Iโm a little behind in documenting this, but per my previous post โ it happens! ๐๐คท๐ผโโ๏ธ โ โ Back in February, several members of my training team (@tulumstrengthclub) and I had the incredible opportunity to learn from The Glute Guy himself, @bretcontreras1. His gym is inspiring: he has one of a kind equipment - most are custom made based on his intricate understanding of anatomy & physiology. โ With my science and training background, diving into the latest research on resistance training was of particular interest โ covering key takeaways on resistance profiles, lengthened vs. shortened movements, pros/cons of partials vs. full ROM, frequency/duration of training sessions, male vs. female differences in training results, and so much more. Bret is a true wealth of knowledge and helped us apply his many years of anecdotal experience to our own unique goals. โ The most memorable advice Bret gave us was that, as Strength Coaches (or athletes), we should always aim to strengthen our clients and build them up (as well as ourselves). In a world that consistently focuses on where we lack or need to improve, instead offer encouragement, a safe space, and a positive support system to build, grow, and subsequently strengthen all aspects of a clientโs mental, emotional, and physical performance. โ I left having learned more than I even expected, with practical applications made immediately to my programming and (more importantly) my mindset. #KnowledgeBomb Nr. 146: Is Ashwagandha effective for reducing Stress and Anxiety? One study assessed the effect of supplementing with ashwagandha on anxiety and perceived stress in people with mild to moderate stress and anxiety. 50 participants from India without apparent health conditions were involved in this study. The participants were assigned to take a daily dose of either placebo* or 500mg of ashwagandha + 5mg of piperine. *(A placebo is any treatment that has no active properties, such as a sugar pill). Stress and anxiety levels were assessed at the beginning of the study, day 30, and day 60 (the end of the study). In the beginning and at the end of the study, quality of life was also assessed. The results of this study showed that, compared to the beginning of the study and the placebo group, stress and anxiety levels decreased and quality of life improved in the ashwagandha group. The reductions in both stress and anxiety with ashwagandha appear to have been clinically important, meaning the effects should be large enough to produce a noticeable improvement in symptoms. One thing to keep in mind is that the participants had mild to moderate stress and anxiety, but were not specifically diagnosed with a mental health condition.
