration with her made me cackle 🤣🤣 I was sad that the older Bridgerton siblings weren’t really featured in this book but I enjoyed the verbal sparring between Hyacinth, Eloise and Francesca 🤣 Overall it was a great and maybe my second fav read in the Bridgerton series. Sister of My Heart ended with Sudha relocating to America with her daughter, Dayita, to live with Anju and her husband, Sunil. The Vine of Desire is the first novel by Chitra Banerjee that I disliked. The story was unnecessarily dragged and the characters - their actions and choices - annoyed me to the core. The book primarily focuses on how Sudha adjusts in America; how her relationship with Anju deteriorates when she finds out Anju’s husband loves her; how she feels tempted to surrender to her desires. The book also delves into Anju’s academic life and how she struggles to bounce back after her miscarriage. The book even explores the beautiful relationship that develops between Sunil and Dayita. The Vine of Desire portrays the complex nature of a plethora of relationships. Chapter Twelve (2004) 📖 Trickster’s Queen by Tamora Pierce This duology (Trickster’s Choice and Trickster’s Queen) was my first foray into Tamora Pierce’s world of Tortall. Which is kinda funny considering it’s actually the last installment in that universe, so I worked my way backwards. But that’s part of the beauty of Pierce’s universe. #BookReview: HUNTING JUSTICE by Sami Abrams & Lynette Eason “A dark secret puts them in the crosshairs of a relentless killer…” I like Noelle from the first book in the series. Though her past continued to haunt her, I was stunned by the events that unfolded. Her bravery and strength in enduring and overcoming those experiences are truly admirable. The friendship between Jonah and Noelle was a good one. Their desire to protect each other was balanced with a respect for privacy, allowing their secrets to unfold naturally. The pacing, characters, and suspense were all well-executed, with the exception of the autopsy details, which I found a bit disturbing. However, I understand their relevance to Jonah's role as an examiner and to solve the crimes. The Elite Guardians were fantastic as usual, and it was nice to have Decia and Matthew help in the investigation.While I understood the seriousness of their work in investigating and helping people, I also appreciated the genuine friendship they shared.They were there for each other, no matter what. The author masterfully crafted a story that kept me guessing until the near-unveiling of the culprit. Kudos for the thrilling ride and heart-pounding scenes! I can’t wait for the next book in the series.
